DFiscus Still consistently ballin'. No shade to SCV (they more of a whole package corps than a hornline spotlight corps tbh,) but the reason they won was an exciting book, Crown was boring af this year. But Crown still performed that boring book as best as possible.
Chris McKee I’m one of two trombone players in my highschool that play dummy loud with good tone, it’s just a matter of opening up and just pushing your air through the horn with low facial tension. Im currently a junior and going to try out for crossmen this year.
@Chris McKee It's the same way you get to Carnegie Hall. Practice, practice, practice. Individual and group. Multiple hours every day. Probably half of that time spent on basics - long tones, scales, articulation exercises, dynamics.
This is ignorance on my part, but with an observant heart...I've watched corps videos occasionally in the past and never saw bones till recently. Were they only recently allowed or something?
Also, marching trombones is just terrible. they sound so much brighter than the euphoniums, they're almost mellos in that setting. Being a trombone player myself, I can honestly say that I would sooooo much rather march a euphonium than trombone. Don't get me wrong though, that trombone feature in beast was incredible

@@carto7776 Yeah, if only we could hear what you speak of, just like no one can hear clarinets unless they're playing solo. Which is why they are irrelevant to drum corps.
Brings tears to my eyes every time. Beauty of tuned clean sound. Super clean. If you have never been to a DCI (Drum Corp International) competition, you so go. The visuals, the sound, the feeling. Unmatched. Fun for the whole family
I was at a summer camp with a bunch of other kids from across the states for the marching band track they offered and we did a portion of their show with them at the camp, at one point they had all the kids go sit in the middle of their circle and I remember feeling shaken to my core by the sound. You could literally feel the sound. It was insane and a moment I will never forget.
My son Andrew had that same experience at Western Carolina University in the 2017-2018 marching season. He was a senior in high school and was assistant drum major. He attended a leadership seminar that summer and Crown was practicing there at the time. He showed me the video of his time in their inner circle when they were doing their tuning sequence. Blew my mind how great it sounded! Not only that, but the mountains were ringing, echoing back the sounds. I got goosebumps! That was Andrew's "I can die happy now" moment.
my school uses them as an example! we do the exact same tuning sequence (without the part from the show obviously) and it just gives us such a good group to look up to and strive for
jaman198 doesn’t most of it consist of you just using your 2nd valve? Like there’s some parts where you have to use other valves. But it’s usually just your 2nd valve
I will forever miss G bugles, but this is a wonderful substitute in the power department. This has to be peak evolution of a B flat horn line...and I would love to switch places with that director from 2:30 - 2:53. He's like a players' conductor...conducting just how I felt when I used to play.

The pure intensity and passion of the instructor alone is enough to put a smile on my face! Man I miss playing in corps so much. Corps is life. As a white collar professional executive I spend my days in a sterilized office going to meetings and writing reports and it takes the juice out of life. Maybe tomorrow I will wake everybody up at the office with this at about 3:00 pm and blast it in my office.
This is the reason there is a thing called Drum Corps. Carolina Crown's entire corps is beyond SOLID. Drums, Color Guard, the whole ensemble is simply beautifully powerful. But mostly beautiful. Conducting by this director was phenominal.

The trombones definitely add a whole new dimension. It's about friggin time.
