A vest is really not compatible for those if us who conceal carry. The vast majority carry strong-side "inside-the-waist-band" (IWB) with holster hung from the belt. With a jacket, a shoulder rig might be viable (if generally undesirable - less safe, slower presentation), except most shoulder rigs need to be anchored to the belt so the frame quickly separates from the holster. Appendix carry (AIWB) would also be blocked by the waist coat hanging over the top of the trousers. In the 20's and 30's, "vest pocket" guns were popular. Perhaps a vest could be modified to carry a micro 9, j frame, or a micro380.
I like how you've lighten up and said you'd speak softer words or avoid phrases like peasants and others from your past videos. I remember that was the main reason why I stopped watching your videos like 5-6 years ago. I just found this video today and your personality seems very different - warm and welcoming. Can't wait to catch up on some very good content 😄
A TV show from Canada that I would recommend for classic mens fashion prior to the 1920's is Murdoch Mysteries (2008- present), I would love for this channel to review its use of fashion by season.
I'm really happy a channel like this can be self-depreciating when appropriate. It was very well-handled. I'm also really happy to see a dapper gentleman who is clearly not afraid of tiny tie-knots. It's the type I've always tied, but in recent years I was worried it made me look a little stingy. I do like the look of a larger knot, not as large as a full Windsor, but it's reassuring to see my old type was never really bad. Watches... yeah. I've thought about wearing some crazy watches because, when I was a kid, I always wanted a computer watch, ;) but attention-grabbing is risky and status symbols... well, I have to say status symbols can be so gauche! XD
Sven (or anyone reading this), what are you thoughts on the leather backpack or backpack/briefcase converter? I am a college student who loves classic style but due to the large amount of books I have to carry as well as a history of shoulder pains, I tend to prefer a backpack for my commute by cycle. It does clash a little with the general style of my outfits. What would you suggest as other good alternatives?
Do you wear jackets to class or do you still wear polo shirts? If you wear polo shirts, I guess a backpack might be alright. If you go with a jacket, I have no other opinion other than use e-books and wear a briefcase.
Go on with the packpack. It might not look stylish, but better for your health. I admit I go around in a suit and a backpack (for the same resason you do, books and a heavy laptop).
If you are wearing a suit jacket, sport coat, or blazer and still need to use a leather backpack take off the jacket while wearing the backpack. It will also help protect the jacket from excessive wear and tear caused by the backpack's straps. An option may be a satchel bag in leather and/or waxed canvas like those found in Carbon2Cobalt. Alternate which shoulder you wear the strap over to balance the weight over time. Sinch the strap as not to have the bag too low. It should be above your center of gravity. Have the bag under the shoulder facing away from the street with one hand firmly holding the bag by the handle.
Really interestinh video. I find myself surrounded with people doing almost all of these mistakes, mainly: On turkish weddings everyone "dresses up". Sadly, that means wearing way too tight trousers/suits, wearing belts with wests and wearing a 2 in 1 tie and pocketsquare. I understand people don't have the money to buy custom tailored suits or dozens of pocketsquares. But I would say it is better not to wear something (in this examples don't wear the west and pocketsquare) than to wear it wrong
Mr Schneider I am watching lately a rerun of Hart to Hart where you see Jonathan Hart sporting nice clothes but one accessory he wears often and that is the neckerchief. I know it's not classic accessory of the 30s 40s but yet out of curiosity what do you think about it?
The funny thing is: Back in the day peasants dressed better than most people today. I know that may come across as rude, but truth be told, even if it is hard sometimes.
They did like i do today. My grandma came from those depression Era days. Wear the same suits an take care of them. Im very surprised how high quality my items are. They seem water an stain proof. I just hope there is a low cost way to dye velvet cause I want the flashy bright black color back.
@@anatolystepanovichdyatlov1747 I have decided to not continue with this joke as it will only diminish the spontaneity and “dope” factor of it. P.S. As a non native English speaker I am very proud of this comment and I do in fact now consider myself as above the average person.
Ah Sven! This was a real treat to see you review yourself lol. You're a good sport with integrity to give this a go. You are indeed a dapper gentleman. That vintage tweed jacket is glorious!
Great video, and nice to see you cracking up and able to have fun being self-deprecating :) A couple points though: Sunglasses: Sports style sunglasses may be slightly more casual but they suit the face shape for many people including me. Wayfarers and aviators look great on guys with more square faces and large noses, but look awful on me. Backpacks: I think you alluded to this a little but leather backpacks can look good. I have one I bought in Morocco and the straps look like braces . Belt with vest: I'm conflicted on this one. Agree a shirt gap then belt doesn't look good. However, most people don't seem to be aware of this rule, and friends have said they don't see anything wrong with the belt and vest look.
Please make a video about the style of two very peculiar gentlemen, Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson! Their style has changed with every interpretation of the characters by the various actors... And not just Cumberbatch and Downey Jr! Iconic Sherlock Holmes actor Basil Rathbone appears in Dressing the Man and another book by Alan Flusser. I hope it's food for thought and you make a video like you did for Kingsman.
Each time I hear that men should never wear cargo short, make me laugh (specially when you show somebody camping). Short are good (specially in hot countries), cargo short are best when you traveling in nature or camping.
The problem is going overboard with it. A haversack, belt pouches, fishermen's vest or surveyor vest would do. Objects weigh more below your center of gravity. Another problem the more storage space a person has the more items they are never going to use are put in the storage space. I and other bushcrafters have earlier in our hobby have been guilty of this. I do have a few cargo shorts and cargo pants compared to my regular outdoor shorts and outdoor pants. When I do wear them I'm not carrying a haversack but a backpack and keep my wallet, keys, multi-tool, a Bic lighter, maps, base plate compass, pencil, and a small notebook in the cargo pocket.
I think Raphael's outfit in the reaction video, (not the original video being critiqued), is one of my favorites. I like the combinations of colors and patterns.
Thanks - I really enjoyed that. Life’s too short to be negative about things. Better to try to improve yourself and hope someone follows you along the way
Great video Sven, I love your content. Whether this is just personal bias or not I don’t know, but I’ve always liked the Windsor knot on a tie. To me it’s just much smarter and more uniform. I feel the half-Windsor looks shabby and unprofessional (not that it is, it’s just how I feel wearing it). If it is tied well, the Windsor knot can be one of the most beautiful knots out there for its elegant simplicity.
Cargo shorts solve the problem of pockets in the summer, and they're very practical for hiking or just carrying a greater set of 'essential items' with you when it's hot. Regarding backpacks, they're really helpful for cyclists getting to work. You don't always have (or want) a weighty cargo mount solution on a commuter, but a laptop bag is something you can do.
I got your humour in the first vid, it seemed obviously tongue in cheek but making your points clear. I have never looked at backpacks the same way again, so thanks for that.

