@@elizabethreed5648 It’s been several months since you posted, and I hope your mom hasn’t wasted away. If she tolerates meats and fish well, her focus should be small, frequent high-protein meals. Yogurt, meats, fish, eggs. If she can tolerate some fat, include some fattier cuts and fish. Minimize or skip the carbs and sugars. They’re much harder to digest after gastrectomy and do nothing for providing nutrition. If she’s able to lift any weights, even light ones, that would greatly help her put on a bit of muscle. Muscle loss in aging is a huge factor in loss of mass, strength, bone mass, and affects overall longevity.
It is probably mostly the same as the diet he is saying here. He probably would recommend riced cauliflower or zucchini noodles. I know i ate almost exactly how he is describing here when i had gestational diabetes. Ate 6 times a day. Smaller portions. No carbs besides from vegetables mostly. I've had nonalcoholic fatty liver for years. I just received 2 boxes of pea pasta that I ordered online. It won't be worth it to return it. I'm going to throw both boxes away. I'm learning so much from Bobby! I love this channel! :)
Hey Bobby.....love your channel, lots of good info. I do have to mention, though, that the glycemic index for carrots is 16 and the glycemic load for a couple of small carrots is 8, putting carrots in the low range for both. 😊
Last year, I went keto/low carb and have gotten off meds and lost weight. My latest liver ultrasound showed milder fatty liver so I'm heading in the right direction. Sadly, my doctor advised a low fat diet...I wish he'd watched you or Dr. Fung.
Bobby you are so informative. Such a useful video. Much appreciated as usual. Extremely helpful. Can you do a video for low blood pressure please. Also for me high cholesterol one please. Thank you so very much you and your team!!! Much love to you your lovely wife and superstar Rosie. Thank you so very much. Kindest regards from England.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver is very common. It is generally diagnosed via ultrasound but many doctors will not tell you and if they do, they don't tell you what to do about it. Maybe, because a lot of their prescribed medications are metabolized in the liver and they don't want you to know that.
I am overwhelmed and confused now. Previously you said whole grain pasta and lentil pasta was good and didn't spike blood sugar, now all of a sudden it spikes blood sugar and creates and insulin response and now we have to avoid it. Someone please clarify this contradictory info? I was also under the impression that hemp hearts had too much omega 6? Going keto can't be the only way to fix fatty liver disease. This was by far the most depressing info I've consumed in a while. No oatmeal even?
I don't believe oats are entirely taboo. I actually went on an eating program that included oats, rice, quinoa, and couscous, and lost 46lbs in about 7-8 months. I think monitoring how much of those grains you eat per day is key. So, for instance, I eat cooked or soaked oats that measure to half a cup dry and that is the only grain serving I eat for the entire day. I have 1/2 cup of cooked rice for one of my meals, and that's it for the day. Same with quinoa or couscous. Insulin spikes every time you eat, but if you're controlling how much grain you are consuming you're also making sure that the spike doesn't get out of control. I think Bobby is right in giving advice to steer clear of grains for those who have fatty liver disease, but once that liver has had a chance to heal and function the way it's supposed to, I think it's actually good to have some healthy grains on the menu.
Rennie Palmer but couscous is not a grain. Couscous is actually made using semolina (as for when making pasta) and processed into little 'grain like' shapes.
@@nadinecamara5123 yes that's right, couscous is made using semolina granules, but semolina is made from crushed durum wheat, which is a grain :) That really wasn't so much my point. Rather it was that there are some grain-like healthy foods that are higher in carbohydrates (which can over-spike insulin if overeaten), but as long as they are eaten in moderate amounts, they shouldn't be a problem.
@@renniepalmer5564 I was diagnosed with fatty liver last year can you please help me what diet or food should I avoid or consume? To start healing/reversing fatty liver?

