The reason why I have enjoyed this podcast so much is that it is not a documentary but real conversations about passion for a variety of topics, it does not always have to be the greatest or brightest that bring the best value... genuine humans doing their best - even if I don't like them I give them a listen because of your efforts and what The Diary Of A CEO represents.
I enjoyed this interview. Very well done. I do have a few questions... What is the name of the book? Walter's last name is??? Where is the book published?
You guys value influence too much. ppl easily respect him without looking at the full picture. That guy was born rich and all he did was steal and devalue their achievements. All the interviewer said are vague shallow information that look smart if you shut ur brain off.
A few weeks ago I was traveling in the U.S. my first flight was delayed by 6 hours, when I finally arrived in Houston, I went & sat in the United lounge to wait for my newly booked connection, I took out the book that I was reading & began to flick through. It wasn't 5 minutes later when the legendary author Walter Isaacson himself came and sat opposite to me. Completely lost for words, I showed him that I was reading his latest book about Elon Musk, and he smiled & grabbed a pen out of his pocket and proceeded to sign my copy. A very kind person, even noticed that I had purchased it over in the U.K! It was only a couple of weeks ago that I was traveling around Florence, Italy after reading & getting inspired by one of his previous books that documented the life of Leonardo Da Vinci. Having also listened to countless hours of lectures & public Q&As lead by Walter Isaacson, meeting him made my day. If it wasn't for that 6 hour delay, I would have never bumped into him. The world works in funny ways sometimes! @thediaryofaceo
I am currently reading the book and have already read the biography of Steve Jobs. I am an Arab, Muslim woman, teacher and educator. I find it very inspiring to read biographies of illustrious personalities who mark the course of events in human life, and I highly recommend reading biographies to my students. The fact that we read biographies of people from other cultures is capable of bringing people together, of cultivating tolerance and empathy towards difference and above all of not breaking down others and giving them the benefit of the doubt when they makes mistakes and gives him the chance to reinvent himself and improve. Thanks to the authors of the channel. I'm subscribing right away!
You should read only one book the word of God, don't you want to know how to live in this short thing we call life in true happiness and peace of mind. Making your self a better man day by day. And when its appointed onto you to die, don't you want to stand before the creator the one true God, and be judged worthy to enter into His happiness and peace that passes all understanding, and know all things and be bathed in His light , being changed in the spirit never hungry, never sick and its forever 10,000 years from now still giving Him the Glory and praise for allowing you into His mighty kingdom. Or be cast out into utter darkness, filled with pain, hunger, hopelessness, alone forever and ever 10,000 years from now and knowing you had the chance to chose, but you thought you knew better. I'm not willing to take that chance to many things add up in my mind and life journey to understand that just like a watch maker makes a watch out of 1900 pieces I to was created by a mighty one, as everything in this world was made by Him. I chose to be with the Alpha the Omega, the beginning and the end of all things seen and unseen. There is no other life out in the cosmos its just us soles here on earth in the middle of the galaxy the milky way, there are no aliens those are demons anyway. Don't be fooled, man didn't create himself, the big bang is the theory of man, just like evolution what we crawled out of the primordial soup of an ocean and evolved into an ape and kept evolving until we turned into a human. That takes more faith than to believe that God created us, because He wanted to fellowship with us and of course be worshipped by us at the same time. I have no problem bowing down to Him in awe , thanks and the fear of His power. But most of all chosen me to be chosen that He pulled back the Vail that was over my eyes so that I could see that He has been patiently waiting for all to choose Him to believe that I needed to be saved. That the way I was living my life was not the true way, but was the highway of destruction and many are on it, but He showed me the path and there are few who believe and follow that patch which leads to salvation, we will know all things and be in His presences for eternity 10,000 years from now because my sole never dies. But not everyone will go to Heaven His kingdom , they will be turned away into the darkness for eternity, alone, in pain, never satisfied , and knowing you had a chance , its not going to be like Vegas thats for sure. Thank you Lord, King of Kings. For leaving your words of wisdom the way out of this mess. I pray He comes in my lifetime, I sick by what I see.

