- You need the play the long game.
To do that, you need to have a constant overview of the big picture, but play on a micro-level - your 24 hours within a day.

Yo Adam, thank you again for turning my article into such an informing piece, honored man!
P.S. It's so weird listening to something you've written, narrated in a British accent and animated in such a creative way :D
Nice.

Dude, you stole my comment.
I was going to write the same exact thing.
What's going on here
@@alvaropena5540 speedy fingers my friend :)
You MUST have a good foundation of discipline and take control of the basics like health, sleep, exercise and diet because some day tragedy will hit and those ingrained habits will be the only thing that keep you from falling apart. That is my secret but maybe some people have enough will power to overcome without those good habits.
Hope you're doing well.
That's what I have inbred in my brain, but discipline is something that I find it difficult to keep up with.
That's the secret, as the habits book says: You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems
Instant gratification is just like Crack or Crystal Meth, it'll give you that quick intense high, but it is so destructive to your life.
Smoke smoke weed instead, go green!
@@michaelcraig9449 or just don't do anything at all.
@@dkmodder4405 I am saying it is better than crack or anything else. Do what will help you.
May be better but weed has been destructive to many people. Dont influence people to take weed!
“Take weed” more like toke weed haha
It's very clear that there are two sides: The slacker and the Sargent. As long as the Sargent takes charge, you can let your inner slacker have fun. I like the notion of investing on yourself. Pay heed to what your slacker side wants. It's also cruel not to let him have any fun, and yet Sargent should always be in charge.
The way I did it was one habit at a time. I started a reboot, and once that was going for awhile, started doing yoga. Then I added my diet and later cardio. I quit sugar then coffee. Just start one valuable habit, do it for 2 weeks to a month before adding another good habit. The first one should be really easy to maintain before adding another, a month is what it takes. You can do it.
Win the battle today, plan to conquer the next tomorrow.
And commitment and acceptence therapy tells you to stop fighting all together
👏👏👏 well said - It's not about manically using every single minute of your day, but when
you’ve dedicated time to certain things, to do them with 100% focus.
As a person with COPD I have a limited amount of energy every day. Once it's gone I can't do much else. This video is the story of my life - every single day of it. So relevant. COPD makes you realise how precious time is... I _have to_ do all the practical things first before I can relax and do anything from the red list. I have no choice. But I have to rest between each activity - it's hard to find the right balance.
A PhD in instant gratification! Well said! 😆 I’m glad you approached this as finding the “balance”, and not just trying to kill or ignore that PhD side of things. It’s much more helpful to look at both as a symptom of our our needs, and choose which needs we want to meet most in that moment. Sometimes a “lazy day” is exactly what we need to meet our needs and actually help us move toward our goals.
Every entrepreneur or anyone just trying to be better will love this channel thank you for the content and motivation as humans we forget and this are good reminders
So nice to have a framework to understand our tendencies! And...to realize that it is totally normal to experience this battle on an everyday basis! Thank-you!
This channel is so inspiring and illuminating!!! Love the contents... Keep it up!
Thank you Farhana
Yes
Yes it is a daily battle to get up at 5am I set my alarm for that time but often cannot pull myself out of 🛌😊😆! But this inspires me to win the battle in the morning
After watching many of this kind of videos i have concluded that if winning the battle of the day was simple, there wouldn't be so many self improvement videos and techniques in youtube. The reason of this difficulty is that winning the everyday battle requires resources(time, money, knowledge, peacefull environment, health etc.), wisdom(the ability to make good choices) and virtue (to have a healthy and positive personality). It is very rare for someone to have all three of them. Thus why the battle is hard.
Well said! What a good summary!
Parents do not really create that peacefull environment, I am sure that I could be hellass productive and relaxed when I move out on my own. Since parents always will find something to question, especially your mother, as she will be worried about things from her imagination or theoretical scenarios rather than anything with practical probability of happening.
My advice is to cheet. Like I do. I wake up early, but I know that in the first minutes of the mourning my greatest wish is to go back to sleep. So I counter that trick of the mind with thirty or so minutes of watching RUclips while laying in my bed. After that set time my mind is awake enough to control itself and decide to get up based on what I want to do and not what I feel like doing. 😄 works 99% of the time.
And if you watch a video about what you want to think about for the rest of the day it will set your mind on that path and you'll be able to focus on what you want.
Winning the day is much more simple than people realize, the reason for all the self-help materials is that people don't want to do the work or they get bored.
The bigger issue here tends to be figuring out what goes on those lists and then actually sticking to them.

