You tube picture updated ;Taken in Sardinia 2023 aged 65
63 years old and was diagnosed with heart problems, diabetic, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high sugar levels, and fatty liver, 19 stones =266 lb. went on a keto diet, then interment fasting and started walking every day. 8 months on now down to 85 lbs lost 8 inches around my waist, 2 inches around my neck. blood presser now normal, cholesterol normal, blood sugar stable, no more diabetes. walking now 6 to 8 miles every day 2 hours, sleeping better, eating one good meal day some times two. Only eat between the hours of 2pm and 6pm in the day. water black coffee or green tea for the rest of the day. have improved gut microbiome by eating more fibre both soluble and none soluble. Cut out alcohol completely for 6 months but now allow one small glass of red wine on Saturday and Sunday diner. fatty liver reversed . now 64 and weight steady at 202 Lb
    UPDATE 25/07/23
it's been 9 months since i posted and just thought you guys would like to hear how things are progressing. Now down another 12Lb and my body fat% is down to 18%, my goal is 15%
I am on a 60 day carnivore challenge and feeling pretty good so far (5 day's in) still doing OMAD as well. Just had a Heart function MRI scan and the news was very positive indeed. given my condition the Cardiologist was very impressed with my heart function and flow rates. I have recently joined a gym and working on trying to build up some skeletal muscle and improve my cardio, still doing my walking, but now with a 5Kg weight in a back pack. Now 65 years old and feeling in better shape than i did when i was forty. I will admit i was a lazy couch potato and had to have a massive warning shot across my bows to wake me up. Trust me, if i can do it, anyone can do it, you just need to motivate your self you will feel so much better and be able to get off those meds. as always speak you're health care provider before stating out an any diet or exercise and start slowly but gradually build up to where you want to be. Wishing you all good metabolic health
    UPDATE 11/01/2024
Once again, can I thank all of you who have sent encouraging posts
They really do make a difference. So, I was asked recently to make another update so here it is. Well, the holiday seasons has come and gone and like all of us, we all over indulged. I was pretty good over all, but still +5lb heavier. I have gone back to OMAD to lose those Pounds and already they are coming off. Last year I started to do resistance band training to try get some strength and muscle weight back on. So, I went back have been eating three meals a day (LOW CARB); bullet coffee in the morning at 6.30., 9.00 am some kind of 3 egg dish, scrambled usually. 2.00 pm I have a protein shake with three raw eggs in it, and dinner at 5.30 some meat or fish with either salad or green veg. I am trying to eat one gram of good protein for one LB of body weight. Saturday night is steak nigh and I have roasted meat on Sunday. NO Bread, NO potatoes or starchy veg, all low carb still, about 90% carnivore. I am now about 200Lbs (I am 6’4”) @ 17% body fat. I am starting to look a little fitter which is good but my main aim is to get stronger to counter any signs of sarcopenia which we all suffer from in old age. I am looking to get stronger bone density stronger muscles and reduce my risk for dementia. I will update again in six months to let you all know how things are progressing. In the mean time wishing you all happy New year and good metabolic health. Make 2024 your year for change.....
    27/April /2024
Well, a lot of people have been asking for an update so here it is
    New blood test results
    CRP 0.58 Mg/L
    White blood cell count 5.3
    albumin 40g/litre.
    HBA1C =4.2 MMOL
    serum TSH level 2.5 mU/l
    Serum Cholesterol 12.5 mmol
    Serum HDL 1.92 mmol
    Serum triglycerides 1 mmol
    Serum LDL 10.1 mmol
So it’s been nearly five months since my last post and as you can see all is well. As a Hyper lean responder, I had expected my LDL to very high but my triglyceride to H DL ratio is 0.455 so no worries there. I have put on 10Lb of weight but mostly muscle as I now work out with resistance bands and dumbbells and bench bar. Blood pressure remains normal 110 /68 to 120/70
It was noted in one blood test my testosterone levels had dropped so I am on testosterone gel 2% to get my levels back up
I am still walking between 8,000 and 10,000 steps per day sometime up to 14,000 on a good day
My diet has slightly changed due to the muscle building phase i am going through (to avoid sarcopenia) so protein is now a large part of my diet. My weight is now 120 Ib, I try to eat 120 grams of protein to help build and keep my muscle mass up, So a typical day will start with High isolate protein shake with 4 raw eggs and creatine + L-Lucien, lunch is usually something like a ham and cheese 4 egg omelette and dinner is some kind of meat or fish with salad or green veg with usually avocado as well all low card but do cycle some carbs in on high training days. Sometime lunch’s will be canned salmon or sardines as well. If I need to top off the protein, I will have a protein shake before bedtime. I have started to notice my body beginning to shape up looking firmer and fitter. I seem to have good energy levels although getting up in the morning I am a little slow until I have had my bullet coffee but I am coming up 66 years old. Over all I feel so much fitter and leaner like I was 40 again. I would like to thank all of you who continue to post your comments onto me, I really do appreciate them so keep them coming I will always try to reply. I have said in the past if I can achieve this then you can, you will never regret changing once you feel the body lose it’s fat and inflammation
A special call out to Dr Robert Lustig. Dr Nadir Ali who’s youtube pod casts keeps me firmly in the keto camp. Wishing you all good Metabolical health

