If you're on the fence about watching these previews..honestly, it's probably better not to. But it's not an easy thing to resist... Regardless, I think we're all in for a good time
i watched the first part to get me hyped but cant watch the second one... The first playtrough of a soulsborne game is a unique experience and i dont wanna ruin it for myself
These spoilers are going to get blasted into every fromsoft group available. Wtf are we supposed to do if we don't want to get spoiled now, stay off social media for the rest of the month if we hope to go in blind? Releasing this video is a d*ck move and you know it. Truly pathetic
I'm sorry vaati, usually I watch all your videos but I don't want to see anything more than I saw for the dlc, I want to go blind, so I'm gonna pass. Thanks again for your work, hope you had (and will have even more) fun with this dlc
There are two wolves inside me. One plagued with the desire to catch a glimpse of the DLC, and the other adamant in refusing to see any spoilers so I can experience it firsthand.
I watched part of the new footage, but now I feel bad about it, like I wished to discover those areas on my own, but at the same time it's just too great to see how damn amazing everything is in this dlc
I'M BEING TOLD THAT THE BLESSING I MENTION TOWARDS THE END OF THE VIDEO WAS REFERENCING MESSMER, NOT MIQUELLA. OH NO I blame the person who told me the item description 😬 I've now cut this section out of the video (it's processing now)
Oh wow, that changes that item very much so Vaati. That means you shared 2 items that show Marika and Messmer are very much aligned (which I already suspected). That's a very big deal. I mean really, why would someone named "The Impaler" run from anyone?? Thanks!
@AyyyyyyyyyLmao not to pile on but it didnt talke a genius to figure out that it was likely to be the dlc entrance. 1. Know that miquella is in the cacoon at Moghwyn Dynasty. 2. Know that the dlc is about Miquella. As soon as I saw the Shadow of The Erd Tree art with Miquella riding Torrent, which was before the dlc trailers came out, I had a hunch where the entrance would be
I BOTH REALLY WANNA WATCH THIS BUT ALSO NOT BECAUSE I WANNA BE FLABBERGASTED WHEN I PLAY IT FOR MYSELFFFFFFF Edit: I was, indeed, flabbergasted when I got my ass kicked in the DLC.
BRO I WANT WATCH THIS TOO BUT I ALSO DONT BC I WANT THAT FEELING WHEN I FIRST PLAYED ELDEN RING 2 YEARS AGO WE WILL FEEL THAT IN 2 WEEKS DONT WATCH IT JUST LIKE AND CLOSE THIS VIDEO
The landscapes in Elden Ring are so breathtaking, it's like every frame is a work of art. From snowy peaks to dark dungeons, every corner begs to be explored.
It's also interesting to point out that Rellana is the YOUNGEST of the siblings, so there might be more sisters/brothers, maybe the person sitting in the trailer, perhaps
I think it's a twofer pun, and it opens a really interesting door the three norse fates were Urd [Erd] Skuld [which in japanese would be skardu, with the u silent] and Verdande, see why this is an interesting door, because if we have an urd tree and Skuld tree doesn't that suggest the potential of a third, Verdande, tree the maiden norns [all the same age in norse myth]live in a cave under Yggdrassil - the world tree..... I mean, I can't be the only one to see it
Vaati not only beat two legacy dungeons under three hours but also transcribed all NPC dialog and a bunch of itens on top of it...damn, never promised anything and overdelivered anyways, you spoil us brother. Thank you
Pretty big chance Vaati used a spirit ash or something to help them beat the boss so they could ensure they got as much progress done in those three hours.
@TC-sl8ol not really. Some people do use it in a meme way, but it started in Ernest. If you actually get good because you watch the boss patterns, movements, when to take openings & play by the rules the game gives you vs trying to force your own will, the games aren't actuslly that hard 90% of the time. Most people don't this & instead button mash, don't observe attack patterns, panic roll/ panic heal, etc.
For me, something that reminded me a lot of a previous FromSoft DLC is the greatsword Milady; the way the player holds it out to the side is very reminiscent to one of the attacks Lady Maria does in Bloodborne.
DUDE THAT LIGHT GREATSWORD and all the other weapons. It's something ive always wanted. to two hand a blade but not have it held like a greatsword or a regular sword. This is so awesome. Thank you for the video. it's really helping me get through these last 17 days.
