    As a northern angler, here's a tip. Dab some Vaseline on your rod guides to stop ice build up. And that was definitely a Sauger. I've seen Richard Gene catch them in that exact spot

    16:25 yeah, American Kestrel. They are cavity nesters so to see it looking around underneath the other structures is on par.
    22:12 Pileated Woodpeckers - the males have a red stripe on their cheek, on females it is black. I cannot see red in this video but behaviorally I would guess the male is the one who came in from the left.

    • @SuperDaveP270
      @SuperDaveP270 Month ago +3

      @@kallepettersson7497 - no moorhens in Alabama but Common Gallinule was something I had considered also (Purple Gallinules should have left that area already, if there were any). Coots are far better divers than gallinules, and do raise up their tails when startled (although usually it is the wingtips held up, which is assumed to be in prep for diving). There is a moment I paused it as the bird darts from the shoreline where I would swear coot over gallinule. I see wings up without any white on the tail. Granted the quality is not the greatest for making that distinction, but the eagle's white rectrices are easily distinguishable throughout so there is that. It is definitely not a hill I would die on, but for now I will stick to my earlier call.

    one suggestion I would give you is when introducing wild fish into your pond, I would do a isolation period and treat for parasites so you dont introduce these into the pond. simple isolation tank and a treatment of potassium permanganate (PP) will usually fix any external parasites and flukes. also give them a treatment of Metronidazole for internal general intestinal tract pathogens. PP is a pretty common pond treatment and easy to do with small volumes. metro is also a common treatment used in aquariums and good for treating wild caught fish that are sure to have some parasites. you can go further and treat with Praziquantel , but if the fish arent wasting and no weak signs maybe not necessary.

    • @rickcurtis3363

      That fish you did not recognize was a pickerel, they prefer the colder water (my area, Ontario) they usually get worms when found in warmer water areas when they get sluggish from the heat. Pretty sure that's why you didn't recognize it right off the top, they're real common up here. - Rick C.

    I asked my daughter (she's 4) and she said the spotted bass name should be Princess Mermaid. 😅
    Suggestion for the "Y", being up north, we like the name Yankee Doodle Dandy.

    Call the smallmouth Copper! After their distinctive brown/copper coloring.
    That? Or Biggie Smalls.

    That fish is a Sauger. Close relative of the Walley, but does much better in warmer watters than walleye do. Ive never caught a sauger, but if it tastes anything like its bigger cousin I wouldnt throw it back. Walleye are one of the best fresh water fish out there. Better than crappie. Maybe the only freshwater fish I would put above it is Kokanee salmon.

      Yep they taste the same, if you're fishing northern states or canada you'll want to look for them in the rivers as they aren't common in many lake and generally faster water than the walleyes but they do overlap in areas - especially near dams like in this video.

      Sauger for sure. Walleye has white paint on its lower back fin and a dark patch on the dorsal. Saugers are more like a leopard print look like that baby

    • @fuzzynippleman
      @fuzzynippleman Month ago

      To be fair, they look almost identical. The only real difference is walleye live deep down and have that white bit on the back fin.

    Spots on the dorsal fin, I missed that the first time watching the video. It's a sauger, the close cousin of the walleye

    Long nose GAR. One of the smaller, if not the smallest species of GAR, in NA. It'll hover around the surface area mostly, too. Will look nice.

    Really enjoy your channel. My wife and I always watch your videos as soon as they are posted. Would love to name a fish in your pond. How about naming one “Skipjack”? I appreciate the time you spend and the knowledge you share. I have even been talking about making another pond where we live now. Keep up the good work!

    Mystery catch was a Walleye/Sauger type. About as far south as you can find one. Up north people make their entire winter identity around catching those things under the ice.

    I would recommend stocking hybrid white bass in the crimson pond their sterile and will eat pellets and maybe you can put a hybrid white bass or a regular white bass in cedar falls!