I homeschool him even though he’s learned how to read, edit videos, makes music, does math in his head because he hates writing. I am deeply grateful for this interview. It has calmed my nervous system in many ways. Thank you 🙏🏼 incredible how This interview is the answer to a prayer🎖️
My husband was told as a child that it was not worth his time coming to school as he hating writing, was terrible at English, French, Geography and History and didnt have any success writing essays etc..(no one thought about dyslexia in those days!) then he discovered maths and physics which were the only subjects he was good at. Fast forward a few decades, he is semi retired now but has been a professor at university for much of his life, written several books on his subject, written hundreds of scientific papers, headed his own department, and several other departments and committees etc, worked in conjunction with NASA and other international scientific companies and organisations and is still working on new projects now… if your son has the capability (and it sounds like he does) then with hard work and dedication he can reach for the moon… you have done the best thing by home schooling him too… keep him away from the woke mind virus so he can think for himself. Good luck to both of you :)

I love the way Elon distances himself from perfection. This means a lot to me. Imagine any famous rich you know having the guts to allow his biographer to say that he thinks he is bipolar, overweight or lives in a 2 room house. Elon is a legend, but the cool factor here is that he does not make it an issue! Elon, greetings from Mykonos Greece, you know you are always welcomed here!
@@LWalker-xu3gpyup, for some reason I naturally took a liking to him in a comfortable sense. Now I know why why have similarities of of upbringing and the way we were treated…
You really think Elon is watching this😂.Just being on the spectrum I would say no because he doesn’t are but I could be wrong. I have a son on spectrum and he just doesn’t think this way.mindyou he’s not a quadrillionare but generally human behavior and what people think of him isn’t important?
This is FASCINATING. I was swallowed by this episode. The level of integrity that this man has is remarkable. Considering how much he knows. Stunning interview.
Hadn't heard of Walter before this, but this was one of your most fascinating, compelling episodes. Walter sharing his experience here is an absolute gift.
I remember some years back watching an interview with Elon on 60 Minutes Australia, and the reporter commented that some Australians can't afford to pay their power bill because it's so expensive. He was shocked and asked for clarification and confirmation. When given it, he said he didn't realize that, and his lip started to quiver, and he said "we'll work harder". A lesson IMO for those other billionaires with their fleets of superyachts to relax on.
I like your comment Elon is an Carrington human being who loves his children dearly and has feelings. He never ask others to work harder then himself. Loves companionship and hared work ethic.
I remember that too also in in hindsight I realized he was at a tough spot himself close to bankruptcy with Tesla in 2018 I think. He was very stressed and that was also the last straw that broke the camel's back.
Well, yes, he is right, work harder! What do you think I haven't gone through that? At first I was like you, resentful, "the government," the rich people dont care" but I realized that I need to make more money, of course Musk is correct but that's not the whole answer, vote for the right people who CAN make the energy cheaper and hold them accountable... but NO, the lazy people like to do nothing about anything, only be critical and have uninformed opinions, which they demand to be heard. Elon Musk is 100% correct, work more, educate more yourself, find other ways, vote correctly.
Walter Isaacson is such a hero of mine. His book on Steve Jobs literally inspired me as a teenager to pick my degree. Brilliant writer and great to see him explain his writing process.
It's very different to 'not coddle' over children, compared with not showing them enough love and positive attention. There is a very fine balance to be had there.
May I be a “grammar nazi” for the sole purpose of teaching you? There’s only one mistake. Perhaps this is not your native language &/or you appreciate learning. I mean absolutely no disrespect, & I’m aware this may be highly annoying if you don’t appreciate learning. Hahahah OK, great! Thanks! You should have an exclamation point after “Steven has done”. That’s a complete thought & should not be continued with a comma. Also, I completely agree with you! That is all. 😊
.I’m a 60yr old mediocre entrepreneur. I have watched many of your videos, and commented on a few. Also I have been religious in recommending your channel as I feel you ask the “greatest questions that most interviewers would miss”. I bumped into my sober (ex 365/24 Irish Drunk) Dad at Leicester M1 rest area. He apologized for my childhood.(he was looking for forgiveness) I told him he had nothing to apologize for. “Without you being you, I would not be me. And although I’m not perfect, I love me”. I’m not perfect… but I am the perfect me. The childhood is an incubator.and a comfortable childhood does not awaken things that a rough childhood awakens.