The light greatsword immediately activates my neurons and I feel like I need to prep a new dex build specifically for the Milady because WOW that looks so cool
I feel like I gotta write this down somewhere. I think the Land of Shadow is basically the lobby of the afterlife. people arrive in the land of shadows, stay there for a bit, and get sorted into their beliefs, some might worship the Helphen or the Erdtree (this is also why i think we'll meet Godwyn and Radhan). I wondered why the Lands Between was called "The Lands Between". I figured it was because it was in the middle of all these lands like Eochade and The Land of Reeds, but now I figure The Lands Between is between The Land of Shadow and some opposite version of The Land of Shadow.
This realm acts as a transitional space where souls are sorted based on their beliefs and deeds. It’s a place where the dead await their fate, aligning with various afterlife beliefs. The concept of being sorted into worship of different deities like the Helphen or the Erdtree suggests a diverse and multifaceted afterlife system, reflecting the varied cultures and religions in the game. If the Land of Shadow serves as a staging ground for souls, it stands to reason that significant figures like Godwyn and Radahn could be encountered here. Their presence would add depth to their stories and provide players with crucial lore insights. These encounters could also serve as pivotal moments in the game, where players learn more about the motivations and fates of these key characters. Your interpretation that the Lands Between is situated between the Land of Shadow and an opposite realm adds a dualistic structure to the game's world. This makes the Lands Between a pivotal point in the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. This idea fits with the name "Lands Between," suggesting it is a central hub or battleground between life and death, light and shadow, and possibly other opposing forces. This theory enhances the player's understanding of the world’s metaphysical structure. The Lands Between becomes more than just a physical realm; it’s a spiritual and metaphysical battleground where various forces vie for dominance. It also deepens the player's connection to the characters and their struggles, as their journeys through life, death, and possibly rebirth are integral to the game's story. Exploring the Land of Shadow could offer players unique challenges and encounters, reflecting the struggles of souls in transition. It might feature varied environments and enemies representing different aspects of the afterlife. Players might uncover hidden lore and secrets about the origins and destinies of major characters, enriching the overall narrative experience. Understanding the Land of Shadow’s role could influence how players approach their journey. It adds a layer of existential motivation, as the Tarnished’s quest is not just about physical conquest but also about spiritual redemption and understanding. Players might encounter NPCs in the Land of Shadow who offer quests or guidance based on their beliefs. Completing these quests could impact the player’s journey and ending. Interactions with major characters like Godwyn and Radahn could unlock new abilities, weapons, or insights into the lore. If there's an opposite realm to the Land of Shadow, it could feature contrasting environments and mechanics. This duality might be reflected in the game's challenges and rewards, offering a balanced exploration of light and dark themes.
Brave VaatiVidya ran away. Bravely ran away away. When danger reared it's ugly head, He bravely turned his tail and fled. Brave VaatiVidya turned about And gallantly he chickened out. Swiftly taking to his feet, He beat a very brave retreat. Bravest of the brave, VaatiVidya!
Alas, in frozen land of the consecrated snow fields, they were forced to eat Sir Vaati’s minstrels. And there was much rejoicing. “Yay! Little flags wave”
the beastclaw moveset looks crazy, I love all the new weapon types already my god! also thanks for transcribing the item descriptions and dialogue, that stuff makes me more hyped to find them in my own palythrough!! also hyped for more fashion armor sets like for example the "Gloried Attire" worn in your gameplay footage @ 5:00 !
When you look at their horned armor, their locations in Stormveil and Sol, use of lightning/storm attacks, and the flowing lion on their heraldry, I think there is strong evidence that the Banished Knights, O'Neil and Niall were all originally from the same culture as the Lion Dancer People and were "banished" from the Land of Shadow.
It’s very cool how you pointed out that banished knights (including the Commanders) have omen-horned armour AND that they have manipulation over storm. This is a cool discovery made from the fact the we learn that the Omen-horned divine beasts are sent from the heavens - from which storm is most abundant. I’d also like to add that there are these bird enemies (although they resemble more Deathbird imagery than Stormhawks) that are in the same city as the divine lion beasts - and stormhawks inhabit areas that are riddled with Bansihed Knights
isn't there various NPC's who also mention an Eclipse of some sort at castle sol? along with the eclipse shotel? Those things are directly connected to Miquella, too, who seems to be a focus of the DLC. Interesting connection
This is something that's bothered me in FromSoft games for a while. The "greatswords" have always been more Beserk blades than actual longswords/greatswords and as much as I love a big heavy chunk of metal, two-handing a basic sword has always felt better - that's what ultra-greatswords and the like were for.
