Unless you do a dollar store account. The freight’s usually consistent, but you have to hand bomb those boxes. Most young drivers won’t do it. The home weekly accounts never pay well also, despite the lies about salary or even potential salary. You gotta stay out a few weeks. It’s inconvenient, but that’s never changed. They just openly lie now to satisfy recruiting quotas.

I was a driver for Kimberly Clark for 16 years. Private carriers (in house driver) To be considered you must have had 5 years verifiable accident free and pass a strict driving test. I made $65,000 a year in brand new equipment in a company paid uniforms. Schneider came along and pitched their propaganda to KC executives. Schneider drivers made $25,000 and up to $30,000 if they didn’t idle their trucks at night and attempted to deliver on time. Well, Schneider took over and their brigade of flip flop wearing, muscle T shirts and shorts showed up to deliver our freight. Their on time delivery was terrible. Then Schneider sent every Kimberly driver a letter saying if you wanted your old job back you could have it at half the money and driving their junk. Not one KC driver took them up on their offer. Schneider is a cut rate carrier with sub standard drivers and equipment.

@@rumrunner8019- quality drivers will not work for crappy companies. So there's one reason for the turnover. The working conditions - pay per mile and not by hour, away from home for days, little privacy due to technology, occasional shortage of loads that the company gets - cause many drivers to split before they can become quality drivers. There's another reason. On the other hand, a company that addresses these concerns successfully will find itself not being able to compete with other trucking companies on cost, so it'll become nearly impossible for that company to earn a profit and stay in business.

Let's not pretend that many of them also get fired for crashing, etc. My experience with Schneider as a company driver was great. I had a jet set/dedicated account and was guaranteed $1450 a week, whether I moved or not. I also received a raise every six months. Every time I exceeded the guaranteed amount, I got to keep the extra. So, it depends on the individual's experience.

"You laugh about someone who pays regardless of the situation, showing what kind of person you are 💩. Now, may you check your paycheck statement because it seems like you're getting f**k in as*. Why? I don't understand why 38% is taken out of someone's paycheck for taxes, plus deductibles for health insurance. $1450 was the minimum I would take home. During the slow season, I would be at Iowa 80 truck stop, chilling, sleeping, and getting paid. I was getting paid $34.50 per hour for driver time and $15 per hour on duty. So, during the busy season, after driving more than 40+ hours a week, you can do the math on how much I was taking home. Additionally, I was getting paid that amount with only three months of experience, and they trained me and gave me experience on tankers. Comparing it to my first truck job at Melton (flatbed), I was making more at Schneider. So, I can't complain. One more thing they gave me a 10000 sign on bonus that was paid through out the 12 month.

However, there is a limit to the taxes imposed, so a loophole is to raise the cost of living, causing people to pay more taxes. In Texas, we do not pay state taxes, and depending on where you live, it can be super affordable. You get more for your money.

