In my culture (Mexico) signet rings are not a thing. However, I have a gold ring that my grandfather gave my dad when he was a young boy on the occasion of my aunt's 15th birthday. This ring was sized for my dad's 10 year-old ring finger which, coincidentally, fits my own adult pinky finger. The ring says "Luis", which is my dad's first name, as was my grandfather's and is mine. It is one of my most prized possessions and, while wearing a gold ring with your own name on it, especially on your pinky, is seen as a tacky thing here in Mexico, I wear it with pride almost every day.

He's fortunately still here and I try to make the best out of every minute I can spend with him.

It fit my dads ring finger which fit my pinky. Some piece of shit that I used to call my friend stole it with a few other things. Left me quite bitter.
In Canada professional engineers swear an oath to uphold a set of shared ethics and are given an iron pinky ring. It is worn on the writing hand and is meant to drag across the page as you write as a constant reminder of your responsibilities and the oath you took. The original rings were made from iron recovered from a bridge that collapsed due to engineering negligence. My grandfather had one of those rings but unfortunately lost it. I graduated as an engineer this year and am now wearing a replacement ring my grandfather got many years ago. Love your videos! Peter

Your Professional Engineer status is based on passing an ethics exam. You and I both chose not to write it. It is not a guild where someone bestows the title on you based on an apprenticeship. Other professions also have similar standards, Lawyers with the Bar exam, Doctors with medical board exams are a couple of examples. These are far more restrictive as you cannot practice your profession without the respective certification. Yet you are correct, it is mildly annoying, 4 to 5 years of your life spent becoming and engineer and you cannot use your chosen profession's designation.

But unlike my classmates, I attended university after 10 years in the Navy. I was married and had a newborn daughter. I was too busy being a dad to attend my graduation let alone a ring ceremony. And now she's 15 yrs old, and I'm smarter... The ring ceremony is the quintessential definition of duechbaggery... Of climbing bullshit mountain to realize you are still just a bug on a log... And this ring will magically make you feel like you have arrived.
My wife and I sadly parted company - I had my wedding ring melted down and re- cast as a pinky signet ring for my son - That way, the oath I took will always stay within the family .

I’m a female yet I have this gold signet ring made for me. It has a stag symbol and it made me feel powerful, confident especially when I have to deal with difficult clients. I wore it everyday on my pinky to work. Who knows, maybe I’ll pass this to my daughter or my granddaughter someday.
I have a silver pinky ring that my Dad brought back from Korea. He wore it for 30 years. I wear it on my middle finger as my hands are half as big as the old mans. I feel honored to wear it and makes me feel he’s still with me.
After my mom passed away, her rings were divided between my father, elder brother and sister. Since her fingers were more slender than mine, I can only wear them on my pinky finger. One of them has a quite noticeable turtle engraved on silver... I love it, despite the odd looks it gets.

Those who have studied engineering should be familiar with the the Engineer's Ring: A simple stainless steel band given to each student upon graduation. Worn on the writing hand's pinky finger, it is designed to drag although his or her work as they write, reminding them to perform honestly and diligently. Great episode. When my father passed a couple of years ago I inherited his gold / onyx signet ring that he inherited from his father. It gives me pride to put it on and is a great connection to family that has come before you. It's also a nice conversation piece as so few men wear rings anymore.

well none of my family or myself was ever big on wearing rings except for wedding rings. Wedding rings tend to be pretty conservative. as for me I never wore anything but a wedding ring or jewelry and then when my ring got caught in window jam it cut into my finger deep. That gave me excuse to not wear the ring. Few years later I got rid of the woman. wish I could find a ring again to melt it down for the gold in it. here's your sign, a woman wearing a lot of rings or jewelry is a red flag gentleman stay a mile away from them.

I have had pinky rings since my teens (5 silver, 3 gold), only now in my 40's I started to wear them on a regular basis (mainly thanks to this channel). I wear them on my left pinky while on my right ring finger, it's one of two rings, a gold signet ring or a slightly more chunky silver, for which I have worn either one every day for the last 25 years.

