Hi carbuyer I generally like your content but I have a few niggles with the script here.. James will say something positive such as cruising at 70 and at 2000 rpm and then says "however it is a likeable car" as if he was just talking about a negative aspect of the car. Its a small detail but something that really should be picked up before the video is published.
Since when have Vauxhall been German? Opel is the European name for Vauxhall, nothing says it's German. And they use the lower spec trim level because that's the version everyone should be able to afford. If I had the money, I'd buy this any day over a BMW.
This is what I call perfectly designed sport limousine,it some way reminds of a shark which is also good! Second, the quality of Opel was slightly improved over the years,so don't be surprised by good quality too!
Hatchbacks always tend to have rear wiper, because rear glass tend to be contaminated by dust. Meanwhile sallons(sedans) rear glass tend to be clear, but rear lights tend to be covered by dust.
Come on... shut the fuck up! That's not the question, who is the owner now... The question here is who has developed and engineered the car...!? And that always were the germans from Opel. The badge "Vauxhall" was always a bit of ridiculous... Typical british silly arrogance...How many Brits at Opel in Germany have been into the car development... one or two maybe...hmmm??
Fantastic car, can't wait until we get it in Canada (Buick badged) I love the MATRIX LED headlamps, and I hope we get those over here. I like the wagon version best!
I used to leave very nasty comments. Than I realised this hate is just translation of my frustration and me being very negative on everything. As the time passed I calmed my ego down and now I fell sorry for all the hate and negativity I left. Even though I didn't writte that much, still sorry bro for being a dick. I did liked your video and shared. Keep up the work and thanks for the superb free contend.
Timmy Picton it all depends on when the car company will give a press car out, some wont until its a few months old to gauge the public opinion on the car first
Without knowing the details of the deal between PSA and GM, its very unlikely, that it give PSA the right to use GM technology for any future models. So its PSA technology, which will be used in future Opels, and not the other way around.
The Vauxhall Grand Sport is shaped like the 2018 Holden Commodore drive. Just been through the latest version of a car like this anyone would know. Driving is emotional and full of intelligence and style. It seats how many people onboard and can go to their current Destination.
Currently own a 2012 insignia and its a lot better than I expected. Boot is useless though, so narrow at front of entrance it makes putting anything big in there a nightmare. I previously had a mazda 6 which is still my favourite and an amazing boot but unfortunately they switched to saloon only models so here I am.
I still prefer the older Insignias. And honestly, when people say this car is boring - the car isn't meant to make you entertained! As long as they're good at driving and look good, they're fine!
Nearly all carmakers desperately want to move "upmarket", because that is where, the money is today. But good as this new Insignia might be, it is still a rival for the Passat, Mondeo and Talisman, not the 3-series, C-class or A4. Also this particular colour is pretty dull, so I would go for something else.
theres a small plastic part in both the pedals and the gearbox on vauxhall and so far i have managed to break both versions just from normal driving, there are literally a tiny screw/nail size item and why they dont make em out of metal is beyond me
What you in about, this is modern design and atleast it's different from the past designs, other car brands don't even change the new models, so boring and lame, vauxhall are one of the few car brands that change how all the cars look unlike BMW, mercedes, Audi and Volkswagen
Better than other car brands, vauxhall are actually one of the few car brands that change how the cars look, BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Volkswagen make pretty much the same cars, just change the lights
Soft touch materials are not there for you to touch it, they are there to reduce noise. Try a suzuki vitara, interior plastic hard as rock, huge echo inside.
And another thing. The 165 1.5 is more than good and way better than a 1.6 diesel (faster). DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'VE BEEN given to drive but the 165 automatic is more than fine and I say this after just previously owning a Fiesta ST!
The armchair in the middle is spec, i have a 2018 one and it has the arm chair in the middle due to being 1 spec higers (SRI) and seat quality's much better then design
Reviewers always say Apple CarPlay, but fail to mention Android Auto. Does this mean the manufacturers haven't installed it (usually both are actually installed) or is it just because of the old Apple fanboy mentality that means they forget to mention anything else?
I like the look of the new Insignia. I don't think it right to keep comparing it to the Germans premium brands. It's a fleet car and a very good one at that.
I won't be choosing one for a fleet car as the 2.0 diesel has a ridiculously high co2 emissions rate, about 10g/km higher than a German 3.0 diesel! I expect it will lose to the Ford Mondeo
The 1.6 turbo petrol is much better than the 1.5 by almost 40 bhp more. Its shifts and its still quite fuel efficient. Surprised you missed this model.out..
pipsicle Exactly what I was thinking, it's the kind of car that ends up as family transport, add a couple of lanky teenagers in the back & you'll soon regret it.