After three decades of attempting to lose weight using low fat diets, I finally heard the words that changed everything - "You'll never lose weight until you heal your fatty liver". That was in June 2020. I began eating to heal the fatty liver, but over a few weeks, I began to learn more about keto and intermittent fasting. Over the next ten months, I lost 103 pounds and fixed everything - including borderline Type 2 Diabetes. I can also climb stairs without joint pain now.
Two years later, I'm still on two meals per day and my weight is constantly healthy. I'm in the gym every other day and I hike for four miles on the other days.
I feel cheated by the powers that be. To think that I was misled for half a century.

Dr. Ekberg, I was in shock when I found out that I had a fatty liver a few years ago because I never drank alcohol. I never heard of NASH before that. With all I've learned from you, I've lost 125lbs and almost in the normal BMI range. All of the good things you claimed that could happen did happen : No more fatty liver, no more GERD, depression, joint pain, facial breakouts, etc. I am 54 and female, so most interestingly the majority of the symptoms lumped into menopause are gone or much lessened. I honestly do feel better than I did in my 20's. just wanted to say thanks!

Come on. Dr. Ekberg , fatty liver IS CAUSED BY DRUGS.
PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICATIONS ( drugs ) of various drug classes CAUSE FATTY LIVER DISEASE
      ( NAFLD , etc . )
And it takes many years , if at all , to reverse the condition .
To do so ( regain health ) you must also completely abstain from alcohol and all similar substances.

I want to say that you are so right about fruit being unhealthy. I was one of those people who thought natural sugars were harmless! I went on a rawfood diet and was juicing and making smoothies every day thinking i was getting healthier! Was feeling great at first, my skin looked great, was losing weight even! Then it all went down hill. I flooded my body with so much sugar from juicing that I ended up with insulin resistance with hypoglycemia, my blood pressure went through the roof, 220/115. I was having anxiety attacks, tachycardia and dry mouth. Went into the hospital and had high cortisol, low potassium. Doctors were clueless. I was specifically told that it WAS NOT my diet. Prescribed anxiety pills and blood pressure meds. I threw them in the trash and did my research. I had to figure out what was wrong with me on my own. It was very scary. Only thing that reversed it was going low carb high fat for life.

I used to have pain in the top of my liver. A finger wide and only there on the top. The best medic I could find told me it was phantom pain. Imaginary. Since I don't drink I was reasonable convinced and never complained again.
But, after a mix of keto and very low carbs (love guavas and fat milk), I lost 22kg and the pain was gone.