Only half way through this video and find it kind and happy......thumbs up :-)
A TV show from Canada that I would recommend for classic mens fashion prior to the 1920's is Murdoch Mysteries (2008- present), I would love for this channel to review its use of fashion by season.
XD
The old Raphael was more sarcastic sounding, loved the dude 👍
This vid was some lighthearted fun. Definitely do a few more reaction videos.
One of your best videos to date. Great that you've listened to comments and then put this together. Oh and keep the intro :)
Always take care for your back and your health.
Ending up in a wheelchair will never get stylish.
I loved this video and had much to laugh, thank you!
I really liked your voice tone in this video, more chatting than presenting the subject. Always love your videos, but in this one I felt so at ease
Mr Schneider I am watching lately a rerun of Hart to Hart where you see Jonathan Hart sporting nice clothes but one accessory he wears often and that is the neckerchief. I know it's not classic accessory of the 30s 40s but yet out of curiosity what do you think about it?
For the record, I found the peasant comment hilarious both times. And I'm not very wealthy myself.
The funny thing is: Back in the day peasants dressed better than most people today. I know that may come across as rude, but truth be told, even if it is hard sometimes.
I would like you to record your command comrad dyatlov
They did like i do today. My grandma came from those depression Era days. Wear the same suits an take care of them. Im very surprised how high quality my items are. They seem water an stain proof. I just hope there is a low cost way to dye velvet cause I want the flashy bright black color back.

@@anatolystepanovichdyatlov1747 I have decided to not continue with this joke as it will only diminish the spontaneity and “dope” factor of it.
P.S. As a non native English speaker I am very proud of this comment and I do in fact now consider myself as above the average person.
I find that peasant comment quite ironic since the people using it as an insult are most likely descendants of peasants.
Ah Sven! This was a real treat to see you review yourself lol. You're a good sport with integrity to give this a go.
You are indeed a dapper gentleman. That vintage tweed jacket is glorious!
"Never wear sandals, especially with socks"

@Selim Mašić just a bit 🤔
I enjoy your channel and find that you offer old fashioned wisdom for everyone.
"accentuate your balls" had me laughing for at least a minute
Great video, and nice to see you cracking up and able to have fun being self-deprecating :)
A couple points though:
Sunglasses: Sports style sunglasses may be slightly more casual but they suit the face shape for many people including me.
I like that you have more of a sense of humor about yourself. We've all said things we regret and don't agree with anymore. It's part of life.
Thank you raphael for introducing me to menswear 💕
I enjoyed your unfiltered opinions in that video, keep them coming
That video is dapper!
At this rate we can make a spin-off magazine, the Dapper Cadaver.
I approve this rather 'dapper' message!
Whats wrong with the full windsor? half windsor is often lopsided and the full doesn't have to be huge or anything
*Sven reacting to a video by Sven where Sven is representing Sven's older video on "19 things men should never wear".*
Sven-ception.
Those boots are FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Please tell me you're talking about the boots he wears in winter with the fur lined 🤩
Definitely love the intro. One of the reasons I subscribed honestly. Great vid 👍
Keep doing what y'all are doing here
I got your humour in the first vid, it seemed obviously tongue in cheek but making your points clear. I have never looked at backpacks the same way again, so thanks for that.
I like the old intro It’s very classic, very timeless
Hemingway, Confucius and Sun Tzu. Words of wisdom told many ways. That 10 commandments is a good reference. Undoable I think. Great job young man. Best of wishes. New fan