Thank you for this. I have been feeling very despondent about my lack of discipline and forward motion with my goals. I have tried many methods before failing dismally. Tried this method for a week and it works, it really works. Instead of feeling guilty about the red list items, they motivate me for the next day to tick more off the green list. Using this method, I am trying to build good habits by improving a little bit incrementally everyday now, instead of trying to solve all my problems at once which was quite overwhelming.
You’ve no idea how much needed for me this video is. Thank you.
Thank you for another killer video.
I am benefitting tremendously from your sober, insightful and non-nonsense video styles and content.
Great drawings too btw.

Loved it! And also the way the illustrations and the story developed !
I wait for your videos! Thank you!
Thanks for this video. It has to be the most understandable and doable way I’ve seen of prioritizing my day. I’ll actually be able to use this. And thank you for not lecturing me on the evils of video games.
So glad I found this channel - Thank You!!
This is beautiful and concise! Thanks.
I remember trying to apply these methods at a young age, but there were always people who would difuse it by saying ‘you’re either all on in or not at all.’ I wish I had had the fortitude to totally ignore them. On a positive note, applying this gradual method in my 40s has helped me learn Japanese, piano, philosophy, how to stay fit, and most importantly, how to teach my children the same outlook towards life learning and discipline.
Your videos are pure gold and should be taught in schools.
I love the Green and Red lists. Imma start doing this today! Thank you The Art of Improvement! Keep doing content like this! Kudos! 👍👍👍
So how are you keeping up?
Exactly what I needed to see today. Thanks! Keep it up! :))

Great video!
THAT IS GENIUS
I like this, thank you.
I don't have difficulty achieving goals as such. If I have something to aim for and a path to tread, I have the discipline to overcome hardship to travel along the path to achieve the desired outcome.
My problem is, I don't have any goals. I haven't got a clue what I want to do. I am reasonably intelligent but suffer with depression as a result of not knowing what I want to do. I am no longer a young man and life is passing me by. I am fairly good at a number of things but brilliant at none.
Its like being stuck in quicksand but having the means to escape but not knowing which way to go once I escape. So I remain and sink further, knowing that sooner rather than later I will no longer be able to escape.
I am educated to degree level but I do a job which, if I tell people I have a degree, they don't believe me. I don't hate the job (that's part of the problem) but it can be boring. I feel like a tiger stuck in a cage, longing to be hunting in the wild. I worry that by the time I escape the cage Ill think "Shit... I gotta catch food myself and fight off other animals. Maybe that cage wasn't so bad".
I have autism as well but it in itself isn't what's holding me back.
Where can I get help?
I’m seeing your comment long after you posted it, but it touched my heart.
My thoughts for some things that might help you :
Assure yourself that it’s okay not to have big goals. Humble goals are fine and can bring great satisfaction, especially goals like:
- Eat only Whole Foods, and avoid all grains and sugars, including agave, honey, etc. (Grains and sugars are inflammatory and interfere with brain processing, which can aggravate anxiety, depression, pain, etc.)
- Be kind to at least two people a day. It will serve them, and it will help your mood.
- Limit screen time to one or two hours a day, including TV, social media, games, etc. Doing this will support your brain in recovering its abilities to focus, imagine, and daydream about possibilities.
- Volunteer. Make a short term commitment. One of my faves is ringing the Salvation Army bell at Christmas time. Or you could write letters to inmates or set up chairs for AA meetings (or other meetings).
- Every evening before bed, read something positive in book form (no screens before sleep). My library is awesome, and I buy lots of cheap books at goodwill and from eBay.
- Contribute a little (or a lot) to an organization that is meaningful to you. Could be NAMI, something for animals, something for children, etc.
- Clear out your home of items you don’t use, and donate them. Eyeglasses to Lion’s Club, clothing and books to Salvation Army, etc.
I’ve gone on too long here. I’m sending you a virtual hug and wishing you all the best.

nice work. thanks.
Cool very unique idea. I’m going to try it. Satisfies the list lover in me to :)

Best video to give proscastinators a run!

Man I start this idea from now tq
Heck yes!

