Just a little note here..... that last sustain was THIRTEEN seconds long. That's an absolute *eternity* at that dynamic, particularly at the end of the show when you're flat out whomped. Crown rules.
Phantom Spartacus 2008 pretty epic, and dare I say it - the 2015 crown reveal and climb to redemption in the 2015 Inferno closer by Carolina Crown is stunning - those are my two favorites of all time.
2014 may have been the best year in DCI history. Felliniesque, T/LT, this show, Vanguard was hella good, even BK was doing good stuff, Blue Stars had their best show, Cadets were amazing, Cavies had a tight show and its IMO one of their best 2010s shows, Phantom did hella good with Swan Lake, and Boston Crusaders showed that BAC + pissed off = the hottest take in the history of DCI
The part that amazes me the most is the 16th note runs in the trumpet/baritone part. For them to play it that cleanly while on the move at this late in the show still amazes me. Such an amazing hornline that year that probably had a lot of good talent from 2013.
@@jakewithonions I love the brass. But I feel like this show dropped the ball in every conceivable way from 2013, which is my favorite show of all time. And this is one of my least favorite crown shows.
I love it when drum corps incorporate brass band pieces into their show. I absolutely LOVE Vitae Aeternum, which made me love this closer even more lol
This closer is more difficult than entire SHOWS I've seen and performed! There's so much fast-paced intricate movement going on that it's as if you're watching a kaleidoscope. Great vid!
Love this show. And this closer was the best segment on the field of any corps in 2014. A visual and musical feast. This is drum corps at its best. Very well done!
JAL89 I think a big part was the show was too hard. Honestly this how had the hardest music I've seen in a DCI show, with triple tonguing, sprinting and playing, 16th note runs, and really hard drill. Also yeah percussion fucked them over
All of the 12 corps in the DCI finals are frigging good, it is asame they need to be ranked. It's just a beautiful thing to listen and amazing to watch
Great show, and the brass line was AMAZING! I actually had Carolina Crown in 3rd after Finals. BD was, no doubt, the best and deserved the win. I might have had CC over BD in brass by .1, but the judge had BD in front by .1. Either way it was close for Brass. Two of the best brass lines I have heard in recent memory (since the early 90s Star and BD lines). Bluecoats rightfully grabbed the 2nd spot after being in 3rd for Quarters and Semis. The Cadets performers were super talented and early season I really liked a lot of aspects to that show. Come Finals I felt the staff had destroyed it with cheese and smut and ruined the GE in a big way. I think the judges were afraid to react as they should have though they did move Bloo up. But I would have had Carolina in 3rd, then SCV and then Cadets. I know Carolina struggled with visual concepts for most of the season, but I think they nailed that show at Finals. Them and the Bluecoats had the biggest audience reaction. CC's brass performance still rings in my ears as one of the most charged and proficient brass performances I've heard maybe ever.
The fact that this doesn’t automatically guarantee them 1st is a crime...an entire section of flawless scale runs and double touching sounding like one instrument...the judges don’t actually have any musical knowledge do they?!
I don't know, does it hold the mouthpiece in place? I remember one time launching the mouthpiece from my mellophone like a catapult when moving to "horns down."

Stagger breathing is a gem
Troopers 2011: that's cute
@@kotlingoddess 2010 Phantom Regiment: that’s cute
Not a single player held that note for 13 seconds. Be real
I didn't say any single player held for 13. I said a 13 second full blast sustain is incredible
This show was so ahead of its time. People weren’t ready for it
I was
rugbyplayer9100
Eh
how was it ahead of its time?? This is my favorite show of all time, I love this show. But its pretty safe
2014 was truly the best season in dci history.
That’s 2011 chief
@@ellasher3262 would you rather watch 5th place 2011 or 2014 tho? thats the real question. juliet vs ootw.

Mac 'N Cheese Juliet ofc
I’m here in 2018 and this is still the best closer ever to exist
Anthony Hines nah...it’s top 5 for sure, but the best closer is still Phantom Spartacus in 2008.
Jose Hill The one that gave me the most chills was obviously SCV 2009, Ballet for Martha
2020, and it’s still true

Bluecoats 2014 is my favorite closet of ALL time
the best fifth place show ever
Jacob Blackwell no....that was blue devils
evan cawthon they lose just because one thing that drum fall
Arif Rahman who knowss
Metamorph 11 was a good year for shows
The best 4th place show ever is Madison Scouts 1995, and then Cadets 2015.

The first thing David Bowie heard when he reached the Pearly Gates.

4 years later... still one of my favorite closers!!!!
How about 9?
I wonder how many picked out the "space invader" at 1:00. To me, this was better than 5th place. Beautifully conceived and artfully executed.
This is my 2nd favorite show of all time, and possibly my favorite horn book
They actually used that same drill in 2012 too

phenomenal closer
Hey, I remember you from the Cavies and Colts camps. Thanks for watching.
lol no problem, are you still gonna be marching somewhere this summer?

I just realized in the pit in the beginning their play the Jupiter movement from planets 😍😍😍
This closer actually made me cry
2014 was such a stacked year
best DCI show of all time, prove me wrong
Carolina Crown 2015😁😁
Crown 2013 LOL
it just itches the brain in the best possible way

Haha this totally me when contact is reestablished and i'm coming home
I love this show so much! I still don't understand why it placed so much lower. Was it the percussion? Or was it some of that blue devils magic?
Letzet Sessel 2014 was just one of those years with so many amazing shows
the only magic involved with BD's shows is the shrooms they are on.
I'd say it's both.
JAL89 I think a big part was the show was too hard. Honestly this how had the hardest music I've seen in a DCI show, with triple tonguing, sprinting and playing, 16th note runs, and really hard drill. Also yeah percussion fucked them over
GE and that metallic muffler break went on for too long.

SUCH an underrated show. 5th place my arse.

Percussion put them there and the extreme competition
Nice modulation!
Sucks they didn't win this year, crown really pops out with the coolest stuff
that rifle drop!!!! I bet that guard member felt horrible!!!
And this is when I start to miss ACTUAL drill
I found this extremely moving for some reason. I guess I miss my marching band days.
My highschool did the same piece for our closer this year, absolutely incredible.
Hippo Man thats a god damn lie
Still probably my favorite run of all time
This piece got me hooked on Vitae Aeternum
chills...
still salty this show didn't place
Day 23 of playing this every morning when I get up
Better than tilt
DON’T TALK SHIT ABOUT T/LT
Jordanian Pilots he’s right tho
BobTheCob
DON’T TALK SHIT ABOUT TOTAL
BobTheCob he’s not.
Oyhx it’s subjective
It’s 2020 and I still don’t understand how they didn’t get first brass
1:43 This part is what I like the most
What are the black things on the leadpipes?
They're called berps, you use them for buzzing techniques, when you don't want to actually play your instrument. It's designed to fit your mouthpiece.
Why did they keep them on for the show?
FanPlastic burps
I don't know, does it hold the mouthpiece in place? I remember one time launching the mouthpiece from my mellophone like a catapult when moving to "horns down."
Chris Maybury all it does is it lets you buzz while still holding up your instrument and finger it, rather than just playing on a mouthpiece alone
I didn’t know they played jupiter
How did this show get 5th place ???
pretty
Did they quote jupiter in the beginnig?
What is the song the mello’s play at 1:42?
idk i think it sounds like rocketman but i can’t tell
Space Oddity by David Bowie 👌👌
it's very busy
Second in brass MY ASS

How was this 5th place???
yo does anyone know who that girl on the vibraphone in the beginning is she’s gorgeous 🤧
