Arachne doesn't work for any gods or goddesses and does her own thing (without drawing unwanted attention to herself).
Right, I feel it would be up to Arachne at the end of the day. If we are following Hades 1, it was Time that helped resolve Sisyphus' conflict with Bouldy, and Arachne adjusted slightly better thanks to Time. There's a chance she may want to keep her spider form for her weaving talents but wants acknowledgements from the gods or some form of reparations.
To give some useful context in the myth of Arachne - Ovid, who wrote the Metamorphoses, really liked painting the gods as irrational, flawed and jealous of humanity, punishing humans by stripping them of their skill and their identtiy (probably because he was grumpy about being exiled by Augustus, and was projecting like crazy. For example; Medusa, Arachne, Io, etc) All the myths he used already existed, but he re-wrote them to be more unfair- which is why, in the most common version of the myth, Athena spontaneously displays the shockingly out-of-character trait of ENVY, rather than destroying Arachne's work due to her lack of respect (in the original myths Arachne claimed herself to be a better weaver than Athena herself and that she would win a weaving competition against her, a classic Greek Hubris Tragedy where the hero thinks too highly of themselves and is reminded, painfully, that they are NOT gods, but Ovid's version doesn't make sense for the rest of the pantheon's canon). Besides, Arachne's trapestry displayed *fifteen* separate occassions where Zeus and/or Poseidon dropped everything to bang women, more than half the time shaped as an animal while they did it (believe it or not there are even modern painting portraying the exact same thing Dx), imagine Athena's face when she saw a visual display of her dad and uncle banging everything that moves. (Plus, she never showed interest in sex in the myths). While she admites she admires Arachne's skill and execution, she is upset by the disrespectful choice and honest to god (haha) wacks Arachne on the head with her weaving shuttle 🤣Arachne feels devastated by the critique like any artist and considers taking her life, (in some version she even does take her life) and Athena saves her life by transforming her into a spider. Of course, Arachne may or may not have ben okay with that haha
This was an interesting read thank you very much.! It's not in this video because for whatever reason, new Arachne dialogue was found (Probably an in-game update). But in Supergiant's version, Arachne provides more detail about the competition, claiming that Athena's final product did not even come close. Arachne's curse in exchange for Athena's humiliation. Based on how you describe Ovid's work, I would enjoy these interpretations more because I find gods being fallible as a more compelling insight to human nature. Very fascinating that Arachne's work was depicting the gods this way, quite the statement to how the gods could easily have their way with anyone. Art has always been powerful and used to make a statement. Arachne viewed as an artist that challenge the gods, or the status quo with her tapestries sounds like a modern interpretation if you ask me. Now I do agree, the gods purposefully punishing humanity may be a stretch.
@@Hamstir4 I see! it could be that Supergiant wants to make Hades II with a different look towards the pantheon (I could swear I've read somewhere about Melinoë not being a fan of her family either) in contrast to Zagreus being close to other deities and the gods being more complex and the myths having more than what they originally seemed. To the point of wanting to just mess up with the mortals' beliefs a little So maybe the gods are more flawed or even more evil leaning towards mortals, like Moros admits he and the Fates every now and then mess with mortals to spice up the prophecies even though he regrets it. I feel with Arachne's work it could be a mix of her being ahead of her time, and a mix of her making fun of the gods and shoving NSFW at Athena's face xD plus... women in Greece weren't exactly well respected, and that was represented in the myths as well but it was the norm ^^U so maybe you could say Arachne showing gods that way was like the portraying of what we will see today as... idk, a woman in the modern day saying she doesn't want to have children, and a bunch of people going *gasps*. Of course, that treatment was bad back in the day and it's bad today, just thinking in the possible context for ovid's train of thought. BTW, Athena's tapestry showed five different myths, four of them showing gods punishing fo people extreme hubris, with a central big one showing the origins of the city Athens. Maybe that's what Arachne meant XD

When she said about "Gods being fine with you, until you are inferior to them" , it made resounding a theory I have. Zeus freed the titans because he was afraid of zagreus. There isn't so much info about zagreus God except in some versions he is god in command because he is blessed /married to gea. Remember, it is gea the one who give power/role as ruler to gods , when the god lost her approval, they lost their role. Zeus ate his first wife to avoid Athena took his place, in previous game Zagreus admits Zeus is impulsive and not thinking of consequences. For that hecate hide Mel to olympus except few ones, she knows someone has betrayed the house of hades. In while time zagreus and gea just shared a deep friendship nothing more.

