I remember when I first got into DCI I would continuously listen to SCV 2018 and be amazed about the ballad, but especially the closer. SCV 2018 holds a very special place in my heart
First DCI show I watched and I haven’t seen a better one
I have heard SCV will be back for 2024. Hope so. First saw them in 1975
Have always enjoyed their shows. Every era fantastic shows from them.
SCV 2018 is the greatest show ever put on the field.
I've been watching DCI since 83 (band director's kid), and that show gets me as pumped as any other
Having seen most of those live, I must say Tilt and Babylon were 2 of the most enjoyable times I can remember in my 30+ years in the activity.
"Tilt" was one of my absolute favorite programs ever. Too bad the Blue Devils took gold that year, the Bluecoats certainly had it together.
the blue devils had it wayy more together though. They murderered every other corps
ye bluecoats popped off with a banger show, bd just dominated that year with Felliniesque
Bd had it more together. Better show, cleaner show, better design
BD’s show was mid imo, but I’ve also never liked their shows. It was just piss clean across the board
One classic hit from the pre-modern DCI days that I enjoy is the 2004 Madison Scouts closer. They play a loud hit, then reveal that half of them aren't even playing, then everyone else joins in for an even bigger hit.
An eclectic selection..
well chosen.
Long live Crown '12. One of the most sublime B flat chord resolutions ever executed on a football field.
@@Surelockohms At the risk of Troll feeding…
Yea, it sucked that they only managed to snag their 3rd Jim Ott in 4 years. Total bummer.
@@Surelockohmswhat corps did you march?
Good picks! Crown 2012 is my favorite show as well. Powerful music, amazing brass and absolutely insane drill.
Crown 2012 is also my favorite show! Crown 2012 had one of the best hornlines ever and the music is just soo good
Crown 2012 is also probably my favorite. I would die to experience that show fr.
I agree with most of this but Crown 2016 absolutely should've been on here
100% i analyzed relentless for the first time yesterday, in my humble opinion it should’ve won
@@notizu6969 carolina crown: best 2nd place corps
WHAT IM SAYING
Still crazy to me that what we did with Star of Indiana over 30 years ago is still memorable. :)
For that matter, Star's show from two years earlier in 1989 still has the highest score ever for a sixth place corps.
SCV '18 (Babylon) has been my favorite DCI show since the advent of more props and less marching. They use props (ramps/risers) but they never distract from the show, and the music that year, esp the ballad and closer, were amazing. Also loved their COVID year video in the park. Star '91 cross-to-cross...long live Zingali!
Boston's, BC 23 and SCV still gives me goosebumps
BC 23 was a championship show that had a bad rep 😢
@@pacibels_cannonFr everyone I’ve talked to agrees that bc should’ve won 23, WE DONE WITH THE BD BIAS 😤
Bluecoats had the better show, but their percussion wasn't hard enough
@@pacibels_cannon yeah I agree
2000 Cavaliers opener, 2003 Phantom closer and 2004 SCV deserve love over a lot of the shows on this list.
1988 and 1989 Santa Clara Vanguard's Phantom of the Opera.
Oh! I could create a top 25 list from the 80's. `
85' Freelancers - Bells
85' Cavies - Mars
84' Garfield Cadets - West Side Story
86' Cavies - Variations on a Korean Folk Song
83' Cavies - Pines of Rome
82' Blue Devils - Pegasus
80' SCV - two pitch 8-man quad line
85' SCV - Uniform change tunnel
87' SCV - Russian Christmas Music
89' Phantom - From the New World, to a New Age
89' Suncoast Sound - Florida Suite
88' SCV - Phantom of the Opera
84' Madison Scouts - CATS
85' Madison Scouts - Rhapsody in Blue
88' Madison Scouts - Malaguena
84' Phantom - War of 1812

ruclips.net/video/zA13zD7pgtQ/видео.htmlsi=0tIPPXqo9Skd0_Bc&t=400
1980 Blue Devils - La Suerte de los Tontos
1984 Blue Devils - La Fiest
1986 Blue Devils - Channel One Suite
1987 Star of Indiana - The Greatest show on Turf
1985 Phantom Regiment - Symphonie Fantastique - an obscure favorite
1987 Cadets - Appalachian Spring
1990 - Cadets - A Bernstein Celebration
1983 Suncoast Sound - Aquarius
I could do this all day....
For modern day? Cavies, "Machine" as at the top of my list. Just a brilliant program.
I will always consider BD 2011 as the best hit of all time, me favorite at least. Gives me goosebumps every time.
2012 Crown is such a gem I like it more than 2013.
Boston 22 closing hit, man… that hit my soul it’s mandatory I listen to it everyday.
