for those who ask why this matters... of course her achievements matter. but identity matters too, especially in terms of representation. one cant be blind to such things, because there is a difference between a straight person and an lgbt person achieving things- an lgbt person must push past social stigma in the background of their achievements, while a straight person has no such issues. with lgbt people being a minority, with so few in a heteronormative society, having figures like her being lgbt brings much needed rpresentation. she stands as hero, who demonstrates just how lgbt people are just as capable of havinf such achievements as anyone else, similar to how she stands as a hero to women around the world
This is so cool! I’m actually related to her (she’s a relative on my grandmother’s side) and it’s so cool to learn more about her and what a strong person she was ❤️
Nice fake story you got there
Why you always liyin
no way this is your content now💀
I feel kinda bad
@@sirehan1002 im bi but like cmon man. this is terrible
Don't care about her sexuality. That's not what defines what she did.
@HarveyNorman AreCriminals no it doesn't unless you're a racist
@HarveyNorman AreCriminals lmao I’m black reading your name seems white and you said something a libtard would say lol the people focused most on race are literally racist such as you and same with the people of being heterophobes as they act like her being gay added when in fact it doesn’t add nor take away zero superiority in it there is inferiority in it but we ignore that nowadays lol
@HarveyNorman AreCriminals it’s pretty obvious the fact you think you need to mention race and sexuality when both mean nothing lol you’re the real racist lol and homophobe like no one cares she was gay or straight lol idiot no cares Neil Armstrong was straight either we straights don’t go and Neil was a real man he loved the ladies because it’s not needed idiot lol he was first on the moon that’s what he did idc if he liked dick or puss same with this random lady ive never heard of lol
@HarveyNorman AreCriminals essentially in your missions for everyone to k is sexuality like it matters shows your the true person who has an issue with peoples sexuality cause if you really didn’t have an issue being educated on a person’s preference wouldn’t matter at all cause you shouldn’t care idiot
@HarveyNorman AreCriminals and you’re confused as to why people have only disagreed with you in these comments lol NO ONE CARES THIS WOMAN IS A GAY because no one else is so obsessed with other preferences as you are
I didn't need to know she was gay to respect her. I always have. I do understand the importance of informing some people of this fact. I can't wait to go into space.
Do some actual research and you will realize space is very obviously fake. Do you actually believe nonsense claims like the moon is, at its closest to earth, 225 thousand miles away? The moon is very obviously not that far away to anyone with basic observational abilities.
@@cheesypoofz157 that doesn’t mean the space is fake
@@sirehan1002 No I suppose it doesnt outright, but it is a very easily noticeable lie they perpetuate. Good for a youtube comment where no one will read more than 2 sentences. thats why you have to do your own research. Start with the literal joke of an "astronaut" don petit and his moronic diatribe that they can no longer go back to the moon (not that they ever did) because "we destroyed that technology and its a painful process to build it back again". Wernher von brauns tombstone referring to the firmament is another amusing one. Existance of firmament = no space. Bill nye also said he really wanted people to understand that we live in a "closed system". Then there is neil degrasse tyson saying the earth is the shape of a pear (lol). There is nothing past low earth orbit that we can access.
@@cheesypoofz157 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
@@cheesypoofz157 so the moon is fake because it’s claimed to be “225 thousand miles away” but doesn’t look to be 225 thousand miles away? bruh.
What a wonderful woman, may she rest in peace
I'm curious why their sexual orientation is even relevant.....
Because the left only cares about identity politics. They’re retards
@@evanw7878 speak for yourself
Because representation is good
because representation in esteemed industries duh
it bothers me the title has the word “actually” in it.
"Ride demonstrated that LGBTQ people...can do incredible things in ... jobs" - She said it like LGBTQ people are lacking some qualities that straight people have and it makes them inferior, but EVEN THEY can achieve something. And don't you want equality? Then stop differentiating yourselves. Also, your sexual orientation is not a personal trait
i think you missed the whole point of that lmao. in that era, it was believed that homosexuals weren’t established human beings in the workforce; in fact it was believed that they didnt even exist there. but they did. and thats what ride brought to the table.
1:23 1:24!?
Why would I want to know her sexual orientation? I don't know about her but I like gentlemen 😂😅
What? Is this actually a thing? There's already other 3 episodes?
5:10
Cant wait for those quarters
Y'all should do Leonardo da Vinci
Does anyone actually care whether she was gay or not? It seems like a weird thing to focus on. What does being gay have to do with being good at riding a rocket? Okay, other than the awesome pun opportunities there if the person is a guy lol. Being gay isn't a disability (unless you are trying to breed, I guess). If someone said "Wayne Gretzky is an amazing hockey player but did you know he is actually straight!?" wouldn't that just seem odd?
@@snufkinsnatchedmywig1897 I see, though a lot of younger people haven't lived through those times or in that culture. I wasn't even born when Sally flew to space and I'm guessing that I am on the older side of people who watch this channel. It would be good to bring up the context in which the protagonist grew up and lived to explain why their sexual orientation was a factor in something so seemingly unrelated today, such as piloting a spacecraft (specific events or barriers caused by society's perception of the protagonist sexual orientation that the protagonist had to overcome would be great).
Without that context, it just sounds like the narrator is just strangely fixated on the person's sexual orientation. (At least it sounded that way to me).
Lmao buzzfeed and the cap lol
what??? how is this cap
Fr Lonsco
a lot of people say they don't care but then take the time to leave a comment on this video 🙄 just don't watch it then
Oh wow you guys are smart. Focusing on if theyre straight or not rather than their achievements. Great work
Who cares if they were or weren't straight? Lmao yall say it shouldn't matter what sexual orientation you are then make videos like this
Who says it doesn’t matter? Republicans lie and say it doesn’t. But as a queer person it is nice to hear about the successes of my family