Wow, this guy is different. He is smiling alot throughout the interview. He shines. He obviously stays young and inquisitive with all his adventures. He had an interesting life - his story telling is fantastic.
Just listened to the audiobook after watching this pod, book is fantastic, well written & narrated and exceptionally researched & very non-biased which surprised me
I disagree with his opinion regarding twitter….perhaps it’s his ability to separate out emotion that makes him more capable of standing for truth…..I love that Elon is calling out people who pretend to be doing good and are actually doing evil. He’s a gift to our society in a day and age where people are caving in to bullies instead of standing up for what we truly believe. We should ALL have the chance to speak and be heard and the censorship has gone beyond acceptable and damaging in fact to our country
Absolutely correct!! Elon Musk purchasing twitter “x” was the most important circuit breaker the unchallenged avalanche of the left woke Marxist. He through X levels the playing field and gives hope to conservatives that you can speak and be heard …. The guest completely misread Elons ethos of building a better humanity… Cheers
Doesn’t matter right or left I love Elon because he very transparent and standing up for free speech, and very smart but yet dumb not knowing where we came from Lack’s wisdom on that Which is the most important thing in life Knowing God created us all
I've watched several interviews with Walter in the last 6 months and this is the best one. A testament to your ability to ask fantastic questions, Steven. Keep it going!
Steven, you don’t have to ask people to subscribe anymore. Your content is good enough you people will subscribe without you asking. Trust the work you are putting out.
Ask and you shall receive. It has nothing to do with doubting the quality and value of his content but rather, he wants to continue growing and improving (as we should) and its his way of giving back and rewarding the loyalty of his subscribers. I find that both beautiful and inspiring. He asked, I subscribed.
All RUclipsrs have to put ask people to do that in their videos because there’s always newcomers to the channel that need to be reminded to subscribe. Just let it be.
Great job on writers part, commuting to follow Elon for 2 years, I appreciate that. And also the writer seems like a well rounded person with self awareness.
We are so thankful he took that platform from their control. Thank God for Elon for being a REAL HUMAN an seeing whats going on an taking a stance of being on the RIGHT side of history for us
Really?! Your first instinct is fawning? Americans are weird. Gotta fawn over someone. If it’s not Elon it’s Walter. Pathetic. Ever consider Walter is CIA and in the biz of myth-making? You might want to do that.
@@Stefanburakovexactly. This whole story is ridiculous. A godless people need these myths. Walter is likely CIA and in the biz of myth making. Americans need idols. Because they are Godless.
fantastic interview. After reading his Steve Jobs biography, i’ve been a huge Isaacson fan. History belongs to the storytellers and this man is able to capture individual stories like no other
I am nearly finished with Walter Isaacson's book (audio book) on Elon Musk. It is quite fascinating, delving in on what Musk has gone through in his life: details on his childhood, relationships + family, multiple companies he's successfully built and others that failed, his way of thinking, drive, demons, passion, and much more. The book is 20 hours long and I have about 2 hours left- and at times it can feel grueling, extremely technical, but wildly detailed. However I highly appreciate the deep inside look in one of the most innovative and intelligent man in our time today. If you're an engineer, have a technical inclination, or are simply curious about Musk's unique mind, I think you'd enjoy it. Also Isaacson is a great author and story teller, and I enjoyed his perspective. Thank you Steven for the interview!