Thank you Dr. Ekberg. 6months after being diagnosed with NAFLD I found you. I immediately watched all of your videos and followed a strict diet on the foods that you suggested. Just got my results back from my latest blood tests and they are now within normal limits! My liver has responded well in reversing the fatty liver issue! I can't thank you enough. I did not lose as much weight as I had hoped, but I did lose 10lbs. See I've only gained wt. in the last 10 years...first time ever being overweight. And I HATE it! I miss me! I am disabled and have mobility issues, but have been pushing myself to be more active. I was bad...I actually had my first piece of toasted bread with honey in over 6 months yesterday...But I will not go back to eating the poisons I know now that are going to damage my liver and body again. Now if I can just lose wt! Nothing I do seems to help me. Help!

I appreciate your kind suggestion.@@etaandtaz5867 Thank you! But I found I trust Dr. Ekberg more. There have been things suggested by Dr. Berry that I don't agree with always. I have tried the carnivore diet, but I always get so sick from it. It hurts my kidneys. Back when the Adkins diet came out I got on board as I was just starting to put on wt. even though I was still active and working. I just put it down to being menopausal. I'm past that now, and still battling extra wt. but I live a very immobile lifestyle. Homebound and mostly bedbound. I try to do as much as I can, but I pay for it! At least I have reversed the non-alcoholic fatty liver. I've cheated several times over the holidays...bad me! But not gone overboard. I ate bread the other day and boy have I been paying for it! I simply wanted a fried egg sandwich so bad! So I had one. I'm getting over it with my IBS medication. So not worth it! I had a pork chop and some wilted greens for dinner. I feel pretty good tonight.

I was told I needed to do something about high chloresterol, bad blood sugar levels, blah, blah and given the usual diet and advice I tried but it made no difference. I then discovered that if I ate a three egg omelette with melted full fat cheese, gently fried in butter or ate the crap allowed by the deit, my chloresterol levels didn't change. And even if I ate no sugar and had the allowed slices of awful wholemeal bread, blood sugar didn't improve. Until I discovered that cutting all starches and fruit out did make a huge difference. I eat all other foods I fancy but only in minuscule amounts and not too frequently, including as alcohol and pure black coffee, which I'd had since early childhood because some Mediterranean parents feed kids these daily for good health, in weak doses. Few end up as alcoholics, unlike in Anglo cultures. Alcohol and coffee are treated with respect, as natural medicines/drugs, not to be overdosed on, abused. Moderation.

Thanks for this very nuanced and in-depth presentation, Doctor Ekberg. This has been an eye-opener for me (50) after watching several other YT talks that were lacking depth, sound logic, or any evidence (bar one whose main point was to cut out any large sources of sugars, natural or not, because of the fructose (the key culprit). They also suggested, more bluntly and to the point than you, that it's about eliminating the food sources from our system that cause it rather than adding anything if one wants to reverse this. I have a hyperdense and somewhat fatty liver, ''but nothing major for your age''' according to my doctor, suggesting I reduce alcohol (advice which I ought to take on board), refined sugar and carbs in general whilst eating a healthy diet including many veg and fruit (which I do already, especially fruit, which I know understand is detrimental). You've a new subscriber as how you present your message makes 100% sense and I wonder what else I could learn from you :-)
I'm wondering whether 2-3 apples a day is overdoing it? Them and mandarines (sometimes oranges, and also dried mangoes, some varities of which aren't that sweet actually ) are my weak spot and I've found myself binging on those time and again. I would have thought with the sugars locked into a lot of fibre, a lot less fructose would make it to the liver? How many portions of (high-fiber, not starchy bananas for sure) fruit may be permissible so fatty liver clearance is still possible (albeit slowed down a little)? I especially enjoy eating apples :/

Having a family history of diabetes was always concerning for me, but it came as a shock when I checked my blood sugar level causally because the doctor had asked my wife to keep checking her blood sugar level in 3rd trimester. I was shocked to know that my sugar level was at 340 which was way larger than I expected. I was going to be father and being diagnosed with diabetes was really concerning. My weight was around 95 kg at that time. I run Hb1Ac test and to no surprise it came back 7.2, I visited doctor and they suggested the medicine that drain excess sugar via urine but after 1 month i realized my kidneys were being stressed, thats the time i came across dr eckberg videos and they have changed my life i have lost around 15 kg and my hb1ac is around 5.7 now which is still high but i am trying my best to follow the diet. Thanks for these videos dr.😊

