If you have Steph and Magic on the same team. Who are you the most worried about? (Be honest) Of course Magic will get open looks because the defense will be running after Steph because he's a bigger threat than Magic. Despite his height dude gets rebounds too, I dont know how he rebounded well well they're undersized. If Magic was 6'3, he would be just a regular dude compared to if Steph was much taller.🤦🏾‍♂️ He's higher than Magic on my list. At some point, these old people except MJ will have to be left in the past. We recognize them but we just let them be in their own area. Physically, skillwise they dont match players in today's area.

As a Steph Stan I can sincerely say that we don't care if Steph is on Stephen A Smiths Mount Rushmore. Can't we just celebrate Steph? Wasn't the biggest knock to Steph was him not having a finals MVP? So now we gotta find something else to say about Steph now he's got the finals MVP 🤷🏽‍♂️🤔

Unfortunately Steph will never get the credit he deserves. His greatness gets taken for granted. We're so used to seeing him do it for so long. The man can shoot from anywhere. Running at or away from the rim, sideways, doubled, getting fouled. That's not even considering the attention he demands from opposing defenses and how he makes his team better by his unselfishness.
Fact is he's too small. He doesn't have the frame to power through or over people unlike others mentioned and in the eyes of many, regardless of how many awards or championships he gets, it will never be enough.

I'm about to go real deep on Wilt's record against Russell, and why it's not exactly a fair comparison.
Of Wilt's playoff losses to Russell, 4 of the series went to a game 7. Wilt's teams lost those game 7s by a combined total of 9 points. So these weren't blowouts - these games were decided by one shot.
In the first of these 4 series, in 1962, Wilt was playing alongside one other all-star. Russell was playing with another 3.
In the second series, in 1965, the count was even with 2 other all-stars apiece, but Wilt had just been traded to that team, they hadn't had time to develop chemistry yet. This was the core of the squad that would beat the Celtics (and win the championship) in '67.
In the third of these, Bill had 2 other all-stars to Wilt's 1.
In the 4th, Wilt was finally playing with the more talented team - Jerry West and Elgin Baylor to go up against Russell and Havilcek as the lone remaining Boston All-stars. The only problem? Wilt was playing for a coach named Butch van Breda Kolff, who famously hated him and forced him to stay on the bench during the final minutes of a very winnable game 7. van Breda Kolff was fired during that offseason.
Now, obviously there were scenarios where Wilt underperformed in the finals. I'm just saying that Bill generally had a lot more help (let's not forget that he also had one of history's greatest coaches) and that it was close despite that extra help.

    • @peskypesky

Yea that's kinda a similar argument to a lot of debates within the top ten players all time. Most people say Wilt was the better individual player, but Russell had the more success, so they end up being about even when it comes to ranking this arbitrary "greatness" that includes skill and accolades. Similar deal with KD vs Curry, where most years KD was the better individual player, but curry has the more success. Or magic vs bird where Magic had more help therefore more championships

@@batssama Magic has *1* more championship than Steph after playing with Kareem Abdull Jabbar who is arguably the 3rd greatest to play the game, in a time period where the West was weak and their competition was the Bird's Celtics in the East. Magic has 3 finals MVP's and Steph has 1, but we can clearly agree Steph was 100% robbed of his first one in 2015. Additionally, Steph didn't win FMVP in 2017 and 2018 but we can still clearly see that the team is built around him and that he was the reason that team was great - look at KD in the Celtics series this year without Curry drawing the defense; they get gentlemen swept. Even if KD puts up a nicer looking statline Curry is the real MVP of the series and driving force behind that teams success.
Also, you say Magic revolutionised the PG position but so did Curry. Every team wants to shoot the 3 now, he made big men irrelevant even though they were the most important players for almost all of basketball history prior to Curry. If you want to be a star centre int he current league, you have to be extremely multifaceted like Jokic, Embiid, Giannis.
Finally, the biggest reason I put Curry above Magic is intangibles and factors you can't put on paper. Magic is flashy but Curry's the most selfless superstar in history. Just because he doesn't get the assist doesn't mean he didn't create for his team. He averages 6.5 assists for his career but what about all those points that are created just because he's on the floor? He creates so much space and even if the official assist doesn't belong to him he creates much more for his teamates through the spacing he creates and his willingness to move the ball until it reaches a teamate that is open because of him. Russel Westbrook is the opposite; a guy that will only pass with the intention of getting the assist, not a true creator like Curry.

I think people are too nostalgic about the past, like we are when we think of our childhood. You don't wanna admit it but Curry is objectively better than Magic and has also changed the game. He creates just as much for his team if not moreso through his presence on the floor and unselfish basketball, and that's why people overlook him. It's the same for Tim Duncan. Duncan was a 5 time champion, 3x FMVP, 2x MVP, and the cornerstone of his franchise, yet he barely cracks the top 10 list for most people because he isn't flashy. Meanwhile, Kobe who played 2nd fiddle to Shaq for 3 of the chips he won is ranked higher than Duncan on almost every list, some people even put him on NBA mount rushmore. And this is just because he's flashy and they get nostalgic thinking about him. Selfless players don't get the recognition they're due for because they're less flashy, but Magic is more appealing because "showtime"

Lemme be honest with you, my issue with Steph is this,
Lebron, Kobe, Wilt, Russell, MJ, Kareem
I have seen some part of the media, Journalist, teammates, former players, and current players make a case at one point that one of those is the best basketball player ever. Like, someone at some point has said Kobe, MJ, LeBron, Kareem, Wilt, Russell is the best ever, whether we agree or not.
On all these debates in the media or players about Steph, no one has ever even stated or tried to make the argument is the best basketball player ever. That tells us something.
Steph biggest ticket to top 5 ever is he changed the game, and that for me cannot put him top 5, because in the moment, those things are overvalued. 50 years from now, it would not matter as much as, how much rings, FMVP, MVP do u have. How many total points, assists, rebounds do u have and how many records is your name one. In that regards, Steph has only three points records going for him, and it will be hard, 20 years from now for people to say he is top 5 ever just because of that.

I'm not ranking Wilt and Bill in my top 10 because they're simply to big of an outlier. Era was far too different with 8 teams.

Also Wilt was a post season loser. He was carried to his rings. Wasn't even the best or 2nd best scorer in his teams in the playoffs believe it or not.

I mean I don't watch Steph because he's a top 5 All-time I watch because he's fun. Steph will have to win another ring if he wants to be in that top 5

lol these narratives are crazy somehow 1 ring got curry from top 20 to top 10 and according to u if he wins another 1 it will get him to top 5. what exactly did we learn from curry in this championship that we didn't already know from the 2015,2017,2018 ones? if anything he played worse and the team all together played worse. so that just means one thing the competition wasnt up to par.

The people on Mount Rushmore changed and help create the country we live today… Steph changed the game of basketball with the way he shoots from three point land. He’s the literal example of someone who changed the game of basketball.

jay williams is clearly biased. Steph moves on ball and off ball like no one we’ve ever seen. yes he’s the greatest shooter of all time but he’s also the best mover we’ve ever seen too.. he’s literally running circles around everyone out there and he can also be an assist god. so Jay will, how does it make sense to have 4 big guys represented on mt rushmore but no little guys?

I would say this should be the top 5 list based purely off position during a time when basketball was at the highest levels. No disrespect to Bill and Wilt, but they played in an era of 8-10 teams.
