This Trucking Game may not be a view from inside the cab, but it's the most realistic physics that a truck makes where you get to understand how to truck operates in reverse. American Truck Simulator (ATS)and European Trucking Simulator 2 (ETS2) are the best trucking games that you get, and I recommend that you play them, but my game is created for people to just get used to reversing a trailer.
I have heard from so many users that truck schools across the country use my game and use my videos to show their students how to back up.

From my experience from currently being in trucking school, this is the best way I found to do the 90 back:
Have your trailer and tractor straight and around 7-14 feet away from the boundary hole. Cut hard right and start the process of a jack-knife. While you're doing this and looking outside the driver side window watch your rear trailer tire CLOSELY. It should either be rolling backwards or standing still, if it starts rolling forwards you cut it right too long. Once your rear trailer tire starts to slow down from rolling backwards and eventually stands still you should be at around a full 90. At this point I straighten my wheel up (2 turns back and a little left) and start chasing the trailer as you said. NOW THIS IS CRUCIAL. By this point your trailer should be right at the hole, but you may be angled slightly right still so if you kept going you would cross the passenger side boundary line. At this point you would start cutting your wheel right to continue a very slight jack-knife, but ONLY enough to straighten your trailer up in the lane. Once your trailer is straight enough in the lane cut it back left and keep going (you kind of have to play with this step, but the crucial point is being gentle turning right, you don't want too much). Even if you end up crooked in the lane in a V shape, at this point you can use one pull-up and straighten back up, and this point you can just do a straight-line back.
This has put me in the hole every single time, and I'd say this is the best way to learn it because every truck and trailer is different, this will work with all of them due to the signs you watch for.

@My Trucking Skills Great video, but this needs to be updated. Because here in Bethlehem, PA they’re teaching the 90 with the exception that they use cones to mark the ends of the two lanes, as well as one cone in the back of the lane that you’re going into so that you gauge how far back your bumper needs to go to be inside a 3 foot box and then stop so you avoid hitting the cone. Your method works great for this setup because you’re allowed to drive “on the line” so to speak, but not if there are cones present. Please take this into consideration for a follow up video to this, but with the addition of cones. Thank you!

Just a tip for those who are interested in getting better at this, don't look at your phone the way you try to type in something, will see everything but probably you are looking at blind side or right side of your trailer, flip your phone 180 degrees and now you will be looking as if you are in the driver seat and looking at your axles path so you can understand where did you jack knife to much or need more, it might help or not, depending on your will to learn.

But Im still having difficulty with the angles, maintaining the truck/trailer angle. I just can't hold the angle for very long. No matter how slow I go. I'm not giving up, but I just don't think I'm getting anywhere. At least not in any leaps and bounds you know ?

Very few vids show how one gets out of trouble. 2/3 pull ups, explain how its best to solve a problem.
Not that I don’t appreciate your vids,

I’m having difficulty understanding the difference between the previous Alley, dock videos, and this 90° back when the constraints are all the same…

  • @redbluesome2829
    @redbluesome2829 3 года назад +6

*Honestly, these methods are kind of wacky, and more akin to jackknifing the trailer into a spot, which is bad form. If you’re actually backing, the trailer should not exceed 30-40° in relation to the tractor. Otherwise, you’ve thrown most of your backing leverage out the window, and may even be stressing your air lines. You don’t want that.*
*Try the following maneuver, it’s almost an S curve and should allow you to drop your trailer in the hole every time with ease.*
*[1] Using the diagram in the video, if you want to back into spot #6 for example, approach at close to idle speed with a minimal gap between yourself and the parking spaces.*
*[2] Once your drive axles are parallel to spot #5, continue rolling forward, but turn your wheel hard right, full lock... (This will set the nose of your trailer on a rapid right angle course)*
*[3] Hold this hard right maneuver for a few seconds, or until your tractor is approximately 50° right of the parking spots to your left.*
*[4] Quickly turn your wheel hard left, full lock. (All of this requires quick action from you, so stay on it)*
*[5] Finally, monitor your trailer angle, and apply your service brakes once the trailer is about 30-40° to your tractor.*
*If your speed and timing is correct, your tractor and trailer should now be at the ideal angle for backing right into spot #6. (With sufficient clearance from anything to the right of your tractor)*
*And no, it’s not unsafe to back in with no pull-ups, IF your angle is correct, and you know you have clearance. But as always, do Get Out And Look if unsure.*
*I hope this lengthy piece of advice makes sense to someone, because I know many struggle with it. Just know that 90° backing is not really complicated, once you master the fundamentals of steering a trailer. It’s among my favorite things in trucking and wish I had more opportunity to do it, but I’m open-deck. Have fun and be safe!* 🍺

90 degree back is something everyone should know how to do. But ive seen so many people use it when theres no reason... ive seen trailer tires destroyed from drivers doing it unnecessarily on gravel. Its intended to be used when the tractor will be 90ish degrees when at the dock to allow traffic thru or if theres no room on the side to set up for a 45 not to back into a spot at a truck stop or a shipper with plenty of room
