Orthognathic surgery is a pretty intense surgery and I just want to help others out there that will be going through it! Thankfully it's not a painful recovery.. just a very tedious, uncomfortable recovery. Just be patient! It'll be worth it..100%.

      I had my lower jaw surgery 4 months ago. Today on my post-op appointment I found out that a plate needs to be removed. Any food and chewing would aggravate the swollen on the same side. Does anyone have any recommendations for me. What should I expect when a plate gets removed. Thanks.

    I've been watching a lot of videos about this procedure as mine is in less than 2 weeks. Nobody else's has been as in depth and informative. I'm super grateful for your videos around this it's helping my mental get prepared for something I have no idea how to prepare for :)

      I'm exactly 2 weeks post op now and recovery has been going well! I'm eating soft foods now but eating is more like re-learning how to use my jaw and is more hard work than pleasure tbh.
      First 5 days are exactly like he's said, you hardly remember it and there was no pain as long as you're taking your meds on time. Set alarms for your meds because it's hard to keep track.
      First night in the hospital was rough but you sleep through most of it. If you can have someone stay with you the first 5-7 days you're back home that would be ideal bc I was pretty weak and lethargic.
      It's really hard but keep your vitamins and nutrients up as it makes a huge difference in your recovery progress!!
      I hope it went well for you, be patient, you got this 🫶🏽

      @@ReeseStark thank you so much I had mine on Friday and or three days ago and oh my god it was the most painfullest thing either I had to a capiter as well cause I couldn’t pee and that was more painful then the surgery it still is I had left the hospital the second day but ended up coming for a Flores capater and I still have that at the time I’m speaking your right doing vitamins and your medicine taking that is important but that’s also for sure hard to do

    Weird how the surgery recovery differs. I had my surgery 9 days ago, they moved my upper jaw 1cm to the front, and after 4 days I got permission to work out. For the calories I eat scrambled eggs, tiramisu, chocolate mousse etc. as for the swelling, that went away really quickly, there’s probably like 10% swelling left, so I’m really positive. Then again, I only had upper jaw surgery

    Day 2 of recovery from the same surgery (bilateral split osteotomy and le fort 1 3 piece) and Jair thanks so much for these videos, they really help to pull me through this. Personally experienced practically no pain but am pretty uncomfortable (with the elastics keeping your jaw shut, it feels like I’m constantly clenching my jaw!), and a bit overwhelmed trying to deal with the 7 different meds I was prescribed and taking them at the right time!

    Hi Dr. Stringer did 3 surgeries on me in the 90's. He diagnosed my tmj. He did arthoplasty, eminently, and another over 4 years. I am a Veteran. I started getting work done on my teeth at the va in loma linda, and long story, but I just had the surgery it will be 3 years at San Francisco VA. MY MOUTH WAS CLIPPEDand I had a metal piece screwed in the front or my upper teeth. I was released in 4 days. All I could consume was ensure and broth. I lost 13 lbs. I still have some numbness on my left side of face, and it affected the nerve in my left eye. Other than that it is like you explained. Wow, nice to see a patient of Dr stringers. Still im taking medication cos im feeling pain in some places. 50% of the swelling has gone down, hoping it will be 80% by next week. For me its a painful process, i don't know why exactly. Like he said, everyone is different. I have to relearn how to eat and drink. I don't know what to say about my smile cos still its not healed completely. The videos i have watched before the surgery and the ones after i had my surgery are helping me alot. Good luck to all who want to have this surgery. Xoxo

    Wow $30K for both jaws? that's a lot. I live in the city of Brest, France, and i'm going to have my double jaws surgery and my chin bone will be moved forward a little bit, (January 8, 2020 it's the big day for me). The cost? €2600 ($2892), the french social security system will pay €940 ($1,046) and the rest of the bill will be on my health insurance and myself around €1660 ($1846) i'd probably gonna pay half of that €830 ($924). So in this part of France i can say is 'cheap' for this kind of surgery, i can't say for Paris, probably gonna cost a lot more. Anyway thanks for the video and for those tips, so long.

    You get 6 weeks of school? Wow I’m so jealous. I had my surgery 12 days ago, am the first week was rough. I looked like a swollen pumpkin. Now it looks better although the swelling is now going down more slowly. I had double jaw surgery as well as genioplasty( when they put a metal plate in your chin). But right now what I hate the most is that my upper lip is swollen and stiff? And most of my face is still kinda numb... any tips for excercising lips? I heard that drinking with a straw helps....

    Just had my 3 piece Lefort 1 and BSSO with Dr. Stringer 6 days ago! How long did it take you to start feeling somewhat normal again? Dr. Stringer gave me the ok yesterday to start a no chew diet and it’s still hard to get anything down that’s now liquid. Everyone says the results are worth it but it’s so hard to see past how you feel right after surgery!

    • @jairwoo
      @jairwoo  6 лет назад +1

      brittany blake hi brittany! he also gave me the ok to start the no chew diet on day 6 but i remember i couldn’t even do it.. so don’t feel too bad. i remember trying to eat scrambled eggs and i almost cried because I couldn’t even move my jaws really. you’ll know when you’re ready! i believe i started eating mashed potatoes on day 9 or 10? but, trust me.. i felt the same way.. it felt like an eternity when i thought about the end results. My advice is to take it day by day! Soon enough you’ll start seeing results & you’ll start feeling much better. Have faith & trust the process. Dr.Stringer is one of the best & he knows what he’s doing. Keep me updated on your progress!! Also, do you have a splint right now?

    • @brittanydaniella
      @brittanydaniella 6 лет назад +1

      Yes! I didn’t ask him yesterday but I think I asked on of the Drs in the hospital and they said I’d have it in for 2-3 weeks. I think the split it partly what makes it so hard to eat anything. Luckily swelling feels like it’s slowly starting to go down a bit. I just feel nervous right now because I have my wedding coming up April, 14th. Dr. Stringer assured me I will be 98% recovered by then so just hoping that’s the case!

    I've been recommended this procedure to fix an underbite. I'm 24 years old and trying to decide if it's worth it or not. I am a very active, fit person - I run marathons, I do triathlons and I lift 5-6 days a week and have been doing so for the past 5 years plus. I'm also single and the idea of being swolen for months, losing a bunch of weight and fitness and having braces on my teeth for like a year really sounds terrifying - like fuck me it's gonna be a dry year :c . So what I really want to know is how long before you can train properly? I understand that food is an issue but if you are meticulous and creative about getting all the nutrients you need how long after surgery before you can lift and run and swim and all that good stuff? Are you allowed to take the elastics off when you exercise?

    I'm a little over a month post op for double jaw surgery. The recovery is definitely difficult and it's all about being patient. I do have two questions for you; how far can you open your mouth at this point ? Second, I have been watching many videos based on this procedure and to me it looks like everyone is able to talk normally by the third week. However, with me I'm having difficulty pronouncing words. I can definitely notice that I have a lisp.. did something similar happen to you or your speech has been good the whole time? It's pretty frustrating so I want to know if it just depends on the person and whether I should just be patient and let it naturally come back or if it is the way my bite was arranged that is affecting the way I pronounce my words. btw your results are great !
