I like these types of videos. Makes you guys, Preston and Raphael, much more human. They weren't born with knowledge of style like none of us. It is just something we like and a passion in our lives.
I have always felt my years of wearing low quality products has left me with an appreciation for things that have better value and make me feel better.
Hello, Preston. A dermatologist on RUclips said the time to put on antiperspirant is at night to give it time to seep into the glands. Putting it on in the morning can cause it to be prematurely wiped off before it has a chance to work. I hope this helps.
Your teenage attempts at style were still wins. The fact that you even wanted to be put together is wonderful and the garments weren't fails either! 🤗🤗🤗
I love Preston! He is the absolute best. Eloquent words like Leonard Cohen, styles near as sharp as Django Reinhardt. A timeless look with an old soul mindfulness. Preston is a class act.
Mihai Konta Honestly they don’t look bad on their own, it’s just that their clothes to me comfortable in and naturally people won’t go crazy about styling them.
Dear Preston, concerning the shirts I would like to advise you not to get rid of all the oversized ones (if you plan to do so). We have to bear in mind that most men get a bit more sturdy in the second half of their 20s or at the beginning of their 30s. Sometimes you can estimate the changes of your body when you look at the development of older family members that have your bodytype. So if you want to save your investment, single out those shirts which might fit later and store them away savely. In my early 20s, I bought a lot of extra slim fit shirts which I had to replace sucessively after becoming 25. Fortunately I was able to sell the smaler ones at a resonable price. On the one hand, that gave me the oportunity to optimize fit and style, on the other hand it was a big investment.
i wear mostly street fashion and urban wear but i learn alot from this channel and try to incorporate things here and there to elevate my style even more so keep teaching me!
I too suffer from hyperhidrosis and found that wearing a thin padded undershirt has extended the life of my shirts from a few months to a few years! They are a great option and pretty cheap on amazon but avoid extra thick padding, as it is of lower quality. Best thing about it is the boost in confidence when you take the jacket off and there are no stains on your nice shirt. Keep up the great work
This was a great video. I really appreciate Preston being so honest about his sartorial journey. It takes a lot of courage to be so honest regarding his missteps and to share them with the world. Great job, keep up the good work.
My son was in band starting in 6th grade. The required tuxedo dress for each concert was a great experience (aside from the musical experience and the performance experience). Despite being extremely shy, he was able to excel in music and to present himself well from then on. Now he teaches band and performs when he gets the opportunity.
Have you tried undershirts? Cotton for starter. Then there is wool. Wool absorbs every well. Ultrafine wool jersey undershirts found at Rambler’s way. A US company. Husband switched to that for summer and he actually feels cool. Wool wicks and evaporates. No smells. Just do not wear chemicals underarms as those deteriorate the natural fiber. I am a pro handspinner so use wool a lot.
Thank you Preston and everyone at Gentlemen's Gazette. I also have a sweat issue. I've learned sooo much in the last month since I discovered your channel. I put a video on then, end up watching 10 videos 😆. Thank you again gentlemen. You're very much appreciated.
I find that clinical antiperspirants work for me. I use them at night at a time when I'm not sweating. Also if I'm using aluminium deodorants, I wear an undershirt so that I don't have to deal with yellow stains on my white dress shirt.
That was a great wrap up. Particularly appreciated your experience of the hair and perspiration products. Totally relating to your online shopping disappointing moments. I’m amazed when I think about my own disappointments how I would go back in and make another order, forgetting reality in favour of an attractive price or photo. Always learning.
My favourite pair of shoes are a pair of light beige Penny loafers from British Passport. I’ve had them since 2015, and the thing I notice about them is that over time, they have actually become almost fortified, rather than worn. I take good care of them, treat and polish them, and never wear them in wet weather. But both the shoes themselves and the leather sole, have become more robust over time. And I can’t stress enough the Blundstone line for a work or casual boot. They’re as warm as a winter boot, but still suit 3 seasons (I’d avoid them in the summer). They’re also waterproof. They can be worn with a wide range of outfits, and they’re very comfortable for even long walks.
There is a helpful addition to your dressing, called undergargarment shields. They can be stuck onto your undergargarments and absorb sweat to keep your shirts dry. You could also try wearing natural fibers, they usually breathe better from my experience. Thank you for talking about quality in shoes and the toxins in mens toiletry products.
You need to upgrade from Old Spice deodorant! I love Schmidt’s brand, specifically the Charcoal and Magnesium one. They sell it at a lot of Targets but it is more natural and works way better than most “natural” deodorants I’ve tried.
Another hyperhydrosis sufferer here, but mine is limited to hands and feet and it runs in the family. I sweat under the arms, but it's a normal amount. Anti-perspirant is the work of the devil and used to make my armpits itch like crazy. It also ruined a few items of clothing. I now use deodorant and it's surprising how hard it is to find now. I can only get Old Spice in the shops.
Marko Dabrowski Thanks, I'll look out for it. The smell of Old Spice is an acquired taste! I know it wears off but I'm getting sick of the smell of it when first applied. I know there's probably much more choice online, but it's nice to be able to just pick up this kind of thing in a supermarket along with shaving lotion and face wash etc.
preston!!! i too sweat quite a lot under my arms. but last year, i tried out the thompson tee, and it changed everything. don't worry, this is not a product advertisement and i'm not getting paid anything by them for this message. their undershirts are made from a specially thick fabric under the arm pits that literally blocks any sweat coming through. i've been using them for close to a year now and it's worked wonders. i don't use anto-perspirants any longer, and i don't have yellow pit stains either. please check them out and even consider giving them a try. i think you'll like them a lot.
I'd like to point somethings from this vídeo: I hve decreased a lot my usage of deodorants and feel much better; sure the quarentine plays a big part on that, but even prior I was already actively thinking and working in using less and less, specially after noticing that some of my shirts were ruinned in the armpits. You look nice in that black hat, a bit too formal, sure, but it gives you a classic detective look which I find awesome!
Preston, I think for your condition you might wanna try wearing a Thompson tee undershirt. I heard they have some special system to stop sweating, but I've never tested them though. Just a suggestion.
I switched to Dr. Squatch after learning about the potentially harmful stuff. Since then, I've been weary about not only soap, but also food. Especially carb heavy stuff.
Knowledge is power when it comes to your health. Many of my family members have had cancer so I am cautious of ingredients. Many cheap soaps shampoos conditioner etc have cancer causing ingredients
I'm not sure why people haven't figured out that there are things you just don't buy online. Clothes being chief among them. I mean, at least if you're wanting a good fit, etc.
For my money, the 2 most reliable underarm deodorants are: - A) shaved, freshly moisturized armpits; - B) natural, breathing fabrics. Never had a notable smell issue since adopting that combo. I'll still use mild deodorant every now and then, but it almost feels like a belt + suspenders kind of precaution. When I do get a little sweaty (typically hot weather, or wearing layers in crowded public transportation,) I actually favour carrying a small pack of disposable wet wipes.

