Feel like you’re being excessively critical on this one mate. A good car doesn’t have to a BMW, Audi or Mercedes only. This car may not be flash but it is damn good value for money.
I get comments on mine all the time. Usually how nice and expensive it looks (and sort of is to me at least). They have no idea what it is and probably guess Audi A5 or A7
You have to be a fool to not realise this car is incredible value for money. Incredible. I've always said it, if you are not badge snob then vauxhall/opel, hyundai and skoda are the choice because they are currently making incredible cars.
My dad got an insignia in 2019 and it's incredibly comfortable for passengers, and he describes the feeling as being super smooth and responsive. I'm currently learning how to drive and I'm so excited for when i finally get to sit behind the wheel
Good value for money for someone who just wants to get from A to B, without being caught up with brand image. We have an Astra Estate Elite for A to B duties and it is great for doing that. It's not a fun drive, but then isn't meant to be.

to fault the noise of the engine with the hood open is ridiculous. You don´t have the hood permanently open when you are driving in the city or when you´re at home. Also the mats in the hood are supposed to reduce the noise of the engine. So maybe you should have closed the hood and then jugde the noise
That's why I will only buy cars with gasoline engines even though the fuel consumption it's not that great but they are better to drive that cars with truck engines
Marius my dad drives a 2015 Audi Q5 3l diesel, when you sit inside you hear nearly nothing coming from the engine, so what exactly do you mean with „gasolines are better to drive“?
Protector of the Republic thats right, but these are characteristics of a gasoline engine. For what does an engine have to rev high? Especially when a diesel engine is able to have the same poweroutput with much less rpm? And of course diesels have a less linear poweroutput, but thats a characteristic of a diesel. And also you can‘t generalize that gasolines have more power or are faster