The animations for those claws blew me away. I love how animalistic and ferocious they are, contrasted by Milady's graceful dancing. It still baffles me how we're getting eight entirely new weapon types and if they've put as much effort into all of them as the ones shown here, we're in for a real treat. Rellana's Twinblade also sounds chuuni as all hell and I wouldn't have it any other way.
13:57 those graphics and colors really stood out for some reason (in a good way)... imagine what miyazaki will cook for the next fromsoftware souls game.
The idea of Rennala having a hitherto-unmentioned younger sister named Rellana who abandoned her family to ally with the new villain (and is presumably more powerful than Rennala, given her placement in DLC taking place after Mohg) is the most fanfic-y concept I’ve ever heard in a FromSoft game and I love it
@yourerightdawg So what I'm hearing is that simping runs in the family. Rennala for Radagon, Rellana for Messmer, Radahn for Godfrey, and me for Ranni! Wait, that's not right-
The light greatsword is my literal dream elden ring weapon, a true longsword. The "longswords" of elden ring were tiny and the greatswords were way too big. So hype about this unexpected addition.
I like how the wickerman has fire giants grafted onto to give it their fire incantations. There’s always so much story built into the designs of enemies.(also I thought the lionfighter was an omen from the horns on it from the trailer but it could be new race)
They still have omen horns. From my understanding, Belurat - and the Shadow Realm in general - will make use of the opportunity for treating omens MUCH better with how they’re treated by the Golden Order in the basegame. Evidence: in the *basegame* those who have horns are said to be signs of “omenbirth”. But notice how the word “omen” (SO FAR from this video, regarding omen lore) is never used in the *DLC* but instead: “divine”, “hornsent” etc. Omen seems to be a word created by Golden Order fundamentalists to demean them. And in the Shadow Lands, they’re the “hornsent” due to their close relations to divinity
I hope the beast claws have balanced hyper armor because I imagine it would be very annoying to be cancelled and knocked to the ground with all those attacks
I thought that I heard martial arts was also going to be acquired skill, no weapon required just bare hand. But I haven’t watched the whole vid yet to get the martial arts yet
@@monhi64 It's technically a weapon. You equip them, but there's no actual visible weapon, but the martial arts are modifiable like a weapon, and also can be effected by scaling and etc like one.
I have one character that's level 150 that's right before the fire giant, Mogh and Malenia. Sparing Mogh until the DLC comes out is mainly just as a fun celebration once the DLC comes out, but I'm also curious if Leda will be summonable for the fight
14:16 "Bolsters spectral steed's abilities to deal and negate damage" Me: OOOOOOOOHH NEW TORRENT ATTACKS "Obviously in Torrent's case it just reduces the damage you take" Me: D:
@@norbertcsaszar4746 to be fair, I think he said something more like "about the size of", it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Miyazaki's "about" is like 2x as big lol
@@norbertcsaszar4746I think the playable area is the same size but it is a lot more dense. Limgrave is big but there’s a lot of parts to it with little to nothing of interest.
Miyazaki also said that they tried to intertwine the open world more with legacy dungeons. So it might actually be the size of Limgrave, just jam packed with dungeons.
Your Elden Ring content is so wonderful. I fell in love with this game recently and a massive part of that was your Prepare to Cry series. I loved the production and Shear quality that went into the series and the best part is you tell the story in such a wonderful way. Thank you for that. Hope you keep making content ❤
I think the fact that Mesmer has his own butterflies in the DLC proves that Melina is one of Marika's children, and the smouldering butterflies are hers. Maybe her "curse" was that she was born a spirit and has never been able to move about on her own.
She's the gloam eyed queen, who Marika bodied but probably didn't want to fully get rid of as a backup plan against the 3 fingers. She threatens you with destined death.
@@keithtestaverde3712 That's not even slightly confirmed. The player can use destined death as well, and multiple types of magic in the game can change your eye color like hers is. It's a possibility, but don't say that as though it's a fact Especially since there's nothing saying that the Gloam Eyed Queen can't be Marika's daughter. We don't know the timeline
@@keithtestaverde3712 you're speculating a lot here. None of it has been confirmed and one thing doesn't exclude the other. Even if she was the gloam eyed queen, she could still be Marika's daughter. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
@@keithtestaverde3712 That would mean Marika killed her own daughter though, which is pretty awful, even for her. (assuming its not mistranslated and Melina actually means "my mother inside the erdtree")
We’re currently at the Puttrescent Knight and I’m in Awe. This thing is so clearly inspired by the Nuckelavee, an absolutely HORRIFIC legend from the Orkney Isles about a ghastly centaur like creature that rises from the depths of the oceans during the winter months. One of the few creatures of myth with absolutely ZERO positive traits about him, he represents the resentment of the time of famine and shortages the people of the area experienced in the old days. But he’s a pretty obscure legend and I never thought I’d see him represented in a game. This is awesome that he’s inspired this incredible boss fight!
