    Ever since I started playing back in AllStars, Meepo was always one of those heroes that when you saw someone pick you knew you were either in for the easiest or the hardest game of your life. It was always a noob who didn’t know, or a Meepo main who had thousands of hours of nothing but split farming on Meepo

    • @canyuxel
      @canyuxel 11 месяцев назад +136

      I was a Meepo main on AS, its fairly straightforward if you're used to handling micro like on autopilot.
      I'd decimate solo-queue lobbies but it gets very tricky when the entire opposing side is a coordinated team (and you're teamed with feeder clowns), your "numbers" advantage turns into a disadvantage real quick.

    • @MsHojat
      @MsHojat 11 месяцев назад +12

      This is very misleading/wrong. If someone plays mostly or only Meepo it means that they will be calibrated for that performance that they always get for that hero, meaning they will _not_ have abnormally good performance. They might still do really well, but that would count on how well they do in the early game and how well the opponent does and if there are counters on the opposing team.
      When an experienced Meepo picker picks Meepo, allies force him to the off lane, opponents counterpick with something like ET/ES (or Meepo picks into it, even), there's no reason to expect that experienced player to do well, and more-so should even expect them to do poorly.

    Finally, justice for Meepo. People will never not have strong opinions about the hero as if they know what they’re talking about and that it’s some absolute fact that he’s always garbage tier for some reason. Meepo is a beast, and definitely the most unique hero in the game, with very unique results. You can’t call a hero bad when the entire pro scene is absolutely mortified to face him to the point they obsessively ban him almost every game a Meepo main shows ip

    • @MsHojat
      @MsHojat 11 месяцев назад +16

      For most of DOTA's history Meepo had a really bad win rate that hovered between like 41 and 49%. It only actually went up above 50% maybe the better half of a decade after DOTA 2 first went publicly playable. But in more recent years there have been a couple periods where Meepo has had high win rates too.
      Certainly pro level can be slightly different though. It really matters a lot if they can get the right draft and opponent draft for Meepo to work. That, plus someone who can play the hero at an abnormally-high level (which skews the balance outside of gameplay win rate stats)
      Although on the topic of skill ceiling, for a long time Meepo had a very high skill ceiling. I'd argue for a long time now that ceiling has been somewhat lowered though, due to clones no longer gaining much exp from kills, nor gaining much exp around allies, reducing need to keep the Meepos split to multiple areas as often. I suppose the addition of Dig and MegaMeepo helped return the skill level back a bit though.

    • @robbierotten2024
      @robbierotten2024 11 месяцев назад +38

      @@MsHojat Meepo will always have a bad winrate though, because most people playing him won’t be good enough. For most heroes, their winrate is a good indicator of their balance. But for Meepo, it’s been shown that even when he has low win rates he is capable of being extremely impactful when in the right hands. If a characters bad, there’s a limit to how good you are with them will carry you in a game. What Meepo has shown for a while is that in capable hands he is entirely capable of being a very strong hero; he just requires a specialist in a game that discourages being a specialist at the highest levels. His winrate even in the pro scene is hard to know his strength from exactly, because when someone gets good with Meepo he terrorizes the scene so much Meepo gets banned almost every game anyways and won’t be banned in situations they think they can win, which skews with his true winrate numbers alot.

    To expand the tangent, (in reality its most likely the devs just forgot) but in an lore reason could be, he was originally (when he broke the crystal) he was all of them simultaneously. I quite like the idea of having a universe where soul fragments slowly develop into their own beings. Even if there is a clear resemblance between the original and one of the clones, a clone could be very different from another clone.
      What's the smallest size where a soul fragment would still be able to take control of a full body? Would a smaller fragment still be able to take control of a small body, even if not a full one? Is it possible to clone a clone? Is there a sort of resistance that the body has to its new soul? @@sevenpolar3483not really, and even if you are right, it's nowhere near true to the same extent as the above statement. When you play meepo, you play up to five heroes instead of one so it's up to five times as hard. In a game such as dota 2 which is very complex and hard to play as one hero, even "easy" heroes such as huskar or pa or lc, imagine if you could watch 5 different parts of the map at the same time and play each hero at the same time perfectly, it's just impossible even if u played dota for everyday for 80 years for 15 hours a day, no human can do that while you can master heroes such as sniper way easier and use their full potential. To your point, even then, you will probably always make small mistakes with positioning or miss last hits or something like that but still it is humanly possible to master other heroes where it will never be possible to fully use meepo's potential unless he gets reworked.

