Jaw Surgery One Month Later.... Can it change your nose?

  • I've gotten some comments about my nose since the surgery. Some people are wondering if they did anything to it too. I will say I think it does look a bit different but I think it might just be swelling. It's sort of early to tell, but it is possible that jaw surgery can slightly alter your nose by making it wider, and sometimes pushing it up a bit. We'll just have to see in a few months when the swelling is down what it's like!

I don't think your nose changed that much. It's that the focus of your face changed. Before your jawline protruded out more. Now your nose is the more prominent feature on your face. You look great regardless.

Well technically didn’t they move her top jaw forward. That’s the center of your face. It’s gonna move everything connected to it the same distance. I think she’ll be fine once the swelling goes down and it doesn’t look or feel odd.

I feel like especially with those "before and after" photos you can see how swollen you still are. Your upper lip is still really swollen which is probably why your nose looks upturned like that. I bet it'll look at least a lot more like it used to once the swelling goes away completely. It doesn't look like (to me at least) that's just what your nose looks like now, I really think it's a result of the swelling.

The nose always changes in maxillary advances because you move the base of the nose forward, so it tends to point a little more upwards. This look is often desired by most patients though. About it becoming wider, its due to the incision that is made in that region so the tissue tends to heal in a little different position, your surgeon surely did some inner suturing to prevent it but it often changes a little. You do look very good though, dont sweat on it. Keep it up.

    • @engineerepixlele2845
      @engineerepixlele2845 2 года назад

I don't think anyone likes the changes of a maxillary advancement. If it's a tiny maxillary advancement, maybe, but probably not. They always make your nose wider and "piggy" especially for severe underbite cases. I have yet to see a single person say they truly liked their alars getting wider.

  • @kevinfleming9919
    @kevinfleming9919 3 года назад +61

    THIS TOO SHALL PASS!
The issue you are having with your nose is NOT going to be a problem. It's not the tip/end of your nose turning up, it's the bottom part of your nostrils connected to your lip that's pulling down. The swelling is pulling it down and out a bit. If you look closely at the side by side pics you can see from your eyes down to the tip is the same (albeit swollen a bit on the sides of your nose which is going away), but from the tip down is where the extra angle is at and pulling your nostrils down. It is much less on your right side where you also have gotten more movement in your upper lip than the left side for now. Even the right side of your upper lip is coming back more, looking fuller like the way it was before the surgery, and has more movement because the swelling is not pushing the edge of your lip forward and out. If I'm not mistaken, the left side of your mouth is where you also had the skin growing over the screws which would account for that side still being a little further behind in the healing and getting back to normal. Give it time and your nose will be back to it's proper shape and placement. BTW, when you were smiling with the cake you looked very pretty and had a nice smile going! Remember that it's hard for you to see the big improvement you have made because you seeing little by little, where as we see it as bigger gains in each Vlog because of the time that has passed between them!

I will say that my nose did change post op similarly to what you’re describing. I did feel like my nose turned up more and my nostrils were more prominent. It did go down with swelling but my nose is different than before surgery. I’ve thought about getting it corrected but haven’t. Overall, I don’t regret the surgery. I don’t have an underbite anymore. I can eat food so much better now. I do wish my doctor told me about how my nose could change. Also, my one piece of advice is please please please wear your retainer! My teeth have shifted because I didn’t wear mine enough and that’s my biggest regret. You got this!

Eating less processed foods and cooking your own food could help your swelling go down because a lot of foods we get eating at restaurants or pre-made are really high in salt! Eating a lot of salty foods can make your face swell up or stay swollen. I know it’s super hard to eat rn but your diet can really help your recovery! I had a minor jaw surgery to help with my tmj and my face was pretty swollen for a while..which isn’t the most fun but I tried not to dwell on it too much. My surgeon told me even though I’m not in the most active mood it’s really good to walk around and eat the best I can to help my recovery and it definitely helps mentally and physically!! Eating as well as you can and doing whatever kind of exercise like waking really helps improve ur mood!Just try and trust the process it can be hard but you got this girl :)

No idea if you will see this, but Lauryn from The Skinny Confidential had this surgery a few years ago and she had awful swelling and she documented her battle against it. She swears that lymphatic massages have helped her swelling. Worth a shot! Don't panic about your nose, it's definitely the swelling affecting the shape. You had major surgery on your face, and swelling from something like that can take up to a year to totally go away. When I had my nose done, it took a year to settle into its eventual shape.

