I had my gall bladder removed a few years ago, do I need to do anything significantly differently? Are there any additional things I have to take into account when trying to lose weight? Also, I have been swimming as my exercise, and am putting in one mile to begin with, then doing 5 X 100 meter sprints after the mile, to try to get some HIT in; is that the correct approach?

Dear Dr. Ekberg, thank you so much for this extremely clear and thorough discussion of a very complex matter. No one, and I do mean no one, explains these important concepts better than you do. You are definitely at the top of my long list of RUclips influencers regarding all aspects of physical health and wellness!
And today, I am especially grateful for your mention of how cortisol leads to a craving for carbs. I have a major problem w inescapable stress & consequent sleep deprivation that i believe is preventing me from losing weight. And now, thanks to you, I realize that every time I find myself desiring carbs again, despite my nearly eliminating them for months now, it is merely an indication that my cortisol is up. And so, per your suggestion, I will turn to meditation instead of Stevia at these unexpected times, lol, and perhaps I will finally find a solution there.
So thank you again, so much, and I wish many blessings and blue skies to you and yours. And also, congrats on the anticipated expansion of your practice and reach. I live in North Carolina, literally within a days drive away, so perhaps we will meet in person someday.🤞

I started IF and OMAD with a Keto diet Dec. 29th for health reasons. Not only has my health improved to the point I’m no longer on medications that I believe were killing me, I’ve lost 50 lbs! What’s amazing is that I’m 82 years old! I have my life back. I started my journey at 207 lbs. and my current weight is 157 lbs. I’m 5’7” tall. If I’d had this information earlier in life, what a difference it would have made.

I think this statement is great and really makes a lot of common sense. I'm one of those people you are talking about. I have hereditary high cholesterol and Some of this "go ahead and eat red meat" diet advice is dangerous for people like me. My LDL is 337. My triglycerides are sky high. There is no red meat in my life and there can never be again. If I'm gonna have a higher fat diet, It's gotta be sourced from fish, olive oil and nuts. Complex carbs are good for me. I have to eat oatmeal to get the cholesterol down. As you said, everyone is different. Some people can eat steak every day and have low cholesterol.

NO sugar, no bread, extremely reduced carbs....so far this is very sustainable and I am stilling learning and adapting. I have been doing intermitted fasting for 6 weeks now. Today I broke my 40 hour fast. So far I lost 17 pounds. Your videos are my motivation, education and inspiration. I watch them every day and repeat many especially autophagy. My goal is 120. I started at 191.2. I think I am/was insulin resistant. I am such a pastry girl. Croissants are my weakness. But I keep watching you to stay strong. THANK YOU! I want to reach my goal by December! Staying in ketosis as much as possible. I have a keto mojo and I check my glucose and ketons numerous times every day. I learn so much from you. THANK YOU so much!
Oh and btw I measured my ketons glucose before I broke my 40 hour fast it was 61mg/dl glucose (the lowest since I started 6 weeks ago) my ketons were 4.3 mmol/l (also the lowest) GKI 0.7
My measurements 1.5 hours after eating a generous egg white omelet with fresh mushrooms, green onions and about 3 cups of chopped green mixed salad without any dressing. I only used MCT oil to fry the omelet and mushrooms. I measured glucose 85 mg/dl ketons 5.0 mmol/L GKI 0.9
I am really happy about that. 😁 I have 4 HOUR EATING WINDOW now but unless I am hungry I won't eat until tomorrow at noon again. I like OMAD

IF / low carb / no carb for 5 yrs now ) Why in the 🌎🌍 would you eat a white only omelet ? You are not a baby 🐣 🐥🐥🐣
chicken ....All other predators who eat eggs
💕 💕 love 💕💕 the egg 🥚 YOLKS and go after them FIRST , ( Then they lap up the whites sometimes but often leave them & go for the next yolk ) egg yolks biologically contain the most compleat available ( 95 %)
protein on the 🌎🌍. Dr E mentions right here that fatty meat / fish / chicken are PREFERRED.He also did a video where he ate 100 eggs 🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚
in a week or ten days .He was fine , he did not drop dead from eggyolkitis ...
Keep the faith , you are , as I said , doing well .... remember nature knows best ....

