    Hey there ladies! Did you know that you can tap on the top right corner of the video to slow it down? Just tap the 3 dots, then tap playback speed. You will then choose your preferred speed. I usually choose 0.75 and that's perfect for me when I'm crocheting along. I hope this helps! Have a blessed day and happy crocheting!

I would love to work on a crocheted cardigan or sweater with you (I'm trying to build enough confidence but still timid about being successful). When you lay out the shawl showing the rows completed, especially as you get to row 7, you need to move the camera back because you can't see the top of the shawl. However, you are a very good teacher, explaining how rows and pattern repeats build on each other. I have paid for lessons on sites like Craftsy but I find your instructions better done & for FREE.

      Hi. I just wanted to know if you could help me
      after row 9, do I repeat rows 7-9 12 more times and THEN do row 10-12 and finish off?
      Or do I do row 10-12 after row 9 and only AFTER row 12 I repeat 7-9 12 times and then finish off?

    • @voyager9028
      @voyager9028 3 года назад +1

      @@izkotractorgirl2041 After the first 9 rows, you repeat rows 7, 8, and 9 12 more times. When you have done that, you will have 45 rows. Then you do the final row. (Don't even think about rows 10 - 12. They are just the first repeat of rows 7 - 9. You'll continue with rows 13 - 15, 16 - 18, etc., until you have the 45 rows.)

    Hi Marly Bird, it took me 2 tries and i have followed you and get it right. but since you did the finish row, i went back to the center spine and did a shell and then finished that row. you say to repeat it until it is as big as you want it to be, but my QUESTION is: as it grows do you need to add more than 5 stitches between shells and pinnapples. i am not sure how that works. please HELP. I love it so far.

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  5 лет назад

      As you keep increasing, the number of repeats increases. So as you follow along with the pattern, and you “repeat from *” the number of times you have to repeat will increases as well.
      Does that help?

    • @voyager9028
      @voyager9028 3 года назад

      You only have 3 chains between the shells and the pineapples throughout the entire pattern until you do the final row. That's the only one with 5 chains .

  • @rhondamatzker4730

    Okay I am totally lost-when I got done with row nine- I have a dbl ch 3 dbl at the beginning and end of that row (which is what you have us do in the video)-if we are supposed to repeat rows 7-9 this doesn't work because when you start row 7 there is a shell on each end. This is not the case the way you had us begin and end row 9. Are you sure there wasn't supposed to be a shell at the beginning and end of this row? Sorry to question the pro here but you can work to the middle of the shell when there is no shell at the ends.
    Trying to make this as a prayer shawl but I am completely lost at this point because row 9 doesn't look correct on the ends.

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  7 лет назад

      Look at the chart. After row 9, the next 3 rows (10-12) are highlighted. Work those rows. They are just like 7-9 but might be easier to follow since they show the stitches starting in the same side as your last row 9. Then, after row 12 do row 7-12 for the repeat. .

    • @rhondamatzker4730
      @rhondamatzker4730 7 лет назад

      I looked at the written pattern and think I figured it out.I tried clicking the link in part on and it didn't work-but it worked on the second video. I can't read charts but thank you for responding so promptly.

    • @amydavis4945
      @amydavis4945 3 года назад

      I completely understand your confusion, and I'm wondering the same thing. The reason it's confusing is because on Row 5, we started that row with the chain 6 to increase (and ending in the ch 3, DC to increase the other side). Then on Row 6 we worked a shell into the DC-chain 3 space, then chain 3, then shell into the shell space.... ending the same way with a shell in the chain 6 of row 5. But now, even though the Row 8 increase was worked the same way as the Row 5 increase (ch 6, then shell into the shell space)... at Row 9 you want us to chain 6 AGAIN??? So we are supposed to start Row 8 AND Row 9 with chain 6?

      Marly Bird I was looking at the 3 patterns for this on redheart.com, and I'm a bit confused. The blue one calls for 3 skeins and is about 10 inches smaller than the purple and grey one which calls for 4 skeins. However I read the patterns and the gauge and hook size and the amount of rows seem identical. So why Is the blue one coming out smaller than the other 2?

  • @amydavis4945
    @amydavis4945 3 года назад

    After spending over 5 hours working on this, I ended up frogging it after repeating 7-9 a couple times. I followed the pattern and repeat exactly, but mine came out looking more like "oranges" than pineapples. I wish I could have seen the FINISHED shawl at the beginning of the tutorial so I could see what I was getting into. The thumbnail alone was not enough. Not to mention mine came out more in a boomerang shape than yours. I don't know how you managed to get that straight top edge. I guess I will move along and try to find a more "traditional" looking pineapple shawl.

  • @chellea9705

    I'm not an inexperienced crocheter, I'm using worsted weight yarn to work out the pattern because the size f hook/weight 1 yarn was not going well. I've gone through both the written pattern (finding a few inconsistencies between it and your verbal instructions) and your videos multiple times---and I'm still ready to rip my hair out. *sigh* Putting the pineapples aside...

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  7 лет назад

      +Chelle let me start by saying great decision to use the larger yarn first. It helps.
      I think if you follow the chart and what I say in the video you will find that the most consistent...and I say it that way because I was teaching via the chart and found out later that there were mess ups in the written. As of today, the chart and written instructions should be the same (as we updated it on the RH website).
      If you can work through how you're building the pineapple over and over it will be clear. I promise. It just takes time.
      I know you can do it!

      Thank you, Marly!
      I don't generally make shawls--knit or crochet--but this pattern is just so incredibly lovely that I'm stepping out of my self-imposed restriction. ;)
      I *will* do this! Thank you for the encouragement. On to the chart! :)

      The chart made all the difference!!! I have never been a chart follower, but I am a convert. Not only did I finish the shawl, but I entered it in our county fair and found out today that I won a grand champion ribbon in that category. Fun! Thank you, again!

    Marly, your camera angle makes it very hard to follow where you are placing your hook for each stitch you make. Could you please change the angle of the camera and/or move closer to your work to make it easier for us to follow you? Thank you.

    I've done so many shawls, but this one is so difficult to follow up.
