      Best is subjective. Flouro sinks like a brick. Sometimes you need something of neutral buoyancy or even floating. Perhaps you should have said the best bass fishing line. Or best lure fishing line. Or best flourocarbon line. Good video though. You earned the like.

    Without doubt the most thorough and complete line test ever done. Lots of line test videos out there but yours's was the ONLY one that I have ever seen that tested for line memory which is IMO hugely important as I use spin casting reels as much as bait casting reels and as a matter of fact my sons use spinning reels more and I own 2x as many spinning reel set ups as bait casters and memory is at times a very major problem.

I was used to power pro for my Buzzbaits and Frawgs and yes, we call em Frawgs down here 😅😂🤣😎🎣👍. Anyway, after watching Brent Ehrler tie a double uni for florocarbon line. Mono feels like fishing with a rubber band!!!😂 I have mixed emotions about what florocarbon to use. Best test I've ever seen!!!😎🎣👍 I still use Berkley big game on one med/heavy rod for walking and topwater baits,
    Spooks, tiny torpedoes, popr's, exc, because it a floating line and the best for those kinda baits. Thanks a bunch for the time you spent doing these test. You are now right up there with my favorite fishermen. Stay Safe and GOD Bless Brother 🙏🕊😎🎣👍

    I'm an avid user of Berkley Vanish, and based on the results of the testing, I see no reason to change! It not only scored very highly in both the overall and price categories, it's usually the cheapest fluoro on the rack at Academy or Walmart. I've been using it for years and have always liked it.

    • @MrNateRich
      @MrNateRich Год назад +5

      Vanish rots away faster than any other fluoro I have ever used. After 3-5 uses you have to change out the line. I’ve switched to Sunline Sniper, and this stuff lasts 10+ uses. I used to be an avid Vanish user myself. I just never even attempted to try a more expensive fluoro. Now I see why it’s more expensive.

      I use vanish for saltwater fishing and I like it. I've pulled many fish out of the rocks and coral. One time about 30 yards before I got the fish free. I found out I really need to lubricate the line well before cinching the knots and I need to tie the knot perfect but I guess that's the case with any line. I also change the line after a big catch but I've always done that, even with mono. Not at the beach but when I get home.

    This vid will get you a lot of views over the years. I’d love to see the top 4 of these flouros (per cost) go against 4 copolys. P-Line CXX, Gamma High Performance, Sunline Shooter Defier and Maxima Ultragreen. I’ll always choose copoly over flouro. I have more faith in it after it’s been fished and stretched a lot. I can’t afford to replace flouro regularly. That would also be a good test to repeatedly stress test a line with more poundage pulled and released each time it’s stretched to see when it shatters.

    To develop a more significant number for your power index, you need to use the radius squared, since that gives the cross sectional area and the actual strength. To use only the diameter gives an advantage in strength to any oversized line.

    @paulshibata5640 Год назад

    The design of your testing methodology is very practical and maintains objectivity. Thank You for your dedication. My only recommendation would be to change your "power index" to "tensile strength" which is normalized for cross sectional area. Thicker diameter lines need to be "punished" in a more accurate fashion given the squared relationship between radius and cross sectional area. Tensile strength is the established method of defining the strength of a material irrespective of the amount of the material being tested and in the case of fishing lines the thickness or diameter. Ultimately the tensile strength of a fishing line will be the same if you are testing 6lb test or 30lb test. Using your data, Yo-Zuri = 94.897 kg/mm2, Tuff Line = 67.489 kg/mm2, and Spro = 103.357 kg/mm2. Back a million years ago I was retained to test lines for Pure Fishing, Triple Fish, P-Line and a few others. Spro at 103.357kg/mm2 is quite impressive. anything over 100kg/mm2 is very good. The best copolymer lines yielded results approaching 120kg/mm2. Nice Work and thanks again. I will send you an excel spreadsheet to make life really easy to convert your data.

    Years ago, or maybe it was years and years ago, there was a show on TV where each week the guys tied and tested a fishing knot as a segment on the show, and then at the end of the season they gave out an award for the strongest knot, if I'm remembering correctly. They tested both commonly known knots and viewer submitted knots. Very interesting, but I like your presentation better as it compresses the time from months to, well, 18 minutes. Nice.
    I have a knot that I guess I invented (seems unlikely) as I have never seen it tied by anyone but myself, so I have never seen it tested, either. Your set-up seems pretty simple so maybe I will finally get around to testing it myself -- I have used this knot for 50 years or more and never had a breakoff that was the fault of the knot...at least not that I could tell. I have used it from 2# mono up to 70# braid, and everything in between. If done right it is self aligning, which is pretty cool. I have used it to catch everything from sunfish to salmon and sturgeon with nary a breakoff. One time, when fishing light trout gear for whitefish in the north branch of the Cowlitz River, I hooked into a big salmon (most likely) or steelhead and, when it realized it was hooked, it headed down stream as they are likely to do. I tried to follow but couldn't because of the terrain, so I decide to break'um off -- couldn't do it and the devil stripped all the line to the spool knot, which is where it finally broke off. I feel sorry for that fish having to drag all the line around. I subscribed!

