They're pretty amazing aren't they? I believe Crown has the single most effective brass educational staff in the history of our activity and has had it since as early as 2003. Thanks for watching!
Man I keep coming back to this video over and over again. No other DCI show has gotten to me the way this one has. I could watch the actual show but I feel a transcription of high quality, such as this one, really is better to hear and actually see all the parts. Needless to say, awesome job!!!
Wow this is just FANTASTIC! Seriously, i think this is how the arranger for Crown must feel when he finishes the score. I felt like i was actually listening to the real thing. I mean, the perfection, and closeness to the actual thing is just amazing. As a fellow composer and arranger for marching bands, i do feel that each note has a significant meaning to the show. As a composer, i feel flattered having someone else arrange one of my shows, That means that my music has made an impact, at least to one person. But like you said, sometimes all those long hours of writing music can be really hard, and just to have someone take your composition and make it theirs can be a little disrespectful. But hey, it's music, what can we do? For lots of us, music is everything. Keep up the great work you got there, man you have a huge future ahead of you.
I can't tell you much I appreciate those words. Likewise, I feel flattered and honored when I've inspired someone to share the love of music with others through my writing in any way, shape, or form, but I have run into people who have been in the business MUCH longer than I do who don't appreciate something like this at all. Michael Klesch doesn't seem to be one of those people, and knowing a man of such class, it's not surprising. Thanks for watching!
I am flute player and have been for five years. I just recently took interest in DCI and have fallen in love with it ever since. I've watched this video more times then I'd like to say after finding this video only this week. I have found new respect for brass, as a woodwind player. Just looking at it, I know how to read trumpet and baritone music now. This right here is a master piece! And all by ear! I commend you sir (or ma'am)!
I'm so glad that you like it! Crown's Drum Major Linda Harvey is also a flute player. Flutists have done some pretty amazing stuff in DCI. Thanks for watching!
I love this I completely understand how someone of dci level can get frustrated over this, I mean 12 hour "spring" rehearsals take a lot of time and effort, but I appreciate the time a fan spends into doing something I could never thanks.
You should really do SCV's show from this year next :D you're an incredible person and these are absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for taking your time and doing this for us :)
Tell ya what. If you can reach the SCV staff and get their approval for it, I'll seriously consider doing SCV's show. Thanks for all the compliments - I'm glad you enjoy it.
My favorite parts of the show: 3:45-4:15, 7:27-8:02, 8:26-9:24. I love the six duplet runs @ 5:16. And of course the intro of the show is fantastic too.
Great job on the transcription! This makes me appreciate how amazing they are even more. The fact that those mellos could go up to a high C is incredible! I can barely hit a G. To be fair, I've been playing for 2 months ._. But still
Yes - aren't they incredible? Their mellophone line, in particular, has been that ridiculous at least since "The Grass Is Always Greener" (2009). I'll bet you can learn how to play like that. I know personally that when you come across a band with great mellos and get to write for them, it's a real treat. I'm sure drum corps is the same way. Thanks for watching!
FreakoftheArts73 I just got into DCI last year, when our marching band took a trip to see finals. We're doing it again this year. Immediately after seeing it, I was bent on switching from saxophone to mellophone for marching band to hopefully march in DCI some day. And this year, I'm doing it. It's...not the easiest thing switching from woodwind to brass while still trying to play both really well. But I'm working on it.
Learn trumpet :) I know sometimes they'll throw really great trumpet players who aren't quite ready for upper-split lead parts on a trumpet to the mellophone line and they'll rock it. Also, practice! :)
Na stay with mello I love it I have played for 2 and a half years and have finally extremely strengthened my high Cs and double high GS a bit and it's a lot of fun why your high school band throws those into your show
I'm a Mello and it is my absolute DREAM to march with crown. Been playing for just over a year now and I'm finally getting good support on my high c, still pretty thin and breathy, i should really practice more tho
This is so awesome! I was introduced to DCI at my summer music camp and by far, Carolina Crown is my most favorite! I'm actually starting to learn some of it too! XD
I love that part, too. I was always amazed particularly at how easy they made a logistical nightmare such as having an entire section start on the & of 1 cleanly and then line it up with the same thing in another section on the other side of the field. That alone would give almost every high school band (and a number of corps) in the nation lots of trouble. Thanks for watching!
Great interpretation. It sounds just like the original. Kudos to Carolina Crown and the writer for their awesome work, and kudos to your arrangement. Great job.
***** - that definitely means a lot coming from you, and thank you for taking the time to watch. I'm definitely interested in getting set up with some System Blue gear and will probably be able to within the next year the way things are going with my developing career. We should talk. Thanks again!
I love the opener to Carolina Crown's 2013 show. By the way, what arrangement is it titled? Especially the nice intro to the opener and I love the entire show from opener to the very end of the show. You know, when I made my very first trip to watch DCI showings in the summer of 2013, I was in love with watching DCI showings so, that's why I love going there every summer and I love to keep going to watch more of DCI showings every summer, all year long.