I lost 36 pounds last year . Partly down to desire for change but I adopted better habits such as 10000 steps every working day. Eating more plant based foods such as salads/fresh veg and portion control I calculated I consuming around 1400 to 1500 cals per day. I avoided hyper processed foods such as Pringles, crisps, healthy snack bars and sweet biscuits.
I didnt go keto I did eat jacket poatoes but not chips, I did eat bread but only sourdough as a meal with eggs never with marmalade or as a snack. I made small incremental changes but was far from keto . I ate more cheese in ratio terms but not in totality compared with previously. I ate more eggs rather than cereal such as porridge and fruit (which I never added sugar to)
I found that in the Autumn of last year I had got a little complacent with my new habits and decided to check out interval fasting and ate within a 9 hour window out of 24 which worked brilliantly as long as I opted for only known healthy foods such as nuts 25 grams etc and ate eggs etc but I still continued to eat sourdough bread with eggs and potato /rice with main meals but keeping a check on portion size especially of carbs.
Success so far but I have a way to go yet.
Fortunately I have never had a pre diabetic blood test result so I will keep on track and look forward to day I achieve my goal of a healthy bmi. More important than ever as I am now in my 50’s
The common theme to success seems to be adopting healthy habits that effortlessly fit into your lifestyle and become instinctive and not a chore. Similar with exercise ……..dance if you love it, swim if you enjoy or if you love the great outdoors purchase a good pair of walking shoes and go for a regular walk, borrow your neighbours dog and offer to walk it if that helps a neighbour…….

It’s so hard when you’ve been eating it for 50 years. But with your lessons I understand so much more. I was trained as a nurse and learned all the wrong information. I've recently stopped snacking after my main meal, so now I'm OMAD. Since then, I've started researching IF and Keto, so now cutting the carbs.

One of the best overall videos I have seen on RUclips. I am 75 y/o female because of (a long story) I began listening to videos about keto. Then a friend told me about you. I was just an occasional listener until my spring allergies hit. This year after a day cleaning flower beds I woke up deaf the next morning. The ENT worked me in and my hearing loss was caused from seasonal allergies. With treatment my hearing cleared. 2 weeks and 1 day later I started spring cleanup again, next day I woke up with itchy, swollen black eye. One look in the mirror and that was the day I began keto. (Also more meds)My son and my nephew (3 yrs on keto) inspired me to take a look at keto. My decline in my overall health over the past 25 years made me want to give keto a try. 2 weeks on keto (began with 8/16) and combined with allergies I finally felt like getting back in my yard. The first video I watched that day was your how to begin keto and that is when I subscribed to your website. Here I am 4 month later. Still on keto and I am blessed, grateful, and thankful for you.

Hi people, for everyone that wants to lose a lot of weight I can recommend this:
    - Don't eat a lot of carbohydrates, check the nutrients on each product you buy, if it has over 5g / 100g carbs, don't buy it.
    - Exercise a little, even small things like yoga or walking once a week can make a difference
    - Do intermittent fasting, don't eat when you are not hungry. Eat ENOUGH during your eating window (especially fats and protein).
    - Never snack.
I've lost 77 pounds this way.
Honestly it's not that complicated, just requires a lot of willpower!
I will guarantee that this will work for you, if you stick with it.

I started to follow your advice early March 2021 and I stopped medication two months later because my blood sugar levels were almost normal. My HBA1 C has been below 6 for the padt several months. Thank you once again for your invaluable service 🙏🙏

Hi I am a doctor too and I love how you say very difficult things in very easy and understanding way. I started Intermittent fasting and I need to do it right because Iam older and have insulin resistance fatty liver and overweight. To many years attending people seated, no excercise is the reason why I need a good change!

Thank you for making it clear and taking away the frustration of failure with out an answer to why it hasn't been working. If I was closer I would come and take your training, but for now your RUclips videos has been a game changer - thank you and God bless you.

