I have never been diagnosed with scoliosis (I'm 38 years old) but a few years ago I had an acute back episode. Since then I have been very "aware" of the things going on in my spine. I have been in physical therapy for my back (I lacked a great deal of functional rotation) and no one observed or mentioned scoliosis. Lately, I've been with a trainer for which I do weekly check ins with pictures. I noticed that my waistline on the right is more hourglass while the left side is straighter. I filmed my self doing the bend over test and while I look level through the thoracic spine my left lumbar area set up a bit higher than the left. In one picture however my left shoulder set up higher while the right sloped downward some. Im self diagnosing but Im guessing I have a left lumbar curve as well. Im hoping mine however is partly due to muscle imbalances and previous injury as I had no obvious history of it before. Nor have any doctors or physical therapists made comment about possible scoliosis. I have been checked for leg length discrepency and everything looks level. I have had severe muscle spasms in my left side though compared to right. I would assume what is needed is to open up the right side (say a lateral stretch to the left) and anything like a foam roll or bolster to lay over- left side lying to passively open up the right side and push in the left side? Does that sound about right?
Hi and sorry for the late reply! I completely missed your comment. There is a difference between a functional scoliosis (due to for example overuse of muscles for years on one side) and a structural scoliosis (where the bones have actually changed shape. The good thing with a functional scoliosis is that it's much easier to work with and you can see improvements quickly! I would get it properly diagnosed by a doctor or maybe even just talk to a physical therapist. Lateral opening sounds as if it might be beneficial for you. Probably on both sides from what you say.

I am 41 and was diagnosed last Friday (Jan 25,2022) with scoliosis, the doctor did not specify what kind but my chiropractor showed me my x-rays on Monday which shows right lumbar scoliosis. My entire left side is drooped down and I am pretty slumped to the left side. I've been doing yoga for awhile now and came across your videos which have been helping while I'm at home. I'm in such excruciating pain and discomfort, I cannot sit without tears 😢. My spine also shows a twist in the vertebrate and I was born with spinal stenosis and have bulging discs in my L4/L5. Chiropractor also said there looks to be some degeneration. From my mid back down to my tailbone and to my feet all I feel is fire and shooting pain which is really messing with me. I also work on my feet but have time off till Monday coming up. Any suggestions on what else I should do? Please do not suggest an appointment with you. Hi I was diagnosed in 2013 with left convexity scoliosis, with that, they also said I had Degenerative Disc Disease, Haemangiomas on my Vertebra at the thoracic which they said are tumors, they said I had Osteoarthritis I was 37 yrs old I had another MRI in 2017 which detected more degenerative issues 2020 my latest MRI shows a huge change I now have Spinal Stenosis, Bulging discs left side and disc lesions, Osteoarthritis, DDD, Tumors, Further degeneration in my Spine. I am in excruciating pain I have had nerve blocks, spinal blocks but unfortunately, in 2019 I had a major operation for Prolapses Bladder and Uterus I had a hysterectomy and few repairs I was also diagnosed with a Tachycardia heart. I have Chondromalacia patella in my right knee. I have not started with extreme pain in my neck left side, I get paralysis some nights lose the feeling in my hands, arms, legs, feet. I am crooked my alignment is out I don't need to do anything it is noticeable especially with no top on. My hips hurt my lumbar itches and burns I can't walk very far or stand up for long, sitting hurts sleeping I have a memory foam cushion between my knees I can't lie on the left side I sleep on my back, mostly. I am being referred to a Musculoskeletal specialist and back to Pain management as the morphine patches are not helping and with my other meds on top. I have been told there is no cure and that I will end up in a wheelchair. I was knocked down when I was 10 a car reversed into me and knocked me front impact into a fence and ran over me I fractured my Femur, my ankle and ruptured my spine I was 2-3 cm off from being paralysed from the waist down. I have been in pain all my life but as I have got older things progressed and it wasn't until 2013 that I found out why. Exercise puts me in so much pain I struggle to move the next day for a week or two. Is Left Convexity bad as I have read Levoscoliosis is dangerous?
wow that's a long list of conditions! I'm sorry to hear that you're in so much pain. Scoliosis is only dangerous if it affects the organs and especially the heart and lungs. It sounds like you're under medical care and have MRI's etc so the doctors should be able to tell you.

if your lumbar curve is to the left it's very likely that the thoracic curve (if you have one) goes to the right. The best thing to do is to get and xray and diagnosis from a medical professional!