***** Likewise - it's definitely possible, but the sheer difference in the number of notes that the drumline and front ensemble play make the transcription process take MUCH longer to pull off!
Dear Sir, is there any possibility of obtaining a copy of this score? This is fantastic and I would like to do an arrangement for Brass Band with your permission.
Sorry, but it isn't my permission to give. This score effectively belongs to Carolina Crown, as the content still reflects its original corps arranger.
Sorry - since it's a transcription of Michael Klesch's work, emailing the score out would tread thin waters both legally and ethically. But you're welcome to play around with the video itself and see what you can do!
Back again lol I keep watching this, how long did this take you to transcribe? and I wish you could do the Bluecoats Tilt or Metropolis shows, that'd be so awesome!
Hey, I was thinking about putting together a high brass feature for my concert using this score, would you mind sending it to me, it would be very much appreciated!
Can anybody tell me the name of the song in the very beginning? The one that goes C-G-C? Ever since I saw their show its been driving me crazy cause I've heard it many times before but never knew the name
Also Sprach Zarathustra, by Richard Strauss. It's most commonly recognized as the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey. In Crown's 2013 preshow, it is brilliantly fused with Phillip Glass's Einstein on the Beach (Knee 1) as a mash-up, which is where the G-F-Bb in the bass voices and the voice-overs come from.
This is Finale Music, which is quite expensive, but there are plenty of "offspring" versions of Finale and other notation systems (I.E. versions of Sibelius or Forte) that are either free or extremely affordable that you can check out. I'd also check out Noteflight online, which I believe is free. I believe there's an app either coming out or already out on IPhones, but I don't remember what it's called.
I have to admit that I don't know the answer. It sounds familiar to me, too, but it could be because the chord structure they use underneath is referenced throughout the show, especially in the preshow and all the transitional material. It may just be Michael Klesch's original transitional writing heavily influenced by the source material used in the show, because he's quite good at doing that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for watching!
You guys may be interested to know that I will be putting up a live stream while I transcribe a section of Crown's 2015 show starting around 2pm EST today (in 1 hour). Hey, I'm the guy who did the Puck transcription a couple of years ago. I'm wondering if you might be interested in working together on a transcription of the full 2015 Crown show. I've started with a couple of segments from the lot (86 and the Fugue), and it'd be fun to check notes while I polish those up and wait for a brass-only recording to be released. If so, shoot me an email at info@jcmtenor.com.
Subscribe to my newer channel MSGrantMusic and you'll not only see an Out of This World Score completed in about a month from now, but starting some time a week or so from now, you'll get to see videos of me writing the entire transcription behind-the-scenes and talking about the process on that channel.
Maybe, but I have to confess that it's not likely that I'll be doing any more transcriptions any time soon for various reasons. However, I think someone has already done this on youtube somewhere? Thanks for watching!
Haha, those runs in that key lay very well on the instruments, but considering that there were 80 of them spread across the field and they were NOT at a standstill and somehow still made it sound balanced and clean, it's still quite outrageous. Thanks for watching :)
Thanks! I used the music notation system known as Finale 2012 to write the music, Audacity (free download) to edit the audio and create the stereo effect, CamStudio (free download) to capture the video, and Windows Live MovieMaker (comes free with Windows) to produce the video. The only software that isn't free is Finale.
Thanks for watching! I compose in Finale 2012, and then I do my screen capture with camstudio and my audio editing with audacity. I combine the contents and create the video using Windows Live Moviemaker.
Once the 2014 season begins, I will most likely be doing a quick tutorial on how I transcribe shows via my other channel MSGrantMusic (not very much on it, yet). I can explain in depth there if you subscribe to that channel. But yes, this entire transcription is by ear. To be fair, I have plenty of experience with this already - ruclips.net/p/PL796AB7C511C37F0A Thanks for watching!
No wonder why they got they first perfect brass 20 in DCI history! Awesome transcription!
They're pretty amazing aren't they? I believe Crown has the single most effective brass educational staff in the history of our activity and has had it since as early as 2003. Thanks for watching!
Thank you Mr. Matt Harloff and Section Staff... Been killing the brass game for a VERY Long time Signed CMFC Contra 07,08
I have never heard a more accurate transcription of that triplet run. I am thoroughly impressed with this entire piece. A++++++!
Thanks for the kind words!
Man I keep coming back to this video over and over again. No other DCI show has gotten to me the way this one has. I could watch the actual show but I feel a transcription of high quality, such as this one, really is better to hear and actually see all the parts. Needless to say, awesome job!!!
I got so many chills when you added that last line, fantastic job
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Im here a bit late, but good for you being so considerate in the video description of intellectual property!
This is pretty close to the actually music. Great job transcribing it! And THANK YOU for putting the chime note there! :)
Thanks! I felt as if the chime note was an absolute requirement for a transcription like this :)
Lol. Yes! That chime note is in the actual music. ;)
This is just too good, you did a FANTASTIC job. As a huge Crown fan, I am very happy and amazed you did this, awesome work!
Thanks for watching, and for the compliments!
11 minutes of pure beauty and perfection.
You are too kind!
This is beyond perfect. You, sir, are a genius.
I'm extremely humbled by your words.

