as someone who conveniently does tick-borne disease research in california and more specifically the san fran/bay area, lyme disease is not as prevalent in california as it is in the east coast. It seems like the tick was pulled off the same day/within a few hours of it attaching so as long as you dont have a bulls eye rash around the bite area, you pulled the tick out fully intact/made sure the head wasnt left in, and you do not feel any symptoms then you should be fine. Ticks typically need at least 24 hours of being attached to transmit lyme disease. The same can't be said for some other pathogens, but don't worry about those. There is a blood test to test to see if you have lyme but if you dont have a rash around the area then I wouldnt suggest going through that process. Hope this helped :)

I had lymes disease earlier this year, it is basically curable if you catch it really early which I luckily did. Just a couple weeks of crazy strong antibiotics and you'll be fine.

Hiya! Entomologist here! Ticks do not have fangs, they do have a hypostome which includes the chelicerae (fangs in spiders) as the barbed portion that they insert into the skin, which is the part i think you are referring to. Removing that does not mean that you will be fine, as lyme and other pathogens are transmitted through the salivary protein delivery system that ticks use to numb you and prevent coagulation of blood (similar process to mosquitos, but ticks feed for MUCH longer, meaning much more saliva is injected into the body of the host). Removing the tick is advisable, but if you are in an area that has documented cases of lyme disease (see CDC for maps), consult your physician following any tick feeding. Prevention is always advisable when outdoors in tick country!

I'm from coastal Connecticut where lyme disease was discovered, and while it is a pretty big issue here, nowhere near every tick carries it. Its rare enough where you're not guaranteed to get it from every tick, but its still good practice to clean and disinfect the area where you're bitten. Not saying this 100 percent but you'll most likely be fine. Stay safe, and wear bug spray!

If you want to test any ticks you find embedded in you, save it in a container of some sort, put it in the freezer when you return home, and figure out the best means of sending it out for testing near you. I think some universities will test ticks for different diseases, or it may be able to be sent for testing to a lab after visiting your doctor.
