I have a Stetson Back Bay. I get plenty of compliments on it. Twice I have had people yell from their cars how good it looks. I look forward to summer so that I can wear it!
Nick looked hands down the most dapper in the Borsalino imo . It and the Optimo John was wearing were my personal favorites of the hats shown. I like hats with a tilted down brim in front.
Review Akubras! They are Australian, make all kinds of hats, and their felt hats are both superior to & cheaper than modern Stetsons because they are basically waterproof and can be in the rain unlike other Stetsons of that price range (around $200). Get the Akubra Adventurer for Indiana Jones’ same style.
I believe I paid around $550 about 8 years ago for my Optimo straw hat. Yes, it is better than the $13 Costco hat made of 60% paper. The detail of the Optimo hat is amazing. The craftsmanship is noteworthy. While the Costco hat is functional and has its place, the Optimo hat is a work of art. My Optimo hat was a birthday present from my wife. Quite costly but I feel good about supporting Graham Thompson, the owner of Optimo Hats. He is a highly skilled artisan and craftsman.
I have the Big John from Goorin. It was discontinued and I'm now selling mine. Barely worn and like new. If anyone is looking for one hit me up. Size is medium, up to 71/8.
You should definitely look into the Hemp Special Edition Stratoliner from Stetson! It’s slightly more expensive than the basic Milan straw Strat but it’s all natural fiber and very nice wearing, very much worth every cent and a nice retro touch.
That's a really good idea! I prefer how the Two Roads Wynwood is a really flat brim over the slightly tilted up cowboy style brim of the Stratoliner, but I dig the idea of a hemp hat. Uh oh, here I go over to Stetson.com
The guy on the right at 1:30 with that particular type of hat is able to pull it off. No I wouldn't mistake him for a mafia don but at least it's believable as a casual summer outfit. The hat must fit you and it must be worn with nonchalance otherwise it makes you look like a dork who's about to attend a costume party.
At time stamp 1:24 John says straw fedoras are "out" while he himself is wearing a straw fedora. Did he mean straw fedoras are out for Nick or in general? Does he consider the hat he himself is wearing to be a fedora style or more of a trilby? I have a straw fedora that I like to wear very much in the summer. The hat John is wearing looks good on him so what is "out" about straw fedoras? Just wondering.
I can’t see a band on the hat you’re wearing, I’d go with a more defined band. I learned that shautang is made of paper. I have a Stetson shautang that I thought was fiber woven in Ecuador of straw and blocked in Mexico. Are all the strains made of paper?
"a high performance paper that is woven into a yarn to imitate straw. It is very fine, durable, and makes for a great hat for dress and everyday wear. "
@@Stridewise Honestly I’m kind of bummed out. I really thought I’d bought a straw hat made in Ecuador and blocked in Mexico. That said, it’s a decent hat that looks good and is comfortable. It’s not backwoven, and as it wears the pasted edge is coming loose. Although it’s a serviceable hat I wouldn’t buy it again or recommend it. If you do a follow up please show what a backwoven hat should feel like and should cost. Thanks for the info, even though it’s not what I hoped for its great info.

i have cheap straw hats i buy for under 10 dollars. they dont have leather bands, just a cloth band, but they do the job and look like more expensive hats just not any name brands to skyrocket the price.
that $105 Chinese hat, it's too coarse and unelegant for city wear, looks like something a farmer would wear, you want to go for that slave plantation owner look. Borsalino's a different story, Anthony Hopkins wears it in the movie
It's hard to believe that the host thinks we should take advice on straw hats from him when he starts with the dorkiest looking hat ever. Also, do not model in a shirt with its packaging folds still showing.
I was just in the middle of a conversation with a girl I'm dating about whether hats are OK. She's very anti hat and I was like no they're great, then I saw your comment and sent it to her. "Apparently I suck at wearing hats, actually"
Nick: So what you think about this Brixton hat??? John: It’s a floppy hat. If you are going to the beach and don’t care. Identify if you want to look floppy . Nick: But to be fair it’s only $49 … it’s pretty impressive. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 No dude!!!! It’s Not unfair to say it’s a stupid looking floppy hat …. I don’t matter what it’s made out of it Not impressive. It’s floppy hat Son. No man wants to wear floppy hat!!!!!! If you are going to invite somebody to you show who has expertise in something you don’t (otherwise why would you invite him to your show) contradict them. But go ahead if you want to wear stupid floppy hat and waste $49 dollars. To each his own 🤣🤣🤣🤣🥲
Most people look like tools not cool donning a straw hat . It must be broken in . Something you mow the grass in , pull weeds...When it gets worn , frayed , broken down a little , then its ready to be worn in public . The perfect accessory to go with the wrinkles of an aging face .
Honestly.... straw hats just look.... old..... I get the attempt at fashion with them.... however...... I think of grandpa 🤷♂️ It also doesn't look manly. Also looks VERY "city boy" vibe. I'm all for clean cut and refined.... this is too far for me.

I got the Stetson Los Alamos.. yes I get compliments on its style.. a true shade hat and a look that holds its own
My favorite for casual summer use is my Stetson Airway... Great for being out in the sun...

Just recently purchased a Scala Roswell. I absolutely love it and It really is the center of attention when I walk into a room.
Sure cause those are not meant to be used indoors
Ayooo we fuckin wit straw hats‼️‼️
Thank you guys.
i have two stetson, a wool felt stratoliner, and a silverbelly 6x open road. I also have an ultrafino brand panama hat. Love my hats.
I got an Akubra too to add to my collection!
I have a straw hat from Optimo Hats in Chicago. Excellent quality. I also have a $13 straw hat from Costco. Great value. My cutting the grass hat.
May I enquirer the price of the Optimio hat and if/why it’s better than Costco? Thank you.

Optimo is an amazing company with a great staff and an awesome owner.
John looks great with the beard.
Nick & John What a grat collabo
Nice video. stetson didn't make the hats for the Indiana Jones movies though. It was Herbert Johnson and Adventurebilt.
I'm a simple man. Nick post a video, I watch the video.

How about Ultrafino hats in Seattle?
Nick, come to Texas. We can get you in a really good hat in no time. It WILL not look like the ones in the video, but the ladies would love it.

I'll never water those plants Matthew! And yes I hope to collaborate with all of them for total domination, bwahahahaaa
check ultrafino hats in Lynwood, Wa.
I enjoyed the video.
Nick, being Aussie I would have thought you would have experience with hats?
Just Akubras growing up, but none since I became a man!
I'd buy you a fedora any time! (The 'hat' you referred to on Indiana Jones.)
Apparently in the US west coast, 'fedora' is an insult... 😄🤷🏻♂️
Haha it's an insult aimed at guys who wear them (a dress hat) with t-shirts and cargo shorts. When styled well, they're great!
Great video
Appreciate it man
@@Stridewise you are very welcome

Yeah he's talking about hats with brims that dip at the front and come up at the sides, that lean more professional/vintage
I want loofy hat ...😁
Wow Nick you sure can pull off wearing a hat…..you look great in that Borsalino!

ALWAYS wear a hat with a tilt to one side or the other. NEVER dead straight like these two! It’s a thing called “style”.

If near an Amish town they seem to make good practical straw hats for a decent price. Sold at. Certain shops like there country stores.