4:41 is my favorite part
Our favorite part
Finally! I've been looking for a transcription of the brass feature before the ballad. Thanks so much for posting!
My pleasure!

As I was watching the video of this show I was wondering what the score looked like. I'm glad I found it!
I'm glad I could help - thanks for watching!
And this isn't even the WHOLE score, it's just the brass, right?
That's correct.
3:45 - 4:13 is definitely the best part!
I love that part, too. I was always amazed particularly at how easy they made a logistical nightmare such as having an entire section start on the & of 1 cleanly and then line it up with the same thing in another section on the other side of the field. Great interpretation. It sounds just like the original. Kudos to Carolina Crown and the writer for their awesome work, and kudos to your arrangement. Great job.
Thanks for your kind words - they mean a lot!
the music is incredible...
I'm glad that you enjoy Crown's music as much as I do :)
***** - that definitely means a lot coming from you, and thank you for taking the time to watch. I'm definitely interested in getting set up with some System Blue gear and will probably be able to within the next year the way things are going with my developing career. We should talk. Thanks again!
Yes, you are def a "Freak of the Arts"!!! Nice work on the transcription!!!
Thank you very much for the compliment - I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND VIEWS!?!?!?!? You guys are AMAZING! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Yes I am.
FreakoftheArts73 Well it does have the closer which is the best closer of all time

How does 200k sound?
SUPER COOL thanks for your hard work in making this video it sounds great and sounds just like them
That run. Oh god. Amazing job!
Thanks, Vincent!
Vincent Pezza I have two programs like this. One for sheet music just like it shows, and one for a keyboard.
I'll be playing part of this tomorrow at crown learning camp!
great work, i really enjoyed seeing how all the pieces fit together. you really did a great job!
Wow amazingly done!!!!
You have inspired me to try my own! There os another guy that has done shows he is fanatic also! Keep up the great work!
I love the opener to Carolina Crown's 2013 show. By the way, what arrangement is it titled? Especially the nice intro to the opener and I love the entire show from opener to the very end of the show. whats the melody at 3:59 from?
Wow, this is so accurate... Amazing job!!!
Thank you!
Awesome job man!
Thank you!
this is amazing!!!!! i love it all of it! just wish the the front ensemble music was in there :/
regardless this is amazing! love what you did!
Thank you for the compliment! The front ensemble music is definitely possible to transcribe, but it would take MUCH more time!
or the drum line
***** Likewise - it's definitely possible, but the sheer difference in the number of notes that the drumline and front ensemble play make the transcription process take MUCH longer to pull off!
I reached to cavaliers staff and the arranger said if you transcribe it ,it would be fine
Love the "Slowing Dramitically" part
holy crap 9:15 perfect
Did you work for Crown to be this accurate?
I WISH I worked for Crown. I'm just an avid fan of the activity, and of Crown's organization in particular. Thanks though!
HOW!!? Ohh wow you're a genius!!
Thanks for the humbling compliment!
This is amazing.
goosebumps for the 100th time.
sorry 1000th
Awesome job man!!
Thanks!
MrGavin- it's a combination of "Einstein on the Beach" by Philip Glass and "Also Sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss
I love the part at 5:56 omg
Genius!
Thank you for the kind thoughts!
This is some crazy great arranging!!! I like that song @8:28 too but it ALL sounds so good
can you send these files to me so i can write a finale percussion part??? i would do anything and love you forever
Woah, dis is like something I've wanted 2 do but can't. Could u do this 4 Bluecoats 2013....that is if u want
@Freakofthearts73 is there any way that you can send a link to a printable version of this?
Love you!!
Does your love have no limits, no bounds? ;) I'm glad you enjoyed it - thanks for watching!
FreakoftheArts73 Haha
Can you email this to me? I am learning to compose and I'd love to be able to tinker around, add some battery and pit stuff, etc.
Sorry - since it's a transcription of Michael Klesch's work, emailing the score out would tread thin waters both legally and ethically. But you're welcome to play around with the video itself and see what you can do!
FreakoftheArts73 which program did you use to transcribe this?
Daniel Espinoza I used Finale 2012 to do the actual transcription, but publishing the video entailed the use of other (free) software.
Back again lol I keep watching this, how long did this take you to transcribe? and I wish you could do the Bluecoats Tilt or Metropolis shows, that'd be so awesome!
About 11 hours. I believe I did a couple excerpts of Metropolis... thanks for watching!
9:17 POGGERS
Hey, I was thinking about putting together a high brass feature for my concert using this score, would you mind sending it to me, it would be very much appreciated!
hey there. i would love to see 2015 transcription. can u make 1?
what are the red highlighted things? the program doesn't think it's possible to play those?
It means that they split the part with another player. But they do play those
Good this super cool your job
Maybe I could share the musx score 🤗
What's the song in the beginning called?
what is name the first song?
Can anybody tell me the name of the song in the very beginning? The one that goes C-G-C? Ever since I saw their show its been driving me crazy cause I've heard it many times before but never knew the name

