This is the first part of the presentation that I gave for the ArchiMentors Summit that happened last year. My presentation was centered around what a career in architectural visualization looks like, how I got into it, and what some of the day to day job looks like.
In this introductory part of the presentation I start with the basics of archviz and discuss what it is and how we use it. I also show some examples of different methods we use, including: real time animation, VR walkthroughs with VR, still renderings, rendered animations, drone compositing, 3d printing and more.
As I post additional parts of the presentation, I will dive deeper into some of the specifics of these areas, and at the end I even do a Q&A where I discuss many of the commonly asked questions about being a professional archviz artist.
This is a great presentation for anyone who is interested in working in archviz, or just wants to know more about the profession and career opportunities. I also offer resources for learning, and landing your first job.

I’m in the United States, I don’t believe a traditional degree in architecture is a good fit for me but I have a real love affair for architecture, art and design. Can anyone recommend a certificate program/or degree program that will allow me to pursue a career as an architectural visualization artist? Also, what programs are most heavily used or recruited for? I don’t want to learn auto cad if the industry is heavy with sketch up as an example. Thanks!

I've been inspired by both David and Adam's work and started teaching myself Arch Viz online for free/cheap - mostly through RUclips videos and SkillShare. 3ds Max is the industry standard software but its super expensive. I have an iPad and do most of my drawings in Procreate and some additional editing on Photoshop on my PC. iPad for Architects is a great RUclips channel where I am learning about Arch Viz on iPad.
After speaking to some local architects, it seems like there's a lot of contract work available if you are really good at Arch Viz and have strong understanding for color, perspective, and creating a mood that draws people in. They don't really care what software you use as a contractor as long as your work is good. It is also a job which you can work remotely from anywhere.
I hope that helps and best of luck on your journey!

AI is already helping me in several tasks, but for creating finished, professional work, out of thin air (or even from well developed models) it is usually laughably bad. It will be interesting to see how it develops.
