I am 72 years old and have gone from a 54 inch waist to a 38 inch waist in about 2 years. I am relying on your channel to get me back on the right track as far as clothing goes. I have really just started to replace my fat boy wardrobe with some more age, and size, appropriate fashionable clothing. Thanks for all the great suggestions and advice. I am regaing my confidence with the ladies also thanks to you!
I am 62 years old. About a year and a half or two years ago I made a conscious decision to improve my style. For most of my life I had dressed as casually as possible, but I decided that in my sixties it was time to start looking like an adult. I enjoy dressing up now when the occasion calls for it, but for my everyday wear it has just been a subtle upgrade. Polos and henleys instead of t-shirts and sweatshirts; chinos instead of jeans; leather shoes or boots instead of runners; flat cap instead of ball cap. Nothing crazy-I don’t look like an overdressed dandy or anything, but I can guarantee that I dress better than 90% of the guys around here. I’ve had several positive comments from both women and men, and I feel great about the way I present myself now. For a signature piece… I guess I would say my hats. Usually a flat cap or a straw trilby in hot weather.
Asta 39 years old Brazilian, I'd say my most basic piece of clothing, my real jack-of-all-trades, is the twill cotton chino pants. I love me some jeans, but chinos are just more confortable, lighter and keep me cooler in hot weather. They can be dressed down or almost all the way up, depending on shoes, shirt and layering choices, so it's very hard to make them look out of place or "too much". They come in many, many colors (and shades of colors). Last but not least, they immediatelly elevate me and make me stand out - in a good way.
Signature piece of the moment: handmade brown leather belt I got in Spain. It has a subtle multi-color strip that runs the length. I used to only wear black accessories but I’m venturing into browns if the quality Is undeniable
I've always steered away from browns, as well. I used to have a couple brown shades in my dress clothes wardrobe but virtually nothing in my casual. I've also started adding them in. The acid test for me is that I have to like the item at a very high level regardless of color. Then I find myself actually wearing it.
Once again…. I want Anson to know that I bought 5 belts a few months ago .. I didn’t know RUclips that well and didn’t click link, but you are the reason I went there.. and will be returning.. i love them
All of the above defines me now after watching your channel for many years. Button up shirts, sports jacket, dress boots & loafers. The only sneaker I even consider wearing is a driving shoe when I take the car out of the garage for a back road drive. Thank you John for helping me dress better and making me a better man.
I've got the chino's look down, but for everyday casual I've been layering. I've been wearing a solid synthetic tee with a short or long sleeve shirt over that. In colder months I dip into my collection of shirt-jackets and overshirts for a third layer. Then regular jeans and a nice leather shoe of choice. I like the ease of switching a few things around for a different look.
Just for the record, I'm 75. Signature piece: I own about 8 different 5-pocket jean style pants in colors from off-white to black. It's a toss-up as to which color of the following two I think best represents me. It would be either dark wash blue or a medium brown. If you asked me for a signifying top piece, it would be a crew neck sweater that coordinated with either of those two pants. By the way John, I agree with you about Anson belts. They are fantastic merchandise. In addition to being a quality product, their service is superior.
For me it's a classic single breasted navy blue wool blazer. Goes with practically anything and looks distinguished in pretty much every situation and gathering. Loved this video - so many great tips packed into a short run time!
Another awesome video John. Your "quality over quantity" remark really hit home. A few years ago I decided to get rid of most of my clothes and start over again. My theory became that I would have only a few very high-quality pieces that fit really well. Its worked great. Also, I have been an Anson customer and you are right, the belts are great. Only thing I wear.
I think at the moment a signature item for me is probably a new charcoal walking coat. It's pea coat style (wide collar, deep slash pockets) but only single-breasted. That slight alternate detail is a signature characteristic of my style (tipped, zip placket, or button front polos, contrast stitching, unusual color like a grey leather racer jacket, etc.). I like clothes that are different without being weird. The coat has akready received a compliment and I've only worn it briefly once or twice so far. It also helps that it fits like it was made just for me.
My navy blazer is the perfect piece that seems to fit and match all shirts and trousers in my wardrobe. This is followed by my Crockett and Jones Alex black calf smart shoes as well as my Bibury Earth Green suedes.
John, excellent video. You're relaxing right into it and walking the talk. Respect. My one special item(s) would be my coats, from sport coats to a leather jacket, suede jackets, and a ribbed harrington jacket. I can wear these a lot due to local temperatures. They make a helluva difference. Shoes count big time (so does everything else).
I prefer to dress for the occasion. I have my formal clothes for work, my casual clothes for the other days but sometimes I just enjoy to wear my jeans and sneakers.
I'm 44 and trying to be more distinguished in how I dress. That said the piece represents me the best is my thick leather bomber jacket (I have one in black and brown).
I wish I dressed more like my dad or even grandpa. Those guys were always dressed well with classic style. My dad would wear t-shirt and shorts around the house but go get dressed in chinos and polo just to run errands. My grandpa had that old school style with slacks, cardigans, and fedoras. That style has been lost in my generation but I've headed that direction more as I get older.
Great video. Nice top you are wearing, John. Strangely enough, I like suspenders. I am 66, and some great suspenders with a knockout outfit, really puts paid to the naysayers.
Another great vid 👌 - Strangely my favourite piece are my dark slim fit jeans 😂 absolutely agree just a simple shoe ware change can bring a different outfit 👍🤜🏻
I bought several pairs of dark washed denim and now I’am completely bored with them 🤷🤷. Have worn a couple pairs of my gray dress pants on those days 🤣🤣.
I am 55 and wear only slim fit but it’s due to my frame, overall I’ve always been slender, just don’t wear them skin tight like the kids tend to do…and never wear “skinny” jeans…find a fit that’s flattering but with a little room…due to my frame other type of jeans seem to look too baggy and very sloppy…
No, they are completely fine. The super tight skinny fit is out. Depending on body type, anything from slim, athletic taper or straight fits are where it’s at.
@@40OverFashion Sir Levi's 511 is my go to denim from past several years, but i get confused with the current trends of straight fit, loose and baggy kind of jeans. Which i do not like, current trends somewhat have certain impact on our preferences.
as I'm listening to this I'm trying to decide should I go with my jiggypoof lime green shirt or my tye dyed Pokémon hello kitty collaboration limited edition shirt
I used to like anson belts but but noticed the buckle protrudes too much. My lady friend noticed it every time we hugged, it would bump into objects if I were to scoot through a crowded area and because the buckles have corners my T-shirts and polos developed holes.
I like to dress well, but I don't like the idea that some clothes are not anymore for me, because it's not "age appropriate", even if I am not anymore a teenager. I want to dress as I like, sometimes very classic, sometimes more "trendy". I don't care if some people think I am trying too hard, because in my opinion it's not forbidden to wear Converse sneakers when you are in your 50's, or to buy some clothing from American Eagle (or similar brands).
Well everyone has agreed with you, so I feel is my duty to say no to those sweater polos, unless you wanna add years to your look. I would add, do not fold your jeans so high that you look like you borrowed your sister’s capris; unless of course you intend to seem that way for some reason.
When you dress nicer people automatically give you a bump. You are different you have pride you arent another tshirt wearing cargo pants guy who has given up

