- I'm officially one month post op! Once I got the screws taken out I noticed the swelling in that area finally go down and am able to move my mouth a bit more. Feeling encouraged & more energized now!

The face is getting back to normal once again little by little and your normal voice is coming back. Great job!
Wow! You see yourself everyday so you might not notice the difference but you look so much less swollen. One side is even a bit less swollen. Hang in there! You are going strong and you will be looking great. Don’t worry!

Pro-tip for when you get your invisalign. Every 2-3 weeks you will switch to a new aligner set. Switch to your new set at night and take an ibuprofen before you go to sleep. It allows you to sleep through most of the pain as your mouth gets used to the new set.
damn i wish i had this kind of common sense when i had invisalign, i was kinda dumb in middle school 😂😂😂
i’m 12 days post op my surgery, i was freaking out and had so much anxiety and depression the first week but i’m doing better and i’m so *happy* to see you are too! it’s draining but we are making it :’)

Cleaning service will change your life. My husband and I used to argue who should do what and now we have someone come in twice month for deep cleaning. Big difference in our marriage.
As soon as you started talking after the screws were removed, your voice and enunciation immediately sounded more like you!! So glad you're recovering!

Don’t feel discouraged. Your face will get back to “normal.” As someone who had the surgery (10+ years ago), it will take about a year max to take its shape.
Hot pads are your friend. Use warm hot clothes to help with the congestion. Your nose will bleed. You’re having a similar recovery to me.

Even though the swelling hasn’t completely gone away, I feel like you still look like your old self! I know someone who got the same surgery in 2014 but she had her month wired shut for a few months after and braces, her face definitely changed in the way it looks.

You seem much more upbeat and confident since the last Vlog! Speech is clearer and more pronounced (besides when you had the numbing shot of course!) and the swelling is going down nicely, although too slowly for you I'm sure! Nice to see laughter, smiles, and fun becoming a part of your life again!

Wow, the difference on the last day of the vlog was huge to me! Can really see the recovery happening fast now. So happy you're getting back into things again, and still achieving a lot, getting shit done!
Honestly, your smile looks a lot better, I have followed since before op, so seeing the first smile you made after surgery where your muscles were just barley holding it to now is a big change. All in all just continue and you willget there eventually. Does not matter how long it takes, be greatfull for all the small changes each day, your body is working hard for you to heal.

Shelby, I think your recovery is going to speed up now that those four screws have been taken out. Just being able to move your mouth more freely will make a big difference in the healing process. You also look great so don't worry about that.

Hi Shelby, I hope you aren't feeling too discouraged. I had double jaw surgery 5 years ago and just want you to know that things will get better! My swelling didn't go down completely until about 6 months after surgery but at that point, I was the only one who noticed the swelling anyway. Thanks for being open about this whole process. not just lookin' good - YOU LOOK SIMPLY MAHVELOUS !!! :0 Seriously, you're really showing almost natural lip patterns as you speak, able to move both sides almost evenly - I'd pat yourself on the back for hanging in there and smile a lot :)
I knew you would come through this just fine. Much of the day to day drudgery you feel now will soon be replaced with large quantities of positive feelings. It's already been a month and you're looking more fresh and invigorated every day. I know from your point of view you still look very unlike Shelby but believe me you are making great progress. You'll be surprised just how soon everything will be so much better. Just keep hanging in there. You're doing great!

Find mobile car washers! There is so many in LA that are hunting for work and they will wash you car really well, my guy washes my SUV inside and out for $20 and leaves my car so so so clean.

I was in invisalign for 3 years and it changed my hit completely, but you’ll get used to it pretty quickly. I just finished back in September and I love my new smile.

Take it from someone who has had 6 jaw surgeries. It will take about 4 months for swelling to come down externally/ visually. My surgeon said that it can take up to year for all the residual swelling around nerves to go away but you won't see any of that. Walking for around 30 minutes plus at a time will bring down swelling as well (Yeah running feels strange, kinda like your heart is beating in your face). Feeling and movement takes time but it comes back. You can do some very light tapping (almost like a tickle) over your upper lip/ cheeks/ jawline to slowly wake up the nerves. Learn't that in voice class and I don't know if it made a massive difference but I could feel all the nerves waking up which was reassuring.