Maybe Stephen’s most significant and fantastic interview of all time. Significant because those of us who follow Stephen know how much he wants to meet and engage with Elon Musk. This was arguably the next best thing. And Isaacson does not disappoint. Equally interesting was Isaacson’s clear interest in Stephen and knowledge of the podcast (and Stephen’s life). I know this is a very “meta” comment, and the interview itself was, as always, exceptional, but it was also an incredible milestone. I’d bet anyone that Stephen is now working the Isaacson connection to help land that “dream” interview - Walter Musk. Go get him, Stephen!
Seriously?! Fawning? On my phone this morning: an interview with Walter Isaacson talking about his book on Elon Musk. I do not believe in Elon Musk. Why is there so much PR for this guy? I think he's a construct. He's a myth made for idol worship. Everything is to create an audience that "follows" him and adores him. That's who we are. Godless people who are easily persuaded by public relations. I am a cynic. Granted. But Walter Isaacson ... he seems like CIA. His job is to write books that consolidate memory. I resent him. But Americans lap it up. Pathetic.
Now I really have to get Walter Isaacson's bio of Elon Musk. He explained so well describing Elon Musk so vividly and honestly and sincerely, the character of a rather complexed, difficult to understand human being, but a person who I think needs his sole nurtured and his assurance of being admired and liked by all. I really enjoyed listening to this so interesting conversation with Stephen, and Walter Isaacson❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you
The interview was enlightening, Walter Isaacson is so patient and kind in his thoughts of others. It's a tribute to his deep understanding of others and the world. Thank you for bringing this conversation to my attention.
Walter, I don't agree with your politics, but I love your exhaustive research style, implacably walking in the footsteps of your subjects to know them with an intimacy that cannot be obtained through a few arms length interviews. It's a seldom employed technique, possibly unique to you among contemporary biographers. I also deeply respect your view about the invaluable societal role the story teller plays in consolidating and retransmitting human virtues to succeeding generations After listening to this fascinating interview, I eagerly look forward to reading your Musk saga.
I love Walter Isaacson's work. We get so many insights from other peoples lives. A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one. - George RR Martin
The abuse of people on the spectrum over the years has been shocking. The attitudes to autism and towards my own autistic child whilst he was growing up, were diabolical. His own grandmother wanted to put him in an institution and forget about him, because he was "different" and she wanted to keep him secret from others. That didn't happen, I sheltered him from the abuse as best I can, encouraged him, supported him and now he's in a highly responsible job with great prospects and a great team under him. My mother would have had him locked away, licking windows. Elon will have endured far worse. I'm in the first few minutes of the podcast..... I know I will find it emotionally challenging to hear of Elons life, I know his family were cruel and I can't bear to think of anyone on the spectrum who is treated badly. I think I will have to listen a few minutes at a time. Thanks for the thoughtful guests Steven. ❤ Yes I'm subscribed and notified.
Good for you. What we call the autistic are people with a special interface to consciousness who see the world in different and unique ways. I’m willing to bet a significant number through human history of those who advanced human knowledge and achievement would today be diagnosed as autistic. Society wants the easily understandable behavior of the average and frequently treats those with special gifts badly.
@mshoneylovebaby I don't think Angel comes into it. Whatever comes along your way you just have to deal with it as best you can, and when you sit back one day to draw breath, you realise that you are dealing with something that's been a challenge, but you stepped up to that challenge without thinking. Maybe you did a good job, but you tried your best. He's a bit older now, and loves to travel, yet at age 16 I put him on a bus alone for the first time, had him met at the other end, likewise a train. Now he goes all over Europe alone. Plans all his tickets, journeys and hostels himself. I'm so glad he has the confidence to do so.
It may not be the intention of this particular podcast but it just gave me my own eureka moment. Thank you for having this conversation. Very inspiring and enlightening. KNOW THYSELF and stick to it. Nobody has the right or power to change anybody. Every type of personality is what makes this world works. No one is better than the other. Diversity is its strength. ❤
Wow what a fascinating guy! I love that he's able to see so many different pov's -- not critical. Seems really good at understanding people without letting his emotions get in the way. It even sounded a bit like Steven was trying to get him to say something bad about Elon and he was so respectable.
Walter is a true biographer. He without thought would mention little details about Steven throughout the interview which indicates he did a ton of research on Steven too. 🙏🏽✨🧡
As he mentioned, he would follow the subject of his biography for 2 years. Of course, he said Jobs would let him be nearby 1 week out of a month & Elon would allow Walter to be nearby 2-3 weeks in a month.
Steven's interview style delving into Elon Musk's childhood experiences was masterful👏👏His poignant questions navigated the depths of Musk's past, unraveling a compelling narrative!
Another fascinating interview. I*m going to get his book on Musk. We already have his book about Jobs so I will have to read that too. I really like this man. He knows himself and is an excellent role model for the importance of that. I like his approach to leadership too. Somebody needs to write his biography! Interesting know he was the head of CNN, too. I miss his leadership there.
It's the first time I've spend over a biographer interview. It's all because of one person Elon Musk. My curiosity towards his personal lives is now fulfilled after this interview. Thankyou so much for sharing your experience with the most complex personality and developer of our generation. I choose to empathize not to judge. He's my inspiration indeed.
3:08 Steven, you have more than fulfilled your promise to us, your followers! I think the the podcast, the invitees and the topics discussed are absolutely magnificent! Thank you.
Walter Isaacson's own story is very interesting....would love to hear more about him...what he shared of his media experience was great....Fantastic interview thanks ❤❤❤
Walter dismisses the core change of Elon’s understanding of politics. We who are not liberals do not label as conspiracies the take over of children’s minds, or Fauci’s role- including his 2013 patent ownership- of SARS Cvid 19- in killing people, stunting education, and distracting from election fraud. That’s why he bought Twitter. He saw the silencing of free speech. And he doesn’t understand autism spectrum- can’t stop and smell roses. Buying a yacht is Walter’s idea of balance- it is actually boring. Elon has good traits and bad traits- 🤮 So does everyone.

