The first one might surprise you because it's usually not top of mind for most men, it's a woven or fabric belt. It's one of the most casual belt options out there and because of that, they really suit the summer relaxed casual vibe.
The second accessory worth investing in is anything regarding linen. Linen is a classic summer fabric. Why? Because it has an open weave, it wrinkles in a casual way, and the fibers themselves are a little bit irregular making it all more casual, and therefore, well suited for summer. On top of that, it's often lightweight and the more you wear it and wash it, the softer it gets so it's super comfortable. Some may argue that it looks a bit unkempt yet the wrinkling is part of the fabric and it's a desired side-effect unlike, let's say, with cotton or a wool suit.
The number three in my list are knit ties because they're hands-down the best way to add texture to your summer outfit. Unlike other tie materials, such as woven, or printed silk, or linen, the knitted silk is usually something you can only find in menswear and it's very structured and different. If you specifically wanna invest in one or two ties for summer, I'd make them knit ties and nothing else.
The fourth summer accessory that makes you stand out from the crowd are bow ties. Unlike ties, they cover less of your chest and therefore, wear cooler than a necktie. Rather than going with bold shades in pink and neon green, maybe turn it down a notch and go with lighter colors such as a buff base.
My summer accessory number five is a boutonniere. It is the little lapel flower and I'm wearing one here right now and it's one of the best way to earn compliments because they're so different, people usually don't wear them and even 99.99% of all florists out there don't even know how to make a proper boutonniere anymore.
My summer accessory number six is a Panama hat. Most panama hats come with a black hatband and a leather sweat band on the inside. I would substitute the one on the inside with a fabric because it makes you sweat less and on top of that, I changed the outside one to a different color.
Last but not least, probably my favorite summer accessory is a pair of good classically styled sunglasses. Of course, sunglasses are given in the summer but sometimes, it's hard to choose the right model for a classically styled wardrobe that's not boring and run-of-the-mill. With the strong heat, I find sometimes that dark frames in black or a dark tortoiseshell can be just too dark and don't fit in with the lighter color scheme of summer outfits. Because of that, I prefer a lighter tortoiseshell than a darker one.

I live in Rio de Janeiro, so It's warm almost all year round. I used to "melt"inside my suit during summer, when it's over 40ºC or 104ºF, but since I have started watching Gentleman's Gazette I got a linen suit, which I use during summer. It is still warm, but my skin can breathe much better now!

    • @foolthe49
      @foolthe49 3 месяца назад

This is a helpful comment, because where I live, I get the same temperatures... and I am hesitant to risk buying linen suit, as I fear that I'll be swimming in my own sweat. For this reason, I dread summer as I can not dress well, though your comment gives me motivation to buy one and try it out.

    My favorites:
    1. Silk grenadine ties in blue/navy/rust. They fit perfectly with green, light blue & brown and off-white suit which are the dominant colors of summer.
    2. Wool Challis or Shantung silk bow ties. They physically give you more breathing room at the chest but keep the formality of a neckwear.
    3. Boat hat. A hard hat that is perfect for travel, regular sun shading and summer black tie.
    Informative video as always.

Sven, your videos are absolutely fabulous! Informative, insightful and authoritative, they are must-sees for all gentlemen and would-bes. I've got an issue I'd appreciate your input on. I have a pair of Black-Watch tartan trousers. I've worn them with a black blazer, white shirt, black knotted tie and black shoes and the ensemble looked pretty good, if not a bit somber. I've also worn them to a Christmas function with a black tuxedo jacket, white formal shirt, black vest and black tuxedo bow-tie. That ensemble looked pretty good too. Here's my problem: I don't go to funerals or Christmas parties that often, so I'd like to wear them a bit more frequently. I've a camel-hair jacket that I think would go well with the trousers, along with a white shirt, but I can't figure out what kind of tie to wear with it. I'm thinking a wine or burgundy silk tie. Also, what color shoes would you recommend? Cordovan, dark brown or black? Thanks!

What is a classic gentleman’s sunglass/sunglass company that offers models for those with larger heads and faces?
I’m finding it difficult to find in Persol, so I’m hoping you have some advice for those of us with 7 3/4 hat size and larger faces to match.

@@nursen2106 Thank you. It's hard to manage classic and finer accessories for the head and face when one has larger features. Hopefully Raphael will answer this so he can assist us more, shall we say, grandiose in features gentlemen.

Problem I have with linen is that few stores have any linen clothing and those that do have few options. No one has pants that are long enough for someone who needs a 34 leg.

Muscles and tattoos are my accessories for summer. I do mostly wear shirts instead of t-shirts, but that's it. Unless I'm attending a funeral, no suit in summer.

I've always believed knit ties were meant from the fall and winter months, due to its thick woven material.

@@BBS_Robski I work in a fashion company and like any color, every manufacturer has its own definition for standard and sub colors. So in olive we have dark olive, green olive+ olive green, bright olive, regular olive etc.
It also depends on the fabric or lighting how olive olive will show.

I have linen pants. The wrinkling sucks big time and is not desired at all. My linen shorts, t-shirt and shirt are comfortable though.

An accessory that I'd suggest would be boxers instead of boxer briefs or briefs, so that the three piece set isn't floating like a pair of battered weather buoys thanks to the summer heat. Unfortunately, while potentially comfortable, one can't go commando under some seersucker shorts, because the ensuing display would offended our fellow citizens' Victorian disposition.