The dance being turned towards martial ends is exactly how Capoeira became a Brazilian martial art against prison guards and slave drivers. It was a combination of religious dances from the area and West Africa where the enslaved people were brought from, and practiced as a dance but was used to fight back, escape, and to defend themselves. Becoming so effective it became outlawed in Brazil where gangs and local warlords would use them as personal guard, like samurai. Not a 1-to-1, I totally understand, but a fun parallel.
wow, thanks for the insight🙏 And it’s so badass, but also tragic, how the Divine Beast is forced to convert its festive culture and non-hostile tradition into war beasts
the story of Rellana and Messmer seems to be another "Prepare To Cry" video. "here and here alone, were moon and fire ever together" that's a love story! I wonder what went wrong...
There seems to be a theme of Messmer being more “headstrong” and “determined” - is some ways - than many of his men/soldiers. The Black Knight armour suggests that the black knights followed Messmer in his Rebellion - similar to how leftover Leyndell Knights followed Rykard into rebellion - until (just like Rykard’s men) found out their lord had greater goals and ideals, regarding the symbol of the Serpent. Already, there seems to be so much parallel to the basegame’s Rykard (who likely took inspiration from Messmer), so I wonder if Rellana’s story will be easily extrapolated by looking at Rykard’s relationship with Tannith?
If someone already mentioned this my bad but the knight of the solitary jail is 100% a nod to Berserk. The armor is almost exactly the the same as the the berserker armor minus the helmet, the description of the greatsword also connects to the berserker armor in that weilding the armor essentially takes the life from the wearer to heighten their prowess. The description mentions 2 engravings depicting the light of birth and solitude probably referencing the falcon of light (Griffith) and his rebirth at the tower of conviction along with the struggler (Guts) and his self-inflicted fight with solitude at different points throughout his journey. Top it off with a bit of repeating crossbow icing and we have a big ole Berserk reference cake
The knight's armor closely resembles the Berserker Armor worn by Guts in Berserk. The visual design, minus the helmet, mirrors the dark, menacing appearance of Guts' armor, known for enhancing his combat abilities at great personal cost. The greatsword's description mentioning life-draining qualities aligns with how the Berserker Armor functions in Berserk. It grants immense power but at the expense of the wearer's health and sanity. The engravings depicting the light of birth and solitude likely reference pivotal themes in Berserk. The "light of birth" can be tied to Griffith's transformation into the Falcon of Light and his rebirth, while "solitude" reflects Guts' ongoing struggle against his fate and isolation. The inclusion of a repeating crossbow is a clear nod to Guts' own weapon, reinforcing the connection. This weapon is iconic in Berserk and symbolizes Guts' relentless and resourceful combat style. Recognizing this reference adds depth to the encounter with the knight of the solitary jail. It transforms the fight from a simple battle into a tribute to the themes of struggle, sacrifice, and resilience central to Berserk. This homage enriches the player's experience, particularly for fans of the manga, as it acknowledges and celebrates Berserk's influence on dark fantasy narratives. The knight embodies the tragic hero archetype, much like Guts. Players can draw parallels between the knight’s plight and Guts’ journey, adding layers of empathy and understanding to the character. This reference also emphasizes the themes of power at a cost, solitude, and the struggle against fate, which are prevalent in "Elden Ring." The knight’s aggressive and relentless combat style could be designed to mirror Guts' ferocity, requiring players to adapt and respond to a relentless assault. Special abilities or items that drain the user's health for increased power, reflecting the Berserker Armor’s effects, could add a strategic layer to combat. Quests or lore entries that further explore the backstory of the knight, drawing on themes from Berserk, could provide additional context and enrich the world-building. Discovering more about the engravings and their significance could lead to deeper insights into the character’s motivations and history.
