In school and first carrier was taught when driver window is in middle of the first space past the one you want then turn to 12 o’clock position. That doesn’t always work well. Since becoming a jockey I just learned that turning right after two spaces works better like you showed it here. Believe it or not for the Swift haters it was a swift backing mentor who taught me to keep wheels straight as you begin backing then apply wheel to the right if need be then left to get straight.
Your first setup is so important! I went with a trainer he never told me distances .. I had to learn for myself.. you need to know how much space and when to turn in these spaces when you do learn its so easy and you then can gain confidence...
My first week going solo was nerve-wracking especially at the truck stops. Then watching your videos helped me gain a lot of knowledge and using your method makes backing easy. I was just getting comfortable with backing into spots when another driver who was struggling came knocking and asked if I could help him back in. I was able to with ease using your setup and he was so grateful. 🙏😉
@@MyTruckingSkills question, how come when attempting a blind spot backing we start turning to the left at 1.5 spots pass instead of at the end of 2 spots like sight side?
Works most the time until you get to a drop yard at a DC where you gotta back into tight spaces in broad daylight to drop & hook, eventually you’ll have to back using these principles anyway even if not at a truck stop, so yeah plan ur day so you don’t have to do it every damn night lol but still it’s good to know and understand for when you have no choice & it was out of your control in terms of planning
Thank You! This video explained backing into a spot clearly and simply. I've been struggling as a new driver and after watching your video I was able to nail it first time!!! Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. 👍
You are welcome. I can promise that if you play my game a ton, you will start to understand backing much easier in the real world and it will come more natural for you.
I like it. I've found way helpful to stop for a couple of seconds instead of start in a sudden. I meant, overviews the plan. This set (starting one) sets the perfect set up to do all to bup perfectly.
Why don't these instructors know how to teach??? All they do is wave their hands and yell at you. That teaches me nothing. Seriously, this video is great.

Wow! I was taught to find your parking space then pull up to the next space then start turning your wheels. You pulled up to the next 2 spaces, looks like it made a huge difference. Gonna try it next time
Just passed my CDL test yesterday, but I still am somewhat weak on my backing skills. "My Trucking Skills" has been a very helpful resource. I am going to pay to unlock all the levels in the app and use it to better understand the way to approach these situations.
You are going to be weak on you're backing skills for a long time, if you aren't out on the road with a trainer yet you will find backing between 2 cones in school is alot different then backing between someone's Kenworth and Bubbas shiny chromed out Peterbilt with people pissed off they have to wait on a Rookie to get it in the whole. My best advice is to leave yourself enough time everyday to find a spot, you don't want to be at a narrow truck stop like this in a big city with only a couple tight spots left that no other driver wants. Just take you're time don't be afraid to pull up or get out and look or even swallow you're pride and get out and look, most drivers are assholes that hate rookies but some are very nice people who are more then willing to help.
This is all fine and useful if there are trucks available to guide you to where your mirror is suppose to be. When there are no trucks waiting for you, you use your imagination and trained eye to align your truck. When you get to that point, call yourself a PRO! Well done, bro!
Been watching these videos lately in the last couple days because I'm going become a truck driver and I still struggle a little to back in. These videos are helpful
Got my CDL 3 months ago & I still struggle backing up. I can get my trailers in my spots 90% of the time but my only problem is that I oversteer too much & end up maneuvering my truck into my spot for 5 minutes. This helps a lot, we’ll see tomorrow morning haha
I miss your new production of multi cams, but the recent videos are great and will be a big success because we are in the generation of short and fast, you managed to bring up lessons, formulas and theories from a very complicated subject to teach, Best regards,
1:38 - You need pull Tractor little bit forward and keep beetwen Trailer edge and left open space about 4-feet. That's My Shneider School teach me and I always keeping this rule on my mind.
Important note is if the parking lines are diagonal at an angle you have to pull up a little further about to the 2 and half spot of the trucks. Turning at two trucks usually works only if the lanes are straight
Thank you, I'll test the first one out, I have been using the 90 Degree angle since I left school and been solo; my trainer was always shocked and said, IDK how you students coming out of school do these 90 degree angles, but can't get it done any other way.
