Aging is something that inevitably happens to all of us, but for men, middle-age is exciting but also feared!
    00:00 Introduction
When you really think about it, men should look forward to middle-age. We’ve learned lessons from our youth, we’re more secure at work, we’re more confident in our social situations, and we’re set up to enjoy life.
A gentleman knows that every stage in life has its significance and beauty, very few want to appear older than they actually are.
Aging is a common topic around the Gentleman’s Gazette, probably because we all age, and when it comes to clothing, there is the aspect of age appropriateness. Basically, all that refers to is styles and types of clothing that look particularly well on a person of a certain age.
Of course, the so-called rules aren’t intended to limit your spirits or creativity in any way. They’re merely a guideline to help you look your best.
Mistakes Middle-Aged Make That Make Them Look Old
01:46 Mistake #1: Behaving like times haven’t changed
04:06 Mistake #2: Gravitate towards very trendy haircuts
Of course, ideally, you talk to your barber and see what he recommends for you and your hair. In broader strokes, here are some concepts you might want to consider.
→ 07:02 1. Receding hairline? Focus on volume
→ 07:22 2. A "chopped" look will make your hair look denser
→ 07:31 3. It’s probably time to go with something like a buzz cut or a crew cut.
08:16 Mistake #3: Not Accepting your gray hair
09:33 Mistake #4: Ignoring your body hair
10:36 Mistake #5: Neglecting your skincare routine
    General Skincare Tips:
    → 13:36 1. Drink a lot of water!
    → 12:44 2. Get enough sleep!
→ 13:15 Wear sunscreen, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and use a moisturizer daily.
13:31 Mistake #6: Wearing clothing as a uniform
15:43 Mistake #7: Wearing flashy things
17:09 Mistake #8: Wearing clunky comfort shoes
    19:07 Mistake #9: Not embracing one’s age

The theory I like best is that hair starts slipping off the top of your head and starts to grow out of your ears and nostrils since it's easier for it to come out from a lower position... if that's the case, I wonder what the tops of your toes look like! 😁

This video really strikes a chord. Turning fifty was a real turning point. I accepted that my hair is getting grayer and i will never have the sculpted body I want. I get teased about wearing tuck-in shirts at neighborhood get-togethers but I just feel dumpy in a t-shirt and flip-flops. Sometimes I wear a tie even when I work from home. Others think I am crazy but being well-dressed makes me feel better about myself and I have no plans to stop. Thanks for another quality video.

I respectfully disagree with you on the sculpted body part.
Unless you have a disability, you can totally achieve the body you want. You will have to be more careful about what you eat than when you were younger, and you might have to workout more intensely, but you can do it. I guess it depends on what you consider “sculpted”.
50 is the new 40, haven’t you heard?

I also disagree on the sculpted body part, but I think dressing nice at home is a trend that should have never gone away. Even if all we typically do is accept a package at the door, there have been instances I've been unexpectedly visited by city employees, neighbors, internet service technicians, land surveyors, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc, and wished I had presented myself more professionally. Conversely, I've visited my own neighbors spontaneously and come to the conclusion that most people in my area live like animals.

Or an obvious toupee. My best friend in high school married a dark haired man; then years later, I ran into her at a restaurant and I couldn't figure out who the gorgeous man was that she was with. I thought she must have divorced her first husband and now she was with someone else, but no, her husband's hair had just turned gray. His undereye shadows were no longer obvious and his skin tone looked much brighter. Gray hair can make some men look much more attractive because it's kinder on their skin tone than dark hair.

There's the familiarity and comfort aspect. When you get "our" age (almost 56), you dress for comfort - especially May-September - in the deep south. Which means loose t-shirt, shorts, and crocs. Workplace is jeans/khakis with golf shirt and boots. It's almost unbearable for me to wear a long sleeve shirt now, let alone a coat.