Robin Lloyd you might want to look at all other options, bracing, Schroth might be a couple. Yoga can also help but it all depends on how much you put in, degree of your curve, your age etc.
They are different types of treatments for Scoliosis. Google "Schroth Therapy" and "Bracing for Scoliosis". Try to get as much information as possible before you make a decision. Yoga can help with the pain, feel stronger and more balanced in body and mind.
you have mentioned that you have left lumbar scoliosis ... so as a result your right leg would turn out ......do you mean your right would be extend further forward from normal position or right leg gets shorter?
I never go yo a Dr and do not know where is my problem but on my back on the left dide is high and always have pains around my neck head and shouldre on the left
Nothing can really "fix" scoliosis unfortunately. You can certainly improve your symptoms if you're suffering from pain, you can improve your posture and appearance and with dedicated practice you might even be able to reverse the curve or at the very least stabilize it.
@@MoveWithScoliosis I heard about schroth exercises. And they say it reduces degree of scoliosis. (Even one of them, said that in one person, his/her degree was reduced from 42 degree to 27 degree.) Is it possible you know the fixing of scoliosis with schroth exercises?

I know there is so many videos in youtube but i don't know if there tutorial is truly beneficial or not.

@@MoveWithScoliosis thanks😁 i will and just an update i did the pillow on the side of curve it helps the pain on my lower back near on my butt idk how it happened but i'm glad.
Will anything help straighten out scoliosis such as back braces? Not doing surgery.
Robin Lloyd you might want to look at all other options, bracing, Schroth might be a couple. Yoga can also help but it all depends on how much you put in, degree of your curve, your age etc.
What do you mean by bracing and what is Schroth?
They are different types of treatments for Scoliosis. Google "Schroth Therapy" and "Bracing for Scoliosis". Try to get as much information as possible before you make a decision. Yoga can help with the pain, feel stronger and more balanced in body and mind.
Thanks for the info.
what if its in the mid .. does it come under thoracic or lumbar ... I am confused... Thank you for the video !!!
you have mentioned that you have left lumbar scoliosis ... so as a result your right leg would turn out ......do you mean your right would be extend further forward from normal position or right leg gets shorter?
I never go yo a Dr and do not know where is my problem but on my back on the left dide is high and always have pains around my neck head and shouldre on the left
That could be a number of things of course so best to get it checked out. You can also try one of the neck and shoulder videos!
My left side has curved.n left shoulder lean down.overall all left side prominent.means chest and curve.plz guide some exercise
Feel free to book an appointment if you're interested in working on a tailor made programme at info@yogaberry.net
The video assumes that I know what left lumber scolioses is, I don’t . Diagrams that shows what it means would help
Thanks for the feedback! I will try to make this clearer in future videos
Can i fix scoliosis with yoga ? I have lumbar scoliosis and scapular winging on the left shoulder and a leg longer
I have a 67 degree and nothing is different in my feet but I'm bent over like a teapot.
scoliosis comes in all sorts of different shapes!
any update on ur curve?
@@qluhz1k746 nope. I'm supposed to be out walking strengthening my core. But the pain is prohibiting me.
My right shoulder goes down a little more than my left and my neck leans right, what type do I have?!?!
that could be a number of reasons and not necessarily structural scoliosis! We would need more information and to do an assessment.
What if you have the scoliosis neck but no curve or curves?
only the neck?? Usually whatever goes on in the neck is a compensation to what happens lower down in the body in my experience.
Have you ever passed through a scoliosis spine fusion?
I am confused with left lumbar, is it a convexity or concavity
when I talk about left lumbar I mean convex to the left
Hello! I am afraid my scoliosis needs yoga teachers and doctors near to where I am. I feel worse.
make sure to join the Yoga for Scoliosis Community on Facebook. You might find a teacher near you.
@@MoveWithScoliosis Thank you. I felt desperate. I am not using Facebook for personal matters. I hope everything goes well. Is good for me to keep writing, reading, watching videos like yours, but more carefully. Kind regards from Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico. I am near to Texas, United States of America, almost in a border city. I can't travel to Cd. Juárez due to my condition. I wish you the best.
mam i am leaning to my right side i am in c shape i am 14
Hi! Thank you for the video! I did all this but still I'm still not sure on which side I should do side plank. Could you help me with that? So my right waist is straight and left is with dip; right shoulder is lower; and hump is on the right side of my back. Does this mean I need to do side plank on the left side?
Hi Juliette, I know this is a little confusing. Make sure to join our webinar with Dr Loren Fishman on 16th June! He'll be answering questions and going through the poses in detail. You can sign up here us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_c18rTO_CTY6JTa_G7paBZg
Question. Do you strengthen the convex side or the concave side?? Where my rib hump is consider the convex side but I feel it's all tight.
muscles can be short and tight and they can be long and tight! So really both sides need to be able to release. We strengthen the convex side more than the concave side but if you feel strengthening at this stage would just make it worse start with releasing. Here is a good one to start with ruclips.net/video/7iRaig6h1Bo/видео.html
I was diagnosed with mild curvature of the spine to the left and the left waist is curved. My doctor saidI did not have to undergo a physical therapy because the curvature is only 10 degrees. What exercise do I need to do?
Same
Wow i think with what you explained here i understood that i the same curvature as you but the problem is i have a tumor attached in my scoliosis and the growth is much, but i don't know the degree of my scoliosis and it has made me stop walking.
Please i want to know if i can walk again
