I say that to say this, the competition Duncan faced for they 02,03 MVPs when KG, O’Neal ( in his prime when he was winning 3 finals mvps in a row) , Kobe, AI, Chris Webber etc is much more than what KAJ was up against, and that has to count for something. I can accept the argument that Magic was the best passer, but his argument that Magic’s average is the highest is somewhat misleading. Stockton had a 5-year stretch where his average assists over the entire 5 years was higher than Magic’s best ever season average. The reason Stockton’s career average is lower is because he played so much longer. But in both of their peaks, Stockton had higher assist numbers than Magic.

    • @NicolasAlcalde

Stockton always gets underrated. He was also a great shooter one of the best defenders in the league. If he played in this era, with these usage rates he'd be a 24/18 guy while being possibly the best defender at his position and just being a bit low on free throw percentage or he'd hit the 50/40/90 club every single year.

Heres a true fact!! Steph was injured a large portion of his earlier career AND on top of that the Warriors were ran by mediocre jokesters that didn't position Steph to play at a high level. They did however exalt Monta Ellis and David Lee ahead of Steph all whilst Steph was also dealing with ankle injuries and surgeries. All I'm saying is that they NEVER talk about the climb Steph had to make and if you really wanna know the truth, If Steph had Dray and Klay and Iggy from the gate, you're talking about a guy who is easily breaking the 30k point mark and top 10 in steals and assists and more first team All NBA selections. In short, what he is now, not bad for a guy who had to overcome bad management, injuries and playing on what was virtually a Gleague team his first 6 seasons.

You can say the same thing with MJ pre-triangle and post-triangle offense - the stats are like night and day. Durability should count but not against Steph. Its actually incredible that he not only fought through his early injuries but came out the other end a 10x player and is stronger today than he ever has been. How incredible is that? His ankle injuries early on guaranteed to end most if not all other players careers.....Steph came out the other end one of the greatest offensive weapons in existence.
Not only that, he is the smallest dude on any of these top10/top20 lists by a HUGE margin. Those other guys have their pure genetic athleticism to lean on, Steph has none of that natural advantage.
Put him in the top 10 or not, you can not understate the incredible accomplishments he has made as a 6'2 small guard. He took a game dominated by giants and completely changed the battlefield. He forced them out wider to become faster, more nimble and better shooters and then proceeded to be the greatest to ever do it at that range. After he spread them out then he dominated the inside by becoming one of the great small guard finishers at the rim we've ever seen....all without dunking.
I think the most insulting things I hear are when these guys try and talk about Giannis and Luka and KD are foregone conclusion Top 10 players even though Curry has accomplish WAY more than they have so far. It's insane.

I've watched a bunch of Magic games. I don't see why he's considered better than Steph.
He got one more chip, but never without his "KD" ( Kareem). Magic never won without Kareem, Steph won 2 workout KD (so far).
I get that his defense is a lot worse than Magic, I get that his passing is not as good either.
But Steph's shooting literally eliminated a position. I don't think it's absurd to make the argument that Steph's shooting is more influential than Magic's passing.

Broussard made a comment along the lines of “Hakeem only had two, we might say he’s better but if Steph gets five we’d probably move him ahead.” Like what? Lmao if you think Hakeem is better than he is better in your opinion. If you see them both play and think Hakeem is better then go with that. These media analysts have ruined these discussions for everybody. Way too much weight is held on championships in a team sport when ranking players in my opinion. Football it literally makes no sense whatsoever because there are sooooo many factors a QB doesn’t have any control of that go into winning football games. And in basketball it only makes a little bit more sense than zero.

    • @gumballwaterson1957
      @gumballwaterson1957 2 года назад

The point of sports is to win. Anyone who's watched the NBA long enough knows the nature of basketball allows a single player to have more impact than any other major American sport. Every single great player measures themselves primarily through rings and if you're not standing at the top at the end of a season, you get lost to history. Nobody ruined anything for anyone because I can guarantee you that winning rings has been a part of discussion since Bill Russell (nearly all of the league's history). Def not the only thing, but it is the biggest thing.

Steph rightly asked "what they gonna say now" and Nick's ready with "regular season total points". Lol.
It's the total points now? Not points per game? Wonder how playing more games matter than scoring more. That too in regular season. Steph scored even more per game in playoffs then regular season. I thought playoffs mattered?
And all that being said, Steph is still playing at a very high level and its very possible he could score another 8000 to 10000 points and endup Top 15 or even Top 10 in points.

I HATE it when I agree with Nick. Unless Steph adds another regular season MVP or Finals MVP he's not moving much further up the list. While Giannis has (barring injury) the potential to move past a whole bunch of dudes because he's only 27 and he's already out together a Hall of Fame career.
One other note though, If Kobe gets put ahead of Shaq then the list is whack. Can't be teammates for almost a decade and one guy was clearly the Alpha on the team and then put the other guy ahead of them All-Time.