Some info on Ballarat for the lore seekers. Ballarat, as other have mentioned is a town in Australia. The name derived from two Aboriginal words meaning “resting place”. You can interpret “resting place” in two ways: somewhere to stop and rest along a journey; and the place where someone is buried (i.e. their final resting place). Both contexts could be applicable here, depending on whether you look at it from the perspective of Miquella’s travels or what happened to the inhabitants when Messmer burned the town. Ballarat was the scene of an armed rebellion known as the Eureka Stockade (more info on Wikipedia), but briefly the locals demanded political reform and more freedoms, and the authorities responded in force, shooting 25 people. Parallels with Messmer perhaps?
The “I’m not watching” comments are a bit annoying to us who want to talk about the videos. I mean these guys are nobodies. If a celebrity wants to tell us they’re not playing then great, public interest, but does anyone care if random geeks want to watch video or not?
SAME. I actually was hoping so much that we get something like that. That, the gravity spell that pulls in and the tracking projectiles are all making me incredibly hopeful about playing mage. Also can't wait to see the double moon spell.
Seeing the Dancing Lion in action and hearing its name just made me realize that it's not a monster but a bunch of dudes (maybe omens) in a lion costume made to resemble the Chinese Dancing Dragons that you see in parades and festivals during Chinese New Year. They're basically puppeteers performing a "dance" to attack the player.
Concerning Leda I just wanted to note a thing about her name. There are two different meanings of the word "leda" in Swedish, one of which is clearly relevant, while the other might turn out to be relevant. The first meaning of "leda" is the verb "lead," "to lead" being "att leda" in Swedish, and obviously she is leading us into the DLC and toward Miquella. The second meaning is the noun "leda" cognate with the English "loathing" but with a slightly different meaning, denoting a sense of existential boredom and ennui, or the sense of being deeply tired and weary. To be "led" with someone does not mean that you loath them, but rather that you are fed up with them. Fromsoft do seem to like hiding character clues in different languages, like "lapp" meaning "patch" in Swedish and Lapp being Patches alter ego in DS3:tRC.
The verb "leda" means "to lead" in Swedish, which directly connects to her role in guiding players into the DLC and toward Miquella. This interpretation suggests that Leda is a pivotal character in steering the player’s journey and uncovering new aspects of the game's world. This leadership role could imply that Leda possesses significant knowledge or influence, making her a key figure in the unfolding events of the DLC. The noun "leda" denotes a sense of existential boredom, weariness, or ennui. This subtle nuance might hint at deeper themes associated with her character, such as a profound fatigue with the state of the world or her circumstances. If Leda embodies this existential weariness, her motivations and actions might be driven by a desire to escape or change her situation, reflecting a deeper narrative of struggle and discontent. As a leader, Leda's guidance can be crucial in navigating the complexities of the DLC. Her knowledge about Miquella and the new areas might provide essential context and direction for the player. This role might also imply that Leda has her own goals and motivations, possibly intertwining with the player's journey in unexpected ways. If Leda represents a character weary of her existence, this could add a poignant emotional layer to her story. Her weariness might reflect broader themes of decay, stagnation, or a longing for renewal within the game's world. This existential aspect could influence her interactions with the player, providing depth to her character and the narrative she is part of. FromSoftware has a history of embedding linguistic clues in character names, as seen with "Lapp" in "Dark Souls III." This practice enriches the lore by adding layers of meaning that keen-eyed players can uncover. This pattern suggests that the choice of "Leda" is deliberate and meant to convey specific narrative or thematic elements. Leda’s quests might involve themes of leadership, guidance, and confronting existential weariness. Players could help her address her discontent or uncover deeper truths about the world. Dialogues with Leda could reveal her thoughts on leadership, her sense of weariness, and her motivations, providing richer context and emotional depth. Lore entries and items related to Leda might explore her dual role as a leader and a character burdened by existential ennui, offering insights into her past and her connection to Miquella. Exploring these themes can add complexity to the narrative, encouraging players to reflect on the broader implications of leadership and existential struggle.
Elden Ring was my first ever souls game and i got it pretty close to launch, so you can say i am a relatively new souls player ever since then ive fallen in love with miyazaki's work and have played Bloodborne (DLC included), Demon's Souls and DS3, working on getting platinum for most of them as the next game I plan on getting is Sekiro i love your work and im glad to be another fellow player with you as my main source of lore and secrets, i cant wait to play the dlc and im just thankful for having discovered this genre of games that i absolutely adore, we are definetely in for a good time
Oh God, the light greatsword sounds exactly like the type of weapon I've always wanted in these games. I'm a greatsword main but I always thought they were just little bit slow. I'm gonna be collecting _all_ the weapons and armor.
