    This is the most important thing I think you've done yet. The vulnerability you've subjected yourself to is emotionally extraordinary. It HAD to take a massive amount of courage to do. Aside from your felling better about yourself and much more ease in your life from a personal aspect, I'm willing to bet that this experience will show the world a side of an online influencer in one of the most raw and real states. Get well... And again, I didn't even know you existed a few weeks ago and now I watch everything you post!

      Tell me about it - I've got a similar problem though, the hospital 🏥 with the dental specialist is very far away from home 🏡 as the local hospital 🏥 quite simply isn't good enough - even though, the federal and state government rebuilt the place 🏥 after many many decades - they still didn't add a dental department the silly eggs
      Anyway, best wishes to you and her ☺

    I just subscribed today. Not sure how I found you , but im glad I did. My 13 year old daughter is going to have the same surgery when she turn 17 or 18. She has been having issues with her jaw and lower jaw growth and it been getting worse every year. They want to wait until 17 or 18 years old because ortho says that when the jaw stops growing. Thank you for not only vlogging the good but the "ugly" part of surgery. It's scary but you are so brave and very helpful. You are helping me and my daughter prepare when she needs to get it done. Thank you. Today I have already watched 3 of your vlogs and hope to continue to support you.

      I’d visit several orthodontists and get opinions. Some may find a way around surgery. Your daughter may not like the permanent numbness or the chin recessed.

      As someone who had this surgery (albeit a lot worse version of it because it was 10 years ago) during my junior year of high school, I HIGHLY recommend waiting until after high school graduation to do it. Recovery time caused my grades to drop dramatically, the cruel jokes were awful, and I was still kinda swollen into my senior year. If I could go back and do it again, I would do it over the summer between High school and college, maybe even delaying college a semester to do it then. But the surgery has come a long way since then and the recovery apparently isn't as bad as mine was!

    • @chelsean2481
      @chelsean2481 3 года назад +2

      @@AmyJennea12 I had in between my high school graduation and start of college and it worked out quite well for me. I was still a bit swollen when starting college (swollen for me, but I convinced myself that another person’s face could appear this way normally so that made me feel better) but I was back to eating everything normally. Personally, I had to continue my braces until about November of that fall semester which wasn’t preferred but wasn’t too bad. Of course you can delay college if need be if you plan to attend college, but I just wanted to put out my experience! :)

    Love these videos! I'm 23 now and had double jaw surgery for basically the same bite when I was 16. The swelling was insane and they say it can take up to 6 months - year for it to fully go down! Also I hope you get the feeling back in your chin. I have one small spot on my chin that still doesn't have much feeling so people always have to tell me if I have food stuck there because I won't feel it! Definitely was worth it though.

One thing I wasn't prepared for was how many times I bit my tongue afterward! SO many painful times. It eventually becomes less frequent as you get use to the new alignment.
    I wish you a speedy recovery. Congrats to being on the other side of this journey! :) From Whidbey Island WA.

    It’s so crazy that you’re not wired shut! I had to have braces on and was wired completely shut for 4 weeks. I’m hoping that this new method means that you regain facial mobility a lot faster. There is a FB group called ‘we need/got jaw surgery’ and it helped me so much throughout the process. You should check it out! I met my “saw sisters” on there. We bonded over having had the same surgery. People who haven’t had it don’t understand and get bored by the conversation. I highly recommend finding a place to chat with people about the recovery because realistically it can take a while to feel like yourself again. Love following this journey because I’ve been there. I watch and say out loud “yep! .... oh yes... 100%... Mmmhmmm...” 😆

    I appreciate this series! Thanks for being super vulnerable. I have my surgery scheduled this month, and unfortunately seeing you experience this is convincing me to cancel the surgery altogether. I knew about the post-op numbness, swelling, etc, but actually seeing a visual is discouraging me. Thanks for posting, though😅

    Shelby you did it, excellent. Remember that I had jaw surgery in 1981 that I told you. You are doing great and you will be good! They know a lot more then in 1981! You are in good hands and feel better very soon. Drink your smoothies with healthy ingredients that all will help.❤️

    Hi Shelby! Just wanted to tell you how amazing you are. I have been following your channels for a little while now and so impressed with everything especially your commitment to this while in recovery. I hope your healing process is rather quicker than expected and it looks like you are powering through like the rockstar you are. You are an inspiration to me for hopefully starting my channel soon and I just love your videos. God Bless you and your beautiful family and I look forward to your next video.