    Well which line has the best rebound? Meaning... After the stretch test, how did they do when the tension was released? Did they return back to the starting length or did they remain stretched out? I think that test would be a good representation of durability. BTW... Thank you so much for taking on such a task like this. It really does help us all come to a better conclusion.

      Very good point, it seems to me that a lot of fluoros don’t spring back as well as mono, which gets a bad rap way too often and Not rightfully so in many case. It feels like most monos spring back and are just fine after a stretch, while fluoro springs back much less and as a result is weakened to a greater degree

    • @tinkertailor7385

      That would be a component of their Memory. Line with higher memory would be more likely to return to its original length and condition. So a line with a high Memory component is not necessarily a bad thing, just means you need to unspool it and tension it before a fishing trip if you intend casting a lot.

    Incredible amount of time you invested in this comparison and I don't disagree with any of it so thank you...but, the problem I have is fluorocarbon shock strength(using it as a 10' leader). My knots(double pitzen and Melvin island special) aren't failing but the flo( Vanish 10lb)which was one of the top performers is snapping during casting and also seems to break off easier when snagged. Just this week I changed back to Yozuri Hybrid, I did get snagged while on the river smallmouth fishing but it took a LOT more force to break the line, I had to wrap it around the reel handle to keep from cutting into my hand. I did not have one single break while casting. Last summer I was using a different kind of flo and had the same problems with zinging chatterbaits into the trees. I'm getting the idea flo has a weak shock strength at least when compared to Yozuri Hybrid, pretty tough to test shock.

    Good vid. One thing I would say is, if your knot is breaking before your line then you are trying the wrong knot or tying it wrong. I may break at the knot once every 2 years with the good old fashioned Trilene knot.

    Great informative video. I would love to see more detail of the other higher rated lines especially at the lower price point.
    For instance, Vanish gets trashed on every review i have ever seen but it actually tested fairly high on your list? The other metric I would love to see is how do these lines perform after a whole season? This is probably the biggest difference between us weekend fisherman and pros. Most regular people replace line maybe once a year!

    Now this is some good hard data, you set out some great parameters and had a pretty good amount of consistency through the tests to keep them even. Tatsu is still hands down my favorite because it’s got a bit more stretch and incredible knot strength which is an important factor you left out, my single main criticism.

    • @WILDBILLSOUTDOORS
      @WILDBILLSOUTDOORS Год назад

      I'm glad he didn't do a knot strength test, because it would be hard to keep it objective, being able to tie the knot correctly every single time. And looking at the big picture, the lines with that score the highest in breaking strength and abrasion resistance should score highest in a knot test.

    • @morganyoder4277
      @morganyoder4277 Год назад

      @@WILDBILLSOUTDOORS not even remotely close to the truth, lines with less stretch will generally be more stiff and consequently aren’t very good for knots. A softer line will score much better. Having a strong line is basically a waste if it loses 20% or more even with the correct knot.

    • @WILDBILLSOUTDOORS
      @WILDBILLSOUTDOORS Год назад

      @@morganyoder4277 maybe so, but you still have to tie the knot correctly

    • @WILDBILLSOUTDOORS
      @WILDBILLSOUTDOORS Год назад

      @@morganyoder4277 Me personally, I'm way more interested in memory and abrasion resistance. Flouro is a pain in the butt when it comes to memory, and if I can find a line that scores high in abrasion resistance, good strength, and less memory then I'm happy.

    • @morganyoder4277
      @morganyoder4277 Год назад

      @@WILDBILLSOUTDOORS memory and abrasion resistance are important but if your knot fails before your line does because it’s abrasion resistant what good is that quality.

    Very awesome video for sure. The time and effort was worth watching. Just a suggestion to add additional data would be to test each line on a specific rod/reel combo to see how each one does in actual application? You did mention that line diameter will effect lure action and drag on lake structure. Aside from my comment, you did one hell of a great analysis. Awesome channel.

    The only thing I wish you would have done differently was the price comparison. Rather than ranking each line by price 1-29, I think it could have been more useful to see the cumulative 5 test scores of a fishing line divided by its price per 100yds or something like that. I do appreciate that you showed us the scores before the price was factored in. Now this is something I can still reference and do on my own price assessment in the future.