No way GP is even a tenth as difficult as Meepo, especially when his skillcap is...placing barrel chains. Or Aphelios, who has to micromanage guns...but has the best autos in the game bar none. Sure you can learn cool tech like GP's "ghost barrels", but that still will never be as difficult to perform as the average of Dota's hardest.

    Meepo's potential map-wide presence and all the micromanagement that can go into that really could make him a potential pick for like RTS players wanting to get into MOBAs, especially something like a Warcraft 3 pro that's used to micro-managing multiple heroes on the map and base building.
    But yeah, for the average player, there's not much reason to burden one's self with learning the hero. - Want clones? Play phantom lancer. Want the lock-down and scouting? Play Mirana. Want map presence? I dunno, play mid and buy a blink dagger or something.

It's not delved into too deeply but it's interesting, given that every one of you is still you the concept of jealousy for yourself isn't an issue in the arrangement and different aspects of you assume different roles much like hands or arms do. Since it's a post scarcity society there's not an issue of overly favoring one of yourselves.

    Meepo can be he or they because they were all one and semi autonomous so it's more like a centralized hivemind on the prime, sorta like drones linked up to a computer. But those drones used to be a bigger computer together. Imagine if you had 2 bodies but your physical 2 brains react differently as they would being in 2 different positions and factors leading up to it to where it's more like you reacting in a slightly different timeline but at the end of the day you are very much the same and can connect perfectly due to it, 2 bodies one shared concious.
    I always liked characters like this, it's like one brain on multiple bodies, a general feeling before you get entirely to the physical, i always called it a mutual hivemind. In this case literal soul splitting where when together they are always wanting and working for the same thing and usually has similar movements if coordinated enough so it's like my mutual hivemind thought but with more autonomy in the bodies themselves which would lead to the lost meepo sorta making sense and maybe unconnecting from the rest due to distance/time.

    you could have mulltiple conciousness and never ever be able to know it .
    further : your identity is more defined by other than by yourself , so how many of version of you existe

  • @sadpee7710
    @sadpee7710 11 месяцев назад

    i think the meepo clones have some type of individuality but not because they're seperate beings but because the soul pieces aren't identical. i'm kind of imagining like of those cartoon clone type episodes were some guy makes a clone of themself but it's imperfect and only captures one part of their personality, so you can have the clone who loves eating or smt and then you can have the evil clone that has all the worst aspects of that person. so imagine that however rather than creating a new person, the personality of a single complex individual is instead compartmentalized and seperated while still being the same single person. divided yet united.
    a better example would be to just imagine harry from disco elysium. all his skills and perspectives have seperated and can talk to each other but they're all still him.

    despite the meepo being level 20 when the rest of my team were around 12- 14, the other team were only 1, 2 levels higher. they had 1 or 2 items. the only one i didn't get in my echo slam was their safelaner, who couldn't defend their base against us. i found out in the postgame chat that the meepo took all the camps and stacks, which left the safelaner with no farm. on the other hand, the gold from the meepo pwn was pretty much an item for each of us, and like 2 levels.
    last year i queued into a meepo game where the same problem happened. another reason to not pick meepo

    adding to the tangent - on the Artefact card for Divided we Stand, you missed the fact that at the bottom Meepo mentions "if you can't count on yourselves - who can you count on?". This implies it's the same rules as the DoTA 2 description, where it's just the same 1 person split into copies. The I and We is written from the perspective of Meepo 1 or the main Meepo talking about his copies, rather than different Meepo's.
