Lori, I am 81 years old and learn something from you with everyone of your videos! You are so knowledgeable when it comes to cooking, caning, preserving by drying , dehydrating…even the history of preserving food. You are a treasure! Please continue to teach us. Love and appreciate you so much!

Loved this! So many people don’t realize how much they waist in food alone. I remember my grandmother doing this after Thanksgiving. She’d fix turkey pot pie filling, pumpkin, apple pie filling, beans and potatoes, candied carrots and can/freeze it up for the next few months. Peas, green beans and beets would be canned last of spring. Never occurred to me that you could can oranges and lemons...now I know. Thank you for sharing your beautiful knowledge! You brought back beautiful memories for me.💗

My grandmother taught me to add salt to a pot of beans right at the beginning just like you do. After 50 years, I have yet to produce a pot of tough beans. Thank you so much for all of these wonderful videos.

I absolutely agree! My sister called me and asked for my beans recipe, she asked me if she should soak the beans over night or cook them slow w/o soaking. I told her if you want TASTELESS beans soak them first...because the FLAVORS infuse into the beans as they cook if you do NOT soak them. She listened and later told me the beans were DELICIOUS. SALT AND SPICE AND MEAT all at the same time!

I dehydrated lemons and limes for tea and for cooking fish. But when there on sale I squeeze them and fill a ice cube tray and pop them out and put them in zip lock bags. In the winter they can cost .79 cents or more a piece and in summer they get down to .25 cents a piece. thanks for all the Ideas. Thank you my friend :)

I was wondering what you would do with those orange peels. I save mine, freeze them and bring them out in cold weather with a stick of cinnamon and a few cloves and boil to make my house smell good. I have allergies and cannot use manufactured room perfumes. I love watching you. Thanks for the videos.

I take the peels and put them in an empty 1/2 gal cleaning vinegar jug with 2 cinnamon sticks. Cover with cleaning vinegar. (You can use white vinegar) let it sit 3 weeks. Strain into a spray bottle. Orange oil cleaner. You can refill the jug with cleaning vinegar. Let it sit another 3 weeks. Wonderful cleaner for just pennies.

You are amazing. We lived on an a large property outside of town for miles. We didn't go to town often either. I had a huge Canby rasberry patch and a huge garden that a farmer would plow and dump manure on for us. We lived off that garden and canning was a summer rutine. We froze the corn however I had to divorce my husband leaving me with four children, the oldest 9 years . The garden kept us going for a year while I healed from a very traumatic divorce. Then off to University I went to get an education with my children in a different state. Teaching became my profession. How grateful I am for the years I had raising children, gardening, canning and sewing. These are such essential skills. It is wonderful to watch your videos and escape back into those days. There is nothing like a full time homemaker!!!

I miss my days on the big farm, life was just as busy
      But a good busy
My kids were raised with simplicity, and clean air, and a creek to bath in too
      It was a beautiful time
It's still that way for some, but most have never seen this life
      We are Blessed, xoxoxo

You have the most pleasant voice to listen to. Your such a natural. I totally agree with you on Homemaking Classes. I was (maybe still am) hard core tomboy and chose cutting wood all day with PawPaw instead of hanging in the kitchen and learning. If it wasn’t for my junior high through high school Home Economics classes I would be more lacking.
We didn’t have RUclips back in the day either so what a great learning tool it has become. I’m so enjoying your channel.

We have a great food pantry in our small town. I get what they call a senior box. It is for those on Social Security. But, they always have so many extras they give. Last month I got flat of tomatoes, mangos, 2 bags of potatoes, oranges, apples and onions. I had more than enough for myself and to share with neighbors. Then I canned apple butter. Mango jam. Dehydrated potatoes and still had enough to eat.

Again a very nice video...I had a huge garden for 53 years and then we moved to a townhouse and I can’t have a garden anymore. I used to dehydrate most of my garden harvest but did do a little canning too. I really miss that! I am still going to dehydrate my produce that I buy in bulk. But canning oranges is a new thing for me to do. Thank you for showing me how. Agree with you, using up what is in the fridg with either dehydrating or canning is a nice feeling of accomplishment. Also love the cleaning solution made with lemons and oranges. I only use natural cleaning products so I will also make this as I am a cleaning freak as my family tells me.

I was watching your video fro Nov 2020 on your pantry. Just to let you know the Federal Government states powdered milk stays good if unopened for 10 years past the Best if used by date. And nonfat dry milk if stored correctly will last up to 25 years. Honey stays good forever,I’m sure you know that. So powered milk is a sure bet for storage. Thanks for you fun and interesting videos. I just love the 2 of you and the story of how you met .

Hey lovely Lori 🌸 soo glad to see this notification!!
I think most people have way too much food in their fridge/cupboards over Christmas 🎄?
It must of been a great feeling to
preserve all that food before it went off!? Great video, it just may inspire others to do the same. We have a heatwave here in Sydney so we are locked indoors so cleaning out the fridge is a task we could do.
Even if you don’t can up stuff, you can cook up and freeze some fruits n vege. The other day I cooked up some excess spinach and then froze...it’s fine for quiches etc, just defrost, squeeze out excess water then chop n use. I also freeze things like big bags of grated cheese....it lasts longer if you freeze it, I just put in a container to defrost or use frozen when I cook.
    Love ya Lori xxx

Thanks sweet pea, growing up , we didn't do without, but we had to make due, we had to stretch our pantry, nothing was wasted, Americans waste to much food. Love you, God Bless

Wow, two refridgerators! But i guess you need that living 20 miles from a store. I seem to go to the store every other day....it’s about two blocks away. Such different lifestyles. I love having a lemon tree in my backyard; summer and winter crops. Your canning is so pretty. You are very talented🌻

We have a lg family. Now almost all of them moved off and married, which is great, but my husband says we don’t need that much groceries, i always tell him, “. If he ever had done without once or twice he would make sure never to be without and never to waste “..

Miss Lori can you take a lemon and orange zest off of those peels, before you use them for your cleaner, and dehydrate the zest and package store for later could you show how to do that please, if it's possible ?
    I love it!
I love "Doc Martin" too! Yay, I can hear the theme song playing in the background, awesome! LOL

De-cluttering. One of the most un-fun things to do, but one of the most necessary. Especially when it comes to food, I think. And the the best part, for me, is that feeling of accomplishment when it's finished. GREAT video, girl! I enjoyed it very much! God bless.

Holy cow! Looks like my one fridge. Overflowing. You are an inspiration. I have 2 dehydrators and a freeze dryer. The Cabelas $200 dehydrator is as good as the Excaliber, and you can get it on sale for $99 or $109 from time to time. I use a thrift store Nesco ($10) outdoors for garlic, onions, and peppers. The Cabelas or freeze dryer for everything else. Thank you for the video.

I like orange marmalade with lemon peel also. I made a marmalade with orange, grapefruit, lemon, lime and tangerine peels, turned out great. You can also grate the peel and dehydrate them for lemon, orange peel. Candied citrus peel is delicious I add to my fruitcake and such.

Mrs. Lori, I always cook an apple in with my beans! It takes the music out of them! 😉 I cut an apple in half, remove the seeds and it’ll disintegrate into the beans. You can’t taste the apple! P.S. I’m from Pocahontas! I grew up around the 5 Miles Springs area! 😁

Another thing that is good to use orange peels for is removing adhesive just squeeze them and let the oil come out of the skin and it removes any kind of adhesive that you are having trouble getting off
