Will you please do another shootout once the Holmes Hobbies 180 motors are available? Stock vs Big Block vs HH 87T would be great. The HH motor is supposed to have a lot more torque (stronger magnets), so I'm thinking it will do really well with stock gears. Would be fun to see.
Yeah, that is what I wanna do is change over to bearings, I want to make my TRX4MT a little faster I got the F150 black. I’m really digging on it just got done installing the roll bar lights tail lights well sure appreciate the video. I’ll catch you on the next one.👍👍😎
I will say that mine performed similarly with the BigBlock at first, but after installing the bearing kit it is MUCH smoother. The driveline just has too much friction with the bushings for the crawl to be smooth imo. Also not sure if mentioned but mine came with a steel pinion pressed on when I ordered it.
Hey Matt sorry I’ve been so quite, just getting back to things since the holidays. But I’m catching up on the videos I’ve missed. I think the big block is an extent choice for anyone wanting to touch their toes into the world of upgrades and the performance just in that simple upgrade you see a world of difference and just what is possible to do with these awesome rigs.
If you want to do a follow up video for more budget setups, try pairing the motor with a Hobbywing 1080. Great ESC for the money and it doesn't whine! My slow crawl with the new ESC and crawler gears is excellent even on the stock motor. If you do go that route it will fit much better in your one with the Furitek carbon chassis. Those stock shock towers interfere with it if you use the same mounting position.
If you did not know, you can pair a traxxas tqi controller to the trx4m. The tqi with the bluetooth module lets you adjust settings on the trx4m. I set my throttle to 120% and it engages throttle at much lower input. Might help with the mofo motor.
Yeah I paired one just to try and it was a little better. I was really trying to find something better without the need for that transmitter. Because if you don’t already have one of those it’s not worth spending the money on one imo. Easier to just ditch the Traxxas esc to me lol
If you still have your XMAXX, get the traxxas link and bind the M's to it. The link is awesome for not having to go through the button pushing menu. I did it both of mine and i like it, gained some extra steering!!!🤘🤘🤘 I am thinking about pulling the trigger on the MOFO motors.
Great video! I saw Nick released a video with a big block but bearings on the transmission and the slow crawl with the stock gears seems very different than yours. Interesting take.
Yeah that’s the main reason I was so surprised at the slow crawl after I got it installed myself. His seemed so much better. The bearings should make a difference I’m sure but it just seemed crazy that mine was still pretty rough.
Appreciate the trial and error. This motor has been on my radar since release. Mofo with crawl gears seems to be very jumpy for a slow crawl. From your videos it seems like the stock motor with crawl gears does a better job getting over large obstacles smoothly which is what I am running. Would you still recommend the mofo if the only goal is a smooth slow crawl without going brushless?
I am running my orange Bronco pretty much stock except for wheels and tires. The slow crawl in my Bronco is better then the Furitek 1/18 truck. My rig also makes no noise when slow crawling...never whines.
thanx sooooo much for all the time u take to post these up, i luv all your vids. im on the fence for the big block as shipping to canada is same price as the motor itself....
i have a question. my mofo rc big block and bearings on the trx4m bronco was installed last night. is it normal for it to roll back on a slight incline? drag brakes doesnt seem to work well...
Hmmm it may not have as strong of a hold with that motor. I haven’t installed the bearings with mine yet so I haven’t tested it. That stinks. Is your esc in crawling mode?
I cannot help but ask a naive question - would keeping the motor, but changing the ESC be a possible low-ish (one would also need a receiver and a radio) cost option? I am asking, because I have seen a video where an otherwise stock EazyRC Glacier got a 1080 ESC and it’s crawling abilities improved a lot.
Yeah you definitely need to try either a very upgraded scx or pick up an FCX24 or Furitek Cayman. The scx24 is falling behind now when it comes to stock vs stock. They are garbage stock lol. My buddy had an Scx24 and didn’t get into the small crawlers at all. He ran my cayman and immediately started wanting one. We preordered the new cayman pro for him last wk. His outlook on them completely changed after running a good one. Either way I really appreciate you being here and for the comment!
I'd go with fcx24 if you want cheap out of the box crawler that can be upgraded if you want. If you want a more premium or custom truck go for the Cayman and skip the middle man. Customizing an scx24 will cost just as much or more. The trx4m is like getting an amazon alexa device, it's just there to milk you dry trying to upgrade it with overpriced hopup parts.
I’ve tried several motors with the stock esc and haven’t really been a fan of any so I’m thinking the esc isn’t great. A lot of it depends on gearing but I just don’t think I’m gonna get a great slow crawl with much wheel speed on this esc.
I would say maybe try a tooth smaller and press fitted pinion gear if possible. Bearings would also help. Brushless tho is fantastic and a good choice for the more demanding modelist that can afford it. Thanks for making this videos brother, this is great information on these awesome little trail crawlers. Do you think is possible to fit a fcx24 2speed transmission in the trx4m?.. 🤔 That would be a great upgrade in my opinion to have a low speed for smooth crawling and a high speed just to have that extra speed when needed. 🤗
@@2fmrc I have been wondering about the FCX24 ESC/RX combo swap into the TRX4m with the Big Block or even leaving stock 180 motor. Just hated to tear down my only FCX24 to try it. LOL I found the combo with TX for less than 50 bucks I think. Which makes it cheaper than the Furitek system, but nowhere close in performance, but maybe more affordable option. Any thoughts or ideas. I'm loving the MG41 transmitter of the FMS and hate the size of the Traxxas controller. Great content and love the info you put out.
@@2fmrc WYGD? I'm pretty sure I've done the same. Taking our Costa Rican friend out, I uploaded the night before and it wasn't the full one, then did the full one and it got less views, so I left both. I get it.
Any brushed motor is fine with water. That used to be the way to break in the brushes back in the day. Drop the motor in a glass of water and let it run for 20-30 mins.
You are King of Mini Crawler - thank you Sir!
Really appreciate that! Thanks for the comment 🙏
Wow amazing video seriously appreciate all you do for the community

Thanks, man. I immediately picked up my truck and started working on it.
I put a big block in my CR18P evo rock van, turned it into a beast...thanks @moforc
Holmes is working on a motor Im gona wait for his

Amazes me that when they first came out, people were swearing that this thing box stock crawled betterthen their built scx24s 🤙🏾🤣
Nope! Not even as good as a V2 scx24. I never felt like they were that great.

Not sure what truck you got but it must be a brand new release or something. The Traxxas slow crawl is terrible in every Trx4m I’ve seen.
After watching all the trx4m videos I'm glad I went with a fcx24.

I don’t doubt it at all. The 1080 is great. It’s just pretty huge in the smaller rigs imo. Hopefully Hobbywing is working on a smaller solution 🤘

I’d say it would be much better

i would have put a motor with more turn instead of less, stock gears but slightly slower motor, the slower the motor, the torquier it is usually