Hits that deserved to be on this list
BD 2017 closer
Cavaliers 2003 you already know which one
Phantom 2008 "I am Spartacus" and everything after
Cadets 2000 Literally every hit
Vanguard 2009 closer
Continued:
Crown 2011 opener
Bluecoats 2022 the keytar hit
Troopers 2022 closer
Bluecoats 2019 trio and hit
Mandarins 2023 ballad hit
Vanguard 1988 closer
Bluecoats 2011 Creep???
I have no idea why spartacus and rach star were not both in the top 4
I would also add SCV 2013 ballad hit to this list but you got everything else in my opinion.
Spirit 23 Intro hit
no one gaf about the keytar 😂 it sucked 💩
There is nothing like the great DCI shows.....just fabulous!!!
Love the mid to late 90’s Madison Scouts!
the camera work in the video of babylon makes me tear up everytime, the whole crowd is already on their feet before the massive hit. what an insane experience.
I'd argue that any one of the big Scouts shows from the 90s could be on this list. ('99, '94, '95, '96) and the one I was surprised not to see was Phantom '96.
Even some of their lesser praised performances like 92's City of Angels and 98's Power Pizazz and All That Jazz, are absolutely wonderful watches.
that tilt hit is bone chilling
Awesome that the Star of Indiana '91 and '93 have a Carolina Crown connection...Matt Harloff
Thanks 😊 The only one I saw live at finals was 1991 Star of Indiana. That double cross movement was fantastic!!
The best DCI hit ever has to be towards the end of Phantom Regiment's 2003 "Harmonic Journey"
It's forever Star of Indiana. Not just for Drum Crops but for performing arts history in the US.
Honestly Crown 2013 is just one big brass hit.
That moment you realize that both of the Star clips were performed using two valved instruments. 🤯
Loved this list, only thing I would change is putting Babylon as #2, because in my opinion Star 1991 is hands down the greatest horn line to ever have existed.
Star ‘91 is the real reason I joined the marching arts and ultimately a DCI member! That show holds a very special place in my heart! That show was absolutely AMAZING!!!!!
You're leaving out many great hornlines from the earlier years of the sport....Hawthorne Muchachos 75, Bayonne Bridgemen, Blue Devils, Madison Scouts and many others.....Study your history my friend....IMHO....
I feel like halftime shows are so underrated. If you’ve never been in band/colorguard/dance team you have no idea how hard it is to not only learn the entire choreography, little they teach you mark by mark “ok you’re here… you right here” and it takes forever, meanwhile the band is learning the music in class, dancers are learning the dance in class and color guard is learning their routine in class. But then when it comes time to put it all together it’s not easy! Playing an instrument/dancing/throwing a flag all while running around, lots of times doing so backwards, it’s a lot of work but it’s also a lot of fun. I miss those days!
coats '17 is sooooo slept on, they had some struggles esp coming off of a stellar year in '16 but it's a worthy inclusion here fr
Star of Indiana 1993, I remember watching that as a middle schooler and being amazed. Even now, 30 some years later, it still holds up well
Babylon is my all-time fave -- also love Tilt, Metamorph, and all the Crown shows!
Love this list! So many great shows!
I saw the 93 Star of Indiana in person and omg thaf show was insane. It was the start of the new era of marching. They were so disrespected that year.
This video helped me understand how truly loud dci is
Scv 91. Cadets 93. Star 91. Some of the best shows ever. Anything from velvet knights as well for those who remeber that.
The end of Babylon is, far and away, my favorite closer ever. And I’ve been following this activity since 1975. And that beats 27th and Phantom and Garfield and all the others that had really amazing closers.
The turn in Phantom Regiment "Harmonic Journey" gets me =every time=. So simple, but bam, its just there as a mega crescendo. Also, the spinning thingy visual effect in Carolina Crown e=mc2.
I'm a Phantom Phantom. Love harmonic journey. Carolina Crown great too.
Harmonic Journey is my second favorite show
Favorite part is the disclaimer in the beginning (in my opinion). Love it! So many comments are always so biased towards their age and wherever/whoever they played for. I was in a marching band in the last 1980’s, growing up minutes away from the Cadets in northern NJ and never got to see them play…but my father always told me about them…this video was a great compilation, thanks for putting it all together for us!
Cross-to-cross... Zengali's genius on full display.
Given the amount of absolutely outstanding shows im happy you included TILT as hyped as it is, genuinely such an incredible show
After "My Body is A Cage", '88 Madison's park and play coming out of the percussion break in Malaguena is probably the best I've ever experienced. They burned Arrowhead stadium to the ground that night.
Crown 2011 opener. Possibly the best and most well timed hits.
Tilt still gives me chills - was able to catch this on in person at finals.
This list has it all. Well done!
my god Blue Coats 2014 brings back so many memories, one of my all time favorite shows
Hearing the snap in Babylon is will be a sound I can never forget. Being there in person is an experience like no other
i’d pay an ungodly amount of money to see babylon live
Fire list. Love to see Inferno represented
The Crown ‘12 hit makes me physically shake
Great list. I would suggest you go back and consider some of the Cavaliers shows.