He's our humanitys (think) "out of the box" Rocket Man! I really hope he will have a long lasting flying career. What a living symbol of hardship and revange on life. Nothing different could have accomplished anything similiar. I wish him health and prosperity!
I was diagnosed with auadhd later in life, I was also heavily traumatized by narcissistic abuse, I was diagnosed with cptsd, pba and bpd. Meds never helped me until I found a med called nudexta that helps with the emotional incontinence, I didn't start laughing and crying uncontrollably until after a bad head injury tho. the things he said about musk feels like I'm looking in a fractal mirror. I think when immersed in abuse your whole life, its hard to find peace. like people get addicted to the chaos of their mind and they don't settle down which leads to the emotional exhaustion that I think is often labeled as bipolar. They way I hyper focus on my art reminds me of the way you speak of his attention to detail. I think its wildly paradoxical the awareness our country has for mental health. Most of our idols and most prominent leaders are lead subconsciously by their past and their attachment theory. and the ways in which our younger years form our frameworks later in life. I have a lot of empathy for musk because I can relate to melting down modes, or apathetic modes. I think it all comes down to attachment theory and how personalities affect each other. His dad was cold and that I think still it pushes musk to validate himself with addition to overworking and musk doesn't have the capacity to slow down and feel the muck. Also probably why he expects a lot of his employees. Perfectionism is also a way to cope with having a NPD parent. A lot of times autistic people are affected by cognitive dissonance at a deeper rate because of the way autistic people are inherently seemly strong with a moral compass and hyper vigilance. Reiki and dance help me slow down and reach calming states and for a long time I did not realise how much my art was my resting space in a world of chaos. It breaks my heart he feels so hurt by his daughter. What a humanizing story of a man who is commonly demonized or misunderstood.

I heard about Elon when a bunch of kids went to visit a cavern in Thailand and got stuck by an unexpected flood, as I remember it. Days have scrolled down but nobody could rescue the boys and their teacher. However, in the US, Elon organised some plan to try that rescue in Thailand. In the US the Media, and in other Countries, were rejoicing out of the failed attempt., the Mediocres were happy because the operation didn’t work as previewed. That episode put Elon into my❤
He forced his engineers to build a dumbass submarine which couldn’t even remotely fit in the caves. Then he defamed the guy who actually saved the children for calling him out. He’s a narcissistic POS who only cares about looking good
He also called one of the teachers a pedo. when the teacher rightly called him out on using the situation for his own publicity. with a submarine that wasn't going to work.
I scrolled through the comments and could've given two thumbs up to 95 percent. It's the second time I watched this one, and there will probably be a third - an excellent educational journey for anyone. I wish all schools would make these sorts of discussions available to their students, whatever their age. But it's valuable even to old folks like me who lived through the history discussed. It gives you perspective. Well Done!
This is a fantastic interview. I’m definitely going to look for Walter’s other books. I hope someday you are able to interview Elon yourself. Thanks for always asking interesting and deep questions.
"I think Musk sees himself on the same trajectory as Steve Jobs." If we're being honest, his trajectory is more impressive than anyone else's, especially since 2005-ish.
Disagree with this. Steve Jobs literally changed the world by leading the way to put a powerful computer in the hands of most of the citizens of the world hidden-in-plain-sight as a 'smart phone'. China's electric cars are lightyears ahead of Tesla to the point where you can be in the equivalent of Times Square with huge intersections in just one city of over 30 million people and the loudest sounds are people talking. Every foreigner who visits China comments on this discovery. Their cars are all voice directed: turning them on, locking, rolling down a window, heated seats in the *back* not just the front and brand new for half the cost of used non-electric cars in the U.S. China has literally landed people on the BACK side of the moon *twice*, something no country has ever done. Achievements like these are suppressed because the Western world wants to demonize China and enable ignorance as opposed to celebrating human kind accomplishments. Making it to Mars (if and when) and polluting the magnetosphere doesn't improve humanity nor does it restore Earth's natural systems which he from which he is exploiting resources-systems and resources humans desperately need to respect and enable them to thrive by getting ecosystem services healthy for all living beings to use without pollution or ecosystem imbalance to the point of not being functional or worse.