MSGrantMusic Thanks! I had no idea that the dialogue came from that play. I thought it was original.
Dekemyster No problem! It's amazing how cleverly hidden certain aspects of their show can be! Crown's staff are geniuses!
might you be able to send me the finale file? i would love to put the drums into this.
Can you please do cavaliers 2013?
where can i get a music making program like this
This is Finale Music, which is quite expensive, but there are plenty of "offspring" versions of Finale and other notation systems (I.E. versions of Sibelius or Forte) that are either free or extremely affordable that you can check out. I'd also check out Noteflight online, which I believe is free. I believe there's an app either coming out or already out on IPhones, but I don't remember what it's called.
What is the part starting at 5:58 from? It sounds so damn familar
I see. Well thanks for the help. Oh! The part at the end, the last 6/8 section, is that Also Sprach Zarathrusta?
WOW.

Awesome!! Really nice!!
Thank you!
What is playing the melody that starts at 3:06?
That would be a synthesizer cue from the front ensemble. I added some cues like those to help the transcription run more smoothly.
Just wanted to know cause I really like the sounds of it, thanks.
And it would be very cool if that was in the real show also!
The76compy There's a similar synthesized sound playing that part in the live production, but you're right - it's a different sound!
This sounds amazing. I want to hear what it sound like on the field. :)
It was breath-taking seeing Crown play it live on the field last season. Thanks for watching!
FreakoftheArts73 oh no problem! I'm a sophomore in highschool in band. I play clarinet. I love marching band!

FreakoftheArts73 You should do a 2012 trans :D
Do you take requests?
could you send me this score? I'm looking for new music to play that will challenge me, and this is perfect for me as a brass player
Can you do The Lords Prayer by Phantom Regiment from 2003 Harmonic Journey?
Maybe, but I have to confess that it's not likely that I'll be doing any more transcriptions any time soon for various reasons. However, I think someone has already done this on youtube somewhere? Thanks for watching!
What do you use to make music like this? I've been trying to find one. I make my own music.
Finale
5:38 , just leaving a timestamp
As soon as it got to the 16th notes... At that tempo? FUCK THAT, MAN
Haha, those runs in that key lay very well on the instruments, but considering that there were 80 of them spread across the field and they were NOT at a standstill and somehow still made it sound balanced and clean, it's still quite outrageous. Thanks for watching :)
Exactly. Moving like that and keeping a steady sound takes skill.

2015 on the way?
+ckooooooooo975 Slowly, but surely :)
10:07 the trumpet thing should be mellos
You should try to transcribe felliniesque! I would be ever in your debt! Haha
That would be something else! I probably won't be doing transcriptions for quite a while, but thanks for the suggestion, and thanks for watching!
3:35 = left ear, right ear, left ear, right ear,
the Chuck Norris of transcribing
these notes hurt my soul 😂
Secret society score? Cadets To tame the perilous skies score?
0:21
I like this computer software
So, I had some spare time this week & decided to do the Cadets 2000 show. The score is here:

Thanks for catching the misspelled title - fixed it. Thanks for watching!