@@diooverheaven6561 I just hope the damage is decent, but as long as they're stronger than the straight swords I'll probably be satisfied. Also interested in the great katana and hand-to-hand. The rest I'm not particularly excited for, though I am pretty completionist when it comes to collecting gear.
After like a decade of being inspired by real medieval weapons and armor, fromsoft finally gave us accurate longswords in the light greatsword category. I have never been so fucking hyped lmao.
I mean, I'd say regular longswords are already pretty accurate, aside from the fact you can one hand them, but that's already the case with all fromsoft weapons
this is just how much I appreciate @vaatiVidya content: i watch every one of your videos and I have never played any soul like game. like ever. I just appreciate you and the content you make.
Started the dlc an hour ago, and just like you said in the video, the first thing I did was head straight to the furnace golem boss. It's surprisingly easy to kill if you're on horseback. The only attacks that can hit you are it's foot stomps, and you can just jump over the shockwaves to completely avoid the damage
My theory is that the inside of the erdtree is the underworld, and marika is holding the erdtree closed in the trailer blocking those from death from breaking through. That’s why the tree is closed in game and golden order spells do extra damaged vs undead. Also makes sense why the catacombs are connected to tree roots and how dead godwyn has corrupted trees and death root is dying tree roots. Could be wrong but a lot tied together
That kinda tracks with my theory that inside of the Erdtree is answer to why Elden Ring's setting is called "The Land's Between." In the fight with the Elden Beast you see the same giant towers that you do you in Ash Lash in DS1 and the Hunter's Dream in Blood Born. It's not a terribly fleshed out theory and there's not a lot of evidence for it, but I always that it was fun to image that Elden Ring took place in "The Lands Between" all other FromSoft games.
Marika is indeed deeply tied to the Erdtree and the Greater Will. As the vassal of the Greater Will, she becomes the bearer of the Elden Ring, which is the source of the Erdtree's power. The idea that Marika might be holding the Erdtree closed aligns with her role as a guardian and enforcer of the Greater Will's power. This could explain her imprisonment within the Erdtree after the shattering of the Elden Ring. The Golden Order spells being more effective against the undead could suggest a deliberate design to combat forces that are inherently opposed to the Order's principles. The undead represent a defiance of the natural order of life and death as dictated by the Greater Will. The Erdtree's closure might be a mechanism to contain these forces. The connection of catacombs to tree roots and the presence of deathroot further supports the idea of a symbiotic relationship between the Erdtree and the underworld. The deathroot, associated with Godwyn the Golden's death, symbolizes a corruption spreading through the roots, indicating a deep connection between the physical roots of the Erdtree and the metaphysical roots of death. Godwyn's death and his transformation into the Prince of Death, with his corpse intertwined with the roots of the Erdtree, provide strong imagery of corruption seeping into the Erdtree from within. This aligns with your theory that the tree roots are connected to death and the underworld. The presence of deathroot, symbolizing dying or corrupted tree roots, ties back to Godwyn's influence spreading through the Erdtree's network. The visuals and symbolism in Elden Ring often tie life, death, and the cycle of rebirth together. The Erdtree, representing life and light, contrasting with the catacombs and deathroot, could symbolize the eternal struggle between life and death. Marika's role might be to maintain the balance, ensuring that the undead and forces of death do not overrun the living world.
The problem with that is, its locked behind the DLC (along with every new weapon type) which means you have to pretty much beat most of the base game to access it which sucks.. albeit i suppose with communities like patches emporium.. it will be possible to get dlc gear instantly on a new character.. Hmmmm idk, i just wish the dlc didnt require beating a large portion of the base game just to access
Ohhhhh my my my! I can’t wait for the full lore to come out. I am sooo very much excited. Anyway I would usually watch all the lore then play the game so that I can better understand the story. Thank you for the hard work vaati
Interesting little tidbits i picked up during the wait 1. The banished knights, and their commanders, O'Neal and Niall, have mastery over storms 2. Both of them seem to follow Miquella 3. O'Neal and Niall are both Irish names 4. The Hornsent npc from the previews speaks with an Irish accent 5. The Hornsent people worship beasts/dragons, and revere those capable of creating storms
Brave Sir Vaati ran away. ("No!") Bravely ran away away. ("I didn't!") When danger reared it's ugly head, He bravely turned his tail and fled. ("I never!") Yes, brave Sir Vaati turned about And gallantly he chickened out. ("You're lying!") Swiftly taking to his feet, He beat a very brave retreat. Bravest of the brave, Sir Vaati!
something that just hit me is the blessings from the tree are probobly how the erdtree blessing USED to work, and helps show its decline since it is no longer granting those around it strength and vitaltiy
the weapons that were showed off really make it feel like we're playing as enemies and bosses, even more than some of the more intense weapon arts and movesets in the base game other than like, maybe waterfowl dance. Beast Claws and the Light Greatsword especially stand out to me.
