Our bodies have adapted to live in environments where we don't have food, don't have scheduled feeding times, animals eat when they're hungry or require food to maintain bodyweight through periods of hibernation etc. the only statistic we should worry about is quality of food, and trying to stay in a state of caloric surplus so our bodies aren't metabolising themselves for energy (primarily during periods of growth) when you're fully grown I imagine you have a greater resilience to the downsides of caloric/nutritional deficits, as your body has mostly completed it's development stage.

My favorite part of this is the discussion on kids. I have raised two kiddos who are now teenagers. I was very particular about what they ate growing up and had no problem being the bad guy and saying no. As teenagers they do indulge in some of the junk due to trends and media influence but I proudly can see that those habits created from birth through toddlerhood follow through into the rest of their lives. Dont be afraid to say no to your kids because their future selves with thank you. I work in the med tech industry. We deal with fda all the time. I’d definitely agree there are some shady parts of the industry, but for the most part, the FDA looks at clinical studies, the FDA at they were constructed and their outcomes, and decide whether the claims made are consistent with the outcomes. However, there are lots of companies that will alter or finesse their claims to promote their product to the widest audience and rarely with consequences. I’ve also learned that not all hospitals or doctors are trustworthy. After all, we are all human and have our own biases and hidden agendas.

Little tricks like vinegar water aren’t going to do anything significant. You really want to change your life drastically? Go carnivore. Humans, no matter what mainstream reasoning and consensus says, evolved over the course of millions of years to eat a diet of basically exclusively meat. Eat beef and eggs as the vast majority of your diet, and cut out all carbs and sugar, and you will be as healthy as you can possibly be. And you can eat as much as you want, never ever have to starve yourself. There’ll be a million sources telling you what I’m saying isn’t true, but if you’re not a fool you’ll be able to do your own research and not be fooled by the lies. Good luck.

Without a doubt this woman helped save my life. I was on the brink of literally eating and drinking myself into an early grave. Once I had my sleep apnoea treatment started, I was able to have more energy and I instantly started to get off the sugars in my diet. Don't get me wrong, I still have a little chocolate every day and some sweet treats on the weekends, but only after eating fibre/protein, and I go for a walk afterwards.
Since last year, I've lost 35kg in weight - beaten back high blood pressure, diabetes, iron deficiency, and even got my lymphodeama really under control. Doing 12k steps minimum every day, working in a warehouse and I feel so much better. And I share Jesse's passion about these big concerns, and try to educate my fellows around me about this hidden danger.

It's great that you recognize that we are all accountable for what shows up in our bodies to get our attention, we don't just catch illnesses and disease never randomly just shows up for no reason. Everything that goes on in the body is representing the level of connection we have to our own unconditional self-love self-value and self-worth.
forgive yourself... because every one of us makes ourselves sick it doesn't come from an external thing or person, we are all accountable for what we choose to think.. which impacts our vibrational frequency, and how we choose to feel, and what we choose to put in our bodies. We are powerful empowered beings and doctors don't want us to know that because they need us dependent on their drugs which keep us in the system, big Pharma and government and media and marketing corporations are all in it together. And we're pretty much just fighting for our lives in an actual video game, especially going to a grocery store, we have to stay on the edges only, as we make our way around the store LOL
I stopped contributing to the BS in society decades ago when I started hearing there was such a thing as a flu season LOL who the hell invented the flu season if people wash their hands, got high quality good absorbable vitamin C and got in the Sun for vitamin D, and got balanced rest, there'd be no such thing as a flu season LOL nobody catches things from one another, and things don't just naturally show up in our body, it's a sign because it's trying to get us to pay attention to our childhood trauma or neglect and repressed emotions as well. You might like flows and forms.com as a resource to get to the emotional cause mama and the organ that is associated with that emotion, of any ailment❤ anything that attacks the woman the organs like the breasts or uterus area etc, means we are not balanced in our divine feminine, there's some emotional wounding or trauma in regards to a female figure, typically it's the mother.
doctors never make us well.. they don't know what root causes are.... instead they stifle and suppress, we are the only ones that heal ourselves, our bodies do the healing for us😊 as it is constantly trying to Keep Us Alive and healthy 24/7 but we interrupted with low vibrational inner self talk, negative thoughts, behaviors habits and old childhood programming that are stuck in our system, that need to be released