Unfortunately there is no such thing as sustainably farmed, it's just a marketing phrase. That salmon would be grey if the fish were not fed coloring. Wild caught only. Seaspiracy.
Thank you so much for addressing the proper ingredients to purchase and how to use them. Nobody seems to address how to drink coffee when it comes to NAFLD just that it helps. I'll definitely be saving this for future reference.
Couple questions. What are Atlantic Salmon fed in Norway? I've seen some farmed raise fish I would not eat because their food quality was low. Second, can you reach out to thrive market. Nobody can shop the Thrive until after your sign up. The commonly accepted method is for sites to allow you to shop without sighing up. I just started my journey, my brother had liver disease and my grandfather died from it so I’m trying to get ahead of it, my tests show cysts on my liver but I’m taking no chances. I know it’s common but it scared me that what if it’s a sign I better watch my liver.
I don't understand the recommendation to avoid oatmeal. I am six feet tall. weigh 150 lbs. and eat a large serving of steel cut oats every morning. I soak them overnight, do not cook them and add nothing except ground flax seeds. I suspect I have fatty liver from decades of poor eating, but my doctor says my blood sugar has been well controlled for more than 10 years.
The culprit is High Fructose Corn Syrup. It’s hard to find food and beverage manufacturers that don’t use it these days. HFCS is metabolized in your liver and it’s getting overwhelmed when it can’t break it down. White cane sugar is metabolized in the kidneys and doesn’t cause as much damage to the kidneys as HFCS does. I was under doctor supervision and lost 65+ plus pounds by drastically reducing or eliminating HFCS.
Thanks Bobby! For the veggies you mentioned: Brussel Sprouts, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower do they need to be steamed? Easier for your gut? Thanks in advance. I am already on a diet called the GAPS diet due to leaky gut. I appreciate your channel! 👍🏻❤️
You don't have to eat pasta substitutes stuff that comes from cans or plastic bags. Just make your pasta sauce and poured over steamed cauliflower or cabbage! People have to get over the substitute from a can or from processed foods..
I would like to point out that people that have NAFLD may also have other digestive problems such as low digestive enzymes, celiac disease, gluten intolerance, gallbladder problems and/or reflux. This means that cruciferous, gas causing, hard to digest legumes and vegetables that you mentioned are not helpful at all but a detriment to digestion and elimination Please consider adding butternut squash, other squashes, beets (mega betaine), greens, artichokes and other suitable vegetables for optimum liver and gallbladder health.
Thank you for your post! I have NAFLD & GI issues. I agree with you! Are all legumes bad? I just bought chickpeas for the first time. I just made a lentil salad. I love butternut squash & zucchini. I welcome any suggestions! Ty in advance. :)
@@helenfong3339 Legumes are not good for me because they are gas and bloat producing since they are hard for some of us to digest. I eat beets, butternut squash, green beans and/or zucchini every day and take enzymes as needed. I like videos from Drs. John Douillard, Ken D. Berry and Eric Berg about digestion topics, although Berry and Berg are very Keto oriented. Flav here makes a living by focusing on manufactured products, so if he finds prepackaged butternut squash, which does exist, maybe he will address it. The information is tremendous whether you’re obese or diabetic or not - so important! And his books on fasting are wonderful! He also has YT videos. He explains things so that everyone, from those starting at zero knowledge through those who are well versed, can understand and learn.
Also ✔ out DR. Try Dr Greger too. He wrote “How Not to Die” and “How Not to Diet”. Awesome.
Also Dr B who wrote “Fiber Fueled”. I am currently reading this book. Great and informative so far.
Bobby , you have changed my life! I’m literally forever thankful for a new outlook on understanding foods or other products I used. Yes! Used ! I literally was eating and using other care items that were harmful. I used to poo poo organic anything. Thinking how can anything really be organic?! It’s just a regular item with a jacked up price! But I’ve changed my outlook and now buy anything organic and simple ingredients and understanding the ingredients which you Bobby are an exceptional teacher!

Protein powders make her sick. She's 115lbs 5'5". Collarbone look like swimming pools empty. Horrifying. Doc says normal aging. HELP
End stage renal failure? Good Lord! At that point how is food going to help? My mother died of end-stage failure and by that time really nothing could be done. Just saying I love Bobby but he’s not a doctor.
I am not the biggest fan of fruit but i did eat some watermelon. Its mostly just water though. 😂 anything with high carbohydrates will turn to sugar and feed disease.

Fung.
low fat and whole grain is still the official medical recommandation. I find it hard to stay satiated on this.

I have a rare liver disease that's non alcoholic related. It's stage 4 but been like that for 5 years bc I m 90% vegan. TY for sharing your knowledge!
go carnivore
Non-alcoholic fatty liver is very common. It is generally diagnosed via ultrasound but many doctors will not tell you and if they do, they don't tell you what to do about it. Maybe, because a lot of their prescribed medications are metabolized in the liver and they don't want you to know that.
Yes that’s true
Bobby you have no idea the impact you have on all of us we need you and thank you so incredibly much
I am overwhelmed and confused now.
Whole grain pasta and oatmeal may be marginally ok for those with no health issues but they spike insulin far too much for those trying to heal nafld.
Yes to videos like these. I always trusted what’s out there. Now I know I must educate myself and others on foods that are right and wrong to eat. Thank you for educating the masses.

i love you for taking us to the store i got a fatty liver and i’m thinking when i did dirty keto a few years ago that it contributed to my diagnosis
For the veggies you mentioned:
Brussel Sprouts, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower do they need to be steamed? Easier for your gut? Thanks in advance. I am already on a diet called the GAPS diet due to leaky gut. I appreciate your channel! 👍🏻❤️
I roast all of those veggies, tossed with a little Evo and salt! Delicious!!!
You don't have to eat pasta substitutes stuff that comes from cans or plastic bags. Just make your pasta sauce and poured over steamed cauliflower or cabbage! People have to get over the substitute from a can or from processed foods..
I do not eat any food with more than 8g carbs per servings.
The only legumes I can handle are small amounts of peanuts and cashews. I would saw start with small amounts and see what happens. I love lentils and refried beans and hated to give them up.
