Finally an "I remade this in Unreal Engine" video that focusses on the art direction, and doesnt just recreate the map with megascans. Looking awesome!
@@Evagoesbrrr Well yea of course, there's not really any alternative to megascans for very realistic graphics in single dev projects, is there? Using those in of itself is not the problem. It's just very easy to cheaply throw some of those together and call it 'realistic game art' while completely forgetting about the 'art' part. I just appreciate the focus on the art direction here :)
@@Daniel-ib5nt Totally agree, I wanna say about 90% of AAA studios use Megascan assets, we used them a lot when I worked at Xbox. Where the issue lies in how people use them, customize them, and support them with custom made assets to achieve the art direction of the given game. A lot of the assets in the video were made by in entirety by me, and all downloaded content were modified, retextured, or remodeled in some way to fit the art direction!

The idea of this video is to LITERALLY copy Elden Ring, but in UE5. So playing "this as a soulslike" is basically saying you would play Elden Ring lol.
THis is really good work. It also makes me realize what is so insane about Elden Rings art style. EVERYTHING has a story. Gravestones, flowers, the weird form of rocks, the details of the arcitecture. All the work to make everything be connected is what gives it soul and not just makes it pretty and cool and moody.
First I thought, "How does this dude only have less than 3K subs?" Then I realized this video is the channel's premier. Woah. First ever video and it's already this good. Go big, man!
FromSoftware excels at breaking conventional approaches to art design. One aspect I particularly appreciate is how every location feels rich in culture. For instance, their use of tapestry stands out, something rarely seen in fictional European settings, where it's often stereotypically reserved for "Arabian/Middle Eastern" themes. As a result, many other fictional worlds end up with decorations that feel flat and generic, a shortcoming that extends to clothing and armor design as well. It's clear that some creators lack exposure to the traditional attire, decoration, and architecture of Slavic culture or many other European cultures. In contrast, the world of Elden Ring feels deeply authentic and thoughtfully crafted in its art design.
Theres a reddit section on Elden Ring based on lore like the two RUclipsrs do. Much of the culture is a mix of different cultures and fantasy. They really do their research and art directing well.
One of the best parts of Elden ring is the immersion and constant sense of mystery in the game. I think you nailed it in this! and just love what you did!

nah this is insane. loved how you showed the process in such an entertaining way. the music choices, tone, comedy, and easy to follow explanation helped with such a good pay off in the end. looking forward to seeing what else you cook up!!
I think an underrated aspect is how Elden Ring handles the camera. The way it'll present things to the player as they travel with odd angles so it reads almost like they're being chased. They also took the time to frame the more painterly shots in unique ways as you traversed. The other aspect that most Souls games do but knockoffs tend to neglect is how each area tells a story of its own. So having an idea of the purpose of the place and what the inhabitants there were trying to accomplish/what happened may help build more of that atmosphere.
Awesome video! I really enjoy how the Souls community is really keen on analyzing the games, and then sharing the findings. I'm working on a Souls-Like within Unreal Engine 5, and seeing your process on making the Block-outs to match the Eldein Ring style gave me good ideas on how to tackle on my own. I'm finishing the core foundational mechanics, but in the next couple months, I'll start to delve more on Environment Art side of it! Thank you, so much for doing the video!
Great work ! I think the reality with something like Elden Ring is that, like any painting when you zoom in close its just a collection of smears but when taken as a whole they convey lots of emotion. Real life is cluttered with detail, paintings are clean in that way, and when all the lines point in the same direction metaphorically speaking the painting can convey just as much or more emotion than a photograph. I believe you touched on this in your analysis of why Elden Ring is a great work of art.
I feel like you kinda hit the nail on the head at the end there. I feel like capturing the essence of Elden Ring with an engine that really boosts the minute details is kinda going in the wrong direction. I think what makes Elden Ring so great in terms of look is that it really draws your attention up from the ground. Whether it be the countless vistas you kinda have to hold your breath at or the immense detail in said vistas that show you almost everything the area has to offer right at the start, to just the pure sense of scale that the game offers. Your constantly looking at the larger world around you when you’re roaming around, so much so that the smaller textures in the open world don’t really need that immense detail bc the game is pulling your attention to something wayyyyy better looking. All that being said though, this was a cool take on the games art direction and it was cool to see just how close the colors got to the original cerulean coast lol. Also the use of the Elphael soundtrack was absolutely chef’s kiss 👌

You are... Incredible for this. Like another comment said, you directed your remake focus to catching the art, the structure, this is beautiful. AND I DID NOT EXPECT TPPO to be your shoutout. Man i need to lock in with my creativity.
This was really cool and fascinating. I was trying to take a look to see why it feels slightly off from the Elden Ring look. I think it is the lighting. This will sound weird and dumb; the dark, shady, shadowy parts look right in each of your shots but I noticed while staring at Liurnia and the Cerulean Coast along side your video that From makes the parts not in shadow brighter than they should be. The ambient lighting is right, the shadows are right, but the light reflecting off the surfaces of objects needs to be a bit more intense. If 14:40 was a shot from Elden ring the walls on the left side that are lit would be bright enough that we would be more able to pick out more details on that wall from the vantage point of that shot. I could be wrong sorry for the ramble but definitely hitting the subscribe button.
You did a great job! In some areas, you nailed the design. i think what’s missing is more particles. Also, if you add more saturation to the sky and sharpen the clouds, it will look even better!