I am 66 years old - I learned I have type 2 diabetes a year ago - I cleaned out my cupboard of all food with sugar - every thing - started over and ate fiber first - eggs and sausage - sandwich apple peanuts for lunch - protein and broccoli for dinner - cut out coffee - drank only water and green tea - exercise 30 minutes every day - I actually reversed my diabetes - high blood pressures and lost weight in 4 months - now over a year later I am still losing weight slowly and my A1C became normal (board line pre diabetic) my doctor did not know what to think - my kids were proud and they started what I have done - I read so much and put this all together myself - I find it actually works for me - I also fast 16 hours and eat 8 hours

I'm confused by "ate fiber first - eggs and sausage". Animal protein has NO fiber. Eggs and sausage have NO fiber! Where's the "fiber first"? Is it an eggs and sausage sandwich? Of course removing sugar, drinking only water and green tea, and exercise every day are all very beneficial. Good job! :)

Thanks Glucose Goddess and Stephen for a very useful sharing...
Loved this podcast ... now I know why I eat the way I eat ... that's brilliant!
    What I learned :
    1) have a savoury breakfast
: something to create 4 hours of energy without food cravings
    2) a tablespoon (ie 2 caps full from the bottle) of any edible vinegar in a large glass of water 10 minutes before a meal (or vinegar in a starter salad/vegetable dish)
: the tummy enzymes slow down a little and the velocity of sucrose absorption into the blood slows
    3) Have a veggie starter
: the tummy gets lined with a protective coating which reduces the velocity of sucrose absorption
    4) Move for 10 minutes after eating
: calf crunches under a desk will work
: dance a little and have fun !
    : have a stroll
    5) The order of eating is veggies , protein, sweet things
: save that morning cookie for having as a sweet after the main meal
    6) "Clothes on carbs"
: have a slice of toast with something like avocado and not just by itself
: beans and rice mix reduce the velocity of sucrose in take
: mix grapes and cheese which is great to reduce sucrose velocity of absorption
    7) Between meals snacks
: have the snack with something else ... yogurt with the banana works
    8) Keep those sweet things to end the meal
    9) Have foods whole not too chopped up so your tummy gets to work well with fibre
    10) For parents then be the role model for the kids
: explain why the order of eating for is important
: whats going on with the steps (1) .. (9) ... its going in to your kids for their future

Weirdly they are interpreting sugar and insulin interactions - when in reality every cell in the body requires some quantity of glucose and that is the main thing; the liver can store roughly not more than 100 grams of glucose + some can go to muscles, that is the main bit of knowledge one need to know (apart from really ill people) so eat no more than 150 - 300 grams of carbs per day, perhaps occasionally going to low carb days on and off, and that's it, and avoid extra fats in the diet to be around +- 30gr per day that's it.

My husband and I are watching this and are amazed by the incredible insights we've gained. I first began my fasting journey after seeing your interview with Dr. Mindy Pelz, and now, this interview has been another game-changer. My husband, who is in his 50s, was deeply moved when you asked the Glucose Goddess to share stories of individuals following her advice. Hearing about the man in his 50s with type 2 diabetes gave us both so much hope.
It’s eye-opening to realize that some of the healthy foods we thought were helping him might actually be holding him back. Thank you for providing such valuable information and giving us the motivation to move forward. We’re excited to try these new hacks and make real progress.
Stephen, your podcast has grown so much since I first discovered it last year, and the impact you’re making is greater than you might realize. Note to self: No more orange juice! And of course, enjoy your carrot cakes in moderation. One of my fave desserts :)

I have zero chronic diseases, illnesses, mental health challenges, smooth transition into perimenopause. I have beautiful skin, thick shinny curly hair, and a lovely figure. I walk, do breathwork and gentle yoga. No makeup or chemical products for hair, skin and nails. My point, fruit is an important, nourishing and healthful food in my life. Fruit is not just sugar. It has a whole host of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants. I believe the fruit I eat supports my skin, hair and nail health. I support folks if no fruit works best for you. For me, it works.