The Light Greatsword animations look like your character spent the last 2 years farming Melania to learn her fighting style, and then made it their own.
A couple of observations from a Swede; Leda, as a verb means to lead, to guide, to direct or to be in a position of leadership in Swedish, so it would be a fitting name for our guide. However as a noun; Leda can mean a sense of boredom, displeasure or aversion, especially towards something you've had too much of. It would be kind of cool if that was intentional and she ends up betraying us or something, because she's had enough of the quest she has set out on. Also; Freyja is a goddess in Norse mythology and Ymir was the giant in Norse mythology who was the ancestor of all Jötnar(Giants) and whose body was basically used to create the world. Could potentially be some interesting allusions to events in the game.
I was on the fence and watched the video, I don’t regret it, you gave us enough to get me HYPED!!!!! But not so much as to remove much mystery, I myself, am ever more intrigued!!! Thank you!
I want to see how my base game weapons handle them before I start trying out the new weapons. Godskin Peeler got me through Placidusax, Radagon, and Elden Beast, so I'm going to see how they like black flame tornado. The Bloodhound's Fang also hasn't steered me wrong yet. That said, I was grinning massively when he said that quality builds would be eating good in the DLC since that's the character I'm going in with first. I have a second faith-based build character, but she's way too early to even think about the DLC.
It really feels like Bandai-Namco are in the minority of bigger studios as far as making games that really feel like passion projects. And unlike so many things, I don't think that will _ever_ get old. Games like this (and BG3, for a recent comparison) just feel so... loved. They're the only games I can think of where I know/know of people who don't play them, but are still very invested in them (y'know, like watching a 2 hour lore video for a game you don't play kind of invested), and it's so lovely to see when so many games feel half-finished and dispassionate. Also, not having the means to play Elden Ring (yet) makes watching this video _such_ an easy choice!
If you're on the fence about watching these previews..honestly, it's probably better not to. But it's not an easy thing to resist...
Regardless, I think we're all in for a good time
You got that right, temptation is strong but we must resist, I however couldn't, I am too weak but good luck soldiers.

I think it's a twofer pun, and it opens a really interesting door
the three norse fates were Urd [Erd] Skuld [which in japanese would be skardu, with the u silent] and Verdande, see why this is an interesting door, because if we have an urd tree and Skuld tree doesn't that suggest the potential of a third, Verdande, tree

@TC-sl8ol not really. Some people do use it in a meme way, but it started in Ernest. Finally we can give the king the fight he deserves 😂
@@kishinasura1989 Right. I’m just waiting for someone to get to phase 2 of him then switch to the beast head thing with beast claws.
This duality might be reflected in the game's challenges and rewards, offering a balanced exploration of light and dark themes.

the beastclaw moveset looks crazy, I love all the new weapon types already my god! also thanks for transcribing the item descriptions and dialogue, that stuff makes me more hyped to find them in my own palythrough!! also hyped for more fashion armor sets like for example the "Gloried Attire" worn in your gameplay footage @ 5:00 !
Damn that's actually a good point! We never actually learn where they come from.
Yes, they are likely of the storm lord
isn't there various NPC's who also mention an Eclipse of some sort at castle sol? along with the eclipse shotel? Those things are directly connected to Miquella, too, who seems to be a focus of the DLC. Interesting connection
what does their locations in Stormveil and Sol have to do with anything though
The Light Greatswords are basically IRL Long Swords, and I LOVE it! Exactly what I wanted since the first day I played Elden Ring.
Original greatsword moveset is in the gutter i almost fainted seeing these new weapon attack patterns.
you're welcome btw. spoke to miyazaki about this for you
This is something that's bothered me in FromSoft games for a while. The "greatswords" have always been more Beserk blades than actual longswords/greatswords and as much as I love a big heavy chunk of metal, two-handing a basic sword has always felt better - that's what ultra-greatswords and the like were for.
