Pretty sure he was actually an asexual/aromantic man. He was happy as a man most of his life, never had interest in any partner at all, and only using a woman identity as a cover for secret missions. His 'transition' was just Louis XVI forcing him to present as a woman to keep him under control so he could no longer have power over the royalty. D'Eon actually struggled to present as a woman, to wear those dresses and act feminine was rather a punishment to him.