Large family Vauxhalls have always had decent sized boots I've thought but no leg room. Only looks like this one has loads of leg room because this guy always has his seat pushed upto the steering wheel like an old lady. The seats have always been the worst too, far too firm for long drives. Will make a decent "used" cheap family sized car in a few years time like the rest of them. Nice review tho 😉👍 ...p.s any base model grand tourer should have a rear arm rest as standard, there's nothing "grand tourish" about this car, lol!
The Hal My Focus has very firm seats, there's absolutely no give to them but they're very well bolstered so they hold you into place and with good lumbar support i drive from London to Paris a couple of times a year in one hit with no aches at all
oh, no! it has 2 cm high boot lid!... it has no rear arm rest!... you have to shift gears, with tiring manual actions... there is this ghastly thing on the rear window that commoners call rear wiper... seeing reviews like this is pretty much like seeing someone saying: I am a surgeon although I faint when I see blood.

New Insignia have unresolved automatic gearbox problems, already 14000 km and still problem not solved
Nice looking car but pretty poor that boot smaller than outgoing insignia, and what a ridiculous oversight not to fit a rear central armrest , basic requirement surely .
This car has GM cheapness written all over it. So glad Opel is not a part of them anymore. This is actually a downgrade over the old Insignia in many ways, attention to detail, little design touches, etc. It's obvious they tried to save money on it.
+derbigpr500 - Downgrade?!?! You must be joking. My Dad has a 2012 Insignia as his workhorse and whilst it's a good car that's also very reliable, it's not exactly synonymous with quality. The interior is definitely weak with very poor quality plastics particularly below eye level. The 2013 facelift only improved things slightly. My Dad's car has 18 inch wheels and the ride isn't particularly good. On 20 inch wheels, the old Insignia's ride is indescribably awful with huge amounts of tyre roar at motorway speeds. I've also been in the new car and it's a million times better with regards to quality. The new car inside has a premium feel, it rides much better and it's a lot quieter. It's a step up not a step down.
I really think the quality of car buyer videos have gone up since this guy has settled into his new job. I didn't like his videos at first but now you do a really great job, much much better than those at CarWow lol
Have one of these and changing it after 3 months. Incredibly boring (but comfortable) to drive until the turbo kicks in and painful durability wise. In 3 months I had to take mine back for a fuel filter change, a fuel heater change and a glow plug change and it still hasn't gotten rid of the engine warning light. Another major issue is that first and second gear feel so sluggish and it gives me a feeling that the transmission is going to blow up if I rev it about 3000 rpm. 2018 models are probably better but for now, I'm going back to BMW.
The Insignia is a very noisy car, the levers that are behind the driving wheel are made of very hard plastic and designed like in the 90-ties, if you drive in the rain for a longer period of time the mirrors won't clean up of water and you can't see much (I constantly switched on the rear window heating that should heat the mirrors as well - at least on normal cars it works like that - but it didn't help much at all) and the biggest fail is the cruise control system which let's you choose only even speed values like 88, 90, 92, 94 kmph etc, it's just an idiotic solution and makes this system pretty useless in many conditions. I had to drive behind a truck multiple times that was doing 89 or 91 kmph and you constantly need to press Set- and Set+ buttons to keep the distance to the truck the same. On some roads there's no chance to overtake someone driving in front of you for like 5 or 10 kilometers and then you just sit there and play with the CC constantly like an idiot.
People dedicated to buying German "A" "B" or "M" brands will not be interested in this car at anytime. For the rest it has to be the "S" for "Superb" choice all day long.
Why do car makers keep trying to make their ordinary family cars go upmarket? You're not fooling anyone that this is anything more than a Vectra Vauxhall, now cut it out!

"Vauxhall hasn't really designed this middle seat to be sat on" doesn't all car manufacturers (except from mpv's and suv's) abandon the middle seat?
It's funny how James is trying to position the Insignia as a competitor to the German cars, considering it's made in Germany.
alexger85 exactly
It's German (Opel) and is Made in Germany. The problem with these reviews is that they drive the lower trim / spec level
It's French now
compared to A4 and 3 series.
Plus Opel was owned by GM, now is in better hands
Since when have Vauxhall been German? Opel is the European name for Vauxhall, nothing says it's German. And they use the lower spec trim level because that's the version everyone should be able to afford. If I had the money, I'd buy this any day over a BMW.
Looks really good, I like it but people will unfairly slate it because it's a Vauxhall.
Jamie Lawrence yh true
Jamie Lawrence bruh
I bought an opel insignia, and drove 170.000 km with the first generation without problems. Just a fine car
£17k?! That's so much car for the money
This is what I call perfectly designed sport limousine,it some way reminds of a shark which is also good!
Second, the quality of Opel was slightly improved over the years,so don't be surprised by good quality too!