Historical icons that I never had any interest of their sexuality. Wait. Still don't. Only care about their achievements..
If the original Apollo astronauts could have intimate portraits of their wives, relationships and family life in countless magazines, television specials and documentaries - why should we ignore that for this astronaut?
@@HermanVonPetri Nobody cares about sexual orientation, wether an astronaut is gay, bi, straight or whatever what truly define them is their boldness and knowledge not their sexual life it's absurd
@@MrScarf-zm9ih If you truly didn't care then you wouldn't be complaining about hearing about it. You obviously do care.
I happen to know that John Glenn, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were all straight men because NASA and the media went to great lengths to portray them as married, all-American "family men" with pretty little wives waiting at home for them. I know that Jack Swigert on Apollo 13 was portrayed as a bit of a bad-boy playboy because he was single and dating, unlike the other crew.
Regardless of you wanting to pretend otherwise, public figures like this _do_ have their private relationships discussed by the public and in the media because there _is_ interest in it. There was obviously _some_ reason that their marriages were mentioned in magazines and TV shows.
@@HermanVonPetri I truly don't care, relationships needs to be private. I don't have any business to knowing why this person is straight or not.
If you think that's what define a person then i will not try to convince you otherwise, still it's absurd.
@@MrScarf-zm9ih It's not about defining a person. Those are your words, and it's telling. Rather, it's about correcting the record. About providing insight.
Certain people, preachers, politicians say whatever they want about gay people. They make things up, distort the truth, misinform and spread hate. But yet _you_ don't want to hear it when there is a positive story about a gay person. _You_ don't think it's important for people to be informed about the contributions they can make.
Well you didn't have to click on this video. It was quite clearly titled. Everyone in this comment section knew what it was about. Why are you here?
This video looks so much like the videos from Bright Side
You forget to mention not one of the applications she filled out and submitted for all the jobs she had asked her sexual orientation, as for gender I've long felt it should be removed from applications or at least only allowed when the organization can prove a specific gender is essential to completing the job/task.

omg guys guess who my new idol is next to my siblingsssss
Sally Ride - *doesnt want her accomplishments recognized just for being unique
Buzzfeed - imma pretend I didn’t hear that
Who cares about Sally’s sexuality? I respected her for what she did, not her sexuality. Her sexuality doesn’t define her and since I knew her personally, she wouldn’t want “Oh, I was a lesbian” to be her legacy and she sure enough didn’t want to be remembered for that. So many people have lost sight of that since her passing. Before then, people simply respected her for what she did. She simply wanted to be remembered as a woman who wasn’t afraid to do what she did, not for her sexuality. A lot of the honors that she has received unfortunately after her death had something to do with the fact that she was gay. And besides, Tam even mentioned that they didn’t like labels. To this day, I still respect Dr. Ride, but I only see her accomplishments. Mainly because her personal life didn’t matter to me because it was none of my own business. Now, I fully identify as a bisexual woman, but I don’t want to be remembered for that. I’d want to be remembered for the change I created, not my personal business. Now, hopefully, I’ve summed up how just about everyone feels about Sally’s legacy now.
Why i am feeling like they are disreaspecting this lady? 🤔

This is relevant because it is erased from history constantly. It's important for transparency and representation, gay people are not a new thing as some seem to believe.
How exactly is it erased from history? Nobody ever claimed she was straight or gay or bi or whatever. Its just being focused on now for no good reason. Hardly anyone actually believes gays are a new thing.
@@cheesypoofz157 People think it's a trend, like a "gen z" thing. It's omitted, especially when it is essential to the person's story. It's important to show that this is not a fad but something that has always been.