Thanks to my doctor I had a weird nose shape post op, but I didn’t struggle having a wide nose after healing.
The nose gets wide because they pull the skin around the upper jaw etc. during surgery.

I still have the holes but there slowly filling in after 2 months almost

Hi Shelby, you look so much better as a few weeks ago. You’re nearly your old self again. You’re actually already beautyful and it will only get better in a few weeks.

Here are some tips to reduce inflammation:
Stay hydrated, lots of fluids and electrolytes.
Lots of fresh fruits, veg, and greens.
Stay away from coffee or alcohol as much as you can.
    Deep breathing exercises(increases blood flow)
Move your body everyday. In your case, also move your face everyday. Daily facial exercises would be very helpful.
Ice your face daily. Take cold showers, or at least room temp. Try not to take steaming hot showers.
Dry brushing (stimulates the lymphatic system).
    Daily massages to increase circulation.
And being as stress free as possible, do your best to stay positive, joyful, and grateful.
    Hope this helps 🙏✨

Helpful tip: there's arnica creams that don't contain ingredients that make your eyes water. It's by the brand T Relief - there's other natural ingredients in there too to help with swelling and healing, but arnica is the first ingredient.
I've used it a bunch of times before and it definitely works for me.

Shelby focus on everything else but your face. It is really hard, but stressing about the possibility that you will be swollen forever won't help you. You are looking beautiful ❤️

I think it’s a combination of swelling and a change in your face shape because your jaw protruded outward and it looked more elongated. You look fantastic! And I’m so happy to see how open and honest you are through this whole process.

I know this might not be helpful but I really do see a difference watching these vlogs! it’s definitely taking time and everything you say is totally valid. I just have a feeling that your swelling is going to continue getting better!

It seems like you are getting better little by little! I just think that stress absolutely hinders physical healing and you seemingly stress a lot about how you look/might look. You should try your best to let go and change your mindset during this small window of time where you have less control over your physicality.... In the grand scheme of things, a few months is such a short amount of time to be displaced from what you're used to. You do seem a bit happier but obessing over what you look like vs what you might look like won't change anything, except slow the healing process. Mental health+physical health💚💛🧡

Don’t worry too much about the numbness it should gradually come back over the next 11 months. The closest thing I can compare it to is when someone gets a nose job they typically get feeling back very slowly. Some people I know who’ve had one even made it known that the tip of their nose was the last part to get feeling back and took around a year. Your body is healing and this was a much more complex surgery than a nose job. Your nerves are going to need time to recuperate from it. Just know that every little bit of feeling that comes back in the peripheral areas is a sign that you are getting there. That you’re body is healing itself and doing it at a pace that’s right for it.

I wouldn’t judge anything until you get a solid few months in of recovery, they did a lot. This stuff doesn’t subside over night or in a matter of weeks. I’m no expert but I’d imagine it will be months before swelling goes down substantially.

That's kind of surprising that no one mentioned anything about the possible effect on your nose! It's really not that noticeable but I'm sure to you it's unfamiliar and weird. Hopefully as you continue to heal it'll return to it's pre surgery state.

Honestly, I think you are 100% improved. The swelling will take months to resolve and it will be very slow. Your face looks great and your speech is back to normal. Your nose looks fine but definitely could still be a little swollen. It is really not noticeable.

Hey, you can try putting the jade roller in the fridge or freezer before using it to help with the swelling. You did not say if it was cold or not so Id thought Id say something xD Id also bring up the nose differences you are noticing with your surgeon, just to let them know you have some concerns. They might give you some information that could help you feel better about yourself! All in good time your body will heal! Keep your head up!

Your nose is likely more prominent because your jaw is no longer protruding forward, with a tiny bit of swelling.

Your nose already looks much less swollen and more like it was before surgery at the end of the video! It can take SO long for swelling to go down so I wouldn't worry too much about it for now. You're seeing yourself in the mirror everyday so it's hard to see any small changes. 💛 I definitely see a change in your jaw movement, speech and nose. 💛
