Tiny here! Thanks for covering my game. This was really informative. The confidence with which my team was flaming me actually had me questioning my sanity this game, so it's definitely nice to be vindicated about some of my criticisms. This game was only a week or two ago, but I've actually gotten a lot better about muting people after early flaming/bad advice/etc., and it's definitely winning me games. For example, if I wasn't so busy typing to argue with the Rubick and Void, I could have focused more on high ground tossbacks and initiation timing late game, and potentially brought this game back after a couple of failed highground attempts. I've heard BSJ talk about a big difference between ranks is how consistently and how quickly good decisions get made, so it was really cool to watch you call out the moments where I was too slow to make a good decision as well as missing out on good opportunities altogether. Going to try and really focus on reacting quickly and consistently to opportunities and timings in my games this week. I calibrated at 450 MMR back in September after not playing for years (I was Herald back then too), and just hit 3k MMR this week, so I'm excited to keep improving and you gave me a lot of good things to focus on in this video! Thanks again for covering it.
For anyone curious, here was my initial submission comment:
I’m the tiny. Match started with team upset at me for picking tiny mid and i said it’s the most meta mid right now and to just trust me. Felt like I did really well vs a hard OD matchup, but definitely didn’t rotate during lane as much as I could have. Still getting used to how often I should be spamming toss in lane so I think I could have pressured OD harder too. Felt like I spent too much time fighting early and delayed my blink which made mid game awkward. By the time we were team fighting my axe and void kept missing spells and fights were hard. My argument this match was with my rubick, who I felt was warding poorly and resulted in no map vision, and he kept dying out of position. Additionally a few times I called for us to smoke with chrono and all the smokes were gone and I felt like they were being wasted. Rubick said it was my job as a mid to defend the wards and it wasn’t his fault they were getting dewarded, while I said his placement was just bad. Ultimately I got uncharacteristically tilted and started flaming my void for bad chronos and my rubick for his wards (only once our racks were being taken and the game was over) and my team (void and rubick) started flaming me for picking tiny mid and making lanes impossible by not rotating. Did I grief my teams mid-game by making early game hard? Did we lose because of vision or because of bad decision making?
Love the sarcasm when it comes to checking the map while farming the creeps. Yup, laser focused on killing a creep camp that you've killed 1000 times before.

I love how you always take more time to explain the early game since it has a snowball effect in the rest of the game and helping there is the most impactful. Keep up the good content. Maybe take more time to explain why you explain the way you do for those who do not understand.
If both teams have equal draft and equal skill, this is the most natural and easiest way to win. Sometimes you just lose early game and have to split and pickoffs to win late game, some other time you have to keep busting towers to end the game before the enemy got stronger. It is important to realize whether your team is weaker or stronger at any given time. By doing so, you could play with certain objective in mind, instead of afk farming / base hugging to the point of boring 60 minute game
Getting flamed for picking tiny mid is crazy. I am in fucking crusader and even here I see him played mid every four or five games despite having him on my ban list. He seems broken and is played commonly almost anywhere, those people were in a coma for past few weeks or something.
I haven’t seen tiny mid at 3-4k in a while. Don’t play a ton, game or two every few days.

@@jamesh7876 if you only play a few games per week then it's likely because Tiny is hotly contested and is in everyone's, myself included, ban list. His crash landing facet is broken and also unfortunately is bugged to deal full damage to debuff immunity(BKB, Blade Fury, Rage, etc.). Best you ban it and if available, encourage someone on your team to pick him.
@@b4sh936 Problem is likely almost every 10 players in the game knows he's broken so he's probably on that ban list. Dunno about anything below 5k but the Rock man is a must ban in my bracket.

Rule number 1 of warding at low MMRs: if you ward not obvious high ground spots, you are very likely to not get dewarded.
Rule number two is sentry the obvious high ground spots near where a support has been.

low mmr players always live 3-4 patches backwards. not their fault. they are just not as serious about the game. but it creates tensions in pick phase often. got flamed for playing sven support recently.
I found Sven support needs the team to actually be playing with each other to leverage his strengths. Every time I’ve tried the team splits off and farms even when I get the lead for them. Then when we lose they blame low impact support Sven.