Jessie’s take on fruits is 100% right for some people. Me, for example and I know it for a fact from CGM readings. & I am not even prediabetic. Some bodies just do not see any difference between drinking bog standard juice or coke full of added sugar and organic wild apple or heritage grapes, which have not gone botanical selection for centuries (you can get these in bug wine-countries), some bodies respond to fruit (eaten after meals, with fatty stuff, no combo & hack works basically!) as cellular poison that it is, sugar spikes in the blood are higher from a little apple or one apricot than from a glass of sugary syrupy drink with no fibre. No sugar and no starches AT ALL is the only way for some. Health & peace to all 🙏🏻❤️

Dr Berg had an interview with a man that had a CGM, he wanted to know what foods spiked his glucose. He also had a chart that showed how the number of diabetics has increased since the 1890's. The chart showed glucose intake stayed almost flat, what changed was the amount of hydrogenated oils increased since the 1890's, as margarine, Crisco, partly hydrogenated corn oil, sunflower oil, canola oil, "vegetable oil" poly-unsaturated oils. He increased olive oil real grass fed cow butter, and his glucose spikes were lower.

Sorry but there are many things where she's wrong, completely wrong. She's not a dietetician and often she is giving incomplete information. Best example, the study she talks often about the order of food, she always forget an important part, the timing between each part... About health, i would trust more TIm Spector than her. Several of her claims have been debunked by dieteticians, doctors, and other specialists. Not everything she's saying is wrong, but she's far from the best person to give information about health and nutrition.

Im an ecologist. The real problem is we dont go through famine. So animals will eat tons of fat and sugar in spring and summer, and even consume a lot of carbs through grains into the fall. But then winter comes, and they burn off their fat stores because there is no food. If you become more intuitive to your body and follow your natural rhythms, you might notice that appetite goes down in the winter as there is less light. The problem is we dont have winter like we would in nature. We dont run out of food, we dont get cold and have to shiver. If you want to be healthy you have to be natural. Eating local and in season is really the best way to live a healthy life. More fruits and veggies in spring and summer. Grains in the fall. Then fatty meat and root vegetables in winter.

to be healthy, you do have to be natural but to what extent. I don't think eating grains or vegetables is healthy no matter who you are. Also, what makes you think we need to shiver to be healthy? Even if it was the case, is the stress from the cold really worth the supposed benefits?

Since I reduced sugar, cut out alcohol, increased fiber to 25 g/day, sleep to 7-8 hours/per day and 30 minutes of exercise per day ( increase heart rate), my hot flashes, brain fog, anxiety and insomnia are gone.

My son never ate sugar sweets candy etc. I made all his baby food from scratch and our deserts were always fruit and natural foods. He’s 9 now and is very mellow good natured and usually only has moments if he’s over tired or hungry. He also likes veggies and asks for them when he’s hungry. My daughter is obsessed with sweets cereals all the awful stuff. She does love steak but getting her to eat veggies turns into war. She is the complete opposite of her brother behavior wise and ive been noticing the difference much more lately. So I REALLY appreciate all this information. Even the part pertaining to to children. Doesn’t matter if you guys have any of your own. You don’t have to have your own to understand that children are also susceptible to toxic food habits. I am not sure exactly how I became GD with my second pregnancy. I thought I ate healthy. Other than I can theorize my body wasn’t working properly because I was very low in D, iron, B6. I've noticed my body does best with mostly meat and eggs and a little vegetables if I feel like it. I've also like pickled things like pickled cucumbers and pickled jalapenos. Every person reacts to food differently so it might be something in those vegetables that your daughter's body doesn't agree with. As for meat and eggs, our ancestors have always been eating those before even farming, it's nutritious and tasty. I'm 77, and I would like her to come back at my age and see where she's at. So many of these health gurus are relatively young women. Get through life, loss, menopause, and then report.
The reality is there is just no one way. Every body is different. There are generalities - don't eat rubbish, hydrate, don't o/d on sugar. But what suits people at different ages, of different genders, in different climates, of different cultures are all different. Living in sub-Saharan Africa, the populace don't obsess about glucose or grapes!!

Western world is plagued with pesticide and poisonous food in microdoses. This information is relevant to us. As a Moroccan, we have a lot of these “hacks” implemented in our culture and we drink green tea daily after meals. We also have grapes with seeds, etc. We don’t have issues with our bodies until your age. We realize too late that our habits were not healthy. In the west, we feel these symptoms earlier on due to the poisonous micro dosing. But you have a choice to live your life as you see fit. This information is useful at any age and at any location.