It was a fashionable trend during the American civil war to purchase a gold pinky ring with a soldiers first pay. They were often quite proud with it and even made it a point to show off in photos. Photographers would paint in the ring as well as some blush on the face. The blush pigments tended to fade but the ring paint would remain on the tintype. They weren't practical other than the fashion and a quick way to convert the new paper currency with something more stable.

I wear a signet pinkie ring inscribed with "MEMENTO MORI" that means "Remember Death" along with an hour glass representing the passing of time, skull representing the death, and a tulip, representing life. I use it as a tool for myself to combat anxiety and laziness -- to remind myself of the quote of Marcus Aurelius -- "You could leave life this moment. Let this decide what you say, do, and think."
My uncle was a Lawyer and had 2 black & gold onyx rings he wore . One on his pinky and the other as a wedding cigar band . I was always fascinated by his rings . My dad on the other hand didn’t wear jewelry much . He only wore cufflinks and tie tacks .
In classes on mudras, I learned that each finger on each hand has different meanings, and that meridians run from different bodily organs to each finger tip. The pinky finger represents the planet mercury - which stands for communication. So it is claimed that wearing a ring on the pinky helps to activate communication. I have worn my 18ct signet ring ever since I turned 21 and like my Rolex Oyster I never remove it so despite the massive abuse it has received doing manual work like fixing my cars and motorbikes and firing military weapon systems etc, it just looks better due to the patina of minor scratches and dings, so does the Rolex in my opinion although when it goes in for service every 5 years or so some comments are raised !
I wear my class ring occasionally, when I meet up with my old college friends, And I liked wearing my wedding ring when I was married, a plain gold band. I did have a high school ring but I hated my high school, so I never wore it. Other than that, this video has convinced me that a pinky ring is not my style at all! But I'm going to keep my eyes open for the rings men wear, not many men wear them so it is a deliberate choice to be different, there's going to be a story there.
I am a fan of your channel, from India! I have a ring my grandmother gave me as a child, it's made of silver, but it has my initial on it, and it has such beautiful engraving of nature around it, that I never gave it up. As i grew an adult, i had the ring expanded and extended to fit me, and I still wear it on my right little finger. I didn't realize then, what I know now, that it has become a part of me and a reminder of my grandparents.

I have a gold Masonic ring that was bought from an antiques store several years ago when I first became a Freemason. This video has inspired me to wear it more. As it only fits my pinky finger, I have been reluctant to wear it because I didn't want to look "gangster". Now I know better. It's a reminder to me to be the best man I can be, and also serve my community with pride and respect.
Interesting topics indeed! As a person far from the origin of europe and greek-roman centered culture, I found rings also had it's significance in my culture. My great-great-great grandfather has an absolutely breathtaking piece of ruby placed beneath an engraving of an ant, which is practically so confusing because the craftmanship and taste at the time would be very different. We're lucky though to preserve the piece of history of ours and of course, continue to strive and keep making histories for generations!

I wear a custom ring that my wife had made for me signifying my military service, but I have considered beginning a collection of rings, as well as watches. I would like a university ring as well as, a few other pieces I have considered commissioning. I love my gold rings! I only wear 14k gold rings and I always wear a ring on both pinky rings (one with small diamonds and a bigger sized ruby in the center & one with rows of diamonds) and a ring on my right ring finger with small diamonds and a bigger sized sapphire stone in the center. Also have more rings I wear for all my fingers this video makes me want to purchase another ring lol 🤫🫠