Seems to be overly critical. The reaching for the climate controls is exactly the same as the previous gen Audi’s, yet it’s not mentioned in the review of those.
The Insignia, (Buick Regal) is classed as a mid-size car in Canada/US. I'd hate to hear the whining of some of these folk if they had to adjust the climate in a Buick LaCrosse, LOL
My families first vehicle was from this brand. Granted, this was Jamaica and listening to people mix it up with a Peugeot was its first conversation starter. This was a long time ago..
I have one of these, they're really decent. Fuel economy in my 1.6 diesel is easy 55+, cheap to maintain and tax and a very pleasant place to be. The only 'downside' is it doesn't have snob appeal as Matt has made quite clear!
@@user-cn1em2qx6f I have the 1.5 turbo with 170hp, and after around 100,000 km I have had no repairs at all. I would definitely recommend the OPC line tough as it look just a bit sportier...
"is it time to start considering the Insignia Grand Sport over its German counterparts?" Well you know Vauxhalls = Opel = german? Stop acting like Vauxhalls are a very british thing lol.
This is a Vauxhall in UK, Opel(original) in mainland Europe, Buick in USA and Holden in Australia. Truly a re-branding legend. I don't think any other car was re-branded as this much. PS: If there are other cars re-branded as this much or more please write in the comments for us auto enthusiasts.
I had chance to drive it few times and I loved it. For this price I wouldn’t expect any better. I love the way it looks outside and inside not mention the space the drivers and passengers have. Also the quality don’t look or feel cheap to me. If I could effort it definitely would be my first choice in this price range.
I own the equivalent .. In Australia.. tuned thoughin Australia by Aussie engineers.. and much lither. The 4 cylinder 2 litre petrol turbo.. I own one it a brilliant car on the road.. you can lope along at 112 kl per hour at avery nice and cruisy between 1250 and 1400 revs per minute. the 191kw and 35nm of torque and low kerb weight.. about 1530 hundred weight the acceleration between 90 and 140 is brilliant.. this car is perfect.. pace and saloon characteristics .. It handles like a gazelle yet you feel it's grip and solidity at every turn. Brakes are superb, trusts builds immediately. The hatch back, Holden call it lift back, is great to gain access as it rises high. The only thing I would like is if it was automated. The Infotainment system is washed out looking, pastel coloured, not as pretty as the lippy rich screen of other cars. But the functionality if Android Auto is perfect ,all undertaken by voice commands, even able to send texts and edit these by voice.
It looks good. Opel (Vauxhall) also seems to be doing quite well regarding reliability with their newer cars. Definitely worth a look into when buying new car.
6:45 “got to tick everything off the list haven’t I?” Yes Mat that’s exactly what this review feels like, a somewhat incongruous slating of a seemingly perfectly practical and class leading car for the money. You’ve raised issues with this car that haven’t been mentioned in VW group cars with the same issue for example. And the cars praises are just brushed over. It’s not supposed to be a 3 series or a c class so reviewing it with those expectations is just ridiculous. Also the complaint about the damped glovebox is ridiculous for the person who rants an raves about damping in Volkswagen how it’s the hallmark of quality.
My partner and were driving down the motorway a few years ago and she said that they no longer make these cars, I took no notice till I saw a new one and made a sarcastic comment, this carried on for a couple of years, and every time a new one passed I would repeat her words, till something made me take a closer look, now I own one, and can honestly say a great all round car. Price, performance, looks, and even reliability are excellent.
So it's basically just good. For anyone who doesn't care about driving and isn't an image snob this seems like a really good choice. Guessing virtually nobody watching this would ever buy one, unless they do a VXR and it's not terrible this time. I do like the styling though, and Vauxhall interior design is definitely better than some of the crap out there (Ford/BMW I'm looking at you).
Not sure I'd say Vauxhall interiors are better than BMW without other factors, but for the price certainly yes. BMW interiors are disappointing and wear really badly- after 50k they look worn and nasty. I actually like BMWs (although the fanboys irritate me) so I'm not trying to bash them, I just find the interior quality really off-putting (which is why after a shortlist of 3 cars I don't drive an M240i or 440i that I was looking at). For the price I'd say BMW interiors wear worse than anything else I've seen and I find the styling flat and uninteresting although that 2nd point is obviously subjective. I'd suggest though that after 100k miles you'll be able to read all the buttons on this Vauxhall, while on a 3 series that's just not happening. Edit: I should make it clear, for £20k I'd consider a used BMW but not any Vauxhall, I'm only comparing interior quality...
Meaningless insulting comments by Fapboi Hardon proving the Dunning-Kruger effect. Surprisingly I've had a number of sensible debates in RUclips comments sections, but on any car video you have to say "yay BMW are the best at everything" because even an i3 is the most fantastic car ever due to nothing except the badge. Don't even care if you're a BMW fanboy, your existence here has, as usual, only detracted from everyone else's.
Agreed that Ford interiors are poor (take the new Fiesta for quality and haphazard design choices) and the BMW 1 Series especially for being REALLY cheap. The sun visors are a real poor point. Anyone defending BMW obviously hasn't sat in the new Insignia or hasn't sat in a modern BMW.
Mat, you really are not an objective reviewer. I think VAG is secretly paying CarWow. I mean, come on, you are overly critical of this perfectly fine car, almost to the point of trashing it for absolute nonsense, like the diesel engine being noisy with the hood up or offering much needed oil and volt gauges. All this while you didn't trash the ridiculous 31 grand Audi A1, which is almost ten grand more expensive than this car, even though it's a shitty little Polo with an expensive badge, definitely not worth 31k.
I just bought mine with 47.000km on it, it literally has all the options possible, but on the smallest diesel engine the 1.6 CdTi with automatic transition(which is great for me cuz I only plan to drive it home/work), and here’s my opinion on the first month since owning it: Driving is so good, so easy and it handles very well even tho it’s a big car, it really surprised me, and It’s a very comfortable car. The technology isn’t anything mind blowing, but considering the price compared to an Audi/BMW, it’s great, a simple infotainment system with good driving assistance, I really like thatt. The interior quality is good considering the price but there are things they could have done better, like the turning signal stick feels too cheap, and the rear mirror shakes alot especially if you’re listening to loud music with big base. And it surprised me that the only way to listen to music was with bluetooth connected to your phone, no SD card slot or anything. I also wish the apple car play could be done wirelessly. The quality of the rear camera is really awful. And what worries me is that the engine is really loud, like I know all these opels are noisy, but I mean this seems a bit too weird at times. For me so far so good, could have been better, but considering the price I’m more than happy.
These are being used as the latest police cars in NZ (it's called the Holden Commodore here). It's smaller than the old Commodore by a whole class, but it's nice to see its still quite practical, I guess.
Value for money is an understatement. An audi a3 (which ive got my eyes on) with 100k miles, 14 reg, you can expect to pay upwards of 9k and thats not even an s line, thats a bog standard A3, no parking sensors, no fol in mirrors, no heated seats. Just standard. An 18 reg Vauxhall Insignia, 30k miles on the clock, that has bells and whisles like parking sensors, lane assist, auto lights, auto wipers. Can range from 10k-13k And the thing is the Insignia is an all around better car than the A3, the A3 is just better styled.
GM brought this beauty to the the US.as a Buick. I’ve seen one parked seen one in person parked. The display is so film noir. All in all it Looks great.
The fact that you can still buy a brand new car like this in a manual that isn't an 'enthusiast' car and aimed more towards luxury automatically makes it cool. Nice styling inside and out as well.
if you actually look at the Sports Tourer review of the same car, he's absolutely raving about it. Somehow for this it seemed like he definitely wasnt a fan
Zak Barakat You know what he means. VAG and BMW. Like it or not I also have to agree he is a bit biased towards them. I thought this should have received a buy verdict as the value for money is great.
I bought this car as Buick Regal Sportback in the U.S. Just an amazing value for the money, since GM offers $10k discounts on them due to poor sales. The car is extremely comfortable, plush luxury ride, smooth steering, very quiet inside. 2.0 gasoline turbo/9-speed auto combo is very fast, but refined and smooth. Bose audio is very decent (it lacks in the tweeter area, but I am being picky here). Rear hatch is huge, it fits 65" TV flat on the floor easily.