@@calvincotton1998the only time tiny mid has been bad is when the hero is trash. That's not on him being mid specifically, but just being in a bad state.
That said, it's been a long time since tiny wasn't active somewhere in the meta.
i just tried playing dota 2 for the last 3 days and watching things like these seems so overwhelming with all the events happening my mind couldn't keep up it's getting a bit discouraging. new subscriber btw.
That is what makes it fun, the challenge, there is always something to improve. But do not worry about getting all right, all at once, start small, one or 2 characters, one role, learn the characters mechanics, focus on learning the lanning concepts first, as you get comfortable with that you slowly expand your understanding of the game and the more advanced mechanics. Keep your mind open and try to enjoy the learning instead of focusing on winning so that you can have fun.

When rubick was dewarding and got chased by the WD at 21:00, you should run to the left. WD can't chase because Rubick can cliff the WD on the ward spot if he tries to walk in a straight line. Kind of a Rubick specific strat, but should be one you learn if you are playing the hero!
This also applies to any cliffing hero: Rubick is just the notable one since he just has one of the better abilities for it.
to be fair to void when he was laser focusing creeps he did not had a tp, in fact the tp was being delivered to him, which he got just a few seconds later. As he didnt have tp he couldnt join even if he wanted to, so he didnt check (he should still check to know what spells have been used tho). And about the chronos, in the heat of the moments it becomes really hard to be on point, specially if you are stressed about how the game is going. I am just saying void is a really hard carry to play compared to others, for me atleast.

But for real, it's so annoying when cores (especially those with kill-securing ultimates like mana void, chrono, shadow step, omnislash) are AFK farming when they could TP to a fight and literally steal a kill and their team wouldn't even be mad for the ks because the gold is going to their pos 1. Dude totally deserves the roast.
The single biggest myth in dota is that the low mmr game is completely different from the high mmr game. I've had dozens of 1k mmar players tell me a pro would lose in herald because pros don't understand the herald game and what works in a pro game is bad in a herald game. Seriously

Teleporting mid to fill bottle is something I need to do more often. A lot of times I don't need to go straight back to lane (albeit, I'm a turbo player not a ranked player, so TP cd is much shorter). Watching that rubick ward caused me physical pain though. Its clear the enemy WD is on top of his game for dewarding, and his team wasn't doing enough to keep the wards safe. So you gotta be creative when that happens, start placing wards on the ground. They don't NEED to be high up.
everytime u step at fountain remember to check out for bottle fills or express ganks, ur tp is a tool, not a "go back to the lane i belong immedeatly" only

It wasn't because of the 3 things that you recommended, but because of mastery of the hero and how to win and kill everybody in team fights. It is no coincidence that I'm doing this with a hero I'm a grandmaster with. Nothing else will get you out of low MMR. Please Zac say something. I'm happy for the victory, and I don't mind what you did earlier if you will understand that I am not as bad as you think I am.

In my opinion, make the runes farther to the top or bottom so that mid can rotate because they are near the top or bottom lanes when they pickup the rune.
This would put too much pressure on the side lane supports to be grabbing these objectives. If the runes were closer to the side lanes, the side lanes could be won entirely off a single good rune spawn.

It's not a replay bug, valve fixed that feature where you can check if enemy placed a ward or not.
I play mid and this is something that so many other plays even understand, I also got flamed for tiny mid. I almost thought this was my game last week!

I've seen an underleveled underfarmed huskar dive tower 1 v 3 with no backup whatsoever and no items. You can safely dive into tier 3 towers at 5 minutes with no one even noticing. Picking up an aegis after killing Roshan? Sometimes just doesn't happen. Wiped out enemy team beside tormentor? Everyone on team runs away instead of spending five seconds killing it. Wipe out enemy team beside tier two tower? Don't take it, instead go back to own jungle to farm.
Peak Dota content - you want us to be better much more effectively than the folks flaming in all chat
I am Rubick player, this was not game for blink into ags (it never is) if he bought FS into glimmer game would be much easier. Plus, if you pick that talent that reduces mana and you wanna get that stupid cast range item, then you don't need mana boots, get green ones, you move faster (but he don't really gangs) you heal really fast. Basically, you can stay on the map all the time, and warding was r word.
PS, Why would you buy ags when you don't even use spells anyway. 99% of players from 500-5000mmr thing they need to do dmg as post 4-5, you have cores for that, you protect them, or you control enemy. 34:18 See, FS and he is alive... And take free shards ffs.