Hey man, the Thompson tee is the best product ever. Might seem expensive, but once you try it, I feel that I would pay double for the confidence it provides.
I love the part of the shampoo and deoderant part. I am not sweaty usually, but after taking medicines, I do sweat a little more. I am going to try some of your tips. Especially regarding conditioner instead of shampoo every day. I do got dry skin, so hopefully it helps 🤞🏻
This channel has taught me so much, and I've only watched two videos so far. Ha! I might have to replace my old concert tees with some more classy attire.
I just got my first suit and dress shoes. I’m pretty happy with the suit but still battling with my self-criticism on it. I can’t complain at all on the shoes though, I got the Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenue in black. I think the suit jacket is just a hair too tight in the midsection and in the sleeve diameter, and the sleeve pitch might be off for me. The button doesnt quite pull, but gives a slight line on one side when standing (slight enough it could likely be corrected with a shift of the button) and the sleeves just wrinkle a bit more than I would like. I feel like I’ve started in a good direction though, and can’t wait to explore more styles and get another jacket some day, and hopefully improve each time over.

I moved to the US 10 years ago, and ever since ive struggled to find mens wear at a lower price point. I used to get staples in reasonable quality, then with some upgraded items mixed in. Ive been too busy working to have time to find proper stores. Either it was far too expensive, $2,500 for basic suit a j.o.banks, or far too low quality, walmart, sears etc. What is a good lower-mid range mens store, that is not too low quality, where one can get some basic items, while still not look like bottom of the barrel?

I know you don't like antiperspirant. I sweat a lot as well. I have hyperhidrosis too. I found sweatblock wipes and antiperspirant. Both work great. However, there is aluminum in the products.
Hey Preston, why don't you have your shirts tailored? It would be pretty easy to do. Also, if you learn how to do it yourself, you'll see it's easy and not so long to do, and cheap.
My first suit is a three piece indego with contrasting polyester shawl lapels in grey. The jacket is a single button and the cut is a little too deep so it doesn't look too good without a vest. The fabric also felt very cheap, it's almost plasticy and have a weird pattern. To be fair I wanted to wear it for a wedding when I was merely 14 years old and had very little knowledge on suits as a whole. I do use the waistcoat and trousers occasionally but the jacket is practically impossible to be worn as a suit seperate
A tip to improve how your pants look on your build if you don't want to slim down is to get your pants pressed. It allows for clean lines and a less baddy look even on fuller cuts. This advice goes even for your other pants, I think it'll look better on you. 🙂

Honestly sometimes you just need something to get by. If you can't afford a good suit you can't afford a good suit. Ect.
A tip to improve how your pants look on your build if you don't want to slim down is to get your pants pressed. It allows for clean lines and a less baddy look even on fuller cuts. This advice goes even for your other pants, I think it'll look better on you. 🙂

Keeping it real. Learn so much more on what not to do.
I am now in a position where I can't afford to buy cheap clothes. Sometimes when you are a student and need things 'right now' you have to, though.
I live in Texas, try the Thai Stone for deodorant. Works well for anti-stink.
oh hey, I have a Country Gentleman fedora too! Mine is a little higher quality and is grey though.