What best defines me right now? Not one piece, but complementary pieces - i.e. burgundy socks with teal chinos.
Currently loving my J. Crew cable knit shawl collar cardigan in navy

Thank You for continuously updating our taste of dressing to level which is wide acceptable!
Currently, button-down shirts and chore jackets define me. Enjoyed the video as always.
Those are both great choices! Thank you!
Classic styles in neutral colours are always a safe bet! My favourite is brown with its numerous shades, from cream to chocolate.

I love my chinos. I rarely wear jeans, and when I do, they’re dark blue. I also have a pair of dark grey jeans.
Great videos - especially for those of us wanting to try out incremental changes. That's the key for a lot of us old guys out there.
It's all about gradual improvements! Thanks for commenting!
Currently enjoying wearing shakets, I now have a couple in blue & green

Cashmere sweaters and blue jeans during the winter
Polos during the summer
I have suits and dress casual
I'm loving a brown corduroy chore jacket I picked up from BR factory at half price !
Nice score!
That would be a sports jacket.. :)
Thanks John.

Redwing Blacksmith Boots...x2 pair. Corporate pilot and they are just dress enough to get away with.

I challenge you to rethink the suspenders unless you weigh 300 lbs
Polo shirts,Ralph lauren polo shirts.I have a lot of them, and i wear them the way most guys wear T shirts.
Those went out of style 25 years ago
Another great vid 👌 - Strangely my favourite piece are my dark slim fit jeans 😂 absolutely agree just a simple shoe ware change can bring a different outfit 👍🤜🏻
Thank you!
Killer blue shirt!
Linen pants for Sydney spring and summer
Light plaid dress pants
Nice!
Every time I see a dad walking with his young son and they are dressed exactly the same, it makes me a little sad.
Ha!

John Wick had a good look

Love the shirt you’re wearing in this video. What is it and from who?
It’s from Weston Bouchér.
The way I try to stand out is with a hat to be more specific a fedora
Lmao have you perfected m’lady yet?😂😂😂
I like handsome blue shirt.
Glad to watch this video, i have a question which is common though nowadays. Are Slim Fit Jeans are out of style for men over 40?
