- We've been testing the second-generation Vauxhall Insignia which has a new name, look and engines.
The Insignia Grand Sport is longer, lower and lighter than the car it replaces and gets a more four-door coupe profile.
There's a choice of seven engines and seven trim levels.
The three petrol engines available consist of two versions of a 1.5-litre and a 2.0-litre with 260PS which gets all-wheel drive and an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
On the diesel front, you can choose from two outputs of a 1.6 CDTI and two versions of a 2.0 CDTi with the more powerful 210PS version getting all-wheel drive and an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
In the most economical form, the Insignia will return 70.6mpg and emit 105g/km of CO2.
Choose between Design, Design Nav, SRI, SRI Nav, SRI VX-Line Nav, Tech Line Nav and Elite Nav trims.
Prices start from £17,185. We're testing the 1.5-litre 165PS in SRI Nav trim with a six-speed manual gearbox, which costs from £20,080. Авто/Мото
A couple of corrections to point out. The review mentions an estate version, called the Grand Tourer, of course it's called the Sport Tourer, whilst we mixed the overall length increase with the increase in wheelbase. Therefore the new Insignia has grown in length by 55mm and the wheelbase by 92mm. Our apologies.
recently discovered your channel and reviews.
TOP NOTCH quality and a very informative review on the new Insignia.
Keep up the good work 👍
Great review. An Insignia that you would buy on looks alone. Fantastic design.
thanks Andrew, very kind and much appreciated. It is good looking. VX-Line looks the best and size and design of alloys is important. Big step forward for the brand, though.
Great, informative review on this car. The best one out there. Thanks
Excellent review, concise and informative. No gimmicks.
And the car itself...looks brilliant. Seems Vauxhall/Opel suffer the same kind of image issues as Skoda used to have. But this car looks so good... I think I'd be interested.
Steve D many thanks for the kind words.
You're right, it's a good looking car (even more so in the estate version). Vauxhall's reputation was damaged with too many fleet cars.
Then when people's tastes went more upmarket, Vauxhall stood still. Let's hope the new Insignia is a winner.
A good very detailed review of what appears to be a very large car, thanks
Thank you Robert. It took 22 minutes to walk around the thing. On size alone, excellent value for money.
Great Video Review. The New Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport will be hugely popular with Company Car Drivers
Jamie Pickles that's very kind thank you. This one may even be more popular.
Hi great review. I have the previous model. I have a few questions about this one if I may.
1) Is there a boot release button inside the car ?
2) Does the electronic hand brake have an auto hold function ? (On a Passat it will apply the it to stop it rolling on very slight hills) also on insignia you have to remember to apply the brake after you turn off the engine or it will roll away.
3) Road noise. I've heard criticism leveled at motorway noise from the tyres.
Many thanks and great review.
Oh one last thing - what was the fuel economy like from that 1.5 petrol engine? Does it really feel like it could go from 0-60 in 8.2 seconds as claimed ? (The old 1.6 petrol with 170 bhp took a second longer.)
Good review.
That's a very nice detailed video , thanks for your making this video . I like this car but it comes with a major flop on the nitpicking side : lack of power trunk .How come didn't they add this useful feature is beyond my recognition .Don't they realize pressing the button to open the trunk is way old fashioned anachronistic take .
A good concise review.
Like the look of this car and the spec of your test model is what I'd choose but perhaps without the leather seats.
If I might be allowed to make a suggestion? When you quote the official fuel consumption info, how about you tell us what you've actually been getting during your time with the car. That way we get more if an idea of real world consumption.
John Sewell many thanks and great to hear from you.
You're absolutely right about the real-world mpg and we do when we can or feel it's right to do so).
There are generally two scenarios when we are filming.
One when we have a test car for a week (easy to give achieved mpg figures) and one when we are on launches.
The launch videos (like the Insignia) are really tough to give real world mpg as what we're doing (zipping around, lots of stop start, some standing around for filming and testing) often isn't representative.
Therefore, when we can provide a sensible real-world mpg figure we will but feel there's little point saying we got 20mpg from a 1.0-litre (for example) due to filming.
Hope this makes sense and is a sensible approach.
I ordered one!
Hi there. I bought diesel version of this car. Does anyone know where is engine number. I need it for blue slip in nsw( australia).
looks a great car i have the previous model sri nav 1.6 ecoflex 136 shame the car they lent you was so over specced most people who drive these are dictated what they drive and they get them as the factory made them perhaps the only choice being the colour! was an informative and good review tho ! just would be good to see one without thousands of pounds of extras!
What is the ground clearance of this car?
Buying after watching video
like the design a lot but not the rims
Love the looks but unsure about reliability so probably wouldn't bother
Every car made on this planet has its own reliability issues. The only reliable mode of transport is walking. But since we can't all walk some of the distances that we have to cover, we have no choice but to buy the same unreliable motor cars. The Insignia is nowhere near the top of the unreliable car list. It is a safer bet than the more expensive competitors that are more expensive to both buy and repair. I have an *SRi VX-Line Nav* . It's been running perfectly well for the past 3 months and 9 days that I have owned it. Or maybe it's because I just look after my cars well. Fingers crossed, it stays that way.
Should never buy new car, only test driver because faults only occur mainly 1 year after release and for reliability, Vauxhall/Opel are top 10 most reliable car brands
🤑
Everything is nice except the rear wiper. Take it away!!!!
Older style is definitely better inside and out