      @janerkenbrack3373 3 года назад +17

@@user-iu1ru1qz7u I said above that I have a dozen pair of shoes. Just a normal rotation will keep most of them free from resoling for a very long time. So far, I've needed only new heel lifts on two pair. I never made the claim you suggested, and it says so above.
And the leather in the better pair can be moisturized and polished to the point of a keeping them and wearing them for a lifetime. And of course the appearance between the two is stark. Of course that may not matter to my former workmate, but it matters to me.
But the replacement every year was his idea. I can't say how often he wore them, but I got the impression that it was occasionally rather than often. Could they last him longer? Sure, shoe trees and regular care could prolong the life some, but not indefinitely. Poor quality corrected grain leather does not absorb lotions and polishes. The linings and insole deteriorate. This kind of shoe will need to be tossed and replaced. Annual replacement is not all that uncommon. And resoling is not an option on those shoes either. At that price point they are certainly cemented together, a process that makes them unrepairable. And the soles are blown plastic, which often cracks when people walk in them in cold weather. And consider the lack of support and the number that does on your feet. I wouldn't walk all day in a pair of those.
The idea of buying quality footwear and taking care of them is far less expensive over the long haul as I see it. And in the end I have some very nice shoes that look very good. Sure, where whatever you like, but I think life is too short to wear cheap shoes.

I'm 65 so I'm way older than "middle aged".
What got me through "middle aged" - young adulthood for that matter and continues today are motorcycles....European motorcycles to be specific.
    Nortons, Beezas, Beemers, Guzzis etc.
The best fashion accessories for me today are a pair of well built leathers, matched with boots, helmet and gloves and all accessorize correctly with my bright red Ducati.
Also own one in yellow and white which too accessorize with my ensemble without having to think much about it.
I highly recommend this anti aging strategy!

Definitely got my money’s worth on that purchase and kinda proud that at 52 I’m still fitting into a suit from my mid 20’s. Thinning hair and receding hairline is FAR from the worst thing that can happen to a man. My father-in-law (late-50s) insists on maintaining an 80's hair band mullet (now entirely gray) despite the fact that the bands have been defunct for decades and their members are dying at a significant rate. That coupled with his sleeveless shirts and baggy cargo pants is a painful sight.

Since most ppl don't wear suits everyday anymore alot of guys I see st weddings and what not have of the rack suits that haven't been altered to their body type and they look awful.i get compliments at these occasions for looking good in a suit and I know its only bc most guys there have unaltered while mine is custom fitted. So simple and yet so many guys don't realize how much a difference it makes.

    • @tjsogmc

Agreed. I buy brand name suits at thrift stores for usually under $20 and take them to get altered. My seamstress charges $45 to alter the pants and jacket. It's worth every penny. I often get compliments on the look - everybody thinks I spent thousands when in fact I have less than $65 invested. I also get my shirts trimmed ($10 each) so no more "muffin man" look at the waistline. Again, worth every penny.

This video is great. It definitely helps men to know how to feel better about themselves regardless of age. There seems to be this false believe that to dress well you have to have alot of money; this is simply not true. Like the old saying goes, knowledge is power; all you need is the knowledge of how to dress, and where to purchase quality clothing for a reasonable price. I buy most of my clothes from eBay, or other second hand stores, for a fraction of the price of new. And I have learned a ton about dressing, and menswear, from Gentleman's Gazette.

Actually, I'm 50, and I never feared losing my hair. I come from a family of bald men - my father, my grandfather, my uncle, my brother, all started losing their hair pretty young, so I never gave it too much thought, you can't win over genetics I guess. So when my hair started thinning, I went for a fully shaved head and a beard (which I keep about 6-8 mm long). I think it's a great look for men, and it can even make you look younger - in my case, even if some white hair started slowly creeping upon my beard these days, people often think I'm in my early 40s instead of being 50.

Cashmere and specifically camel hair are softer fibers. Any wardrobe will benefit from rotation and not wearing the same thing day in, day out. That being said if all else is equal, camel hair with wear our faster than cashmere, which wears out faster than tweed. Wool is generally a bit more durable, but it all depends on the weave, the weight, the quality of the fiber etc. A low quality cashmere blazer will pill much more quickly than a higher end one...