I've been saying it from the moment they were saying "driver shortage, driver shortage" that it's a lie. How is it a driver shortage when you see more trucks on the road than cars? How is it a driver shortage when there's more trucks than freight when you look on the load boards? How is it a driver shortage when the parking lots get FILLED to the BRIM by 6pm? How is it a driver shortage when you see people sleeping on exit and entrance ramps? How is it a driver shortage when the broker literally laughs in your face and tells you "you're delusional" for asking for an extra $200 on the rate (true story, Landstar broker)? How is there a driver shortage when the spot rates are $1.20 a mile? How is it a driver shortage when fuel surcharge is 47¢ per mile and that's INCLUDED in the rate when you get a load from the broker? Meaning the actual rate of the load is 73¢ per mile!
There is no, was no, is going to be no driver shortage. The market is OVERSATURATED with drivers and trucks. EVERYONE and their dog is driving. Why? I'll tell you why. It's SUPER easy to become a driver. And that's what they want. They want a super easy process in order to churn drivers out like butter. This is something I've been saying. Obtaining a CDL should be a rigorous process. It should test every inch of your body. Coming out of school should make you a professional. Schooling costs 5k, 6k, 7k, I've heard as high as 10k. It costs the same to become a pilot. And when people become pilots, you see how they graduate? Like professionals. They know and do everything by the book. They know the book. You paid 7K for a CDL school and they chewed you up and spit you out like a piece of collogen from a steak. You literally left the school with no extra skills other than a couple hours behind the wheel and a little bit of practice backing up. Within your first 2 months you would have forgot most of the pre-trip. And that's fine. The pre-trip does have some things in it that don't really matter, but by your 6th month you would have completely forgot it. Why? Becasue they didn't teach ou to actually teach you. They taught you just to be able to pass the test and bring in the next class of people to chew them up and spit them out too.
Like Damien Marley once said "Cup runneth over till it spill, take until they've had their fill"
To everyone reading this, listen to me right now. If you don't see yourself as a driver for a long time, if you don't like what you do, if you have something else to do, if you're not making enough money, if for any reason you aren't thinking of doing this forever, as kindly as I can say it, please park it up and go home. There's too many of us. If people don't start leaving this is going to last forever. The market is oversaturated and it's not your fault, you heard "driver shortage" and ran to action. Thank you. But we were all lied to. Every one of us. Please, for this industries sake, just go home. Get a degree, start a business, work a floor job, something, anything. But if you don't see yourself doing this, please, do those who have nothing left a favor, and a huge favor, please go home.
This entire industry is becoming so fucking ridiculous. Things need to change and fast. We The People are getting fed the fuck up.

The moment I started at my CDL school I knew it was a money grab. This place brought in a new group of 30 students every 2 weeks. 30 students at 7000 dollars each. It's not at 10k to take the class. All they "taught" us to do was the pre trip and back into a dock. Out of the 170 hours I was in this CDL school, (i was only there because the truck broke down and i had to wait for it to grt fixed so i could test out) I only had around an hour of actual on road driving. This includes the road test with the Arkansas state Police, and that was around 30 minutes. The owners of this CDL school had new Corvettes, and all kinds of cool and expensive toys, yet the truck we used (a wore out cascadia) was a big pile of trash. It didn't even have 4th gear and 9th gear, and may other issues that you would get a ticket or put out of service for.

Every day, I get out of my sleep and pray that most of these mentally careless and unsafe truck drivers don't hit my truck or run me off the road and kill me. What used to be a few years ago is now a majority driving these trucks now. In addition to increased bad drivers operating basic vehicles on the roads.

The driver shortage has always been a myth. The only time ive ever seen empty shelves was during covid. And that was to trigger you to stock up. But never ever was a prpduce house where the crop just rotted. It was only a respected job when the public was short on toilet paper.
Mega fleets are used to the turnover. Some could care less about retention. But a 300 percent turnover is not a driver shortage problem.
Even so. The goal of a driver is eventually to do this on thier terms. But starting through a mega is a very necessary evil. And the Megas are who makes such false shortage claim.

They were a great company and the only reason why I left is because after you've been driving and have a certain amount of experience there are things that they do that you don't want to put up with. But those things we don't want to deal with or excellent for newer drivers. And yes I would and will go back to them if something out here is not looking right. Free country. Make your choice. Eliminating free choice is not the answer. I suppose you have an employee attitude. Get paid for showing up. Rather than doing the job. If you do not like the way trucking companies treat you.
Simple solution. Start your own trucking company, get your federal authority, get a truck & trailer. I did so after 13 months of being a company driver. I did not like the way they were treating me & screwing me on miles.
Free choice, problem solved. Now I do the loads I want. No one tells me how to drive. If I get screwed on a load, never do business with them again. Burn the bridge. There are plenty, that once you show them you can deliver the load safely & on time. They will be calling you & paying better. Not wanting to take a chance on some unknown.
To each their own. Yet, free enterprise is the best for those that are not afraid to work!
If you are the type that tries to do as little as possible. Neglects responsibility. Stay as a company driver.
Company drivers drive the most work to me. The shippers & manufactures. Their fork lift & yard personnel know the difference. Management learns through the paperwork.
I love the competition. They push more business towards me than I can handle. So please maintain the attitude that you are there only to collect a check. By doing the least.
You keep me laughing all the way to the bank!