What a great topic. I've won rings since I was is about Grade School. My mother bought me a brown Tigers Eye. I still own it. Ummm no it doesn't fit, lol. I still wear two rings everyday. Wedding ring and a ring my wife gave me 42 years ago. A light Blue Star Sapphire Square in shape. I have other rings, but I just enjoy those. Howevee only one Wedding ring. I've never been able to get used to a Pinky ring. Just feels odd when I'm writing. I've noticed a lot of new materials that are awesome and relatively inexpensive in rings. Like Tungsten, Titanium, Carbon Fiber even Ceramic. Thank you for the education. I appreciate it.
My family are immigrants from southern Italy. My great grandparents were mobsters on my grandfathers side. My grandmothers side were Arkansas Moonshiners who ran shine for Capone back and forth from Hot Springs Arkansas to Chicago. We have a rich outlaw history and most of us wear some sort of pinky or signet ring. I am now a jeweler and thoroughly enjoy making heirlooms to be passed through the generations.
Interesting. I have been wearing a stainless ring from a monkey 47 bottle (ex pluribus unum) after a great meeting with friends and its always brings a smile. Unfortunately my own heirloom rings are not as glamorous nor as refined as yours. My great great grandfather was a Victorian ne'er do well as a lad. Contrary to TV and various shows on the Internet, they did not wear gold at all nor nice clothes. Times were very different..IF any item was worn it would have been silver and that was still a statement of money to most working people. I inherited a gold gilt buckle ring worn by him and an incredibly thick and heavy silver signet ring dated 1877. The latter had seen Victorian Liverpool, the western front, second war and it is currently sitting proud on my finger today. Your video is a perfect example of someone who knows their stuff! I’m a female yet I have this gold signet ring made for me. It has a stag symbol and it made me feel powerful, confident especially when I have to deal with difficult clients. I wore it everyday on my pinky to work. Who knows, maybe I’ll pass this to my daughter or my granddaughter someday.
I have a silver pinky ring that my Dad brought back from Korea. He wore it for 30 years. I wear it on my middle finger as my hands are half as big as the old mans. I feel honored to wear it and makes me feel he’s still with me.

After my mom passed away, her rings were divided between my father, elder brother and sister. Since her fingers were more slender than mine, I can only wear them on my pinky finger. One of them has a quite noticeable turtle engraved on silver... I love it, despite the odd looks it gets.

Those who have studied engineering should be familiar with the the Engineer's Ring: A simple stainless steel band given to each student upon graduation. Worn on the writing hand's pinky finger, it is designed to drag although his or her work as they write, reminding them to perform honestly and diligently. Great episode. When my father passed a couple of years ago I inherited his gold / onyx signet ring that he inherited from his father. It gives me pride to put it on and is a great connection to family that has come before you. It's also a nice conversation piece as so few men wear rings anymore.

well none of my family or myself was ever big on wearing rings except for wedding rings. Wedding rings tend to be pretty conservative. as for me I never wore anything but a wedding ring or jewelry and then when my ring got caught in window jam it cut into my finger deep. That gave me excuse to not wear the ring. Few years later I got rid of the woman. wish I could find a ring again to melt it down for the gold in it. here's your sign, a woman wearing a lot of rings or jewelry is a red flag gentleman stay a mile away from them.

I have had pinky rings since my teens (5 silver, 3 gold), only now in my 40's I started to wear them on a regular basis (mainly thanks to this channel). I wear them on my left pinky while on my right ring finger, it's one of two rings, a gold signet ring or a slightly more chunky silver, for which I have worn either one every day for the last 25 years.

It was a fashionable trend during the American civil war to purchase a gold pinky ring with a soldiers first pay. They were often quite proud with it and even made it a point to show off in photos. Photographers would paint in the ring as well as some blush on the face. The blush pigments tended to fade but the ring paint would remain on the tintype. They weren't practical other than the fashion and a quick way to convert the new paper currency with something more stable.

My uncle was a Lawyer and had 2 black & gold onyx rings he wore . One on his pinky and the other as a wedding cigar band . I was always fascinated by his rings . My dad on the other hand didn’t wear jewelry much . He only wore cufflinks and tie tacks .

The pinky finger represents the planet mercury - which stands for communication. So it is claimed that wearing a ring on the pinky helps to activate communication. Also, the left ring finger contains the only meridian that connects directly to the heart, which is why this is the preferred finger for wedding bands.
I had actually been curious about this since I started noticing myself and other people pressing their thumbs and index/middle fingers together when making a point to someone, and that there's actually a flow of energy (at least for myself) that occurs when this action is performed... I'm just not sure why one often feels instinctively inclined to do it 🤔

Extremely interesting video, congratulations. I have worn my 18ct signet ring ever since I turned 21 and like my Rolex Oyster I never remove it so despite the massive abuse it has received doing manual work like fixing my cars and motorbikes and firing military weapon systems etc, it just looks better due to the patina of minor scratches and dings, so does the Rolex in my opinion although when it goes in for service every 5 years or so some comments are raised !

