Question of the day? Will self driving semi trucks hurt truck drivers or help truck drivers?

    • @thornback5641

It will never work in the USA- Europe yes- here no way. Our roads are trash, signage is inconsistent, gps/instructions are faulty in many places and most of all we need to consider USA drivers. Ai doesn't have the ability to anticipate the cray cray car driving infront of it😂😂😂. Just look at how self driving cars have gone. Except unlike self driving cars accidents when a self driving semi accident happens its going to cause major public outcries about road safety and get them shut down. People are scared of semis as it is- how do you think Jane and Joe Q public going to feel with one without a driver even in it?

The problem is not the shortage of drivers.
The problem is nobody appreciate what we do.
We are not allowed to go to bathroom. We can't park in most of the place. Everyone cut us off, Everyone is up to get us,Cops, scales, Mechanic... Everyone wants to tell us how to do our job, after all the training we received, all the regulations. One gets into a accident and we all going to feel it,because they will push more regulations on everyone.
I think this is the job with the most regulations, requirements... we have to be a driver, secretary, inspector, mechanic, planner, negotiator....

First of all, the ATA has never represented drivers as they claim. Been behind the wheel 20 years and has been true since I started. They represent the interests of the companies.
Second, I would say let them go ahead and put level 4 or the highest on the road without a driver, but would not want to associated with the chaos and loss of lives it would cause. I currently drive a freight shaker with the cruise assist radar and at least four times a shift I’m supposedly colliding with an unseen object, at night with no traffic, on a straight stretch of highway. Either the technology is still crap or the full growns can cloak and only the radar can detect them. Not to mention malfunctions in heavy rain, snow, and high wind. Just look at how many deaths have been caused by self driving cars.
    Just my thoughts.

What's to say that the Mega-Carriers are lobbying hard for the self driving trucks?

I’m hearing some of the same BS, I heard in 1994 when the industry was making the transition to CDL’s. More pay, safer drivers, better trained drivers and more professional drivers. So here we are in 2024,trying to believe self driving trucks is the answer to all of truckings problems. When the CDL came in, it ran out old timers who could barely read or write, but had excellent driving records. Ran off your most experienced hazmat people and put the personal injury lawyers in business. After that experience, why should any trucker believe autonomous trucks will save jobs or boost up driver pay? Isn’t the bottom line of American business is to cut the workforce and maximize profits? 8:18

You know he’s outright lying and I’d imagine that they figure there’s a trucking shortage because I guarantee that they look at the number of trucks that are registered in the US against the amount of trucks that go through scales on a daily basis. There’s no other way that they could be saying there’s a shortage unless they’re looking at the millions of trucks that are registered vs the hundreds of thousands that go through the scales in a day or a month or some dumb crap like that. Just because a truck is registered doesn’t mean it’s out there running obviously

These mofos know how to lie with a straight face, it’s like they sit around practicing on each other before the cameras come on. 🤦🏾‍♂️ We have more than enough real drivers with real bills out here, there is no need for automation. I would love to know how much these automation companies are paying him for persuading such B.S. Hell he should pay all the real drivers a cut out of his pay that lose their job to automation. Since he insists and is confident that automation won’t replace real drivers right…..????

I like how they said that there was a shortage of "Drivers". If there was a shortage then freight rates wouldn't be in the toilet like they are now due to glut of drivers in the market now. Now add "Autonomous Vehicles" this glut will become worse rather than better. The only truth they said is that the remaining drivers will be more skilled, but the there will be less drivers.

They want more safety? Return police on roads. Sometimes police do not react when traffic goes over 10 mph and more. Some companies from Asia and Russia play with logbooks and change it while drivers on the road. Drinkers at truck stops. Easier ways to receive cdl. Some drivers don’t know even a word in English. They create ab5, low prices for help Chinese companies. Cause all parts are coming from there. It’s bs that they care about us

My opinion is it's not going to happen , I do not know why they worrying about it, I've been saying it for a long time if all these big companies together and wanting to do this shitt , what these drivers need to do all drivers just walk away walk away and watch what happens , I forget what company it was they had 150 trucks and they told the drivers they were going to put cameras in the truck so they can watch them 😂 Well that never happened because they got smart 25 of them walked away the camera bullshitt never happened, because their company would have been shut down with in 72 hours because all of them would have walked away

No. There are companies that are willing to pay $300K with the hopes of not having to pay a Driver, but in the end “self driving trucks don’t work. Put one in a white out condition and see what happens, plus they can’t fuel themselves or deal with heavy traffic.

  • @REVYMERCENARY
    @REVYMERCENARY 25 дней назад

No it's never going to happen because a lot of the states have individually banned self-driving vehicles after a bunch of Tesla cars and Google vehicles that were supposed to be self-driving killed people. They tried to test a self-driving rig out east and it started raining in the darn thing shut down right there on the highway. So a lot of the states have the ability to ban certain vehicles in their area. And a lot of the states are banning them off their highways interstates and roads the only place this would really work is in the container port. Honestly the easier solution would be us to start doing road trains😂

It’s a load of crap. There’s more trucks out there then there is freight, why do you think rates are so low. Same thing that I’ve seen places paying less on indeed, it’s slow, companies have more drivers then they do freight so ppl leave n they replace them at a cheaper rate. If there was more work then drivers or trucks then company drivers or o/o would be making more. These politicians are dumb.

Look at how ignorant truck drivers are. They can watch this video and talk about bringing back manual transmission while companies are building trucks to drive themselves. You really think most of these truckers will have an IQ high enough to be an engineer?
