I bought a NEW rectangular cat litter pan from Dollar General, Family Dollar or maybe Walmart. (Can't remember which.) Bought an inexpensive one on purpose. Don't need for it to be heavy or bulky in size. I dump the contents from my Excalibur dehydrator trays into it. A plastic bristle scrub brush (shaped like an iron with a handle) helps to remove bits that stick. After filling the pan, I make room in the center of the pan to set a jar or other container. If, applicable use a canning funnel. Use a scoop, coffee mug or hands to fill the jar. Loose bits fall right back into the pan. When almost finished, remove the jar from the pan, then shake the remainder into one corner of the pan. Empty that into the jar. Keeps most of the mess contained. I use this when transferring bulk rice, beans, etc. into jars to be vacuum sealed. This pan comes in handy for sorting things, shucking corn and more. Hope this helps you resolve a messy problem. Works for me, FWIW....
I love having dehydrated spinach ready, so I can grab a few leaves to throw into sauces. It's much better than having half of the container get slimy before I can use it.

Thanks! Good tip about not using the screens on Nesco if drying large leaves to speed up drying time! I always have used the small screens, next time I'll try it with using no screens.
Hi, I use a large aluminum drip tray for the bottom of my oven that I pour the contents of the tray onto and then I fold it in half and pour it into my container. It’s great because it holds its v-shape as I pour and I can set it down on the counter if I need to use my hands for something else. Thanks
I'm going to have to try this. One tip, standard blenders are the same size as a small mouth canning jar. I think I will try the spinach in a jar to blend to eliminate the transferring of ultra fine powder. I think adding more and more and blending could get the jar most of the way filled up without having to transfer. I also use canning jars on my blender to make smoothies. No cleanup other than rinsing the blades and washing my jar that I use to drink my smoothie.
Also, using a piece of plastic over the top of the the vitamix/blenders and then putting the lid on helps powder not get up into the lid, saving product, not wasting y'all's hard work , and making clean up easier to Blessings, julie

@The Purposeful Pantry Although I'm in my 9th decade, I've learned SO much from you, dear heart! Do you sterilize your jars or just wash them super-well? Thanks in advance for your kind reply.
I use a narrow plastic tote which the trays fit down in to clean off trays. Keeps all of it in one place and makes it easy to pour into a wide mouth funnel.
If you add a generous sprinkle of salt to the water it lessens the surface tension of the water and all the dirt and grit fall right off. I used to wash my greens four or five maybe six times, I was a fanatic. Now I only have to do it twice. LOL (fanatics die hard, don'cha know?)
I have a nesco and when I dehydrate anything I need to empy. I have a large bowl bigger than my trays then I empty my trays in the bowl then go from there.
So glad I found your channel! You are a wealth of information! I want to learn as much as I can about proper food preservation. Can the spinach powder be stored long term and if so how? Oxy absorber, or desiccant packet? Do you have a video on types of foods for long term storage and how to prepare them for storing and whether to use oxy or dessicant packets? Im having difficulty finding out whether to freeze beans, rice, etc before storing. Do you have info on that? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us 😊
This is great the only thing is that you have to be mindful of the fact that for example some fruits or vegetables may have vitamin k for example and people that are on blood thinners have to consider that. So it's important not to overdo it it's better to simply have it in the proportion of what you would have normally on a plate
Buy one of those very flexible baskets from Dollar tree and just dump all in. It folds real good and can be so easy to just pour into jars blenders whatever...I have that round one like yours and I saw a lady doing this...makes so easy
I just found your channel today so I don't know whether you will see my comment or not but here goes: Would you process greens such as romaine lettuce in this same manner? Have you tried greens other than spinach and kale? Where did you find that brush? The reason that I ask is that it obviously needs to be one that can be washed often and I don't know if that would mean a makeup brush or a paint brush would work better. I am eager to watch more of your videos and learn from them. Thank you!
I empty my dehydrated products into big disposable aluminum foil pan, with parchment paper in the bottom. Make it easier to check dryness, as well being able to use the parchment paper to dump into blender, jar etc. I have both a Excalibur and a very old round dehydrater. So the large aluminum tray, makes it very easy to dump my trays.
I am so glad to have found your channel. My daughter has trouble with oxalic acid. You said that cooking spinach removes it but would it dehydrate if done first? Would you please elaborate on that? Thank you!
Dehydrating doesn't. It has to be blanched first if you want to remove it, then dehydrate it. OR, if you want to dehydrate it for storage, dehydrate as is and only used in products that are going to be cooked. But dehydrating it and then using it in a smoothie is still 'raw'.