I enjoy hearing elon talk, how he considers the questions before answering, it's like he's actually listening, which is quite rare these days. There's just a certain something about him so i watch him with a lot of curiosity and interest
Not a fan of Elon Musk BUT this is one of the finest interview podcasts Steve has ever done. Walter Isaacson was absolutely brilliant, insightful, & well informed. His comments were eye-opening to say the least. I’d like to read a biography of Isaacson himself!!
Both Jobs and Musk will go down as two of the top 10 geniuses in US history. I wouldn’t want to directly work with either of them. Musk is the first industrialist that ever started two different billion dollar businesses. He’s definitely the top industrialist in US history. Buying Twitter was definitely an emotional thing. He hates bullies. Now, we know that the US government was using Twitter to censor citizens and to manipulate and control a narrative. He’s the most powerful advocate for freedom of speech.
Not even half way through. Brilliant episode, amazing guest. We have too many regulators, not enough risk takers. Such an accurate observation, so succinctly put. Love it. Already one if my favourite episodes
Yes risk is fine if any negative consequences will only affect yourself. Elon could take risks and cut off those servers in an instant - they belonged to him. Had an employee done that and their system went down, they would be sacked. Elon is definitely a forward thinking doer. It’s only because of people like him that we do move forward. Elon works on logic, not emotion so unrelatable to many.
I’d be so interested to hear what Walter Isaacson has to say about what Elon Musk’s mission is now, regarding his involvement with politics, and Donald Trump
As a long time listener and subscriber. Please don't change to a documentary format, I really enjoy the one to one style. I understand that there might be a need for Stephen to have time for other things and not be able to spend as much time on these pods, but I think a change of presenter works better than a change of format.
Love this interview because the interviewer and interviewee both have the background of running a company. I learned what I was beginning to realize about human intelligence and a having a more engineer minded approach. It seems like the world is hard on these type of thinkers in general, and we all should learn to challenge those rule driven aspects to life. Also aware of trials men have to go through as "different" thinkers, and also men who stand out and have fathers who make them suffer in difficult ways. It's interesting that Musk suffers from some mental illnesses, and inspirational the way he uses his loneliness in childhood to understand and yearn for family, and just goes with it, may not know why. There is a lot there for hope moving forward in our current difficult state. Really impressed.
He’s probably in autistic spectrum but luckily he turned into a brilliant entrepreneur because he is smart. If you follow other stories, one may turn to be a killer. We should be able to recognize them and help them. Most often they are unhappy. Most often they were bullied.
I think what we term mental illness isn't illness. It's uniqueness. Not everyone comes from same mould. He just looks able to dissociate...with focus...all brain boxes do that maybe. Time out of normal schools Foster genius maybe.
Do you ever think “this is myth making?” I do. I take it with a grain of salt. Notice all of the gurus have “schtick.” I think they all are created for exactly this: idol worship. And Americans are happy to comply.
Thank you Steve and Walter for this, yet another, revealing look at some of today's best, well known great enterpreneurs! I totally love it - from start to finish!!! 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Very nice , I have a daughter on the spectrum and is clear that the things that makes most people happy is not the same for them , Elon is a gift to humanity no matter what.
As a South African I feel so proud that I belong to a country that produced a man of his calibre! I only wish the world we live in was not the way it is because otherwise he would not only have been the great businessman and scientist that he is for our country, he would have been the head of state of our beautiful country as well 54:41 without having to contest the position with anybody!
Really ? How has he made life for humans better ? Elon , what has he done for mankind that's so riveting ? Builds rockets to go pick up rocks in outer space. Create AI that will end up killing us probably. I'd like to give him back, if you don't mind. Thanks !!
You can be proud of Elon, but you can't be proud of the losers who replied before me, or the political M0HS-&!#$ (read upside down) that South Africa has become.
This is for me is definitely one of the most insightful episodes I have listened to on this podcast. This alongside the episode with Damon Dash .. I couldn't recover from the insights I gleaned listening to that episode for weeks and weeks. I wish Elon would come on this podcast. Talking about gifts to humanity this podcast is definitely a gift to humanity. I think I would be grateful to Steve and his team for the rest of my life for how much this podcast has elevated my mind. It's literarily mad!
I have not finished watching had to pause and say thank you Steven for the insightful podcast it has really helped me improve on my life from my diet to mental health. The guests you interview are phenomenal I can’t even imagine how much it cost to have a chat with them. Thank you for chasing your dreams and passion. I am truly inspired to be great.❤
Walter Isaacson is the king of biographies most certainly , i love his work including his most recent work Elon Musk. your guests are very fascinating , i dont miss a single episode.
He truly loves his daughter, in his own sad and certainly flawed way, but it shines through in these stories. Wow. That's the biggest takeaway. How much he understands pain in the loss of approval and love, be it from his daughter or his father. No doubt his biggest "failure" would be that of being unable to bridge his relationship with any of his children. That pain also drove him to be successful, and drives him still.
I love that you aren’t afraid to ask someone what they mean. I’m not sure if you are just doing it so the viewer can better understand or because you’re not sure what the word he used means but I really appreciate that you aren’t afraid to ask. Some people would just nod their head and act like they understood. I certainly had no clue what he meant as that was my first time hearing that word so I am thankful you asked for me. As a side note he said that the iPhone is so simple anyone can pick it up and figure it out without a manual and that has not been my experience. When I switched from pc to Mac I was so stressed. I couldn’t figure out the buttons, couldn’t screenshot, couldn’t left click, etc. I had to have someone teach me. The same thing happened when I switched from a standard phone to an iPhone. I had to have someone show me every button and feature because I was completely clueless. Even touching my moms new iPhone (she has the 13 and I have the 8) I get confused because there is no home button anymore so I no longer know how to double click home to swipe up or how to screenshot, etc. every time they change something I get blindsided. It’s not the easiest product to work with but I get even more frustrated and confused when I try to switch to android or windows. Once you make the shift it’s not worth the annoyance to switch back. That’s why I have so many apple products. It’s not because it’s the best brand or the most cost effective but it’s because I’d rather not go through the frustration of having to figure out how to use the other product again.
Thanks for this video, it helped me understand why Elon os who he is and I must just say…….Elon rocks, legend, so sorry you had to experience such abuse as a child, I respect him for working his way out of it in such a positive productive genius way…….as a South African it’s a honour to know we share the same geographical experiences, go Elon!!!!!!! You will not walk alone❤️
My whole family absolutely adores your quest to make this show greater and develop its style. But if you didn’t the show is already the greatest out there. Love your content, the honesty and depth of your presentation. You’re uniquely refreshing. ❤👏🏽 don’t forget to stop now and again and enjoy what you’ve done. ❤🥰