Matchup is supposed to variably play out like that: Tiny is meant to focus on CS and avoiding more than one stack of Raze. He will eventually scale to pick of SF anyway, just don’t lose too hard beforehand.

I have legit 90% winrate with weaver soft support, and had quite a good winrate with sven hard supp too (last patch 7.36b myb), but half the games I got flamed at the picking stage, people think even if they are meta they are only good for pro levels. However, if we win those same people would commend me.

Looks like an offlane failure to me, especially a soft support failure. I stopped watching at 10min when I found out that Ogre Magi did not make a single move during those 10's. The situation at 4:40 speaks for itself: the OD mid is really low, not yet lvl6, the likelihood to have a ward in the Dire jungle is close to 0, but no action taken by the soft support. That Ogre Magi looked like a disaster.
About the safelane complaining, well it is obvious they are crappy if they do. The hard carry does not have the same timing than mid and offlaners. So, just deal with your own timing, get info, process and make your play.

Low mmr players *take pride* in being ignorant of the current state of the game. Spending ten minutes listening to a tier list on my way home from work means one is a "tryhard" and people will deliberately throw the game if they think they are in a game with someone who bothers to understand the current state of the game
Hey Zac I recently managed to climb from 140 MMR to 669 MMR! I'm 101 MMR away from guardian I! Can you believe that?? And I'm doing it at like a 90 percent win rate! I stopped playing ranked when I reached that point in order to not get a losing streak. I'll queue for ranked again when I'm like arteezy or something. There's something interesting that I thought you should know. I now do creep aggro successfully every single creep wave. And I noticed that all those who I thought were smurfing don't know what is going on when I do so! It means it's impossible that any of these people is smurfing. You were right. They are just cheaters and griefers but they can't be anywhere above crusader!
Update. I took a leap of faith and queued for ranked and now I'm 719! This is the highest I've ever been!! 🤯 I can't believe it! You don't need to follow a strategy. That's why you lose. You need to become all-knowing, and then focus on winning by any means necessary, with disregard to how. Without necessarily following any definite particular strategy or method!!

Mid qop, my phx pre picking already complained cause i was low rank vs enemy divine mid. Played relatively well and managed to hold off the game until my centaur proceeds to not do anything the entire mid game. He also didnt buy blink while the enemy bought 3 blinks. We proceeded to lose every clash.
How did you konw the mid person didnt know tiny was a meta pick?

I have never seen a chill rubick player. They are all whiny passive agressive 1-2-4 mains who are forced to play support and only play for kdr and blame.
Rubick players are only in it for the rush of killing you with your own spells, not for the win
This is wrong, those players all pick dogshit heroes like silencer support and pull the small camp even though the wave is already frozen at the tower
Conversely, the higher the rank the more you see significantly better Rubick players. Rubick does poorly when played at lower ranks who don't have enough experience seeing "optimal" play.