Amazing to find people on the same journey seeking knowledge, instead of being spoon fed by mainstream. Subbed and liked what I've seen/heard so far Doc. Much success and keep spreading the truth 💯

I started 18:6 IF at the beginning of April and slowly pushed closer to 20:4 with occasional OMAD. I try to keep my carbs below 50g. I’ve done two 45 hour fasts and I’m currently in the middle of a 96-120 hour fast, depending on how I feel at the 96 hour mark. I’ve lost 25 lbs and my skin seems to be tightening from the autophagy. Part of why I looked into IF was for weight loss, but also for the health benefits. I’m pretty healthy already, but I’ve had seborrhea dermatitis for the last 20 years and IF along with cutting out wheat flour and sugar has almost completely cleared it up. I’ve also encouraged my husband who has probably 100 lbs to lose to join me, and he’s lost 40 lbs in just under 2 months. We’ve been yo-yo dieters for a long time and I’m so thankful for your the knowledge you put out on why IF works and why fad diets don’t.

How long did it take to lose the 25 lbs? I need to do something 😓

    • @smhobbs29
      @smhobbs29 Год назад +6

@@Mel-tc7ku I started the beginning of April, so about 11 weeks so far. I probably would have lost it faster if I did 20g of carbs a day. I throw in a cheat meal on some Saturday nights too. I’ve found it very surprising that I’m not hungry most of the time and have to force myself to eat dinner most days. It’s definitely hard the second day though and I’m actually doing very well with not eating today. 6 pm will be 72 hours of not eating. I plan to do an extended fast once a season. I’m super excited though because I only have 5-10 lbs to lose. I gain a lot of weight in my legs, so I’m basing my goal off my thighs not rubbing together lol! I’ve done a WW type points diet on and off for probably the last 10 years and have always been confused on why I’d gain my weight back so quick.

@@Mel-tc7ku definitely try the intermittent fasting. I started with eating breakfast at 10am and dinner by 6pm. Probably did that a couple week before I switched to just lunch at 12 and dinner at 5 or 6. It wasn’t too hard for me because I’ve never been a big breakfast eater. If you can cut out snacking, especially after dinner, it gets easier each week to shorten your eating window. In the beginning I was more concerned about weight loss, now I’m more focused on getting some good autophagy for boosting my metabolism, immune system, some inflammation I’ve had, and the skin tightening benefits.

Switched to coconut flour, I don't count carbs. I've lost 56 pounds no major health issues. IF is definitely a lifestyle that's sustainable. Best wishes as you continue your journey...!!!!

After 70 days doing a keto + fasting lost loads of body fat and feel amazing. What's most amazing though is how much energy I now have and how I'm less hungry despite eating less. I started just doing keto. Then figured myself it made sence to shrink eating window so longer in ketosis. Without any effort went to OMAD. Last week switched to 36/12 but without trying ended up 44/4 and still less hungry than before when I was practically living on white bread. My friend asked me how long am I going to keep this going? I told if I ever fancy being hungry, fat, Ill, tired then I might think about stopping lol. It's hard to get over in word just how good you feel and how easy it is. Far easier than not doing it for sure.

I have been doing 18 hour fasting since 2019. I eat my two daily meals in a 6 hour period, from 8am-2pm, breakfast and lunch. I lost 20 lbs, I feel great, and my lipid panel is much better. Fasting is sustainable, you have more energy, and feel more healthy also. If I get hungry after 2pm, I eat a handful of pistachios or pecans and I get satisfied until the next day.

Thank you Dr. Ekberg - this was very helpful and informative. I started a Keto diet back in Nov. 2021. All my life up to this point I had been a carb addict - lots of cereal, oats, bread, pasta, etc. I'm 63 and now weigh 110 lbs at 5'5". I take an early morning brisk walk with my dog, and also do a Russian kettle bell workout 3 days a week, and then stretching and pilates on the other days. I feel better now than I did in my 30's. I used to be an avid runner, but could never keep my weight down because I was famished after a run and would load up on - you guessed it - carbs!!