Fascinating insight into some incredible people. After almost every DOAC podcast, including this one, I leave thinking “I’m grateful that people in this world are doing such amazing things, but I definitely don’t want their life!” Other reflection… wouldn’t it be amazing for Walter to write a biography on Steven. I know Steven already documents a lot (vlog etc), but it would be super interesting to hear/read it from the perspective of a world class storyteller!
If Walter Isaacson is writing your biography, you’ve either made it & done something extraordinary with your life, or you are in dire need of some deep introspection and perhaps an intervention of some kind (perhaps it’s both, lol). Isaacson’s Steve Jobs bio is supremely good; highly recommend it to everyone.
lon in 2022: "For Twitter to deserve public trust, it must be politically neutral, which effectively means upsetting the far right and the far left equally." YES!!!!!!👍 Elon in 2024: "Trump/Vance MUST win. I can't handle 4 years of seeing and hearing Kamala/Walz. That would be cruel and unusual punishment." Goodbye principles, hello oligarchy. "FREE SPEECH" then follows with censoring Turkish journalists who speak out against an authoritarian government, and censoring the Vance dossier.
For Walter Isaacson personally, I think this was he's best biography to write about because there is so much to write and talk about when its come to the topic - Elon Musk
Elon is way more accomplished than Steve Jobs. Was an arcade game programmer at age 12, then put the Yellow Pages online. Later on, owned the world's first online bank PayPal. Now has Tesla, Space X, The Boring Company, Neurolink AI company, and Twitter / X. A mutifaceted man. A modern day Nicola Tesla. 😊
Idk about yall, but Elon is our present day hero. I’m thankful for him and what he does. Steve Jobs is greatly missed. Apple products are just not the same, unfortunately, without him.
What a fascinating episode! Thanks Walter for sharing your knowledge with us!

I love the way Elon distances himself from perfection. This means a lot to me.
Autism spectrum disorder man with blinders on to the United States issues.
I remember that too also in in hindsight I realized he was at a tough spot himself close to bankruptcy with Tesla in 2018 I think.
He was very stressed and that was also the last straw that broke the camel's back.
i remember that episode too... and Musk followed through too.