@@Grabtheone Hello. It is a naturally occurring substance in spinach and chocolate that is an anti-nutrient. Please look it up as I can't remember how it impacts people. My sister and family live in Texas and I will be moving there as soon as my cat has left this world. He didn't do well in this move where I purchased my house so he needs to stay in one place now. But I will be moving to Lufkin one day! :-)
Very interesting, i wanna try this to
I use frozen its already blanched chopped and you get more for the money the powder is awesome in my AWESOME SPINICH ARTICHOKE MUSHROOM RANCH DIP
Well done young lady!
I love the idea of using the paint brush. Q: How long will products like these last on the shelf?
Powders less than a year, dehydrated foods optimally 12-18 mos
I have small mesh screens that fit my nesco. Theyre flexible and line the regular trays
@The Purposeful Pantry
Although I'm in my 9th decade, I've learned SO much from you, dear heart!
Do you sterilize your jars or just wash them super-well?
Thanks in advance for your kind reply.
Clean dry jars is all you need.
I figure, sterilizing is best. Since it goes hand in hand with washing very well.
I dump into a 13x9 storage container, then use my canning funnel to transfer into my jar.
I use a narrow plastic tote which the trays fit down in to clean off trays. Keeps all of it in one place and makes it easy to pour into a wide mouth funnel.
I love your videos! What about using a large rectangular tub to dump your dehydrated veggies into once dry. Then you can scoop them up to blend
That's what I do. I bought a dish pan at the Dollar Tree and it's perfect for this purpose.
Thank you I really appreciate you you’re the best so smart enjoy your day
Putting some food wrap film under your lid help contain the powder. Thanks for sharing the video; nice work.
Thank you for the video. I loaded my nesco and bio chef with spinach. Can't wait to have my powder on hand. 💓💓💓
Thank you so much found more ways to eat my vegetables I really appreciate you thanks again
I have gotta get one of these salad spinners, love that. I have only just started the video 😂👍👍
I love mine so much!!!
You could use a potted plant tarp with raised edges. Amazon has them.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us 😊
I'm also interested in dehydrating beans and lentils.
That is awesome, I can't wait too try this!
This is great the only thing is that you have to be mindful of the fact that for example some fruits or vegetables may have vitamin k for example and people that are on blood thinners have to consider that. So it's important not to overdo it it's better to simply have it in the proportion of what you would have normally on a plate
OMG, where have you been all my life?! Lol
Buy one of those very flexible baskets from Dollar tree and just dump all in. It folds real good and can be so easy to just pour into jars blenders whatever...I have that round one like yours and I saw a lady doing this...makes so easy
Wow!! Great information
Thank you!
You can use any leafy green. The brush is just an art brush I got on clearance at a local art supply store. It was about $1.25US
Thanks
I like this idea, great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
I empty my dehydrated products into big disposable aluminum foil pan, with parchment paper in the bottom.
@@ThePurposefulPantry Thank you! Love your videos.
Wat is oxalic acid ? What problems do it cause
@@Grabtheone Hello. It is a naturally occurring substance in spinach and chocolate that is an anti-nutrient. Please look it up as I can't remember how it impacts people. My child has refused to eat spinach her entire life and much to my dismay, won't eat my homemade organic chocolates either. Well, after I get over the disappointment I realize I get to eat all the chocolate.
Oxalic acid can cause kidney stone and that can be a bad problem.
Just started watching, and excited to learn! How do you use the powders? Edit found your website with a list! Can you also use the green powder is just water and drinking? Like how they sell green powder to do that with? Second edit… I was too quick, and see now it says they do not dissolve in water. Haha. Thank you for sharing! Excited to try
Hi there I just came across your channel and glad that I did. Just subbed. Thank you for sharing how you dehydrate your greens and turning it into powder. The small glass jar at the 17:00 time stamp where did you purchase that from? I would like to purchase some of those. 😊
I wish I could remember, I have had it forever.
Just subscribed you’re fantastic!
Welcome aboard!
The first batch you put in a container for a few days, the second batch not, or did I miss something?
I can't wait for my greens to grow and do this. Thanks, great video!
13:50 - In that powder form, it seems like the dehydrator air movement would blow it around making a total mess.
Not if you put it in a contained bowl in the dehydrator and run it properly.
i pour my dried items from dehydrator all into a large plastic bowl... then it is easy to grab handfuls for blender and then pour the bits left in bowl right into your blender... keeps my area clean.