I’d also use a tracker, but the Two Lists is brilliant. However, one list should be Abraham Lincoln, and the other list should be a drunken golden retriever. Thanks for the video!
Thx great video for my bachelor
I love the art 😊
Tq for reminder
Great video...Just missed reading the term "Delayed Gratification" ...which was the real essence of the video.
Nice video quite interesting and inspiring
Second Like👍 Nice Mental Model and the lists sound helpful
Green list and red list great tip. Thanks for this.

*Question everything. Learn something. Answer nothing. ÷*
I'd like to answer that...
So be sceptical, have an open mind to change, and don't think that you actually KNOW anything??? Does that summarize what you mean?
@@springpoarch7772 Summarizing would be making it shorter not longer.
Spring Poarch being a skeptic with an open mind is a bit paradoxical isn’t it?
I needed to go to work but couldn't stop watching this video. It's so great. I got fired for being late.
When i wake up i tell myself : What i would like to do today?
What i would like NOT to do today?
Something positive about myself.
Perfection is not from this World.
I go to sleep telling myself : what was the best thing i ve lived today? (just a positive blink).

Nice, coffee on the green list
This is such an amazing videos and idea. I did not understand the mindset part though.
Can someone explain it to me?
Nice video! Based on experience, what worked for me is tweaking my investment list every day by adding one healthy habit at a comfortable pace. I consciously reserve the low ROI list at the end of my day making it a "reward". I struggle less knowing that at the end of the day I have something to look forward to.
this is epic
10 to 15 minutes of meditation each morning in the form of deep breathing and counting your breaths while clearing your mind is the catalyst for starting the day making the right choices.
God I love your videos
I think this sort of video is informative and applied to good. There is however a caution most videos of this variety miss. That is the people who have an actual physical problem developing; and instead of addressing it try this psychological approach.
One thing to say about this video : Focus is on the Doing instead of on the Being.
This does make sense
00:32-1:32
Who tf do you think you are to talk to me like that!?
😂
Maybe coffee shouldn't be on the green list.
Coffee belongs to the red list. Just a drug.
Cold shower is better!
Each to one's own.
Actually, no. I'm a med student and lately my teachers showed us the healthy effects of coffe, expecially for curing/preventing liver and intestine diseases. Coffeine is also exceptional to boost motivation and enhance memory, due to its capacity to sensitize neurons' membrane-proteins. Three coffee a day are actually a pretty healthy habit: coffe also contains poliphenols and tannins, that are very good for us. The only thing I don't like about coffee is that it makes teeths less bright
@@emmanuelmorrone716 don't belive your teachers. They are wrong. By design or by mistake. It is an industry selling shit to people and pay for bad science to support their shit. Just stop drinking and feel the effects of withdrawl. It is a drug.
@@user-io8fp9dv4q I believe that this isn't a black and white issue like you are making it seem. Yes caffeine is a drug and most people if they stopped for 2 days would feel some withdrawal (extent of that seems person dependent imo). You can not then turn around and say that the science is wrong just because it is a drug. It has numerous beneficial effects on the body and minimal negative effects if consumed within reason (can link you to a stack of scientific papers if you want). If you are smashing 6 large cappuccinos with 2 sugars then you open your self up to many risk, adrenal fatigue, weight gain from the sugar, etc. If consumed within reason less than 400mg of caffeine a day then you can see many positive effects.
It comes down to a personal choice as a person, my personal goal is to not be addicted to caffeine, use it as a tool and not as a crux as it currently is in my life. For me it would be on the red list, for somebody else it may be apart of their routine and have minimal negative effects on their life.
Your argument here seems to be that you are right and that these people who have spent a minimum of 5 years studying their craft are wrong. The onus is on you to prove you are right and not for them to, the studies are their version of proof. But please if you have more information to bring to light about how coffee has zero or minimal positive effects I would be eager to hear and learn about it.
Fantastic videos
But could you put them in a playlist , it will be easier in listening.
Here is a playlist of all my videos: ruclips.net/p/UUtYzVCmNxrshH4_bPO_-Y-A&playnext=1&index=1
The Sergeant can dress up very fast as your ego (or egos) and can push you fiercely to persuit an idea of success which is not yours!! I found essential to clean the meaning of "discipline and work". Perhaps life is bringing you to somewhere else full of joy and abundance but you keep following this Sergeant, this mind, and not allowing other successes to happen. Detachtment from your goals is also essential for living, otherwise you become slave of your own future, then you don't live your present.
Nice videos anyway! Thanks!
