    I have NASH and HAD stage 3 bridging fibrosis per a 2003 liver biopsy. Under a liver specialist care, for 15 years I have taken Fish oil and Vit E. I recently entered a UCSF study and as a part of that received a fibroscan that shows I have improved from a stage 3 to Stage 2 bordering on Stage 1. I believe those supplements and more importantly keeping my diabetes under control from an A1c of 8 to the last couple of years a 7.0 was what improved my NASH. So I recommend controling your diabetes! Good luck!

    I was diagnosed with NASH, which had progressed to Grade 3. Over the past year, I made significant lifestyle changes that helped me reverse it. I lost 10 kg by controlling my weight, stopped eating red meat, and cut out refined oils completely. I now use only a small amount of mustard oil. I also have type 2 diabetes, which I’ve kept under control with a strict diet. I avoid fruits like banana, sweet lime, and mango as they are harmful for diabetes. I also stopped eating wheat and instead focus on a more balanced diet, including nuts. As a result, I no longer need liver medication, and my diabetes remains stable. I believe that regular physical activity-pushing the body for 2-3 hours to the point of exhaustion and pain-is key to maintaining good health.

    Dr, Thank you. I was so hoping you would include Berberine.❤I have been on Berberine since November. It's changed my life.. I've lost 36% of my original weight. I now have my best friend's son, as well as my own on it. It stops the insane cravings. I'm still doing the work but it's not a constant uphill battle to not think of grazing or eating carb filled rubbish anymore. I didn't tell my doctor because I didn't want the usual Doctor's speal on it being useless. I had my yearly bloodwork done in July and when I went in my Doctor flat out asked me as I sat down "what have you been doing?" All my markers had dropped. The biggest change was cholesterol. Everything had dropped to a decade ago's levels.

      Full agreement on the Milk Thistle (unless you have severe ragweed allergy since it is in the same family). And dandelion root tea with half a lemon squeezed in. Also, turmeric and black pepper added to a daily salad with olive oil & apple cider vinegar (turmeric is fat soluble, pepper increases absorption) Anecdotal, but an ultrasound showed I had fatty liver and my AST &ALT were in the 120s a year ago. After the use of Milk Thistle & tea & lemon & turmeric with black pepper, my labs dropped back to the 20s. Full disclosure: I also took most processed foods and sugars out of my diet, which probably accounted for a big % of the drop. And 25lb weight loss over that time span.

    My first post from this doc. Very impressive and up to date for a conventional physician. Nac/glutathione I think has good evidence behind it. Also Curcumin is said by some to need pepper to potentiate it so worth checking out although thats not my experience
    Unfortunately while food is your best medicine theoretically, depletion of nutritional value and addition of toxins and in some cases substitution for more palatable varieties but with less nutritional value, all mean that supplementation is often required. Of course if we ate and drank and lived right in the first place then we wouldn’t have fatty liver….

    Regular CoQ10 (ubiquinone) is OK for younger people (below age 40), but ubiquinol, the reduced form of CoQ10, is the better version for older adults because it is ready to be utilized by the body and doesn't have to be converted, which older people have trouble doing. I've been taking ubiquinol and omega3 for many years and they are the most effective of all the supplements you mentioned. I also take berberine to promote metabolic health and it is far more effective for gut health than every probiotic I've tried. Probiotics tend to be useless in my experience. I take 500mg of berberine 2x daily 30 min before meals and it fixed my gut issues. However, it's best to start berberine slowly and gradually increase dose to avoid GI distress, although this was temporary for me and passed in a week or so.

    Nice summation. I am in good health and hope to continue, as such my emphasis is to combat inflation (particularly arterial inflammation) and insulin resistance. My daily supplements are baby aspirin (81), K2 D3, Berberine (1200), Fish oil (omega 3), Zinc and Magnesium. That and a 4-5 mile bike ride and laps in the pool everyday but I am going to try resting a day in between to see if it works out. The first point of attack is to reduce the insulin resistance, I measure my blood glucose to see if I can reduce the cycle range from 65-130 (fasting to eating) to 65-110. Sadly, I have almost given up all high sugar and flower foods like pastries, donuts and so on. Takes time to adjust, but getting use to it and can ignore temptations now. Is there a better home test that I can use to measure insulin resistance? Inflammation testing, not sure how to measure, any information is much appreciated.

    I have fatty liver and I'm currently on a keto/carnivore type diet to target reductions in my fasting insulin and AST/ALT measures. Regarding supplements to speed that process, recent research has targeted several supplements such as Turmeric/Curcumin as potentially causing liver damage. Now, I'm thinking that curcumin has also shown many benefits on other studies, so to mitigate potential issues, I'm reducing its dosage, but not eliminating it. Some of these supplements come in very large doses, and I suspect our bodies were never designed to metabolize that much of a given nutrient or herb. Less can be more. The fact that these are beneficial doesn't mean you can't overwhelm liver function, and most supplement formulations seem to be based on more is better. Along with a keto type diet, I think including but not overusing these nutrients is an appropriate approach.

    Can you recommend what probiotics to take

    • @CandyGirl44
      @CandyGirl44 Месяц назад

      Take what you feel has an effect. I personally found no benefits from supplements, try to keep my gut healthy with plenty of fruits and veg. Fermented foods are good sources. I literally feel my immune system weaken when I eat shop bread, not handmade sourdough, sweet stuff, alcohol, white rice, white flour and refined and processed foods. It's hard as I am a sweet tooth junkie, like a glass of wine and junk food!
      Also beware taking too many probiotics - our gut should produce them naturally, and you don't want billions of strains of microbes fighting in there!

    I believe in supplements. But the greatest challenge is quantities. How much to use and how much impact they may have on the condition. Most doctors are not well trained on this, and many admit they are unable to advise. Some even disregard them as inferior to medicine. Yet we are always told to consult our doctors on the use of supplements. Shouldn't we be told to consult a dietitian?

    Here is my issue as an academic, health professional and someone who recently had some elevated liver enzymes as well as gallbladder stones/sludge. So, being an academic in health field, I went online reading everything I could find about slightly elevated enzymes and just didn't come to any positive conclusion. Specialists, medical specialists advice more protein, no processed foods, no sugar and fruits, not legumes etc. Others, suggest legumes and cheese, turmeric etc., etc.. I looked up scientific literature in the last 5 years and unpaid research is inconclusive. So, as on all matters medical, what are people to believe? So confusing.