TA and Storm. TA was hard to carry. Storm was really good but reckless and flamed me for playing "safe"
Typical 'mid no rotate' crap. Mid role is 5x harder than support and 3x harder than safe lane. Tiny overperforms and beats OD (terrible match up) Rubick expects the mid laner to win his lane and doesn't do anything to enable the mid. Rubick rotating at 6 or 8 mins to enable Tiny would then allow him to help Faceless. Sure, Tiny probably should have rotated after solo killing OD, however you can't flame Tiny for not doing advanced midlane stuff when Rubick can't do absolute basics in the easiest role in Dota. Faceless also can't rotate for a Chrono whilst hitting jungle camps. Tiny has nuanced decisions to make such as wisdom rune, tower, power rune, clearing wave etc. Rubick's decision is stand in lane and do nothing or play with mid. When it comes down to it, Rubick + FV flames Tiny for not playing like an advanced mid laner, whilst not being able to do basics from their own role. If my mid lane Tiny beats an OD mid and the OD doesn't rotate to my lane, I would take that every single game!
For other examples tho, it depends on who the mid is. If they are a high tempo early-mid game mid, it's better to gank but if they're something like a drow, sniper, invoker, etc it might be better to farm depending on the game plan
Almost
if you think playing 5 is the easiest role in dota, you are very very mistaken. Arguably the easiest role in dota at the moment is playing carry, you get spoon fed the whole game, 1 out of 10 games gets decided by the carry, the other 9 are decided by either offlanes or supports.
Position 5 have to:
1) Stack small/medium camp
2) Pull stacked camp without breaking equilibrium
3) Harass offlaner
4) Secure lotus
5) Secure bounty run
6) Harass offlaner again
7) Secure power runes
8) Try to steal enemy xp rune
9) Setup night time vision for rotations
10) Stack camps for carries
and mind you, this is all within the first 10 minutes of the game, and dont forget to harass the offlaner again!
Meanwhile carry has to
- Farm creeps under tower
No matter how good of a carry you are, you will hardly hardly win a lane cuz of mechanics, it’s your support playing good that wins you the lane.
The above is true for 6k bracket and above, i understand that 2k supports doesn’t do half of the list and you consider the role as the “easiest one”
@@nicks6941yep, all you said it is true, and more, support has to predict where the team are going to be playing and ward the right areas in a way that is not easily dewarded, needs to figure enemies wards for deward, needs to participate in fighting from gold and level disadvantage. Meanwhile mid needs to farm and use his immense level and gold advantage to kill people, it is the second most straightforward role, only the carry needs to think less.

I used to be able to carry the game by playing mid, but I’m just not able to anymore. Even after dominating early and mid game as some sort of hero that scales well into the late game, I just can’t seem to win while playing mid anymore. Any tips?
Use your power spike in midgame to claim objectives, mainly gold from towers. If the enemy tries to stop you, space created. If not, the global gold boosts your team up, letting them catch up. Just kill every tier 2 and use the open space to bully their carry.

Honestly there isn't much you can do late game that's the nature of a good mid lane hero: sharp power spike early to mid allowing you to control the pace of the game via ganks and map control, but ultimately it is a team effort to end the game. As pos 2 in late game you want to identify opportunities to set your team up to win like getting a gank or targeting high priority targets in teamfights (dying is probably the worst mistake, you will still probably be the second highest damage dealer in your team).
@@SjahalNoori that is what I do. Kill every tower except T3 towers. Then my team just don’t know how to finish and the other team gets the chance to get back into the game.
@@Luffemonstertake whatever you can from enemy side, their jungles, ancients, rosh, tormentor, and preferably shove all 3 lanes holding enemy in their base. Then pray if your hopefully not-so-dumb carry want to go t3 (preferably with aegis/ buyback ready) and end the game.

I'm playing as the medusa here, we won the game but barely. I thought the team was a bit too aggressive and died because of that. The OD kept missing his astral meteor combo which i think got himself killed a bit, and the tiny almost lost us the game by tossing me into the enemies when i just bought back.
But then again I kinda wanna learn also from the enemies side, like could they have won, if the venge did not walk up mid and die near the end?

im playing as luna this game, and i think the timber on my team tried to ks one fight by euling the bloodseeker which was probably gonna die to me, and then i died to the bloodseeker feeding a 6x killstreak (around 29min), and thats about the end of the game. To try to cut the losses i farmed relatively carefully to catch up, and kept telling my team to fight hg but they dont respect the fact that we were so far behind. Maybe they are allergic to high ground, i dont know, but that sealed the deal. There was one fight too were lina tried to ks me too, and kept her laguna blade against tiny (around 42min).
and the timber blamed me for slow farm, but i did all i could. There was a riki, and there was no one buying the wards. I asked the support for a few minutes, and i started pinging it when it got to 7 stacks sentries, and i just bought them to put around because the 2 supports refused to buy sentries against a riki that could set up a gank when im farming
theres just too many games in low elo where i actually dont know if it was possible to win at all with the correct decisions made :(

I think i screwed up the early game. My hc and me died 2 times, also couldnt block the camps and get dewarded. i rotate to try to help other lanes. At mid game we almost flip the match but enemy hc was so strong. Also i had phoenix midlane in my team and i think it was kind of useless.