Bloodhound fang is basically a light greatsword. Why it is so good.

The game was really lacking in twin blade options
Yeah I love the twinblades but there were so few of them

13:57 those graphics and colors really stood out for some reason (in a good way)... imagine what miyazaki will cook for the next fromsoftware souls game.
The idea of Rennala having a hitherto-unmentioned younger sister named Rellana who abandoned her family to ally with the new villain (and is presumably more powerful than Rennala, given her placement in DLC taking place after Mohg) is the most fanfic-y concept I’ve ever heard in a FromSoft game and I love it
Well to be fair,Renalla is simping over Radagon
people joked about essmer the piercer they're not ready for rellana knight of the twin moon
Renalla had basically lost her mind. the second stage is an illusion from Ranni, so we don't really know how strong she is.
rellana might also get boosted from having support from messmer's side whilst rennala would only have the powers of the moon.
Elumy loyce greatsword, my beloved returns!
Same here man! The desire for a true longsword may finally be satiated. Now I hope that most are Dex based ;)
All it needs is to have Square Off available and I'm set
Same! From what we see it feels like it'll be the perfect balance of reach and weight
The "Scadu" part of "Scadutree" sounds almost exactly like the Dutch "schaduw", which means "shadow".
Pretty cool.
Schaduw in Dutch!
Scadu is Old English for shadow/shade. (Halig is similar, etymologically, meaning holy, and Erd means home.)
Yeah when he said Scadu, I had to rewind two times to make sure it wasn’t Dutch
It's also a swear word. example: Go scadu yourself
I mean the German influences allover the game are getting kinda obvious. Ansbach for example is literally a german town close to Nuremberg.
Even has a dragon head sticking out on its side!
These weapon movements feel like a different game, those beast claws were absolutely insane! God this looks so sick. I cannot wait until the 20th.
I hope the beast claws have balanced hyper armor because I imagine it would be very annoying to be cancelled and knocked to the ground with all those attacks

Not a 1-to-1, I totally understand, but a fun parallel.
wow, thanks for the insight🙏
And it’s so badass, but also tragic, how the Divine Beast is forced to convert its festive culture and non-hostile tradition into war beasts

the story of Rellana and Messmer seems to be another "Prepare To Cry" video.
"here and here alone, were moon and fire ever together"
that's a love story!
I wonder what went wrong...
She thought she could complete messmer but his hatred proved to be too much perhaps?
"I can fix him." - Rellana, Twin Moon Knight
It can also serve as a parallel for Rennalla and Radagons "love story"

This reference also emphasizes the themes of power at a cost, solitude, and the struggle against fate, which are prevalent in "Elden Ring."
The knight’s aggressive and relentless combat style could be designed to mirror Guts' ferocity, requiring players to adapt and respond to a relentless assault.

What about the Swan?

Elden Ring was my first ever souls game and i got it pretty close to launch, so you can say i am a relatively new souls player
ever since then ive fallen in love with miyazaki's work and have played Bloodborne (DLC included), Demon's Souls and DS3, working on getting platinum for most of them as the next game I plan on getting is Sekiro
i love your work and im glad to be another fellow player with you as my main source of lore and secrets, i cant wait to play the dlc and im just thankful for having discovered this genre of games that i absolutely adore, we are definetely in for a good time
Oh God, the light greatsword sounds exactly like the type of weapon I've always wanted in these games. I'm a greatsword main but I always thought they were just little bit slow.
I'm gonna be collecting _all_ the weapons and armor.
Yes more realistic greatsword for the win
@@diooverheaven6561 I just hope the damage is decent, but as long as they're stronger than the straight swords I'll probably be satisfied. Also interested in the great katana and hand-to-hand.

Perfumes being a weapon type is so exciting. Ive always wanted it as soon as ive seen the perfumers
I've always wanted to do a perfumer character, but it turns out doing that vanilla is more of a challenge run than a real build lol
Right!!! I thought I was the only one who wanted to play as a perfumer, I think they should have been a playable class

A couple of observations from a Swede;
Leda, as a verb means to lead, to guide, to direct or to be in a position of leadership in Swedish, so it would be a fitting name for our guide.
Min observation som en svensk: DLCn kommer ut på midsommar så jag måste välja mellan att vara med folk eller sitta i ett varmt rum och spela...
