I'm sorry but it's not that simple because if I eat carbs with fat (like bread and butter) the fat blocks the insulin and the spike doesn't occur. It's not that easy. Intermittent fasting works for some people and doesn't for others, just like calories out and calories in. The video is certainly interesting, but the theory of weight loss cannot be simplified like this.

I've been counting calories on and off since 1973. Each time I dieted I lost weight, only to put it back on and at a higher level. I did this most years. By the end of last year I was prediabetic, with a heart condition, and on 6 medications, weighing in at 254lbs. I had always tried to do low fat, high fibre and exchanging saturated fat with PUFA margarine. I was ill from water on the lung. Then I read Robert Lustig's Metabloical, Jason Fung's Complete Guide to Fasting and Gary Taubes The Case for KETO. Since January I am down 44lbs to 15 stone, I have stopped 4 medications, and my A1C is back to normal. Kill the carbs before the carbs kill you.

My theroid was behind them. I also had serious stomach problems and I had gastroscopy. I needed therapy. Mastich capsules help but don't solve the problem.

Dr Eckberg. You hit the nail on the head. I am 58 now. But I remember until the age of 12 I was eating EVERY DAY my breakfast SOLELY with 7 grain bread and MAINLY with brown sugar, sometimes jam. NEVER meat and almost never cheese. I was VERY active that time. Driving every day many kilometres with my bike constantly at full speed. In school my teacher always complained why I was constantly hopping with my feet. And I was the lightest and strongest of my class. But when growing older I observed brainfog was slowly but gradually setting in until a point I observed that I was about 48 years old but I lost lots of my abilities and brainpower. I also lost my job back than. If it was not for realizing this in time I would certainly going downhill much more. After changing lifestyle I was stabilizing for few years. Sten, I owe you so much! I'm almost 59. I've battled with my weight all my life. I've always had an active lifestyle with plenty of excersize and tried following the SAD diet. M I blood pressure qas creeping up. I always felt I was borderline type 2, and avoided a lot of sweets and processed food because of the way I felt after I ate it. I never ate breakfast because it made me feel like a flat tire for the rest of the morning. I think these habits helped me get a good start.
I started watching your videos towards the end of May. By the beginning of September I have lost 42 pounds and I feel great! I am doing this with my doctor's supervision. (he is doing keto too so I didn't get any objections from him) My blood work taken in June was amazingly good. Fasting glucose 78. A1C 5.5. C Peptide .65. It was a little rough at first becoming fat adaptive, but that was short lived.

When I told them that it also depends on metabolism, hormones, and that 1000cal of carbs are not the same as 1000 cal of proteins, they all laughed at me and said I was dumb and I should just exercise more and eat less ( even if I was already eating 1000cal per day and no carbs ).

I cut out a bad habit and my weight drops but remains on the same level no matter how much extra exercise I do. I drop another bad habit and the same thing happens. When you remove the body's enemies, it tends to try to function correctly again. I've lost about 23 kg (~50lbs) this way, the majority of which were from changing eating habits.

The myth busting is very necessary. Individual actions/responses so crucial. I now feel empowered and not like fighting a losing battle. Thank you

You are a truly gifted teacher. This explanation is so clear and easy to follow. I love your new "white board" visuals. I truly appreciate that the presentation of this vital information is done in a non-judgmental manner and does not dump all the blame on the weaknesses and gluttony of the individual with insulin resistance. Thank you for explaining that there are scientific reasons for what I am experiencing and have been working hard to improve over the last year and going forward. This video confirms so much of what I have witnessed on my own journey and provides some new ideas and priorities to implement moving forward. Excellent work!

I ❤️❤️❤️ this video! I look forward to Friday morning bc I know you will be here!!
I had a ruptured colon last year, literally out of nowhere!! It was a tough six months, septic shock, colostomy, blah blah.
Today, at 60 yo I have never felt better in my life!! I bike 17-20 miles a day 5 x week, never eat before 1 pm, keto, 150 lbs, take care of my grandchildren a lot (4. STRESS 🤪) and…I look like ima have a baby in 3 months!😖😖I have a hernia! The Dr says if it doesn’t hurt that it is harmless🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ well, it doesn’t hurt but when I re-sign for my insurance this year I will take that “elective” surgery into a account and get this thing FIXED!!! Then, no more belly fat!🎉🎉😊

This is by far my most favorite and the most informative health related channel on RUclips. I've been taking Dr. Ekberg's information and putting it to use. So far I've lost fifty-two pounds and my blood pressure went from pre-hypertension to well below average. People ask me if I'm doing Keto or what diet I'm on and I tell them that it's not a diet. I'm just eating healthy things in moderation and I stop eating at eight at night and don't eat again until noon the following day. Nice to see that bike riding was suggested as I recently purchased a bike and ride ten miles everyday and twenty miles on Sunday. I get my heart rate up to about 115-120 and keep it there for about an hour which is how long it takes me to do ten miles. The difference that this lifestyle change has made is unbelievable. I've still got another twenty-five pounds to go. I just hope that I don't disappear but if I do don't look for me. ;) Thank you Dr. Ekberg and thank you for delivering your message so calmly. Just watching your videos calms the mind.

Thanks as always for your extremely helpful videos! Your approach to look at the body in a holistic way is so necessary. And with your style of teaching and explaining all the topics it's quit easy and also fun to try and reach this goal. And the motivation for that comes along the way as well. 🙂

Dr. Ekberg, as always, you are one of the outstanding communicators of a holistic approach to wellness. For me, I am very interested in the competitive athlete part of your background, as I played high level professional tennis in the 70's and 80's. The keto'ish approach with intermittent fasting has been part of what I have been doing for 7 years or so. I also regularly lift weights to maintain and increase my muscle mass. I teach tennis so I have have a great deal of light exercise. I row normally for 30 minutes at quite a stressful level and have switched to HIIT based your instruction. My stress levels are fairly low. AND I CARRY TOO HIGH A LEVEL OF BELLY FAT. I have about 11% body fat and almost all of it is in my gut. So in terms of the "last 5%" of the puzzle, I am rather lost. Certainly mindfulness is a crock. Certainly breathing's effect is negligible. I am not decrying this but I am trying to generate the last push. So, it seems that (1) perhaps monthly 3 day water fasts could be tried (2) lower weight, higher rep weight training sessions (3) for me the hardest one of all - low energy, long cardio sessions like (God forbid) walking or rowing at zero effort in order to keep the heartrate (yikes) low. Am I on the right track in my thinking? Thank you for all your work.