weird that he criticizes the glove box for opening slowly because it is well damped but when he reviews a Volkswagen glove box that opens slowly because it is well damped he praises it
The reason why the fuse box is in that place, is because of the fact that in Germany (where these are produced) that's the side of the steering wheel. If you buy an insignia with a steering wheel on the left, you'll have a large glove box. It's all just about the fact that the company doesn't want to spend the money on changing the side of the fusebox.
This is such a lovely car! You get so much for the price, as well as the great sporty aesthetic. I am really impressed with Vauxhall. I think your review downplayed this vehical tremendously. It is amazing, and you really nitpicked the tiniest things about it. You complained about such small things. Why don't you compare this to any other under 20 grand car and see how much better it is.
Had a 1.8 petrol vectra for 4 years which wasn't exciting but was very comfortable, looked ok, cost very little to run and nothing went wrong in 80,000 miles. Changed to a 3 series which cost money every month . If i needed a D segment car again I'd have the insignia.
imho - best value for money on the market. Regarding digital screen - you can change this oil temp and battery voltage to something else for example fuel consumption, distance etc.
The card is incredibly good imo. It has a torque-vectoring AWD system like a Nissan GT-R. And it CAN do little power-on drifts. The system is set-up better than Audi's normally are.
The battery thing is useful, when your waiting for the other half, your listening to music but you have to turn your car on every 10 minutes because your worried about how much juice is left in your battery 😂
I was looking out for a video on the Insignia Gran Sport about 5 hours ago on Carwow and all that I got was the Insignia estate. Good that this is here now. Thanks, mate.
Recently bought a Buick Regal Sportback, (what they call the Vauxhall/Opel Insignia here in North America). Very impressed, good little mid-sized car. Handles well, great on gas, very smooth & quiet.