@@Hamstir4 I will be in denial too about Sisyphus, it is too banal. But people who hates gods a lot. My idea, zagreus has become a powerful god, god of life and blood and met gea. So Zeus used some souls who own him for free titans, he just wanted to messing up a bit and killed zagreus by accident, nothing too permanent. But or course things went wrong, chronos ate zagreus and earn his power too, become too powerful for God's too, chronos imprisoned hades but not killing, because chronos doesn't want his curse, lucky he didn't know zagreus has same curse so he is stuck in hades too. Persephone lost her mind for losing of children again and imprisoned everyone enemies and allies, yes she is the pre boss. But zagreus isn't completely dead and he can use chronos power too. But I felt the game ended on an amicable note between the Olympians that I would be disappointed if Zeus was the one to sour the relationship again. However, it's very plausible its a familiar character that is to blame for this. I doubt Chronos could just free himself. The fight against Chronos and explaining the nature of the roguelite is interesting. I like your idea of Zagreus being the one to send you back on your last moments. I just wonder how the story could progress if always at a stalemate.
It is implied that at some point in time she had a mate. Maybe after her transformation gods created another spider in order to further spread this spiecies.
A Wholesome thing that could be added : a "side quest" for returning arachnée to his old form ( or at least a more human form ) . Athena could be busy on Olympus and forgot about Arachné. As the godess of wisdom she would apologize and maybe even learn a trick or two from her
Athena shoould apologize and undo the curse as the Goddess of Wisdom ^ but seeing how petty she was during the first game if you choose over her boon, it seems in character she may still be petty about Arachne. Because undoing the curse would mean Athena was in the wrong, and she probably would not admit that. I'd be interested to see Arachne's human form! but will miss the cute spider.
@@-Commit-arson- She’s a bit crazy because of how isolated she spent her years cursed I feel. If she had a community, I’m positive she’d have been in a bette mental state. And we support Arachne!
Sure, I had an amigo requesting for Moros in the works some time. For Olympian gods, I was thinking of putting them altogether, because I'm hand selecting dialogues where they are contextualizing the story. So, it may be less dialogue than people would be expecting heh. For example, dialogues where Poseidon flexes his power over the sea or how cool his boons are, I'm not including that. I think I'll disappoint some people doing it this way, but I also feel it's a bit redundant otherwise. If that's alright with you, you can expect Hestia and Hephaestus within the same video! Unless you prefer them separate?
Arachne feeling hurt that Melinoë is working with the Gods of Olympus is pretty accurate since the Gods, mostly Athena, turned her into a spider for her boasting but luckily Athena isn’t making an appearance anytime soon due to the war with Chronos.
Oh, I'm so excited to see Athena at her own environment. It'll be awkward bringing up something "insignificant" as Arachne to Athena in a middle of a titan war.
I get what you mean, Arachne goes about looking hideous, but that doesn't really work when she's the cutest crittle in the room. She needed that 8 eyes to be scary, but maybe Supergiants was trying to be considerate for people with arachnophobia.
It's my impression, but looks like Hades 2 had so much characters than the first game, that's amazing. I hope we can see Hades, Thanatos, Persephone too tho
I agree 100%. My take is that Supergiants realized how much they could do after Hades 1 and decided not to hold back. Characters and gameplay got crazier.
(Edit) Slight question regarding my below insinuation: Is Hades and Hades 2 based from Greek Myth or Roman Myth? *Is Relevant --- Wasn't it Arachne's vanity that caused her situation in the myth? That she was so vain that she challenged the gods into a weaving contest which Athena accepted, stating that the judges would be the gods themselves? As a handycap, Athena stated that she would weave stories of the mortals and Arachne would weave stories of the gods themselves, and that Arachne herself had chosen to create a piece depicting all of the lowest of low points (Poseidon's assaults, Zues's infidelity, Hera's blind fury, ect) and that Athena herself admitted that Arachne's weaving was so pure and wonderous that if she hadn't been so vain and chosen to insult the gods that she would have won? That she hung herself from the shame of defeat, only to be saved by Athena and given the chance to do the one thing she loved in her life for the rest of her life?