Great job overall. You matched the vibe of elden ring more than anyone I seen so far. That shot at 13:44 was practically straight out of the game. I hope fromsoft end up using U5 in the future. Their upcoming games would benefit so much! Great video!
LMAO what a nonsense, art direction should go hand in hand with graphics, From is just lazy and incompetent and refuse to up their graphic game and are stuck in the PS3 era
Great advice, too bad this won't make From any less lazy and incompetent, in fact people like you are ensuring that they will keep releasing the same copy-pasted PS3 level games
"Take"? That's not a "take", zoomer, it's a fact, From has been milking their shitty souls formula for over a decade with tiny improvements (and often going backwards in certain aspects) and that's because of pathetic losers like you xD But then again, what can you expect from a profile named like that... brainrot for the win
I think the most impressive part about this, and the most important part as well, is that you modified and blended in the premade assets so well that you cant rlly tell what parts are megascans and what parts are custom built. that level of blending and focus on art direction is really the big thing a lot of indie devs are missing, and is something ill definitely be focusing on in my own future projects! 10/10 video, definitely earned a sub for this one :D

@@wallacesousuke1433They do actually, if they have the time I don't think they wouldn't do this at all, their games are all rushed in some ways already so it's not surprising they cannot be too picky with the graphics.
They clearly DONT, otherwise they wouldnt be using the same terrible game engine hardlocked at 60 (previously, 30) fps, godawful camera, tons of pop-ins, bad hitboxes, controls, tons of reused assets, muddy textures, forced vignette and chromatic aberration, lack of tons of QoL additions, terrible netcoding..
heck, you can go to Nexusmod and get mods that fix these things in a few clicks! You heard it, some dude on their spare times can do a better job than From's entire staff can, and for free!
And I'm not talking about ultra-realistic graphics either, but something on par with base PS4 games would've been great, you know...