@@sumankumar-gy9ec Hi suman! Being in sub-continent I couldn’t completely eliminate carbs from my diet but i did decrease the size of my roti 🫓 and included more protein and fat in my diet. I decided to skip lunch and decided to have breakfast and dinner only. But it was gradual change, i eliminated sugar from my diet completely. In breakfast i had one small paratha with egg and shami kebab. Then a cup of tea without sugar, my lunch contained only fresh fruits like guava, apple and sometimes banana. My lunch contained again 1 roti of small size with vegetable salad and traditional gravy which contain either chicken or mutton. Thats the diet i followed one thing i kept constant is that i walked daily for thirty minutes no matter what. My this plan helped me a a lot and i am still following this. I think most important thing is to avoid sugar as our sub-continent is full of sweet and savory deserts which are hard to avoid.

So appreciate you are including meat and eggs, as I recently found I was Insulin Resistant which answers the question of my NAFL (fatty liver), and I got a book "Why We Get Sick" by Bitman to help; he says the same as you say about what to eat. However, my doctor's statements about what to do are parroted and not what she has investigated. It seems that doctors today are woefully underprepared to deal with HEALING, but ask them about a test or drug...they got that down, but none of that heals anything; it just propagates more side effects and income for pharmacists. Thanks for the sober way you present this so it makes sense. You are on the right road.

Very good presentation. Thank you for posting this amazing health information to help people who suffer! Over the past several years I have slipped back into eating too much sugar and carb rich foods. It has made me very sick feeling like my brain is poisoned. The symptoms are depression, lack of motivation, mood swings and just overall poor quality of life. The sugar and high carb denial is absolutely the strongest form of addiction. Your videos are so clear and concise that it helps break through that denial. I started back eating properly three weeks ago and my brain is now feeling clear again and I am very grateful. Please listen to this Man and don't fall into denial about sugar and carbohydrates. If you are sick be very strict about your diet and dont give in to the temptations because in time your body will heal itself.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I greatly appreciate it. I’m between a rock and a hard place. I have fatty liver and am overweight. I had something for 10 months that started instantly in January of 2023. Low blood pressure, extreme exhaustion, weird taste, extreme hunger, dizziness and couldn’t sleep, just to name a few.
I have little respect for medical professionals so tried to wait it out, like I did in 2017 with Valley Fever.
Finally the first of November I went to emergency room. I had one half of blood volume and iron was at critical low. I received a pint of blood and felt better almost overnight. In the process a ct scan showed fatty liver and hiatal hernia. Also, I had gained weight from eating lots of fruit juice, salty chips to add salt, dried fruit and sandwiches.
The fatty liver scared me and I immediately went on Keto diet. Was feeling really good, lost 10 pounds, and things looked good. However, now I’m experiencing dizziness and nausea. I am wondering if my carb intake is too low and that is the cause? I really want to do what is best for my liver but I’m not keen on being nauseated all day.
Talking to traditional Dr. about diet is a joke. They want to prescribe meds or do surgery. My iron test results improved in 3 weeks so I feel like I’m on the right track there. Will retest in February for more blood and liver results.
Has anyone here developed nausea and dizziness while on Keto? If so what did you do to alleviate them. Thank you for your response in advance.❤

I have a fatty liver because of rapid weight loss which was out of my control due to diarrhea for 4 months until I discovered a specialized probiotic for travellers diarrhea... I lost too much weight and trying to gain some back.. I had an ultrasound which confirmed my gallbladder had sludge and I had a fatty liver so I did more research to discover that the sludge was caused by the liver.. I am finding I need to be careful with new herbal products because they sometimes trigger the diarrhea again