I remember when carbuyer viewers used to hate this guy and would dislike every video
What do you mean you haven't seen a rear wiper for years??
Sedans don't tend to have these, only estates. E.g. look at an E-class limo, no rear wiper. It's really annoying in the rain
Ford Mondeo has one. Only these "hatchback" style sedans have them.
Neil Baldacchino what a strange statement as 99 percent of hatches have a rear wiper.
Hatchbacks always tend to have rear wiper, because rear glass tend to be contaminated by dust. Meanwhile sallons(sedans) rear glass tend to be clear, but rear lights tend to be covered by dust.
Neil Baldacchino That thing just looks hugely ugly. Id rather see nothing out of the backwindow than having one of these
"It hasn't got the quality of a German car" Opel is German!
owned by GM ...... but it's going to be sold soon to the French peugeot-citroen group
TheCamshafter any evidence of this or just your opinion??
David C it's my opinion and it looks really nice
TheCamshafter You only have to look at the class leading warranties that VW, BMW give.
3 years. "premium"
Come on... shut the fuck up! That's not the question, who is the owner now... The question here is who has developed and engineered the car...!? And that always were the germans from Opel. Finally you review cars when they r Brandnew, and not half a year old!
Timmy Picton it all depends on when the car company will give a press car out, some wont until its a few months old to gauge the public opinion on the car first
Mate...that rear windscreen wiper is classy! A hint of nostalgia! Oh... the good old Vectra!
this could be the next peugeot 508
Hahaha, true!
Without knowing the details of the deal between PSA and GM, its very unlikely, that it give PSA the right to use GM technology for any future models. So its PSA technology, which will be used in future Opels, and not the other way around.
It's the other way round, actually. The next Insignia will share many parts with the 508 (or whatever they decide to call it in 6-8 years).
Opel developed their own technology again in the last years, because they proved to be superior - gm used them for their cars too.
I think it looks great, a good step up from the current insignia...which I still like.
honest review James. Now review the 2liter turbo.
too be honest it looks loads better then a 3 series or A4.
James, why you sat very near to steering wheel? Is this the correct driving position?
The Vauxhall Grand Sport is shaped like the 2018 Holden Commodore drive. Just been through the latest version of a car like this anyone would know. Driving is emotional and full of intelligence and style. It seats how many people onboard and can go to their current Destination.
it's the first new look.
this is the review I've been waiting for, good to see carbuyer beat carwow to the review
This is the entry model Design trim. Things like the rear centre armrest are standard on SRI trim and above.
Good review great car much underrated, styling and practicality much improved, very good value compared to the competition.
I've never seen James Batchelor without his red pants 😂
thats.. *STUNNING*
Excellent review of a VERY appealing car. Especially like the consumer advice on which engine to go for!
what's he on about my 2013 insignia facelift has a rear wiper
Any idea when will the Crossland X be reviewed?
How do you get the head-up display. I can't find how to?
It shaped like the 2018 Holden Commodore. With a lot of Details.🚗🚓🚕🔴🔵
I still prefer the older Insignias.
And honestly, when people say this car is boring - the car isn't meant to make you entertained! As long as they're good at driving and look good, they're fine!
Nearly all carmakers desperately want to move "upmarket", because that is where, the money is today. This is the future replacement for our Holden Commodore in Australia is it not? I am not a fan so far, but it could be the colour and spec.
fuck the practicality. looks gorgeus
great looking car, unlike all the lookee likee Audi's etc
Driving this car around London now for a year, returns 31.2 mpg. Most of the time I'm in traffic. Vauxhall have told me this is a reasonable mpg.
1.5 petrol?
Does it have lumbar support
theres a small plastic part in both the pedals and the gearbox on vauxhall and so far i have managed to break both versions just from normal driving, there are literally a tiny screw/nail size item and why they dont make em out of metal is beyond me
Are they trying to go back in time with that exterior design?
What you in about, this is modern design and atleast it's different from the past designs, other car brands don't even change the new models, so boring and lame, vauxhall are one of the few car brands that change how all the cars look unlike BMW, mercedes, Audi and Volkswagen
Stole the interior/extorior design from a few cars but I like it so..I don't care too much.
did you see kia stinger..? Mazda 6 from the front, Jaguar from the back and interior stolen from Mercedes.. welcome to copy paste...
It still looks like Vauxhall, hasn`t bothered to try, The ie Vauxhall used to chuck out fairly decent stuff pre mid 90's
The egine is more than fine, and especially than the 1.6 diesel. Much faster, cleaner, quieter and fun+very frugal...
And another thing. The 165 1.5 is more than good and way better than a 1.6 diesel (faster). DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'VE BEEN given to drive but the 165 automatic is more than fine and I say this after just previously owning a Fiesta ST!