I’m not sure which it’s based off, but comments below have also pointed out your concern too ^ in that depending on the version, it may have been Arachne’s own doing rather than Athena not handling the humiliation well.
I'm pretty sure hades 1 borrowed from both and lampshaded between the two on a few occasions (Zagreus and Dionysus being the same person or not for example). If I were to guess (idk the answer if there is one) that they'd probably go with the idea that she challenged the gods and did the humiliation piece for the gods, and athena punished her for it? I'm also not finding a greek version of the myth, it looks like the hanging one is Ovid's according to the wiki page.
@@TeleportRush you’re right! They did kinda borrowed Zagreus’s other origin as a gag, it’s likely they’ll take other aspects of Arachne’s story to bring many nuances into conflict. And I’m seeing more Ovid’s too if we’re to look at Athena’s faults here.

I've been looking for a video like this ! These interactions are great. Very nice job !
Thank you! Glad the video came out great.
20:29 “Just like her brother” 😂
It's in the blood!~
Anyone get the feeling that Arachne could become one of the many romance prospects in the game? at least until Chronos is defeated
Would you smooch a spider?
a) Heck yeah
b) Heck yeah
c) Heck yeah
d) Heck yeah
spider gf 👄👄🕷️
most likely another dusa moment... cant romance but will gladly lend her support ( kinda like in hades 1 ? )
@@daeity1 I could see that happen, but I feel like that it wouldn't result the same way it does for Zagreus and Dusa outside of the fact it is a relationship between god/goddess and someone cursed by a god or goddess. Arachne doesn't work for any gods or goddesses and does her own thing (without drawing unwanted attention to herself).
I feel like if they add athena there be a quest to uncurse her, thus making her datable
Cool! I like that the clothing that you choose actually changes Melinoë's appearance!
Yeah I believe Arachne is speaking of Phalanx when she mentions her mate.
I hope in the game we learn a way to turn her back to human or at least we can give Arachne the choice to turn back.
I hate that they made her so adorable lol she’s precious
Ps if you’re curious why I hate it, it’s because I’m too used to the heroes of Olympus version that was straight up just selfish and ‘evil’.
I think she's the cutest too, and yup ^ she's very humanized in this interpretation.
@@Hamstir4she’s also seemingly incredibly tiny since she usually appears the size of a Rhino
Shelby Young growing to become one of my favourite VA's (she's also done some other roles in Persona 3 Reload and Slave Zero X)
This cast is stacked considering it may be the last Hades game. Supergiant holding nothing back!
For example; Medusa, Arachne, Io, etc)
All the myths he used already existed, but he re-wrote them to be more unfair- which is why, in the most common version of the myth, Athena spontaneously displays the shockingly out-of-character trait of ENVY, rather than destroying Arachne's work due to her lack of respect (in the original myths Arachne claimed herself to be a better weaver than Athena herself and that she would win a weaving competition against her, a classic Greek Hubris Tragedy where the hero thinks too highly of themselves and is reminded, painfully, that they are NOT gods, but Ovid's version doesn't make sense for the rest of the pantheon's canon).
I honestly hope the developers go with the original version of the myth, as I'm not a huge fan of Ovid works 😅
To the point of wanting to just mess up with the mortals' beliefs a little
So maybe the gods are more flawed or even more evil leaning towards mortals, like Moros admits he and the Fates every now and then mess with mortals to spice up the prophecies even though he regrets it.
@@VI_VA. Arachne on nsfw had me howling LOL.
And right ^ if we put modern interpretations into these myths, for instance for Medusa’s story. It may have used to be, “Don’t sleep in front of Athena’s shrine since it’s disrespectful”. But now, with a modern lens, it’s a story about women were dammed either way. How could Medusa turn down a powerful god like Poseidon, this didn’t have a choice. And in the end, she’s punished either way from Athena or from Poseidon if she rejected him.
I received some information about Melinoe’s origin, partly about being the daughter of Zeus and Persephone? I’ll have to refer back to my amigo Tuan somewhere lmao.
@@Hamstir4 I still dislike Ovid's myths, I heavily prefer they stick to purely Greek interpretations.
Arachne got that dark souls npc laugh
She has it down.
I'm trying to avoid as many spoilers as I can, but I honestly didn't expect A each me to be as adorable as she is!😊 Truthfully, I'm half-expecting someone to make a cuddly plush of this version of her. She and Dusa both are cute enough to warrant it.