I know, this is a very boring game, I played kinda bad and threw very hard at the end but I really want to know because it seems this happens all the time and it really hurts my already lacking confidence even more. Whenever the game goes bad until min 20 or so, I always take the blame for it. But how is it (unexceptionally) my fault that my team forces bad fights? Sometimes we even communicate that we should wait for item xy but they still fight, I feel forced to join, I don't farm and my mates ask me why my farm is dogshit. I don't know what to do. I'm always scared to farm because there might be a fight coming which might be ruined by me not being there. Even when I know that I'm too weak at some point, I always feel pressured. I go in, do nothing and wasted my tp and valuable gold... Do you have any tips for me?

Best is debatable but you'd be lying to your teeth if you're not convinced that Tiny is super strong and meta. People at low ranks are just ignorant and patches behind on what hero is good.
Meta does not mean popular. It means what's best/most consistent. Off meta things can be good or better than meta picks, but if they are it means they are situational or less consistent. An example would be core wyvern. You can't just pick her in any match, but depending on the enemy heroes wyvern could be stronger than meta picks like tiny.

3) Just want to start this off with Im fairly new to the game still I mostly play pos 1 but I have enjoyed watching your videos since my start and it does help watching support videos as well when I do have to role queue games. You make pretty good content and has helped me a lot understanding the game more.
Just a game I thought was going really well had okay cs at 10mins and free lane. Farmed up manta and shard and decided it was a good time to start fighting. Most fights went okay pre high ground, I made some mistakes like not regenning enough in lane and could have been an easy to kill gank at some points. I could have sent my items out on courier more... etc etc. Anyways, I thought the game was going well and was going to be an easy win. We won a fight, I farmed up a heart and finished my orchid and then went to rosh. Got aegis and pushed bot. I told my team to just let them kinda poke at me and just let me hit the tower. Sit behind and wait for them to fully all in and counter initiate because they have a dark seer wall and invoker who can just group us up and do massive team damage. I walked up and pressed manta too early and forgot bloodseeker's silence to dispel it and just hit the tower for a bit before ds walked up and tried hitting me. I felt like that was a pretty good time for tiny to blink in and stun/toss him and remove him from the fight so we could actually push up. Tiny didn't blink in and then my underlord decided to walk up and same with my witch doctor and we got walled and team wiped. It got me a little irritated that nothing happened and we lost the fight. I got heated only a bit at this point and told them to listen and just stay back till you see a full commit. I also complained that underlord didnt build a pipe into ds and invoker which i thought would have been a good item this game as well as astral step/dissimilate from void. He ignored me as well as suggesting aghs for his portal. I didn't really think too much into it since I thought we were still going to win this game. 2nd fight comes and we pick off some people, completely forget to push creep wave so its for nothing... That's on me for not noticing. I tp back since they're pushing mid and we pick off void but my underlord said while we were already tping back "we can take top" and then he died solo top which tbh I thought he could have noticed no one was behind him and walk away but it was fine since they didnt push. Either way Im getting a little heated at this point and I know I shouldnt. Anyways come to the 2nd hg push we do and I know I should have taken rosh this is my second biggest fault this game. We get to pushing hg and without hesitation, my underlord just walks up with me again after i told him to either just never walk up and portal into their backline so we dont get full team wall/vacuumed or just play reactive. We get wiped again, they had some buybacks and I was pretty much full tilt at this point flaming my team except kotl and wd. I buyback before they push and try to look for a pick off because i saw void alone top. Team found him and I came to help but got ruptured, silenced, etc and died and that was my biggest mistake and lost us the game. I know I should have played better and not made those kind of mistakes and just kept calm and thought it through more but I feel like my anger to my underlord and tiny was not unjustified I guess. Especially when I told them multiple times what is going to happen if they walk up with me. Also just flat out not buying pipe/my entire team seemingly being underfarmed compared to opponents/less items even when up tilted me post game. Im sure im an asshole in some aspects but would like to know if my call and anger was somewhat right