Such a fantastic conversation indeed. Thank you so much for your support!! Team DOAC 🙏
Elon and Walter sitting in a room crafting a story to make America swoon. CIA! CIA! CIA!
Seriously?!
I really enjoyed listening to this so interesting conversation with Stephen, and Walter Isaacson❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you
It's a great read. We're borrowing it from the library.
Not a second of skepticism? Just lap it all up as if it’s true? Not myth making? Not consolidation of memory?

The interview was enlightening, Walter Isaacson is so patient and kind in his thoughts of others. It's a tribute to his deep understanding of others and the world. Thank you for bringing this conversation to my attention.
Walter, I don't agree with your politics, but I love your exhaustive research style, implacably walking in the footsteps of your subjects to know them with an intimacy that cannot be obtained through a few arms length interviews. It's a seldom employed technique, possibly unique to you among contemporary biographers. I also deeply respect your view about the invaluable societal role the story teller plays in consolidating and retransmitting human virtues to succeeding generations
After listening to this fascinating interview, I eagerly look forward to reading your Musk saga.
Yep. Walter's left leaning ideologies surface at times. Some chapters seems to have hidden agenda. Other than that good book.
I love Walter Isaacson's work. We get so many insights from other peoples lives.

Your son is very lucky to have you as his mom you are an angel
Wish you'd been my mom, darling. Love you ❤
Good for you.
…..😢they know not what they do….😢 still no excuse…
@mshoneylovebaby I don't think Angel comes into it.
Whatever comes along your way you just have to deal with it as best you can, and when you sit back one day to draw breath, you realise that you are dealing with something that's been a challenge, but you stepped up to that challenge without thinking.

It may not be the intention of this particular podcast but it just gave me my own eureka moment. Thank you for having this conversation. Very inspiring and enlightening. KNOW THYSELF and stick to it.
Nothing new than what I as offered in the garden of Eden 🐍 💩 🔥 wake up. 💩
I thought we'd hear a little more about him as well
Walter dismisses the core change of Elon’s understanding of politics.
His fight to preserve our right of Free Speech has earned him a place as one of the greatest defenders of the U.S. Constitution.
Even tho his path is not straight 😅
@@HollyNashWoodVille care to elaborate or should we just accept your statement as fact?

"FREE SPEECH" then follows with censoring Turkish journalists who speak out against an authoritarian government, and censoring the Vance dossier.

It gives you perspective. Well Done!
Walter may think Twitter is less, but to me, who doesn't follow the woke brigade, raw opinions are more valuable than woke-speak. Thanks Elon.

This is a fantastic interview. I’m definitely going to look for Walter’s other books. I hope someday you are able to interview Elon yourself. Thanks for always asking interesting and deep questions.
Yes, that would be amazing; Steven interviewing Elon!
"I think Musk sees himself on the same trajectory as Steve Jobs." If we're being honest, his trajectory is more impressive than anyone else's, especially since 2005-ish.
I agree Fergie. Elon has long since completely surpassed Jobs.
@@violetviolet888 Another extreme lefty mad because Elon Musk, while being left wing, supports free speech. So you rant and rave and spout nonsense. What has made you guys so mad is that he has thrown a kink in you being able to censor everyone and take away free speech. So you make up stories and spout them. Chill.
@@violetviolet888 Tesla is amazing….space X is amazing…..he has designed and built the perfect little house that is gorgeous….he has done many impossible things….though not all are well publicized….and make no mistake….he is not nearly through changing our world and universe. Steve Jobs is through; he won’t be contributing more. He was great, but he's gone. Musk is still here and very busy.
At this point, there is absolutely no comparison between Elon and Jobs. Elon has far, far surpassed Jobs many, many moons ago.
I have such a soft spot for elon, there's something about him that fascinates me. I'm enjoying the new X as well, especially the direct messages that come thru from him. It's a lot of fun, his humour is so dry, much appreciated by the British! There's just a certain something about him so i watch him with a lot of curiosity and interest
Glad he’s listening to you all!
How to watch?
21:04 "Having something to prove coming out of childhood and demons to harness tends to drive you a bit more". Hugs to everyone who can relate❤
True though when the break through does not happen it is brutally painful and a huge loss.

Notice all of the gurus have “schtick.”

Walter is a love with a heart and a great brain offering wisdom and class!

For Walter Isaacson personally, I think this was he's best biography to write about because there is so much to write and talk about when its come to the topic - Elon Musk