I'm 57 and I've known that sugar was a problem for me since my late teens/early 20s. It took my health to crash 15 years ago to start me on a journey to find out what was wrong with my diet and today I'm still tweaking and learning.
A long winded way of agreeing with you 🙂

      5. fiber intake first: veggies, proteins & fats, starches and sugars
      6. Clothes on carbs
      7. Savory snacks between meals
      8. Eat sweets as a dessert at end of a meal and never on an empty stomach.
      9. Eat fruit whole, not dried, juiced, or smoothied.
      idk what 10 was lol

1: Eat food in the right order: veggies first, protein second and carbs at the end. Eating fibers first slows down the absorption of carbs and therefore decreases the likelihood of a glucose spike.
2: Add a green starter to all your meals: The goal is to include more fiber in your meals which prevents a glucose spike.
3: Stop counting calories: Foods that are high in glucose could be low in calories and food high in calories could be low in carb but more fulfilling and beneficial for our body. For example a donut and cup of yogurt both contain 150 calories but the donut will cause a glucose spike but the yogurt will not because of the protein and fat content.
4: Flatten your breakfast curve: cereal with milk, fruit smoothie, muesli and fruit juice all cause a big glucose spike.A good breakfast that won't cause a glucose spike is usually savory and contains a good amount of fiber, fat, protein and optional starch and fruit. Our body is very sensitive to glucose following breakfast because it has been in a fasting state for a long time. Also, given how well maintained the glucose spike was after breakfast- our body is better able to manage the blood glucose level for the rest of the day. See image for examples.
5: All types of sugar are the same: Basically there is no difference between maple syrup, honey and white or brown sugar. One is not healthier than the other when it comes to causing glucose spikes. The best types of sweeteners that have no side effects on glucose and insulin levels are: Allulose, monk fruit sweetener, stevia (pure stevia extract), erythritol. Artificial sweeteners recommended to avoid are aspartame, maltitol., sucralose, xylitol, acesulfame-k.
6: Pick a dessert over a sweet snack: Taking a sweet snack over an empty stomach causes glucose spikes. If you are craving something sweet, take it after a meal as a dessert.
7: Reach for vinegar before you eat: Taking 1 tablespoon of vinegar in a tall glass of water taken before the meal (with a straw to avoid causing problems with tooth enamel) decreases the glucose spike. The acetic acid in vinegar temporarily deactivates alpha-amylase which is an enzyme that turns food into glucose in our body. Additionally, acetic acid encourages our muscle to take glucose faster than the bloodstream without releasing additional insulin.
8: After you eat, move: Doing a 20 minutes exercise within 70 minutes after a meal is shown to reduce glucose spikes.
9: If you have to snack, go savory: Most popular snacks like potato chips, granola bars etc are carb heavy and cause a glucose spike when taken as a snack. See the attached image for savory snack suggestions.
10: Put some clothes on the carb: When you have to get something on the go, choose meals that combine starches/ sugars with fat, protein and fiber. Basically putting some clothes on the carb and not taking them alone. Example, some apple/ pear with nut butter.

    * on sweet foods, we were NOT allowed them in my house. No juice no soft drinks lollies NOTHING. If we got a snack it would be a bag of crisps. I am super grateful to my mum for this. I never ever had a weight problem as I simply cannot tolerate sweet foods. I am 56 and 168 cm weight 55 kilograms. It is because our mother was so tough when we were kids and so this was normalised to eat well. You need to be strong and even if your kids complain now they will thank you when they are 56!!!!

Great conversation. A cautionary word for some listeners: if your diet and lifestyle is already very good, these hacks are not a license to eat chocolate cake. I"m sure a lot of people are helped. I am not one of them. After a couple of weeks of adding a few desserts AND the hacks, I was up about 5 lb. I really hate drinking vinegar water and I wonder if eating a dill pickle or two before the main meal wouldnt accomplish two of the hacks?
Im going to keep these hacks in mind moving forward, but NOT add desserts. I am 66 years old and in good health. I just want to continue to enjoy good health as long as possible. My main goals are avoiding dementia and sarcopenia.