Most of these comments seem to be claiming it's an Opel or Holden. Vauxhall has been using these cars for years and years. They are the exact same car! Where have you been?
I bought a 2016 insignia techline sports tourer as a step up from my 2016 Corsa SRI due to family getting bigger not that long ago with the 2.0 diesel. Lovely car to drive, firm on the bumps though which isn't always great on the back. Plenty of power under the bonnet being the 167bhp engine. Very well equipped for its trim, I was hoping to get the SRI VX-line but this one was the best deal I could find at the time. £122 per month with £500 deposit when I was paying £173 per month for the Corsa with £500 deposit. My insignia averages around 37-38mpg in the town and 69mpg on the motorway which in my opinion, is VERY good considering its the previous model to this one Matt is reviewing heavier and you definitely feel the weight when you put it round corners 😂

I'm extremely satisfied with it, so satisfied that I decided against switching to a mercedes C class because I frankly think that the Insignia is better. Maybe I'm wrong but that's genuinely how I feel.

A good car doesn’t have to a BMW, Audi or Mercedes only.
This car may not be flash but it is damn good value for money.
Plus new BMW, Audi and Mercedes cars are not that reliable and well built as they used to be.
I get comments on mine all the time. Usually how nice and expensive it looks (and sort of is to me at least). They have no idea what it is and probably guess Audi A5 or A7
For my favourite car reviewer, this review sounds like you had made your mind up before you saw the car.
Nice to see another but around
You have to be a fool to not realise this car is incredible value for money. Incredible. I've always said it, if you are not badge snob then vauxhall/opel, hyundai and skoda are the choice because they are currently making incredible cars.
My dad got an insignia in 2019 and it's incredibly comfortable for passengers, and he describes the feeling as being super smooth and responsive. I'm currently learning how to drive and I'm so excited for when i finally get to sit behind the wheel

to fault the noise of the engine with the hood open is ridiculous.

@@Thorbinskiiii rev higher, have more linear power through the rev range, have more power and are faster in general
Protector of the Republic thats right, but these are characteristics of a gasoline engine. For what does an engine have to rev high? Seems to be overly critical. The reaching for the climate controls is exactly the same as the previous gen Audi’s, yet it’s not mentioned in the review of those.

Such a great looking car. Kind of resembles the Omega which was a really elegant design
every reviewer today:
if car its not from VAG it has -100points from the start
To be fair of you watch his VW reviews he's even more critical than he is with this
So it's basically just good. For anyone who doesn't care about driving and isn't an image snob this seems like a really good choice. Guessing virtually nobody watching this would ever buy one, unless they do a VXR and it's not terrible this time. I do like the styling though, and Vauxhall interior design is definitely better than some of the crap out there (Ford/BMW I'm looking at you).
you find Vauxhall make better interiors than BMW?
Lol Vauxhall interior better than BMW😂😂. I'm not a fan of BMW but this is ridiculous.
Perfect New Year’s Day hangover cure
Mat, you really are not an objective reviewer. I think VAG is secretly paying CarWow. I mean, come on, you are overly critical of this perfectly fine car, almost to the point of trashing it for absolute nonsense, like the diesel engine being noisy with the hood up or offering much needed oil and volt gauges. All this while you didn't trash the ridiculous 31 grand Audi A1, which is almost ten grand more expensive than this car, even though it's a shitty little Polo with an expensive badge, definitely not worth 31k.
I just bought mine with 47.000km on it, it literally has all the options possible, but on the smallest diesel engine the 1.6 CdTi with automatic transition(which is great for me cuz I only plan to drive it home/work), and here’s my opinion on the first month since owning it:
Driving is so good, so easy and it handles very well even tho it’s a big car, it really surprised me, and It’s a very comfortable car.
These are used as police cars in Birmingham also.
EuGeniius they look quite nice in the uk police markings
Value for money is an understatement.
An audi a3 (which ive got my eyes on) with 100k miles, 14 reg, you can expect to pay upwards of 9k and thats not even an s line, thats a bog standard A3, no parking sensors, no fol in mirrors, no heated seats. Just standard.
An 18 reg Vauxhall Insignia, 30k miles on the clock, that has bells and whisles like parking sensors, lane assist, auto lights, auto wipers. Can range from 10k-13k
And the thing is the Insignia is an all around better car than the A3, the A3 is just better styled.
You seem to be getting a bit snotty these days..this is a great car for 20 grand...im sure you can go back to worshipping your German cars soon..

al k - lacks room in the back for such a fairly large car. The estate makes so much more sense.