The sparkle of the Audi A4?!!! What sparkle?
Can't believe this car will be replacing the VF2 Commodore in Australia.
this is such an improvement over last years model, the front looks like a mazda.
Alan Partridge used to drive one of these.
Considering this
Vauxhall uses the rebadged Opels but their pricing policy is too different.
Of course they didnt design the middle seat to be satin ... that would be way too posh.
why did you decide to test the lowest trim of all? Test the best trim with a 1.6 turbo diesel engine.
600 quid more than an astra seems like a bargain !
actually it probably means the astra is overpriced
I like the look of the new Insignia. I don't think it right to keep comparing it to the Germans premium brands. It's a fleet car and a very good one at that.
I won't be choosing one for a fleet car as the 2.0 diesel has a ridiculously high co2 emissions rate, about 10g/km higher than a German 3.0 diesel!

It's going to be a Holden commodore in Australia
Why do they always do this? Get it "almost" right. That rear headroom means it's an instant no for me. Maybe the estate version will cure it.
pipsicle Exactly what I was thinking, it's the kind of car that ends up as family transport, add a couple of lanky teenagers in the back & you'll soon regret it.

New Insignia have unresolved automatic gearbox problems, already 14000 km and still problem not solved
not only car to have that, Honda is the one having this issue the most but plenty of other modern cars with gearbox problems
Is this the same company as Car Wow? :O
he's got them red pants on again 😃
lol hes already weared worse
A car is rejected once it doesn’t have a rear arm rest! WTF!!!
We get these with a 235KW V6 in AWD in Oz... :-)
Really great looking car, not what you'd expect from Vauxhall from my experience.
Where is boot deck lid????
always wondered what Jimmy Carr was doing nowadays.
gorgeous car
I prefer the Vauxhall Vectra C to this.
The audio levels are all over the shop on this vid.
Haven't been here since Matt left and people are still hating? why? haha
please make video about Cadillac escalade or Ford f series
World Car
Neither are relevant to the UK market!
those aren't sold in the uk
The boot, I mean what were they thinking?
No armrest? Other has, probably you chose a cheapest version:(
what's going on with the volume of your videos?! every voice over is at a different level...
It looks like they bought the front from the Mazda 6. I though it was a Mazda review.
Nice looking car but pretty poor that boot smaller than outgoing insignia, and what a ridiculous oversight not to fit a rear central armrest , basic requirement surely .
Oh, get her!
Wouldn't have one give had a test drive in one stick with the mondeo
Would of liked to have seen the sri not the bob basic entry car, now i feel disappointed by this car
This car has GM cheapness written all over it. So glad Opel is not a part of them anymore. This is actually a downgrade over the old Insignia in many ways, attention to detail, little design touches, etc. It's obvious they tried to save money on it.
So much in fact that it's actually cheaper than the old Insignia and I can't believe I'm going to say this, but the old Insignia looks better.
+derbigpr500 - Downgrade?!?! You must be joking. My Dad has a 2012 Insignia as his workhorse and whilst it's a good car that's also very reliable, it's not exactly synonymous with quality. this is the modern Vauxhall vectra
I really think the quality of car buyer videos have gone up since this guy has settled into his new job. I didn't like his videos at first but now you do a really great job, much much better than those at CarWow lol
Michael Carbon You're comparing matt to this lil dude? lol
I think it's the cheesiness and car wow flick test I can't stand.
0:03 is that a mazda 6?
wow... stop facking compare evey car to mazda 6 ...
Nope, matter of fact I probably only seen like 2 mazdas on the road, this is a insignia which sold great in Europe
Mondeo is the biggest looser in this segment, sad Ford made the new Mondeo large outside and SMALL inside, Pity on Ford!!
it looks likes a Skoda superb at the back
The reason Vauxhall doesn't make any profits is because they make sub-par cars.
Ugh gross, this is gunna be our new #HoldenCommodore here in Australia. No more rear-wheel-drive V8 brutes..... or #AussieUte :(
why do people buy these with all the known problems around..
Some people are on their 3rd engine!
People dedicated to buying German "A" "B" or "M" brands will not be interested in this car at anytime. For the rest it has to be the "S" for "Superb" choice all day long.
70 mpg on the diesel? what what what
Waiting for the haters haha
Lol, this car is one of best looking cars in 2018
you say that you dont need anything more than the design model, but then moan about no armrest....buy better than a design then
How is this on par with a skoda superb lol
Why do car makers keep trying to make their ordinary family cars go upmarket? You're not fooling anyone that this is anything more than a Vectra Vauxhall, now cut it out!
Albin Nygren You're stuck in 2005 as I see
Someone tell him all hatchbacks get a rear wiper !