I pray for your limited spoilers, they're everywhere. I'm not helping with this video either haha. I would so buy an Arachne plush, she's the cutest!
She is so, so precious 🥺
You’re saying there’s an imposter among the House?! This is a sick theory. I trust Hecate but she is withholding lots of information from us and Mel.
@@Hamstir4 I remember there was implied in some runs, I don't remember which one, on tvtropes saying it is Sisyphus, but I think it is too banal, but demeter noticed hecate hide Mel to everyone like she didn't trust them
@@Sifya I will forever be in denial that it’s Sisyphus, only cause he was the first I fully friendshipped with. But you could be onto something of it being a special guest within the House. ^
There’s a dialogue I’ll post one day, Hecate says that she didn’t alert Demeter because she would’ve immediately have gone to war, which is the same concern she had with Nemesis’s impulse.
Which begs the question, how much does Hecate know to the point she knew the Olympians weren’t enough to brute force their way to victory.
@@Hamstir4 I will be in denial too about Sisyphus, it is too banal. But people who hates gods a lot. My idea, zagreus has become a powerful god, god of life and blood and met gea. Fates for punishing Zeus and hades house make a prophesy about zagreus become ruler.
Melinoe can defend chrono because zagreus who never him let kill her, everytime you failed, zagreus would turn back the time, because his love for mel can across time and space
@@Sifya You mean Persephone being the pre-boss similar to Cerberus? That's crazy cool. She was stated to be well capable of defending herself, so I would be hyped to see her capabilities.
Zeus being afraid does seem to be in character and he was found out to be behind the dilemma in Hades 1.
SMASH, next question-
This is crazy.
It's not even fully out and we already have a lovable character
When I first encountered Arachne, I stopped to think, "Supergiant does it again".
@@Hamstir4 deadass
Okay, so I'm still confused. How did Arachne actually have offspring when she was the first spider in existence?
This could get so cursed real fast.
It is implied that at some point in time she had a mate. Maybe after her transformation gods created another spider in order to further spread this spiecies.
@@2ley695 We love you Arachne, spiders are great.
I like her we’re in the same boat holding a grudge
I hope you have love as much as you hold your grudges Chary!
Man she is definitely crazy
But I like her (:
@@-Commit-arson- She’s a bit crazy because of how isolated she spent her years cursed I feel. If she had a community, I’m positive she’d have been in a bette mental state.
And we support Arachne!
If you're doing requests for which interactions happen next, maybe Hephaestus or Hestia?
@@Hamstir4 Nah, that's fine. Keep the important stuff that others can see, save the interesting smaller bits for actually buying the game.
@@CamelofDestiny My thoughts exactly! You get me.
I came here to hear her songs that she stops *once* you interact with her... And I was painfully disappointed.
ya she does. I waited before on my technical run, I believe Run 2? But she loops after a quick verse. I hope she had more songs later down the line!
Arachne’s an adorable, cute little spider girl
She absolutely is, she must be saved.
Arachne is precious but damn does her laugh feel so force and heartbreaking. Extremely passive aggressive, but I get it; them gods suck.
Passive aggressive describes her best ^ Her laugh makes us want to help her so much..

I would have liked a more spiderlike face, personally, but this is still very cute. Great writing nonetheless.
I get what you mean, Arachne goes about looking hideous, but that doesn't really work when she's the cutest crittle in the room. She needed that 8 eyes to be scary, but maybe Supergiants was trying to be considerate for people with arachnophobia.
Her laugh...xD
The poor weaver...
Best spider in the universe
She's great and I expect a happy ending for her!
So are you team Melinoe / Dora or Melinoe / Arachne.
I know where my money is, ahuhuhuhu~
My heart goes to Arachne. Ahuhuhu (Think I’m doing it right)
She's so cute! 😍
It’s true, I fell for her immediately
(Edit) Slight question regarding my below insinuation: Is Hades and Hades 2 based from Greek Myth or Roman Myth? *Is Relevant
---
Wasn't it Arachne's vanity that caused her situation in the myth?
Greek mostly, but Arachne is from roman myth, written about by Virgil and Ovid.
she is rarity idgaf
I can see that, tho maybe Arachne and Rarity could have some competition or something? Heheh