Incredible work. The focus on art made a difference and the rockforms really helped you. Amazing.
You are... Incredible for this. Like another comment said, you directed your remake focus to catching the art, the structure, this is beautiful.
AND I DID NOT EXPECT TPPO to be your shoutout. Man i need to lock in with my creativity.
LOL thats exactly how I felt watching Tppo, super happy to hear you enjoyed
This was a great watch, loved the way you approached this project!
12:04 Is that elden ring, or just a fan made one? I cant tell
only complaint i have is that this isnt a three hour long video i can binge watch in awe at 3 am while i fall asleep
Your work is amazing! I envy your ability to create environments so effortlessly, congratulations ! I'm working on a personal project that I'd love to share with Square Enix, and I’m using WorldMachine, though it's still quite challenging. What kind of content are you planning for your channel ? Will there be tutorials ? Watching this video gave me a real boost for my project, haha, thanks man ! :)
Man I love hearing about people's personal projects, glad I could give a little inspiration, that sounds so dope!! Currently working on game/video inspired by the art of Arcane, gonna be much like this one, but also planning to do other videos about my experiences in the game industry and art tutorials (though I learned everything from YT so I'd prob be less informative lol).
the soundtrack and world ambiance also adds so much to the feeling of elden ring
1:44 I mean ,they're very basic textures, but they don't look bad lol.
No but definitely improvable.
Really great, did not expect this from such a small channel. Hoping the algorithm blesses you, keep up the great work
Are you kidding, the production quality of this video is insane. 300 views????? 20 subs???? I've subbed, awesome work
TYY man, I seriously appreciate the support. Makes me all the more excited to get the next video out- hopefully soon!!
Dude the editing in this video is one of the best I’ve ever seen. The remake came out looking really good too. Deserves a sub for sure :)
Obviously BLOODBORNE remaster!
Amazing work!
This is the first of your videos I'm seeing and I'm blown away by the quality of your content.
I love the way you show and exlain your research, it helps aspiring game developers like me to grasp the importance of some key concepts which could easlisy be overlooked.
You just earned yourself a new subscriber 😊
Great job overall. You matched the vibe of elden ring more than anyone I seen so far. That shot at 13:44 was practically straight out of the game. I hope fromsoft end up using U5 in the future. Their upcoming games would benefit so much! Great video!
Ehh I don't think ue5 is really necessary for souls like games since it's pretty unoptimized and would require a lot more powerful pc
It's amazing! The look, the style, and this sky... I love it
Also I'd like to see your bloodborne remake;)
My issue with these is that they all seem to forget that part of the aesthetic greatness of these games is art direction over graphics
LMAO what a nonsense, art direction should go hand in hand with graphics, From is just lazy and incompetent and refuse to up their graphic game and are stuck in the PS3 era
@ then don’t play the games
Great advice, too bad this won't make From any less lazy and incompetent, in fact people like you are ensuring that they will keep releasing the same copy-pasted PS3 level games
@ genuinely deranged take. Have a nice day though
"Take"? That's not a "take", zoomer, it's a fact, From has been milking their shitty souls formula for over a decade with tiny improvements (and often going backwards in certain aspects) and that's because of pathetic losers like you xD
But then again, what can you expect from a profile named like that... brainrot for the win
To me Elden Ring’s sky always felt “close” I’m not sure how else to describe it. Good Job tho it is beautiful.
This is so weird, I only ever heard my grandma describe skies like these as "close." I always thought it was such a creative and eerie word to use. Where did you get it from?
@@imnotthatmatt6524When I would play Elden Ring and I would look up into the sky, it felt like my character could touch it, like if I climbed to a high enough spot I could feel the beautiful skies.🤷🏻♂️
Dude, this turned out great! Not only was your final product amazing, but the video as a whole was super enjoyable to watch. Keep it up!!
Miyazaki decided to copy you and make an actualy Elden Ring remake
Can't believe this is your first video! Absolutely amazing job on rebuilding Elden Ring but also on the video itself. Just a minor detail but I do love me some well timed memes and Persona music. Can't wait for your Arcane and Bloodborne projects! Keep it up \[T]/
Art style> Graphic. This is prime example
After the arcane mention I went to go see if that video happened just to see that this is your only fucking video, coming from the YT home page this video is such a fucking treat, incredible work and I hope to see more in the future honestly
This turned out way better then I expected it too. Well done man, that's actually insanely good!
I actually can’t believe this is your first video, incredible work dude !! Can’t wait for more !
Dude you absolutely nailed it! I hope you keep making content, I'll be keeping an eye out for your videos in my subscriptions!
Excellent video! It explored an idea that's imposing on game lovers more and more as the industry grows. It was informative and inspirational to see the hours of work you put in then create a product of quality nearing that of a full team of AAA developers.
Honestly, I hope you keep at it and look forward to seeing what you do in game development in the future.
wow, you did an amazing job! it was so spot on, that when you spawned in and started walking down the steps I immediately felt that sense of dread that only souls games provide, knowing something that can kill you is probably right around the corner
you really captured how Elden Ring feels like you're in a world built over an older world created by giants
Dude this is incredible work, you did capture the feel of Elden Ring while also giving it your own twist. I think you nailed it!
Dude, this is incredible! When you when down to walk around it was dripping with story! When you got to the bottom of the stairs and there was a statue* I wanted to know more. Excellent work
This work is fire bro! Looking forward to see more of it!
I think you did an utterly fantastic job. Well done dude!
Absolutely amazing work dude :) Cant wait to see your channel hit 1,000,000 subs someday soon! Super excited to see more videos from you!
Glad you mentioned Bloodborne at the end. Your showcase at 10:42 evoked Bloodborne to me more than Elden Ring. Incredible work.
Absolutely incredible work! There were a few points of view that really seemed like it could be part of Elden Ring! Looking forward to seeing what else you come up with!
daaamn ur on such a good way with it , ur a legend, it gives me kind of a elden ring feeling :o
That looks really good. Really nice what you did with Unreal Engine and how you did it. Respect!
Amazing work! you did a real good job matching that art style.
Absolutely astonishing work mate, love how you organized everything. I think you achieved 70 percent of the Elden Ring mood, the rest 30 percent is Miyazaki`s secret recipe
You absolutely nailed the look of elden ring. In some parts of the video it felt like you could pause and play it off as an ingame screenshot. Really good stuff!
Great video. I really liked the commentary on art direction.
Phenomenal how you improved and took us along this journey ! The final product was exceptional !
This looks Insane! You've actually captured the FromSoft vibe like holy hell...this is really good... You NEED to make a crash course of this stuff cuz I would love to learn how to do this by myself. Cheers!
Yo! THIS IS AWESOME! I can only imagine the effort and time spent on this! F-ing GREAT WORK!
2:46 omg I love you, I've been looking for the word "ethereal" for ages now holy shit
This video is so amazing, watching other's making something they enjoy is so fun and the video was so fun I wished it will never end, I really love the work you've done is so cool and it really make me think one guy could do so much if he really put his mind into it, really good work and thank you for this masterpiece
Looks great! stoked on the results
Man, this is so damn good, brother. I really like the effect around the flames - at first I thought it was a bit much, but it actually brings to life a sense of cold there. Absolutely love it. They need to give you a job.
First peak of the final product and I felt the same wonder I did first booting up elden ring, the feeling of excitement, having 10 different directions you want to go at the same time. Amazing work.
this is super cool man and stuff like this hopefully reminds people how much effort goes into huge games like this
UNDERRATED! That area That u did has absolutely blew my mind. U said that u didn't feel the elden ring find, but I SURE DID! I am so impressed, well done
Dude, this deserves so many more views. Exceptional work and quality.
I'm genuinely amazed that this is your actual first video, I expected to see digits in the 10s when looking at the subscriber count. The presentation, commentary, and especially the work displayed in the recording is absolutely top notch. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
Banger first vid!
Absolutely nailed it, crazy how good this came out
Absolutely staggering! Congrats man.