I wear my class ring occasionally, when I meet up with my old college friends, And I liked wearing my wedding ring when I was married, a plain gold band. I did have a high school ring but I hated my high school, so I never wore it. Other than that, this video has convinced me that a pinky ring is not my style at all! But I'm going to keep my eyes open for the rings men wear, not many men wear them so it is a deliberate choice to be different, there's going to be a story there.
Background choice: a bookcase with a fine collection of exquisite volumes vice IKEA shelves with a lovely collection of DVDs & Blurays.

I am a fan of your channel, from India! I have a ring my grandmother gave me as a child, it's made of silver, but it has my initial on it, and it has such beautiful engraving of nature around it, that I never gave it up. As i grew an adult, i had the ring expanded and extended to fit me, and I still wear it on my right little finger. I didn't realize then, what I know now, that it has become a part of me and a reminder of my grandparents.

I have a gold Masonic ring that was bought from an antiques store several years ago when I first became a Freemason. This video has inspired me to wear it more. As it only fits my pinky finger, I have been reluctant to wear it because I didn't want to look "gangster". Now I know better. Interesting topics indeed! As a person far from the origin of europe and greek-roman centered culture, I found rings also had it's significance in my culture. My great-great-great grandfather has an absolutely breathtaking piece of ruby placed beneath an engraving of an ant, which is practically so confusing because the craftmanship and taste at the time would be very different. We're lucky though to preserve the piece of history of ours and of course, continue to strive and keep making histories for generations!

From the historical aspects all the way to the emotional and personal preferences regarding these tiny but meaningful accoutrements, your in depth education on these rings is a true chronicle. I wear a custom ring that my wife had made for me signifying my military service, but I have considered beginning a collection of rings, as well as watches. I would like a university ring as well as, a few other pieces I have considered commissioning. I love my gold rings! I only wear 14k gold rings and I always wear a ring on both pinky rings (one with small diamonds and a bigger sized ruby in the center & one with rows of diamonds) and a ring on my right ring finger with small diamonds and a bigger sized sapphire stone in the center. I still wear two rings everyday. Wedding ring and a ring my wife gave me 42 years ago. A light Blue Star Sapphire Square in shape. I have other rings, but I just enjoy those. Howevee only one Wedding ring.
I've never been able to get used to a Pinky ring. Just feels odd when I'm writing.
I've noticed a lot of new materials that are awesome and relatively inexpensive in rings. Like Tungsten, Titanium, Carbon Fiber even Ceramic.

My family are immigrants from southern Italy. My great grandparents were mobsters on my grandfathers side. My grandmothers side were Arkansas Moonshiners who ran shine for Capone back and forth from Hot Springs Arkansas to Chicago. We have a rich outlaw history and most of us wear some sort of pinky or signet ring. I am now a jeweler and thoroughly enjoy making heirlooms to be passed through the generations.

Interesting. I have been wearing a stainless ring from a monkey 47 bottle (ex pluribus unum) after a great meeting with friends and its always brings a smile. Thought it was clever to incorporate it into the bottle cork. Rumors and stories exist of people using them as emergency wedding or engagement rings. Plus its a damn fine gin. Thanks for the vid

Unfortunately my own heirloom rings are not as glamorous nor as refined as yours. My great great grandfather was a Victorian ne'er do well as a lad. Contrary to TV and various shows on the Internet, they did not wear gold at all nor nice clothes. Times were very different..IF any item was worn it would have been silver and that was still a statement of money to most working people. I inherited a gold gilt buckle ring worn by him and an incredibly thick and heavy silver signet ring dated 1877. The latter had seen Victorian Liverpool, the western front, second war and it is currently sitting proud on my finger today. Your video is a perfect example of someone who knows their stuff!
