Hi there - I was recently diagnosed with scoliosis. I was feeling really down about it but watching your channel so far has given me some hope. Thank you!
I recently found this channel, I just want to say thanks for all the info and videos you bring to the table. Awareness is not all there in the world and is hard to find reference for a lot of stuff. I'm thankful for people like you.
Hello from France! i wanted to begin some yoga sessions but due to my health problems (overweight, knee pain and scoliosis) i was ready to give it up. Very happy to discover your channel! sorry for my english:)
My back, neck, and shoulders are in tremendous pain right now. I'm literally cryinggg >:'/ Reading the comments down here gave me strength to survive. Thanks!
I do sun salutation and have no problem doing that...i have 27 degree lumber curve and 17 degree thoracic curve....an s curve eventually...should i perform sun salutation
Don't think of it as a limitation. That will dampen your spirits so quickly. Think of it more as a way to protect yourself. Our curved spines are already so stressed. We must learn to adjust our practice to accommodate instead of limit.
beautifully said. If your curve is mild and you're strong in general these poses might not give you any problems! It's about knowing what is going on for you and what you can do to adjust your practice as Erin said...
You said that headstands are not allowed for scoliosis. Does that mean you shouldn't do other similar exercises also. I mean something like a pike pushups. Also you said twists are also not good. What about the chair pose. In that you fold your hands and twist on both sides.
I have many issues probably all started with scoliosis... cervical herbia, lordosis (and maybe lumbar hernia too). I have been in pain for 1 year and it makes me losing hope😢 I am 33. how can I live like this more?
I had a spinal fusion at L 1-5, I used to do yoga but now 5months after surgery I feel like I should be doing something, but what positions can I do safe
I have a doubt, you didn't talk about this but I was wandering if it's ok to do the hip openers poses... I have a pretty light scoliosis on my lower back and I was wondering if this poses could somehow affect my lower back
Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🤍🧘. At 7:13 when discussing seated twists would torque on the concave side be beneficial. I think this pose would be great for derotation . I'm new to yoga and unsure about figuring out which side would work for each movement . But wouldn't that give space to the concave side and pull the rib hump in? 🤔
yes but it depends! First of all make sure you can lengthen before you twist. Then twist from the convex part of the spine without collapsing into the concave part. There are other ways to twist rather than the twist I'm showing which is really not one of my favourites for scoliosis.
@@MoveWithScoliosis I came back to rewatch this video after you replied to my comment. The warning about compressing your spine with certain poses really jumped out to me because a compression fracture at L3 was found on my x-ray. In my eagerness to progress I was pushing myself to accomplish poses I saw that were supposedly for beginners. I never thought about my rotation and the unique situation it presents when practicing yoga. Thank you for bringing awareness to it. From now on I will only be practicing yoga with your videos.
Super helpful fellow Christine - I'm learning a lot already! I've subscribed to your channel and was just wondering if you have any videos that speak to people like me with Harrington Rods, vs. spinal fusion? (116 degree S curve corrected to 68 degree S curve at age 19.) Thanks in advance!
Hello, I recently just found your channel and it's been eye opening! I am currently doing yoga, and I have a 34 degree scoliosis on my lower back. I have heard that personalized yoga (one on one session) can reduce a lot of the curvature, is it true?
Hi Christine, I'm thankfully now learning how to strengthen and move safely within my limits, so thank you for helping with that :) You said seated twists can be unproductive especially twisting away from/leaning into your curve, can I do gentle twists the other way? My thoracic curve curves toward the right side, so could I gently twist to face that side instead? Thank you for your wonderful work!
Thank you, it’s been on my mind. I feel like the practice of yoga saved me from being in total pain and I (too) could help others with the same condition
Shawn Johann absolutely! The world needs more yoga teachers! I would take a good foundation course and then you can specialize in working with those that have scoliosis!
At that age is really important to do the right things! Best to get an individualised programme for her or check out the playlist for all scoliosis curves on my channel!
Idk my curve. I do know my left hip rotates outward and my right shoulder rotates in. It feels like my right hip is shoved into my spine and my right shoulder is into my neck. I’m so miserable I want to cry. Starting to affect my circulation and my limbs are always asleep. I’m 36. Too young for this
Kavita Gaur in Kingston, UK. I don’t offer any YTT at the moment. I’m looking to offer an online training for teachers later this year though. You might also want to look up Elise Browning Miller in the US or Adelene Cheong in the UK. Great teachers that offer trainings
Shakira CM great question! Anything from 10 degrees and above is classified as scoliosis but the more severe your scoliosis and the rotation is the more mindful you would want to be in extreme movements. It comes back to how you feel in your individual body and knowing what effect each pose has on your spine
I didn't want to put in specific pictures because what is extreme for one person might be absolutely fine for another. Anything that you struggle to get into and where you can't counter your curve is a problem. Does that make sense?
Hi there - I was recently diagnosed with scoliosis. I was feeling really down about it but watching your channel so far has given me some hope. Thank you!
Fantastic! All the best
1. unsupported head stand
2. extreme backbends
3. asymmetric backbends
4. twists