Yes!!!
I love 90s to early 2000s cavaliers! Spin cycle and Niagara Falls are some of my favorites.
All I could think as I watched this was, “this guy hates the Cavaliers.” lol
my left ear loved this
SCV 2018 will always be my favorite show ever
wonderful to see BD 2011 and Star 91 on here 💪
Star 1993 was definitely the most significant and memorable show. Still sad things turned out the way they did.
BLUE COATS🔥🔥🔥
You know it is good when the crowd is already on their feet before you actually finish.
YOU HAVE AMAZING TASTE!!!! WOW!!!
SCV 2018 is my favourite dci closer of all time, tilt is just a tiny tiny bit behind, but babylon had so much power to it!!!!
I will say Tilt, Beast, and Spartacus will always be my top.
This is such a good list. I personally would have put Rach Star and Demons/Angels on here but these are all great
Blue coats 2014 down there is crazyy
Yes
Thank you for putting this together, I enjoyed it very much. To all the complaining commenters just remember that in order to put someone in the top ten you have to pull someone out and all these shows were great, it would be hard for me to take one of them down to put in my favorite. I would like to see others top ten list and videos. If you make it I will watch
No Cadets on this list??? Too many absolute classics missing here.
my personal fav is cavilers 2000 Niagara falls
I marched BAC 22 and 23 and I’m kinda surprised you put our 23 closing hit on here as opposed to our 22 one. To each their own tho and good video!
crown 2016 "relentless" opening hit is prob my fav!!
97 BlueDevils, 94 Phantom Regiment and Tilt BlueCoats are my favorites.
The crown 2013 hit either the one in movement 2 or the final chord would be up there for me
I'm on this list!
MY EARS, ITS SO GOOD IT HURTS OW
2016 crown not being here is criminal
troop 11' deserves a spot on here. that infinity cord was ridiculous.
Can we talk about how insanely clean the Z Pull in tilt is tho
Star deserved to be on here. Roman images is amazing.
90's Madison had some epic moments and also the finale of 2003 Phantom is definitely too ten!
Myself personally having seen it live Scouts 95 would have been my #1
thank you for supporting us (a performing member of that corps... that year) :D
tilt and metamorph got me into drum corp
One of my favorite opening hits is the opening hit of Vanguard 89
2011 Blue Devils❤
I think we might have the same top 10. Watched nearly all of these just before watching this.
Pretty good list, not some of my favorites, but I respect the list for sure
In my opinion bd 2011 is my number 1
God forbid anyone post any video about DCI shows they enjoy unless they've seen every single show since 1972.
How can we talk about this without talking about crown 2008, and crown 2011. Those are classic.
8:11 i saw them! absolute goosebumps for the entire show.
dci needs more huge hits like crown 2012
They had one similar to it in Exogenesis this year! (Phantom Regiments program)
@@evans9020 are u talking about the company front in the closer? or the trombone feature? those two only really come to mind since the show was ridiculously loud anyways irl (one of the greatest shows oat though imo)
No complaints here
The opening hit os 1996 BD would like a word....
Phantom’s chevron hit in 2010 is my favorite 😊
rachstar (crown 2011) not being on this list is an absolute crime
CC 2012 is my favorite
All fine but I also want to put some honorable mention votes in for The Cadets 2000 opener. The first big hit there gives me goosebumps every time. That and same year Vanguard's Adagio for Strings. Spine-tinglingly awesome.
My goodness, were you and I separated at birth? I was going to say the exact same thing.
Correction: every hit from cadets 2000
@@The_JnrelFair, just particularly partial to the first.
99 and 2000 vanguard..
Fun fact: my old band director was on the star of indiana 1991 and he said the drill writer made the last two crosses completley from mind just before world
Bando list
Scouts 88 is a pretty cool one too
If you think these are the "greatest hits", then you have a lot more history to learn.
Cadets 1983: opening phrase of "Rocky Point Holiday."
Such a grump for what
RIP 2016 Carolina Crown 😔
08 Phantom not being on here is a crime
These top 10 vids amaze me. Nothing from the 70’s. Nothing from the 80’s. Nothing from the 90’s. Guess all those corps did not exist. They just blew people away without amplification. Can you really say 1988 Madison could not be too 10? What about Spirit of Atlanta when they broke the glass out of a judge booth - without amplification just pure power. Really?
I would love to hear about some older shows! What would be your top 10?
"nothing from the 90's"
video: star of indiana 91 and 93
Consider for a moment, that this is only the top ten in the opinion of the video maker which is indeed allowed to be different than yours.
These were mostly in Lucas Oil wtf
@@gabrielfaure9091 Indianapolis is the headquarters of BOA and DCI. DCI World Championships is held in Lucas Oil and World Championships will arguably produce the beat show as its at the end of the DCI Season
