  • Backing from a 45 degree angle is very common in trucking. There are more than one way to set up but this is an easier way in most cases. You don't want to have an accident so take your time and stay accident free and safe.

    This was an absolutely beautiful and much simpler set up than I was Taught. I was taught to pull back to the 12'clock position after the 3'clock, which is similar, but your method of stopping when the tractor and trailer are aligned with each other is so much easier, especially with that extra 8 feet to work with coming back.
    Today is my final day with my trainer and I'll be testing and graduating today after I pass everything at the company. Im so excited for this journey and I appreciate this tutorial as it will definitely help me achieve my goal......AKA (Get Out And Look)😂 naa, but many thanks to you my brother and keep up the amazing work 🙏🏿

    ☂️Thank you for this excellent video.
    Would you be willing to do another 45 degree one? Same setup but tighter with typical empty trailers on the other right hand side.
    Because lot of times it feels like you might hit the other side because its so tight. This video doesn't show if it was tighter on the other side. So if you can demonstrate and explain the proper setup like this one backing between trailers.
    Also I had one small truck like that before but lost the trailer they can be useful.

    • @18WMS
      @18WMS  2 года назад +2

      Hi Jrock! Great question. On all backing opportunities, it's best to look at everything first to determine what to do next. If there's not much room in front of the space you're backing then a couple of options are: Do a 90 degree back or maybe slide the tandems all the way forward (but be mindful of the tail swing). Once the trailer is in the space and you need to pull up, you will have plenty extra room then. Thanks for the question and please stay safe.

      Hi Jeahwang, I'm not sure if this helps but from my experience, it was always easier to have the tandems all the way to the rear on a 90 to not have the tail swing. It all depends on the space you have to work with to determine the angle you want to use.

    When you have less space to do a 45 but you need to do 45 do you turn your wheel to the right one time then go out or what

      Thanks for your question. The best advice I have on any maneuver is to look at what you are working with and set up accordingly. I may not be fully understanding your question, but setting up accordingly to your space is key. Thanks, and please stay safe.

      Hi Mr. Hill, and there may be a time or two where divers may not park in a parking space and shorten our space we need. That's why we should look at it first to figure out what we need to do. We should always plan our move first every time. Thanks for your comment and I wish you the best.

    That's okay, but the hard turn to the left is easier if you go all the way back to 12 o'clock instead of 1:30. The maneuver sets you up for success this way without having to pull up the additional 8 feet. Sometimes, you don't have that space available, so it's better to teach the 12-3-12 method.

    • @18WMS
      @18WMS  2 года назад +3

      Hi Richard and thanks for your comment and input. I do agree that it all depends on the situation at hand. The way I'm showing this in the video never failed fo me. A driver must survey the area and setup accordingly. Thanks and please continue to stay safe.

    • @18WMS

      Plan your work, then work your plan. Before any maneuver, it's a great idea to figure out the best and safest way to set up. Look at the space and items around you and set up accordingly. Get out and look is very important. If you don't have the space for the 3 o'clock , then use a different set up. Thanks and I wish you the best.