Thank you so much for your kind words!
I’m so grateful full for your channel I have scoliosis at a young age soo it made me very Down but this video tells me I’m not alone
I’m so upset. I had to give up all of my favorite poses due to back scoliosis. Thanks for the video 🙏
If you build up enough strength and support you can do anything. Don't let scoliosis hold you back.

excellent! That's what it's all about. Supporting each other :-)
Thank you yogaberry! This is really helpful.. I have thoracic scoliosis.
Glad it was helpful!
never had problems with headstand pain but your right, better do full handstand on the hands instead of risks through the pressure.
and I don't want to take away any poses for anyone! If you're strong and can support yourself in an adjusted position then great!
Thanks so much for your channel.
Nice video, thank you so much
Thank you too
I do sun salutation and have no problem doing that...i have 27 degree lumber curve and 17 degree thoracic curve....an s curve eventually...should i perform sun salutation
I could do lot of gymnastic movement like before the surgery but after i cannot do them anymore i was litterly very good at gymnastics
yes, with spinal fusion you will have to adapt your movements considerably!
😢😢 Those are the poses I’ve been doing for years!!! Hope my scoliosis did not get worse!!!
make sure to keep an eye on it!
Thank you so much i ve always been looking for a chanel like your s and finally find you here.
keep it up 😍😘
Thank you, I will!
If my curve isn’t that bad can I still do backbends cause I used to do gymnastics
Damn, I didn't even think about the king pigeon... Having some emotional trouble with coming to terms with the limitation.

Ive been doing handstands and cartwheel and a bridge and back bends SHOULD I STOP DOING THESE?????

I'm so sorry to hear that you're suffering. These conditions don't mean that you have to live in pain though.

Hi Thanks for your vedios.I have lambher disc problem.and left scoliosis from the bottom of spine.Iam 69 year's old.
Sorry to hear that. I hope you find yoga to be beneficial but make sure to get the medical advice and help you need from your doctor too.
Can i do a bridge if i have skoliosis PLZ ANSWER🙏🏻🙏🏻

it depends on what you do! In general make sure you also work on stability not just flexibility

Hello ma'am I was diagnosed mild levoscoliosis lumbar spine can i know what exercises can i do for butt can cannot harm my lumbar Thank you
Hello, I am René, and want to join your experience.
Since head stands are a no no, does the same apply for hand stands?
Hello, I recently just found your channel and it's been eye opening! I am currently doing yoga, and I have a 34 degree scoliosis on my lower back. I have heard that personalized yoga (one on one session) can reduce a lot of the curvature, is it true?
Absolutely but it does depend on many factors. Make sure to find a knowledgeable teacher in your area.

I have a related question; in your opinion, knowing that I have a scoliosis (an S one) could I consider myself doing a yoga teaching program?
yes of course! I have an s curve scoliosis and it has not prevented me from becoming a yoga teacher

Is it okay to do twists in the opposite direction of the spines natural twist? Would that potentially be helpful to open it up or still hurtful?
not necessarily because somewhere below or above the main curve you will be going more into the rotation! Better to work on elongation.
@@MoveWithScoliosis makes sense. Thanks!
My 10 years daughter is suffering from lumber scoliosis. Can u suggest some yoga posters for her. She has c curve scoliosis.

Iam 18 yrs old and I have 45° scoliosis is yoga can cure ?
At 18 years you have a good chance to make a difference. Find a good teacher that you can work 1:1 with especially in the beginning!
@@MoveWithScoliosis can you please refer a teacher
I'm 18 to with scoliosis
My back is S shape upper is 20 and. Down one 46 and i am 40 any chance with yoga and swimming i am able to improve and no need of surgeon!
Is it okay to do reverse plank when you're having a mild scoliosis?
in general yes! If it doesn't cause you any pain! The spine should still be more or less in a neutral position
Thank u for ur videos .Is that possible to cure scoliosis after 20 years?
You can certainly improve your posture at any age!
Can we do hanging exercise?
great question! Only if your body is strong enough to support it. I would do too much passive hanging if your joints are weak and not stable...
Even if it is at 10%?

Yogaberry My daughter has scoliosis and a rotation. Its 6degrees but she gets alot of pain. Will show her this video thanku
Can v see pic of those poses

Don't listen to this. I'm a dancer with scoliosis and my doctor told me that nothing can make it worse, not even backbends or needles.
